I'm thinking of reapplying. I'm not sure what I should do right now. Your advice and input is needed. Please thanks Depending on how your husband started his second degree, I have no doubts he's the cause of your denial. He went for masters, did he come back to Nigeria before applying for his second degree or just continued from there? Seems to me the VO want to use you as a guarantee that your husband will return from the US. However, you can try again. Goodluck to you. |

Shadbay: Visa approved at the Abj embassy. (7:30 am appointment) EA approved on 2nd August after waiting almost a month. COA: $29,000 Funding: nil SOA: $70,000 Sponsor: Uncle (Different surnames)
I was attended to by a white male VO. There were two windows active with VOs this morning. One male and one female.
The guy had denied about 7 applicants right before it got to my turn.
VO: Good morning. Pass me your I-20 and your passport please. Me: (I obliged) VO: (types for what seemed like 30 secs) First time? Have you traveled to the US before? Me: No. VO: Okay, first time. And who'll be paying for your studies? Me: My uncle. VO: What does your uncle do? Me: He's a real estate developer and property management consultant. VO: Oh, wow. Do you have his bank statements? Me: Yes (I passed them to him and he perused through it carefully) VO: What do you do? Me: I'm a Hydrogeologist. (I didn't bother telling him where and for how long I have been working. He was fixed on his screen, typing) VO:What did you study for your undergraduate degree? Me: Geology. VO: Do you have any family in the US? Me: No. VO: So what are your plans after your studies? Me: I will come back and work as a consultant to my state's water corporation. I wish to help tackle water sustainability issues and other critical problems affecting quality of groundwater here in Nigeria. VO: (types for what seemed like an eternity) Okay, I'll be approving your visa. Pick up your passport from your designated collection centre. It might take a week because of COVID-19 rules.
I was fighting to contain my excitement. That VO was on a denial streak and God came through for me. Thank you, Jesus. I had to bone up so the hustlers no go tax me. Lol. I'd like to point out that confidence is key. This is my second application. I was denied 2 years ago. I came back better, well prepared and more confident. If you were denied, just re-strategize and come back with a stronger application.
Selah

Chyjoey: DISCLAIMER: This post is meant for genuine students.
There is no doubt that Grace plays a big role I'm getting an approval.
However, let's not attribute everything to grace and fail to see the emerging pattern here.
The VOs do NOT want to deny you a Visa. Infact, they want to approve you but the law and their training dictates that they assume you are an immigrant till you prove you aren't. So when you're denied, they are not saying 'Bleep off, we don't want you in our country' it's more like 'I believe you're trying to illegally immigrate, try the legal immigration route instead or convince me that you're a non-immigrant'.
This hurts me so much because I've seen genuine students denied because of the sins of visa abusers.
Now to the concept of ties, You must have ties to Nigeria to be considered a non-immigrant.
You see some of these people with Jobs they have worked at for more than 3 years with a work leave getting approved? Yes, it's grace but it's also Work ties. For instance, today I saw a woman get approved who has been at a workplace for 15 years, and trust me her interview wasn't spectacular. Infact, she wasn't even vibing with the VO, but she had strong work ties and the program she was going for was plausibly going to improve her career. Hence, she was approved.
So if you're Jobless, are you screwed? Not necessarily. Family ties - Are you married? Do you have older family members depending on you for care?(please be careful about telling fantastical stories that the VO would call bullshit on immediately) What of dependent children? Demonstrating that you have family in Nigeria you can't possibly abandon helps your case.
Social ties - Do you lead an an organization here in Nigeria that would suffer in your prolonged absence? Are you a prominent member of your community that a lot of people depend on? What of your church or political party? Is there anything there that would compel you to return?
Try as you may, some people may not have plausible ties. Then your plans for the future come into play. What steps have you taken to secure your future in Nigeria (at the completion of your program) ? You may have no ties now to Nigeria but you can be able to convince the VO that you plan to return by applying for a position here in Nigeria that would be provisionally accepted pending your program completion. (This is just an example).
If you have no ties or plausible compelling future plans, then your profile becomes really important.
Young, straight outta high school applying to a bachelors? Likely genuine student, more likely to be approved than someone in their late 20s, 10 years out of high school, being doing a 'computer diploma program' in the interim applying for the same bachelors.
Mid 20s, recently graduated (best months after graduation), going for a masters in a course related to their bachelors, likely to be approved regardless of ties compared to someone in their 30s, years post bachelors, masters in sth totally unrelated and no career benefit.
My point is Grace plays a huge role but we need to learn to analyze people's profiles when they are approved.
Check in this order 1. Ties 2. Plans 3. Profile Hmmm. Wisdom |

Kassidy4luv: My friend's VISA was denied today @ Abuja embassy.
He said the VO asked him 3 questions about funding his studies. His COA is 32k He has partial funding/scholarship of about 8k Personal funds about 11k Sponsor( uncle) will take care of the 13k deficit.
What could be the reason for his denial Drop his entire transcript. It may not be about his funds alone. |

Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Should I Recommend Ex Girlfriend For This Job? by Firefox01: 5:12pm On May 20, 2021 |
Forthispost: Hello Nairalanders. I need your honest feedback on this issue.
There is this ex of mine I dated for approximately 4 years. During the course of our relationship, I Was totally in my best power not to be the toxic one and never cheated on her but she eventually left with no viable reason. There were times she messed up and I forgave her even while we dated. Close to the time of her graduation from a reputable state university in Nigeria, she started messing up and eventually broke up the relationship. I was pained though but I had to forgive her and move on.
After the break up (which is about 3 years away now) we still talk (greetings on phone) once in a blue moon.
Now the issue at hand is, a male boss of mine requested that I recommend a female staff that matches a particular vacant role in our organisation . Note: This is an internal recruitment and who ever I recommend stand a 95% chance of getting employed ( the other 5% if for village people). The role is an entry role with pay centered around 80k-100k monthly. She currently earns 22k where she works now at at our last conversation. Though she use to be a cool person before her village people entered the relationship. Over three years of not being close as before gives me no clue of the type of person she might have become now. Maybe a scorned woman or a more sensible person. I'm doing far better than when she left me and it's super glaring to her.
The reason why I need advice is this: I work at the same organisation in question and I have no plan to leave soon. I'm trying to avoid a case where she will be the one to facilitate any issue for me at the said work place. Just avoiding anything that will result in regrets.
Update: I forgot to add, she's one of the person I know who suits the role. I don't have sister who matches the role.
I created this new account for just this thread hence the moniker "for this post"
Kindly advice biko. Bashing is allowed. The fact that you work there should be enough motivation not to recommend her. At the end of the day, she'll start fucking your boss and eventually get you sacked. |
