It was a massive mistake from Russia and I believe Russia don't want a full scale war with NATO. Both Russia and NATO will r solve this without it escalating into war. Russia just suffered a humiliating defeat I Kherson, Ukraine and Moscow don't want war. Since the humiliating defeat was the handiwork of NATO and the US of which Moscow know so they won't like to go into war again. Remember that wars are not won but only conflicts that resolved to end war.
