It's now becoming very fashionable to bash and denigrate poor people. Especially on social media. Nairaland inclusive.

On a thread on Nairaland FrontPage is a topic that bashes poor people for their decision to marry. The OP used an example of a poor mechanic he helped with 10k to prove why it certainly the fault of the mechanic to remain poor. After all, 'he chose to marry while still being poor'.

Then some other commentors hailed the points he made as being very valid: 'of course it's his fault that he has remained poor! Idiot!!'

The OP has failed to consider the bigger picture here. So what grey areas has the OP and the other supporting commentors failed to understand?

1) Nigeria is generally a low income country in relation to many affluent countries of the world. This bigger issue would surely translate into more poverty per capital. No matter how you check it, until Nigeria system is cleaned up, the poverty is going to affect real people, married or not.

2) The OP and the others said that being poor and getting married means that the man is actually a nonentity and ignoramus. Well, if this is true, we can also extrapolate this fact to mean every married Nigerian. Why? In relation to other countries, Nigeria is a very very low income country. So if you are in this poor nation and married, no matter your personal wealth, you are a very foolish individual - nationally.

3) Many wealthy European countries, and Asian countries were once poor. In the last 100 down to 50 years, some of these countries were poor or were being plunged into poverty. And during this time their men were marrying and not giving up marriage because of economic challenges.

What got them out of general poverty is system change not 'freedom' from marriage.

4) The OP forgot a vital truth, a poor man is more likely to be more physically and emotionally drained than a well-to-do individual. And emotional and physical attention is what a marriage has promised him? Will he not take it? (If he even has the opportunity!) Will he exist poor, and helpless too?

5) OP forgot that a poor demographic has lower asses to proper education and sources of knowledge, which includes traveling. And these deprivations contribute to keeping him poor.

6) Is it true to charge that the Bible's injunction that a "man who finds a wife obtains a blessing from Jehovah" is a deceit?

Actually it's both a mistake of what the Bible says and an insult to women.

That place did not say that a marriage is a magical door to material blessings. It actually says that a wife IS a blessing, not that she is the DOOR to a blessing.

How IS a wife a blessing? Consider just three:

i) Dignify both a wealthy and a poor man, bringing him more respect and acknowledgement in the society.

ii) Provides support, physically, emotionally, mentally, and so forth.

iii) It's easier for a modern woman to raise kids alone than it is for a modern man. So a wife provides the needed child raising support for the man. Wealthy or not
And so forth


These types of woke bashing of poor people is actually understandable. In a nation of large number of illiterates, the ones that are in the know would often in a way or the other try to show their 'superior' knowledge, often at the expense of their poorer neighbours. It's their emotional crutch, and a form of prejudice. Wealth and knowledge prejudice.

Fight the system that causes these problems, not the victims!

The real fight should be against the corrupted system, and quit being distracted by half-truths!!!

There's another angle though.

But before I mention the other angle, let me tell you why your opinion is good.

God has created man with the capability to know how to get a suitable woman for himself. So there's no need for him to micromanage you in that aspect. It's like a ceiling fan manufacturer that has made a fan with the ability to turn it's own blades, so once the fan is on, it won't expect anyone to come and turn its blades for it.

Then the other angle. While it's true that man has to "find a wife", God has provided him help in doing so. The first help God provided him is that He created women for men in the first place (very important point we usually take for granted). The second is that through his Word the Bible, God is teaching the man how to choose the woman who will be best for him, and how to live a life that will make him get the best out of the woman

I want to comment on whether the infiniteness and spaciousness of heavens should scare me silly.

Actually it gives me hope and joy. It's a testament to the truthfulness of the words recorded in Ecclesiastes 3:11 _{He [Jehovah God] has made everything beautiful in its time. He has even put eternity in their heart; yet mankind will never find out the work that the true God has made from start to finish.}

God has put eternity in our hearts and the universe so that we can actually live forever, learn forever, and not become bored.

LITTLE BACKGROUND INTO MY CHILDHOOD
I grew up intellectually very fast, more than my peers or anyone else I knew of my age.

In primary 1, I was the best, though I attended a public school, but, those in my class were quite older, I was 2years old and my classmates were mostly 5years old children.
My schooling was very fast, I graduated University at 19years old,
In my Primary school, I was a normal kid, played but I was quite thoughtful more than my peers and I understood my environment, that is one of the reasons why I could still remember everything at this age (I'm in my early 20s).

In my secondary school things started changing for me, I was finding it difficult to relate with friends, I was turning quiet. When I got to JSS2, my school was changed, and it was at this point I turned fully into an extremely quiet girl till I graduated.

Why I think I'm a rare gem is that I find myself to be extremely good in anything I lay my hands on, so far I have the interest on a task, I come out there extremely great. For instance, when I was learning sewing, I learnt very fast that I was teaching those I met there, and I find myself extremely perfect with metric sewing. I'm not currently practising that now because I wanted to buy 3 sewing machines of $655 each, and at this moment, i do not have such money. And I do feel very sad when I sew and I can't take all my imaginations into reality.

Along the line I started so many fun journeys, one is learning more about beautification, skin care, hair care, I learnt how to make hair products et cetera.
I understood very well, even though I learnt through DIY methods, and not like I went to learn professionally, but I did myself lots of favours by reading so many chemistry textbooks, and so many books I could lay my hands on, but also, I do not have money to establish (I would need a standard lab, Nafdac registration, etc), I can't be mixing rubbish and be selling to innocent Nigerians like some people are doing, endangering the health of beautiful Nigerians.
Although I still teach women all forms of ways to beautify themselves, what to buy and what not to purchase, I have a FB group and pages I do that, I have also successfully grown a waist length hair, yes its true, but I still had to neglect those skills as regards making income out of them.
In addition, I'm a good oratory, I started that in JSS1 when my English teacher would teach us Oral English and along the line, I picked interest, and I can say, I speak quite above average, eloquent, starndard British English, and my Yoruba is quite good as well, I often speak in parables, proverbs. I do voice overs.

After sometimes, I thoughy of what else to do that would be proffessional, that i would enjoy doing greatly and earning good income out of (as you can see I didn't establish in all the skills listed above due to no resources since my taste is quite high and professional), I looked else where.
I proceeded to learn digital marketing (Social Media), digital branding, and creation of animations and I can bet that I'm a top notch as well. Even though my background is quite different (in health line, where I'm currently heading my local government on the fight against Covid19, I have an initiative I lead that raises awareness on several community topics for the betterment of our society) I'm doing quite well in the TECH market.
I get so happy when client gives me good reviews without asking and when people come up to meet me and tell me how well I'm doing in content writing, and Branding without having spoken or worked for them before

Growing up, I had this problem of people viewing me as weird, after thinking about all these tonight, I started feeling ''What if Im a rare type of Genius'' ''What if im a rare gem'', I never thought of myself to be exceptional until this moment when I was evaluating my life and my skills
So please, I need you to evaluate me of what I truly am, am I a genius or an averagely brilliant lady or I'm just over thinking and over valuing these skills?
