triplechoice: I didn't say everyone back then was gullible. If you read my response to DeepSight, I dwelt on the "most" the public, who weren't as knowledgeable as the few, (religious leaders and philosophers) who had access to higher knowledge with which they used to guide or control everyone else.
And that has not changed. The public, the average human being doesn't know much about what he or she is and the world he or she is currently occupying.
Only a few persons really know, but unwilling to reveal all they know. Sometimes, those who really know, even deliberately suppress the truth for their own benefit. It's happening in religion and even in the sciences.
As for the word consciousness, I have used it they way that's appropriate for the ongoing discussion.
The word, consciousness is not easily defined as it means different things to different people
In the context of the ongoing discussion, consciousness as I have used it refers to prevailing thoughts which controls the behaviour of a group of people at any given time.
In the past, what were the prevailing thoughts amongst most people?
If you could figure that out through research, then, it would be easy to know the level of consciousness from which people of those days were operating from as compared to ours. Let us grant your collective consciousness theory and assume it is correct. My question is, if it is correct, I'm interested to know what you think are the prevailing thoughts that are controlling all behaviors in our current era. And what are those blind spots that our future generations might identify in our thinking despite the access to information we have today, which is unprecedented in human history? If this pattern of consciousness evolution is universal, what are those things we are currently unable to see about ourselves today that will probably be obvious to humans a thousand years from now? |

triplechoice: The collective consciousness of a group of people is always reflected in the things they do and say.
And what a group of people do and say is based on the knowledge that they possess.
Most people of the past, compared to "people of today" didn't have much knowledge of themselves and the world, and it reflected in their behaviour.
In a thousand years from now, those coming after us would also make the same comparison I made and refer to us as savages. You're not entirely wrong. I just have an issue with your choice of words. I don't think "consciousness" is a very good term to describe our collective access to knowledge as humans. You might want to write it off as a matter of semantics but words have meanings, and using that word "consciousness" the way you're doing makes it sound loaded and not really clear. You're right that our knowledge is expanding. Over time we learn new things that make previous knowledge look inferior or painfully primitive. But that doesn't mean people back then were more gullible than us. It just means they were operating within an outdated ecosystem of knowledge, if that makes sense. I mean, we literally had ancient philosophers and skeptics who questioned popularly held beliefs. So that fact alone debunks any suggestion that people back then were more gullible. |

Kobojunkie: A game specifically for men, since I don't see women engaging at all -- to force women(and maybe girls too) into nonconsensual rape? And you think this is a broad debate about the ethics of rape vs murder? I'll start with the specific concerns you highlighted: 1. Yes, the game is clearly marketed towards disturbed young men. 2. Yes it IS a broad debate about the ethics of rape vs murder dating back to Kant, Mill and so on and so forth. If you're not comfortable with such topics, then it's fine. But that's the nature of most philosophical inquiries. You're talking as if I'm defending the game. I only brought it up as an illustration. The game sounds absolutely reprehensible to me, and I have no interest in defending it. I'm only interested in the consistency of the human's moral intuitions. Why do we instinctively consider some violations more heinous than others? |
Family › The Ultimate Moral Dilemma: Murder Vs Rape. Which One Is Worse? by FiveFootNinja(op): 10:14pm On Apr 27, 2025 |
Recently, a game titled "No Mercy" came out on Steam. Long story short, the goal of the game is to force women into non-consensual intercourse.
The game was eventually removed from the platform after 50,000 signatures to a petition demanding it to be removed.
Users from sites like 4chan didn't take kindly to this and called out the hypocrisy of the gaming industry for celebrating games like Grand Theft Auto where innocent civilians can be killed recklessly without any reason. And this made me to ponder on the ethics of rape and what makes it so vile compared to murder. I have my opinions on the subject but I'll like to hear what others think first.
It's an age old debate, but I really just want to pick people's brains here and understand their rationale for moral judgements.
So in your view, which do you think is worse? Rape or murder?
And why? |

However, the requirement to engage muslims and all Nairalanders with decency and respect remains.
We have promoted the Islam section to the top level because it's a very important religion.
We have renamed the Religion board as the Christianity Etc board, recognizing the fact that most non-Muslims are Christians.
Please enjoy! And feel free to share your feedback about these changes. Nah Seun, this is not it. There was no need renaming the Religion section entirely if you ask me. You could have just created different subsections under the same "Religion" banner. Islam already have one. You could have just created another for Christianity, then maybe one for Buddhist practicioners, one for traditionalists (Odinani) etc. No religion is more important than the other. You of all people should know this. Meanwhile, when are we finally getting our very own philosophy section, to discuss the meaning of life and ponder on the existential crisis besetting most Nigerians? 😁 If you do make one, make me mod abeg. 🙏🏽🤧 |

Romance › Re: When You Cum, You Come To Your Senses by FiveFootNinja(m): 9:10pm On Apr 24, 2025 |
floss: So why’s it only broke guys that come back to their senses after they’ve cum ? Do you have any study to support this statement? Have you done any significant research that shows this is a fact, or you're just guessing from your limited observation? floss: Except if what Op meant by that statement is being satisfied… if it’s satisfaction is what he meant by coming back to his senses after a guy has cum then I agree I was wrong .
But if Op statement is coming from a place of regret, then you need to go back to school and work on your understanding. Tell me why a full grown adult will regret fvcking a girl if his action didn’t affect his finance.
What you don’t understand is that money controls 85% of your decisions.
If what OP meant was “once you cum, your body will calm down “ then it’s only pointing in the direction of satisfaction and not regret…
So even you criticising me, you don’t know what OP meant by that… you’re looking at it in the area of biology… I’m bringing it towards reality, because guys that I’ve seen making such statements referred to how their finances were affected due to their high sexual escapades…
So don’t criticise what you don’t know…
Like I said if OP was going in the direction of being sexually satisfied (coming back to your senses) then that’s a different story entirely. My guy, the OP even cited the post-nut clarity phenomenon, which is very popular in biology and psychology circles Read this part again: Dpsychologist: There’s a reason why, after orgasm, especially during casual or risky sex, you suddenly feel a wave of clarity, guilt, or even regret. That feeling isn't just emotional—it's biological.
What just happened?
When you're turned on, your body floods with dopamine—the same pleasure chemical you get from cocaine, gambling, or winning a jackpot. Your brain becomes singularly focused on one goal: release. Rational thinking takes a back seat. You ignore red flags. You override morals. You chase pleasure like it’s your last mission on Earth.
But as soon as you cum, your dopamine levels crash, and a hormone called prolactin spikes. Prolactin is associated with sexual satisfaction—but also kills sexual desire. Suddenly, the fog lifts. And now…
📌That person doesn’t look as attractive as they did 10 minutes ago.
📌You start thinking about consequences—pregnancy, STDs, emotional attachment.
📌You begin to feel shame, disgust, regret or confusion.
You ask yourself: “What was I thinking?”
Congratulations. You’ve come to your senses. Literally.
This isn’t spiritual hype—it’s backed by neuroscience. The post-nut clarity is real. And it can be powerful. My emphasis with the yellow highlights. The bottom line, if you read OP carefully is that post-nut clarity affects all humans regardless of wealth. It is a biological reality, and it is not affected by what is in your pockets. He even described the neuroscience behind post-nut clarity in the excerpt I lifted from the OP. Financial regret is another topic entirely. You're confusing the two. Yes people regret spending money on sex, but even when the sex is for free, you can still get that post-nut clarity. Money is not the only thing that controls poor sexual decisions. What about loneliness? Low self-esteem? Insecurity? Peer pressure? Hell, even substance abuse (i.e being under the influence) can cause you to make poor sexual decisions. Rich people have this same experience too. Their wealth might help them to manage the consequences, but it doesn't change the reality of basic neurochemistry. Abi Dpsychologist, come clear this thing up for floss abeg. |
Romance › Re: When You Cum, You Come To Your Senses by FiveFootNinja(m): 3:56pm On Apr 24, 2025 |
floss: Op is talking about regret… and I narrowed it down to poverty being the major cause of regret… if you are worth $30B and you pay 100k naira for a plate of food, will you have any regrets?
I know you will want to mention Dangote, yes he almost regretted taking the risk of investing in his refinery because it almost took all his money. If dangote is worth $300B do you think he’ll say he almost regretted taking the risk of starting a refinery?
The reason you regret is because your comfort is touched…
Like I said earlier, if you’re comfortable you’ll not have regrets, you made all your decisions from a place of comfort…
You don’t see anyone in comfort having regrets, except when his money has finished, as long as you’re constantly having credit alerts, regrets won’t be found around you
You might not understand this… if Elon Musk goes broke tomorrow, he’ll have a truckload of regrets but for now… he has no regrets whatsoever… he’s living his dream life, his money brought him very close to the White House. (Power)
Once you move out of your comfortable lifestyle, what follows next is REGRETS
When you cum you come to your senses is only talking about regrets because you’re broke…
A broke man regrets his actions because his comfort is being touched… why don’t our politicians come to their senses after they’ve finished cumming inside the pvssy of an oloshoo that came to knack him ?
You don’t expect a man that earns 150k naira monthly that initially agreed to pay an oloshoo 20k for knack not to have regrets or come back to his senses after he has cum ?
Try and be making money, you will see that when a girl makes you cum to your satisfaction, you’ll pay her well without looking at how much you have left.
Mind you some guys pay a lady 2m naira comfortably for making them cum and well serviced ….
A man that has money only regrets for a poor service rendered not because his money is going down Bro you're just rambling to be honest. The op was not talking about money. He's talking about biology and basic human psychology. Don't confuse yourself and other people here. Whether you're rich or poor, your brain still operates on the same fundamentals of neurochemistry. If you like be a billionaire. If you like be a minimum wage worker. It doesn't matter. The core fact here is that when dopamine crashes and prolactin rises after sex, ALL HUMANS will experience the same biological reset. Wealth doesn't automatically exempt a human being from HUMAN PSYCHOLOGY. The richest people on earth still do stupid stuff when they rely on their impulses instead of calming down to think. Having money won't automatically make you calm and reasoned. And just because you can use money to "fix" your mistakes doesn't mean you will not recognize them as mistakes once your hormones balance out. That's the single factor you missed. So your entire argument is BS. There's nothing like poverty breeds regret. That's just a motor park rhetoric that doesn't have any basis in reality. No scientific backing, nothing. So it's honestly ridiculous that you'll try to make this topic about financial anxiety. The clarity that follows sexual release is just your rational mind stabilizing after being temporarily hijacked by the pleasure seeking mechanisms in your body. What is important here is that you have the wisdom to understand yourself and maintain discipline. Some of you guys read topics and interpret them with your own faulty biases. |

floss: When you pay 25k for food at an eatery, do you regret your actions after eating the food ?
If yes then you need to work hard…
In life money is the master of all things…
Poverty brings regret and not being able to assume responsibility for one’s actions. If you have millions of dollars to spare, in fact you’ll be proud of your actions…
About STD and other diseases, the more money you have the more sophisticated your sex life becomes. You can make any lady undergo medical lab tests in your personal space before meeting you especially if you knack raw.
So there’s nothing like regret if you have money…. Poverty breeds regrets.

Some people are advocating for masturbation over sex. 😂
If you must go down the road of masturbation over sex. You should consider that masturbation is overall less satisfactory. It doesn't completely fulfil your sexual needs. I'm saying this as someone who has considerable amounts of experience with both sex and masturbation. 🤧
If you're not careful, you might end up masturbating every day, and more than once in a single day. Sex on the other hand fills you up to the hilt. I feel there's places that sex can take you to, that masturbation simply can't.
Maybe it's the kitten 😁, maybe it's the reality of romping with the real deal, but personally if I've just had sex, I won't be having any urges for the next 3-4 days. Possibly a week depending on how intense the sex was or how many rounds I went. So it's hard for someone like me to get "addicted to sex", if that makes sense. But for masturbation, it's never truly enough.
So if you're like me in that regard, you should practice real self control. Not saying you shouldn't masturbate, but if you can relate to my experiences with the two, you need a whole lot of self-control with masturbation. Try not to do it too often. It can get even more addictive than actual sex, ESPECIALLY if you're doing it to porn.
In fact, never masturbate to porn.
By the way, I'm not disparaging anything the OP said. In fact I'm in complete agreement. |
