PoliticsPomp, Pageantry In The Air For Ata Igalacoronation by fkaz(op):
Today , the ancient town of Idah , headquarters of Idah local government, Kogi State , will be agog as the Igala, their friends and well-wishers gather for the official coronation of the new Ata Igala , His Royal Majesty Idakwo Micheal Ameh Oboni .
To be sure, the town is already ecstatic as the people celebrate the epoch ceremony.
The long reign of the immediate past Ata Igala , the late Aliyu Obaje, had meant that many Igala sons and daughters have a faint memory of the glamour associated with the selection process, installation rites and the presentation of staff of office ceremony to the traditional ruler. No wonder Idah became a Mecca of sorts throughout the period the initiation rites lasted.
The new Ata Igala , HRM Idakwo Micheal Ameh Oboni , has begun in earnest to heal some of the wounds cut during the reign of the immediate past Ata or as a fallout of the selection process to fill the revered stool. In this regard and more, the people are full of expectations from the Ata, moreso when history has it Igala Kingdom blossomed to global prominence duringthe reign of his father, Ameh Oboni.
The people of Igala are, however, confident that given the pedigree and experience of the new Ata, Igalaland is poised to prosper like never before.
To the former sole administration of Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited and vice chairman of the CoronationCommittee , Dr Tom Miachi , the stage is set for the presentation of the staff of office to the new Ata. He revealed that the committee, which is headed by Dr Ahmodu Alih , has sub-committees working hard to make the day a stunning success.
According to him, presidents of traditional councils of chiefs in all the states of the federation, dignitaries from states and the federal government , as well as theIgala in Ebuh, Delta State , Nsukka; Idoma, the Jukuns and their well-wishers would grace the event.
Miachi noted that the people’s enthusiasm for the day was obvious from the large crowd that witnessed the coronation rites, which took off on March 5, 2013. “It also clearly showed that the people are happy to have Idakwo as their monarch. The Ata has passion for the Igala Kingdom and is determined to defend it with all his might.”
Speaking to LEADERSHIP WEEKEND on the expectations of the people, the Achadu Ata, Alhaji (Dr) Yusuf Ame Adaji , lamented the erosion of Igala customs and traditions in the last six decades. He stated that Idakwo Ameh , who is from the Aju Ocholi lineage, was already aware of this development and assured that he was set to burnish the kingdom’s image.
The royal father, who fought a legal battle against the late Ata Aliyu Obaje up to the Court of Appeal , Jos to reclaim his mandate said, “In the last dispensation there was no respect for the rule of law. Chieftaincy titles were doled out to the highest bidders. And this made mockery of the traditional stool.”

Adaji said the Ata had set up a committee to investigate complaints from aggrieved people of the kingdom.
He attributed disunity among Igala sons and daughtersto poor leadership, but expressed confidence that it would soon be a thing of the past.
On the issue of boundary dispute with the people of Aguleri -Otu in Anambra State , the royal father said, “Odeke land is within my jurisdiction. It does not have boundary with Anambra. We only share border with Enugu State. I have told my people not to fight the aggressor no matter the provocation as we await the verdict of the National Boundary Commission.”.....

ed to evade scrutiny up till this point, PREMIUM TIMES sources say the Elbit annunciation of the contract, opaque as it was, terribly rattled top administration officials – from the presidency to the National Security Adviser’s Office, and the National Assembly

“The presidency had wanted this contract to be a top secret,” said one of our sources. “The presidency did not envisage that Elbit was going to make it public. Monitoring computers and Internet use is a contentious issue and the National Security Adviser had tried to keep the contract secret.”
Now that it is has been made public what is the usefulness?

Inferiority complex at work. they are begging him to site a company in SE, how many company has dangote sited in north-west(KANO) where he comes from? I beg this man is just a business man who consider location before siting.

On a lighter mood, Dangote means in Igbo: “Dan, please buy”. It could have also been a corruption of the Igbo expression “Di anyi, gote,” which in English means: “Dear, please buy”. It may not be asking for too much if Dangote is urged to conduct a DNA test and make the result public.

PoliticsCommittee’s Report Are Never Implemented – Sheikh Lemu by fkaz(op): 8:11am On Apr 20, 2013
The President, Supreme Council of Sharia, Sheikh Ahmad Lemu, has explained that the failure of the Federal Government to implement the report of the committee on post-election violence, made him turn down the new appointment on the committee for the planned Boko Haram amnesty.Speaking to Channels Television in Minna, Niger State capital; the respected Islamic scholar regarded his membership of the committeeas a “call for national service” but however noted that he is “disappointed by the non- implementation of the post-election crisis committee recommendations which he chaired.”
Sheikh Ahmad Lemu is one of the 26 member presidential committee on amnesty for Boko Haram , announced by the presidency on Wednesday but he has since pulled out of the committee.
He explained that dialogue remains the only way out of the security crisis in some parts of the north as the use of force cannot solve the problem.
He however mentioned that until there is mutual trust between the sect and the federal government, the sect members cannot surrender for fear of being arrested by the Federal Government.
Sheikh Lemu who is optimistic about the success of the committee criticizes the stands of the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) over the granting of amnesty to the dreaded sect.
Public frustration and disappointment
The post-election-violence report had warned that Nigeria risks revolution if the government does not address mountingfrustration.
“General insecurity of life and property in people’s houses and on the highways and kidnapping are adding fuel to the fire of public frustration and disappointment,” Sheikh Ahmed Lemu said when presenting its report in October 2011.
He further warned that “the true state of affairs could escalate to social revolution if preventive measures are not taken in time.”
The committee on post-election-violence was appointed by President Goodluck Jonathan to investigate the violence that broke out after the 2011 general election which led to the death of more than 800 people.

PoliticsAPC Manifesto: Jonathan, Obasanjo To Face Probe; Immunity For President, Governo by fkaz(op): 2:40pm On Apr 19, 2013
The parties had, in February, announced their plan to merge into one party to be known as All Progressives Congress, APC.
Consequently, the parties went into series of meetings during which it agreed on the constitution, manifesto, logo, motto and slogan.
Some of the documents are to be submitted alongside the application for registration to the Independent National Electoral Commission at the end of the national conventions of the parties, where the merger is to be approved by members.
According to the manifesto, exclusively obtained by PREMIUM TIMES, the association spells out an ambitious action plan to aggressively tackle corruption, which a source said generated hot argument before it was finally adopted last week.
Some members of the association reportedly canvassed the need to include specific details, which will endear it to Nigerians above the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which it believes has not done well in that regard since assuming power at the federal level about 13 years ago.
The APC specifically declared in the 29-page document that if it comes to power in 2015, it would not only renegotiate oil deals, but would also remove the secrecy surrounding the ownership of 40% of the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas, NLNG, and query the utilisation of the over N50 trillion oil revenue it claimed accrued to the Federation Account in the last 13 years PDP has been in power.
During the period, the PDP produced three Presidents, namely Olusegun Obasanjo (1999-2007), Umaru Yar’Adua (2007-2010) and incumbent Goodluck Jonathan (2010 till date).
The 20-member APC Manifesto (Logo, Slogan and Motto) Committee was headed by Audu Ogbeh, a former National Chairman of the PDP.
“We shall negotiate oil deals, unveil the secrecy surrounding the ownership of 49% of the Nigeria Liquefied, NLNG, query the over N50 trillion Oil Revenue which accrued to the Federation Account between 2000 and 2013 and recover billions of US Dollars which Ministries, Departments and Agencies, failed to remit to the Federation Account,” the association declared on Section 1 Page 5 of the adopted manifesto.
The APC also declared that it would not only strengthen and make independent the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, and other anti-graft agencies by repealing the laws which inhibit their independent, it would also review public service rules and financial regulations which currently permit outrageous impropriety in public finances.
It also promised to push for the removal of the immunity clause in the constitution which shields the president, vice president, governors and deputy governors from prosecution while in office.
“APC in Government shall muster the political will to wage strident war against corruption; otherwise our post-oil-economy will be disastrous,” the manifesto stated.
“It is our considered view that none of our cardinal programs will succeed if the current level of corruption and looting going on in the land is allowed to continue.
“We shall plug all leakages which accelerate monumental corruption, recover looted funds, cap and trim unwarranted allowances to public office holders.”
With a view to sanitising the electoral process if it comes to power, the APC also adopted for its manifesto some recommendations of the defunct Electoral Reform Committee, otherwise known as Uwais Panel, set up by late President Umaru Yar’Adua.
Among the recommendations listed on Page 6 under the same section, are that it will “make the appointment of the chairman and top officials of the National and State Electoral Commissions public” and that the “Burden of Proof shall rest on the Electoral Commissioners.” It did not expatiate on the recommendations. On power, APC said in Section 4 Page 8 of the document that it will pursue the expansion of electricity generation and distribution of up to 40,000 megawatts in the four to eight years of its administration.
It added, “The party will also work assiduously at making available power from renewable energy sources such as coal solar, wind and biomass for domestic and industrial use, whenever these prove viable.”
The APC also said in Section 23 Page 25 of the manifesto that, upon its assumption of office, it will begin wide consultations to amend the Constitution with a view to decentralizing the police command and expand local content.
It also promised to establish a well-trained, adequately equipped and goals-driven Serious Crime Squad to combat terrorism, kidnapping, armed robbery, militancy, ethno-religious and communal clashes nationwide.
On politics and governance enunciated in Section 24 Page 26 of the document, APC promised among other things, to initiate action to amend the constitution with a view to devolving powers, duties and responsibilities to states and local governments in order to entrench Federalism and the Federal Spirit; remove immunity from prosecution for elected public officers in criminal cases; ensure full implementation of the Freedom of Information (FoI) Act so that government held data set can be requested and used by the media and public at large and then publish at large, and then on regular basis; and restructure government for a leaner, more efficient and less expensive public service.
“APC believes that our politics is broke. Our nation urgently needs fundamental political reform and improvement in governance to make it more transparent and accountable,” the manifesto stressed.
On the social scene, APC also said it would not only invest in massive human capital that would encourage the youth, it promised to “assist Nollywood to fully develop into world-class industry that can compete effectively with Hollywood and Bollywood in due course.

ACN Holds Last Convention, Adopts APC As New Party

LAGOS – APPROXIMATELY 4671 delegates of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Thursday in Lagos unanimously adopted the All Progressive Congress, APC, as its new politicalparty.
Also, the party ratified the expulsion of some members approval of merger with other political parties and groups, approval of new name All Progressive Congress with acronymAPC and approvals of new Constitution, manifesto, flag, logo and slogan.

There’s urgent need for change – Akande
In his opening address, National Chairman of the ACN, Chief Bisi Akande said “this convention is a special one. The urgent need for change as the country desires to rescue our country compelled us to provide an alternative leadership for Nigeria. We must not entertain any fear or surrender to blackmail. We must be mindful that merger is new in Nigeria.

A storm is brewing – Tinubu
Lending his voice, national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu urged Nigerians to be part of history just as he predicted that a political storm is brewing in the country.

No ulterior motive to merger- Buhari
For ACN and CPC, it was not an alien issue, it was a continuation of what we started in 2011. Time was against us and all I can say is that the rest is history. This time around, we started early to build on the foundation we have laid in 2010. I assure you that all those who are consistent, that are concerned with this system of solidifying democracy should know that the only solution is this merger.

WASHINGTON – US President Barack Obama on Tuesday branded the Boston bombings a “cowardly” act of terror, but said it was still unclear if a foreign or domestic group or individual was behind the attacks.
“This was a heinous and cowardly act,” Obama said at the White House. “Any time bombs are used to target innocent civilians, it is an an act of terror.
Obama said while the impact of the attacks near the finish line of the Boston marathon on Monday, which killed three people and wounded more than 170 others, were clear, the motives and the identify of those responsible was not.
“What we don’t yet know, however, is who carried out this attack or why, whether it was planned and executed by a terrorist organization, foreign or domestic, or was the act of a malevolent individual,” he said.
But the president again vowed to bring whoever was behind the assault to justice, and warned that America would not be cowed by terrorism.
“We also know this — the American people refuse to be terrorized,” he said.
In frank and direct language, Obama vowed to keep Americans up to speed with developments in the investigationand asked them to remain vigilant.
“What I have indicated to you is what we now know. We know it was bombs that were set off. We know that obviously they did some severe damage. We do not know who did them,” he said.
“We don’t have a sense of motive yet. So everything else at this point is speculation.” (AFP)
