PoliticsI Am Under Presidential Pressure To Win 32states For PDP In 2015 Polls, Bamanga by fkaz(op): 8:37pm On Apr 15, 2013
National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur today cried out that he is under pressure from President Goodluck Jonathan to win elections in at least 32 states for the ruling party during the 2015 elections in which the president intends to participate as presidential candidate.
76 year old Tukur who just returned from medical treatment in London after the crises in the party took a toll on his healthdisclosed this today when a former Minister of Sports, Professor Taoheed Adedoja led a delegation of Oyo state PDPleaders on a courtesy visit to his residence where he pleadedwith party chieftains across the country to assist him in achieving the presidential target. To achieve the target, he said he has to start preparations ahead of time including state- by -state tours which he will begin soon.
“We need to work hard now because we have a presidential mandate to move beyond 23 states in our control and win at least 32. We have to show electoral strength this time. In doing it, we we will work hard and work well. We will move with the speed of jet and we will deliver without any foul antics. I use this opportunity to appeal to our members to bury the hatchet and cast away whatever forlorn hope they nurse about the future. I appeal to our members to begin to invest in the future right away and doing so involves hard work, diligence and dedication to the cause of PDP”, Tukur declared.
Adedoja had earlier pleaded with Tukur to concentrate someefforts in the south-west zone where the PDP is virtually extinguished

Politics2015: “we Will Do What We Know How To Do Best,” Anenih Says After Meeting Obasan by fkaz(op): 6:31pm On Apr 15, 2013
http://premiumtimesng.com/
Mr. Anenih and seven others met the former Nigerian president in Abeokuta.
The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Tony Anenih, alongside seven other national leaders of the party on Monday met with the former President Olusegun Obasanjo to discuss the fate of the party as well as other national issues.
Mr. Anenih, who spoke with journalists after the over three hours meeting held at hilltop private residence of Mr. Obasanjo in Abeokuta, said the meeting was centered on issues that affect the corporate existence of Nigeria, insecurity, and issues within the party.
“I am here to see my leader. I am here to pay my respect and indeed I am here with my colleagues, some member of the board of trustees of our party to discuss some issues that affect the corporate existence of this country; some issues about the insecurity of the country and some issues about the party itself,” Mr. Anenih said.
When asked the outcome of the meeting, Mr. Anenih declared that the meeting was successful.
“As you see, we are all smiling, don’t you see me smiling? And my leader too is smiling. So we are quite happy about the outcome. For now, it is not for public consumption,” he said.
The PDP leader would also not comment on the issue of amnesty for Boko Haram; saying he would not react publicly as it is a security matter.
“You want us to discuss the issue of amnesty in public here? That is a security matter,” he stated.
Mr. Anenih also said that the PDP in Ogun State would wax stronger as long as Mr. Obasanjo remained its leader.
‘Let me tell you, almost all of us here are members of PDP in Ogun. So you cannot say that PDP is dead in Ogun State. Leader of PDP is here, former president,” he emphasised.
The Edo born politician also dismissed insinuations that the PDP would wither away before the 2015 elections and would lose.
“When the time comes, PDP is a party to beat. When the time comes, I assure we will do what we know how to do best,” he said.
Mr. Anenih and the PDP Board of Trustees have been holding meetings with leaders of the party across Nigeria in order to resolve lingering issues causing discord among party members.

Politics16 Ex-niger Delta Militants Complete Training In South Africa As Commercial Pilo by fkaz(op): 12:07pm On Apr 15, 2013
By Debo Oshundun
Sixteen ex-Niger Delta militants have received the Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) from the Afrika Union Aviation Academy (AUAA) in Mafikeng, South Africa, the academy’s Director, Capt. Allan Roebuck, has said.
He made the disclosure on Sunday during the institution’s graduation ceremony held at the weekend, adding that the ex-militants completed 37 flying procedures to enable them obtain the CPL certificate.
“It is a long road to success. It is a lot of hardwork, discipline, focus and punctuality for these individuals to be able to obtain their CPL certificates.
“With the certificate they can work anywhere in the world as commercial pilots because the aviation industry is a global brand.
“They were tested in all the flying procedures and they are trusted to fly as commercial pilots,”Mr. Roebuck said.
He then urged the new pilots to keep flying alive after their graduation.
In his remarks, Kinsley Kuku, the Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Niger Delta and Head of federal government’s amnesty programme, praised the former militants.
He said the successful completion of the training programme of the pilots is a part of government’s peace initiative for the Niger Delta.
“I must commend the late Nigerian President Umaru Yar’Adua for his peace initiative aimed at  resolving the Niger Delta crisis and tackling the region’s under-development and environmental issues.
“The amnesty initiative came about when the military intervention failed.
“I must also commend Jonathan and the National Assembly for believing in the peace initiative by making funds available for the amnesty programmes,”Mr. Kuku said.
He said many people did not believe in the ability of the ex-militants to be trained as pilots.
“The training of these boys from  across the Niger Delta region of Nigeria is  a commendable commitment of the Nigerian government to building  a strong nation.
“Aviation is a global brand. With their commercial licence certificate they can work anywhere in the world.
“I must tell you that President Jonathan is very proud of you all. He has asked me to congratulate you and promised to host you to a dinner in Nigeria soon,’’ Kuku said.
In his remarks, a member of the Senate Committee on Niger Delta, Sen. George Sekibo, said the amnesty programmes’ success had shown that Jonathan was clearly on the right path.
“It has shown that President Jonathan is solving Nigerian problems and not those of the Niger Delta alone.
“The President may not know what he has achieved by this. It is not just training young pilots, but turning around lives in Nigeria. This type of training is building a new Nigerian nation by empowering the youths.
“We at the National Assembly are impressed and happy with the success recorded,’’ Mr. Sekibo said.
He urged the pilots to continue to pursue excellence in all their endeavours.
Also speaking, the Chairman, House Committee on Niger Delta, Wariman Ogoriba, commended the graduating pilots for making Nigeria proud.
“I personally must thank you for making Nigeria proud and for being good ambassadors of the country.
“With the success recorded and what we have seen, whenever more money is required by the Amnesty Office, appropriate fund will be approved by the National Assembly,”Mr. Ogoriba said.

PoliticsRe: Islamic Leaders Condemn Buhari’s Support For Amnesty by fkaz(op):
I still see shiek Gumi point of view as one of the best solution to boko haram, although i always see him as an extremist

But then, who is right between the sultan of sokoto(islamic leader) who called for amnesty for boko haram or shiek Gumi who see boko haram as a disrespect to the Holly quran. Any good muslim brother in the houze?

Amnesty For Boko Haram Is Hypocritical, They Ought To Be Crushed – Sheik Gumi Addressing the scourge of Boko Haram, Gumi said the call for amnesty is hypocritical adding that as an ideology, the sect has disrespect for the Quran or Hadith or even Scholarly fatwa. “They have their own interpretation,” he started. “Anything short of that is part of the enemy that should be killed. So on what basis should there be dialogue or amnesty? It is a creed that must be crushed; it is a creed the prophet – alaihis Salam- wished he is alive to exterminate.”
Sheik Gumi however put it beyond the present dispensation to end the Boko Haram insurgency “because it lacks the moral high ground to defeat them.”
Joining the fray of those who accuse the JTF of high handedness in its fight against the sect, Gumi said more innocent people had been killed, maimed, tortured and incarcerated by the JTF than Boko Haram itself or those that camouflage behind them.
According to him, “a whole region is made to suffer economically, socially and politically because of this blind war on terror. The present dispensation has everything to gain is refusing the‘amnesty’call for political reasons, that is why it is recalcitrant. Otherwise, if the need to crush BH is genuine, it would have been achieved since.”
Instead, he called for a “selected Muslim High ranking officer” of the armed forces to take charge of the whole ‘operation’ from investigations to incursions arguing that the situation requires “careful excision and only the person that feels the pains of society has the capacity to carry it out.”
He then likened it to the removal of a brain tumour which he said, “you don’t give that to an orthopedic surgeon no matter how good, to do that. It is an operation of precision not brute force. This choice of tackling a peculiar problem is the sign of good governance. Special missions have special requirements if success is the objective.”
He pointed out that “Boko Haram are armed individuals hiding is a civilian population. They do not control any high fire power to be engaged in a war. Therefore there is absolutely no need -what so ever- to deploy and ultimately exhaust the military in road blocks all over the spheres of their activities. What are needed are very good intelligence, special strike squads and the genuine cooperation of the civilian population which can never be achieved through intimidation.”

Islamic leaders have faulted calls by presidential candidate of the congress for progressive change, major general Muhammadu Buhari backing the federal government’s amnesty for members of the Boko Haram sect.
The leaders at the 2 nd northern region Jalsa Tarbiyah in Abuja, expressed surprise that the presidential candidate who understands the tenets of Islam would even think about supporting a diabolical group bent on destroying lives.
Delivering a keynote address, Dr Mashud Fashola however emphasized that terrorism would continue unless the federal government stops recklessly spending the nation’s resources and impoverishing the people.

PoliticsWe Haven’t Purchased Any New Aeroplanes – Amaechi by fkaz(op): 10:14am On Apr 13, 2013
By Henry Umoru
ABUJA- GOVERNOR Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State and Chairman, Nigeria Governors’ Forum yesterday said that the State government has not at the moment purchased new Airplanes, just as it was not contemplating going into such a venture.
Governor Amaechi described as a figment of imagination by those who have alleged that ahead of 2015 Presidential election, he acquired armoured helicopters and private jest, even as he stressed that the State government will not derail from keeping with its promise to render transparent and accountable stewardship.
According to him, ‘’the Rivers State government had announced its intention to purchase two security helicopters at several fora.’’
A statement signed yesterday in Abuja by the Rivers State Commissioner of Information and Communications, Ibim Semenitari read, ‘’the attention of the government of Rivers State has been drawn to deliberate and repeated attempts bya group of disgruntled and self-serving politicians to engage in a smear campaign against the Governor Chibuike Amaechiled administration.
‘’As a government we have watched with amazement as these charlatans go overboard in their attempt to concoct stories and seek for relevance and cheap popularity.
‘’The latest allegation is that Governor Amaechi has acquired armoured helicopters and private jest ahead of 2015. Whilst this is a figment of the writer’s imagination, the Rivers State government in keeping with its promise to render transparentand accountable stewardship to the people of Rivers State willlike to reiterate as follows:
The Rivers State government had announced its intention to purchase two security helicopters at several fora.
‘’The Rivers State Government has always owned a private jetand has NOT purchased any new airplanes nor does it intend to purchase one. As is typical of Governor Amaechi, such purchases would be openly and transparently done and so would not need to be a matter of conjecturing.
‘’The helicopters, 2 bell 412 helicopters with camera payload for aerial surveillance of Rivers State were purchased as part of the state government’s collaboration with the federal government and its support for the security agencies in the state.
‘’The total cost of the helicopters was 29 million USD. The Federal Government of Nigeria through the office of the National Security Adviser paid 15 million USD, while the Rivers State Government paid the balance. The Federal Government granted duty waiver.
‘’The aircraft are being freighted into Nigeria and will be reassembled in Lagos. The helicopters are to be operated by the Nigerian police in conjunction with the oil companies who have offered to bear some of the operating cost to enable government combat the menace of oil bunkering.
‘’The police took delivery of similar choppers in 2012 built by the same company. The 412 four axis choppers are rated the most advanced civil helicopters in the world.
‘’The acquisition, which was done with the support of the federal government, is to enhance security of lives and property in Rivers State.
‘’The Government of Rivers State has repeatedly supported the security agencies by investing in state of the art up to date security equipment as has indeed been acknowledged by all. Our investments have been pivotal to the restoration ofpeace and security not only in Rivers State but also in the Niger Delta and indeed the South South and South East regions of Nigeria.
‘’One finds it therefore very disturbing that anyone will trivialize a matter as serious as the security of not just the lives of Rivers people but also the commonwealth of all Nigerians.
‘’Finally the Rivers State government wishes to acknowledge and thank the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for his quick action and amazing support leading to the purchase of these helicopters. His commitment to national security and willingness to collaborate with al tiers of government and all sectors to ensure the security of lives and property is worthy of accolade and support.
‘’The Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi led administration wishes to re affirm its commitment to the people of Rivers State and the governor’s determination to fulfill his oath of office to protect lives and property of all who reside, work anddo business in Rivers State.’’

Symphony007: Everybody is bashing jonathan so i want to ask one question. This president is now spending almost half of the national budget on security, so the military cannot say they lack funding. He has done everything in his power to stop this bloodshed including the amnesty you're all attacking him for, so what next do you expect of him? To arm himself and lead troops to find boko haram? It's very easy to launch critisim but harder to provide solution. Whatelse do you want? A genocide in the north? What else?

naptu2: Boko Haram's "rejection" of the amnesty deal is not a disgrace to the Jonathan Administration and shouldn't really change anything. The government should go ahead with the amnesty programme.

Remember that MEND rejected the Niger Delta amnesty deal, but the amnesty programme still went ahead. In fact, Henry Okah's faction of MEND recently killed some policemen, yet the amnesty deal has brought relative peace to the Niger Delta.
Which faction of boko haram would they dialogue with?

Because Niger-delta militant had different leaders at that time, henry okah was just one among many.

vanunu: It is not GEJ that was disgraced, but the opposition politicians and northern elders, GEJ knew quite well that boko haram will never accept amnesty because they are real islamist, even the day that the northern elders came calling, GEJ asked them whether any of them had contact with the jihadist, but the answer was no. The issue is that the opposition and the N elders wanted to blackmail GEJ and GEJ did the right thing by playing along with them simple. This is Nigerian politics and only matured minds will understand.
And who is more matured between jonathan and BH, is it the flip-flop president or the boko haram who see the president as a man with rat brain?
My broda governance is not a joke, and the issue of boko haram is not a matter of playing along with human life. It is better he crush the bas*tard or he bow down to their request.

PoliticsKidnappers Kill Anambra’s First Dep. Gov, Chuddy Nwike by fkaz(op): 7:24pm On Apr 11, 2013
The first deputy governor of Anambra state and National VicePresident of Action Congress of Nigeria, Dr Chuddy Nwike who was kidnapped over three weeks ago has been killed by his abductors. This was confirmed today in a statement by the ACN publicity secretary in Anambra state, Okelo Madukaife.
The release which contains the details of the deceased politician reads: “With a heart full of pain and sorrow, Action Congress of Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter, in consultation with the Nwike Family of Azu Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State announces the death murder of Dr Chuddy Nwike, Ibolo Ogbunike , First Deputy Governor of Anambra State and National Vice President of the Action Congress of Nigeria (South East).
Dr Nwike’s body has been identified by Our State Chairman, Chief Amaechi Obidike, our State Secretary, Barr Emeka Ibe and his brother Dr Bufo Nwike at Agbor Police Station in DeltaState.
Dr Nwike, who became Deputy Governor of Anambra State under Gov Chukwuemeka Ezeife in 1991, was abducted by gunmen on March 19, 2013 by suspected kidnappers.
According to the family, the suspected kidnappers made contact with his brother Dr Bufo Nwike shortly after with a ransome demand of N30 million equivalent, delivered in US Dollars. The younger Dr Nwike, negotiated the sum to N5 million which delivered to a location in Delta State through a courier on Friday April 05, 2013,after rejecting the offer for the wife or the brother to deliver the money.
But rather than release the ex-Deputy Governor, the kidnappers seized the money and the courier on April 05, 2013, cutting off all communication, until the body was found.
All efforts and all contacts made by our party to relevant authorities had not yielded any dividend and have surprisingly not even drawn any concern from quarters we took for granted.
We worked and prayed to see Dr Nwike return safe and alive to continue contributing as he has been doing to our party, but we have not. We toiled and moiled to see our South East National Vice Chairman, play his traditional fatherly role in the tasks immediately before us. But we are crest-fallen that Dr Nwike as gone the way of all mortals, though in a way we would have wished away.
We are tremendously ashamed of the circumstances of his death and wish we could now erase from history that a former Deputy Governor of a State in Nigeria died in this manner.
Our Leader Dr Chris Nwabueze Ngige mourns, our committedparty faithfuls weep and our overwhelming supporters wail, but Dr Nwike, Ibolo Ogbunike ,distinguished medical Doctor, calculative politician and quintessential statesman is no more.
Since the security agencies did not succeed in tracking down Anambra’s Deputy Governor in life, we urge them to rise and smash all obstacles on the way to unearthing the abductors and killers of ACN’s rare gem, an embodiment of peace and knowledge.
“We urge them to leave no stone unturned and not be beaten by any decoy until the nation has the right answers to the nagging questions. For we may know who will it be next?”
