Christianity Etc › Re: How You Can Help Your Children Follow The Growth Pattern Of Jesus by flamingREED(m): 6:17pm On Mar 05, 2017
Interesting15:
Every reasonable parent surely desires children that would make them proud and happy in life. And the easiest way you can have children who will grow into responsible and successful adults in life, is to instill the fear of God in them right from childhood.

When a youth have the fear of God, he/she shuns wrong things that might soil the parent's names, but indulges in good and productive things that will make them happy and proud (Read Genesis 39)

Jesus has been in existence right from the foundations of the world (Revelation Chapter One Verse Eight) Then he decided coming to the world to die for man's sins and save us from hell. He was divinely placed in Mary's womb, and came into this world like every other baby.

Despite being God in man, when He was still a Young Boy, He grew in the will of God. Despite growing around other kids that could have corrupted Him and made Him deviate from the Purpose of God for His life, He still followed God's Will accordingly, and guess what, He was successful!!

Do you also want your children to be God-fearing and successful in life despite how corrupt many young ones are today? Then do these:

- Lead your children to Jesus Christ at the very earliest stages of their lives.

- Teach them the Word of God regularly.

- Always remind them of the Word Of God again and again, alongside the consequences of going against the Word. Also keep reminding them of the blessings associated with doing the will of God.

- You yourself needs to be a God-fearing born again Christian. Children prefers to follow examples than words. Your children are looking at you.

- Pray for them regularly, and always pray at home.

- Try to provide for their necessary needs so they won't want to venture into ungodly things just to get what they want.

- Take them regularly with you to Church and other good Christian gatherings. The tendencies are high that they would live to practice what they have learnt from childhood.

- Always discipline them appropriately when due.

God will use our young ones for His Own Glory in Jesus Mighty Name. Amen!

pavy:
Your level of ignorance on this issue is alarming! How can you say that the burden bearers in the church are the rich. Now let me use the example you gave. In a church of say 5 million members. Let's say 5% of that population are wealthy while the rest fall into the category of your 30k/month salary.

If you calculate 95% of 5 million, the figure will be 4,750,000. Now multiply that figure by N3000 tithe monthly, what you have is billions which even the tithe of the extremely wealthy 5% put together may not measure up to, all things being equal.

Therefore, it is wrong for you to insinuate that the contributions of the poor amount to nothing in the devpt of the church. There is strength in numbers my dear. A few poor persons donating 'change' might be worthless. But when millions of people donate ordinary N50 each, my brother, even Barclays will beg you to bank with them.
A church of 5 million members? Where in Nigeria?
Did you also consider the unemployed youngsters and school leavers who are part of the church membership?
Do your Maths again.
Understand that the church can only hold one-tenth of the wealth of the working class.
Anything above that is given by freewill or sacrificially.
If the people hold 85% of their own wealth,
How come that 85% of their wealth cannot do for them what 10 - 15% tithes and offering can do? Because you want the church to care for everyone with that same percentage.

If you're unbiased enough, can you tell how much it takes to run a church?

Four or five months at the tail end of last year, Deeper Life Port Harcourt was supposed to spend about #30 000 000 (thirty million naira) each of those months to execute the crusade.

And we have over a billion naira auditorium in the pipeline here in PH.

We execute several retreats and convocations in the year which gulp hundreds of million if not billions.

We send part of the offerings to Lagos which are in turn released to build churches and furnish some existing ones.

Think of the staff in PH headquarters plus those in the Rivers regions who are on salaries: Say they are 300 in number and each receives 50 000 naira monthly, I.e #15m monthly.

There are also those on scholarships and charity.

Now, say we have 50 000 paying #5000 tithe monthly. That adds up to #250m a month.
Does that seem to meet the needs of the church in the long run?

In summary, a true church is just.
The God that instituted tithing specifically said: 'THAT there may be meat in MY house'.
It's entirely for church uses, not necessarily for charity'.

But that we still do.

Don't think you know much about Deeper Life.

Ezechinwa:
the church is the hope for the poor
I don't agree much.

The hope of the poor is his God-given commonsense.

How many people did Christ our Lord empower economically?

His very words are: 'ye have the poor always, but me ye have not always; when ye WILL, do them good '..

Christ Jesus said this when a skeptic thought a very expensive ointment prophetically poured on him could have been sold for so much money and given to the poor.

That's why men err often when they try to condemn and criticize spirituality, some even refer the church to the judgement day. Funny.

Yes we are to obey this:

Galatians 2
10 Only they would that we should REMEMBER THE POOR; the same which I also was forward to do.

But to what extent?

If we can make them contented, that's great already. Why and how?

1 Timothy 6
6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.
8 AND HAVING FOOD AND RAIMENT LET US BE THEREWITH CONTENT.

Moreover, God does not encourage idleness and busy bodying in other men's matters.

And whoever is hale and cannot work and provide for his family is an infidel.

It's more blessed to give than to receive.

God's will is that his people take responsibly for their lives and be blessed and not rather to think of themselves as second class citizens.

Did you hear Peter and the other disciple say, 'silver and gold have I none' to the lame man at the beautiful gate?

There's a serious limit to the material help the church can offer the society. Do the Maths.

THOUGH AMERICA'S RELIGIOUS SCHOOLS BE FREE, BUT I TELL YOU, THEY PUMP REAL MONEY INTO EDUCATION.

WATCH ANY OF NOVA'S DOCUMENTARY AND SEE THAT IT'S NOT JUST THE GOVERNMENT OR CHURCH THAT BEARS THEIR CAREER BURDEN, BUT ALSO AFFLUENT AND PASSIONATE PATRIOTS WHO KNOW THAT GOOD EDUCATION IS NOT ANYWHERE NEAR FREE. THEY LOVE THIS COMMON GOAL THAT AMERICANS NEED GREAT EDUCATION.

DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY BILLION DOLLARS AMERICA AND WEALTHY AMERICANS CONTRIBUTE YEARLY TO FUND EDUCATION/RESEARCH?

BUT HERE, DO WE HAVE SUCH SELFLESS STATE, GOVERNMENT AND VISIONARY AFFLUENT PATRIOTS?

SO, THE CHURCH HAS TO IMPROVISE TO ENSURE IT'S SERVICE TO HUMANITY IS NOBLE ENOUGH.

MOREOVER, CHRIST DIDN'T COMMAND THE CHURCH TO BUILD SCHOOLS:
THE LEAST THE STATE/CITIZENS SHOULD DO IS TO BE GRATEFUL.

DO YOU THINK POOR CHURCH MEMBERS COULD HAVE BUILT DEEPER LIFE'S 30 000 SEATER AUDITORIUM, THIS UNIVERSITY PLUS THE HIGH SCHOOLS IN SOME STATES TO STANDARD?

A POOR MAN WOULD PAY ONE-TENTH OF HIS SALARY A MONTH, IF HE'S FAITHFUL.
DO THE MATHS. SAY HE EARNS #30 000 MONTHLY, HIS TOTAL OFFERING IN THREE MONTHS IS #3000 X 3 = #9000. TELL ME, WILL THIS PAY HIS CHILD'S SCHOOL FEES PER TERM, AFFORDING THE CHILD AN UP-TO-DATE AND ADVANCED TUITION AND PAY THE TEACHER'S REASONABLE FEES AND ALSO SUPPORT THE RUNNING OF THE SCHOOL?

IN A YEAR THE MAN WOULD HAVE CONTRIBUTED ONLY #30 000. IS THAT WHAT WILL GUARANTEE HIS FAMILY OF FOUR ENROLLMENT INTO A HIGH-STANDARD PRIVATE UNIVERSITY?

SOME CHRISTIANS LIKE US WHO WERE WARY OF COVETOUSNESS HAVE BECOME GREAT MINDS TODAY BECAUSE WE BELIEVED GOD AND SUPPORTED HIS COURSE IN OUR OWN LITTLE WAYS,
AND OUR PERSUASION IS TO DO 'THAT LITTLE WE CAN FOR THE CHURCH, AND NOT TO EXPECT SOME GREAT THING THE CHURCH CAN DO FOR US'

You would be surprised that the fees covers only cost of maintenance and payment or even part of salaries, running a university isn't cheap. I won't be surprised if the church still pumps money to pay some salaries . In all honesty saying they are making profit may not be fair.

Mfm's MTU is around the same range 600-700 and they have a sort of scheme for indigent students (a sort of scholarship scheme ) where students can be adopted and someone either pays their fees or pay for their meals. Even standard feeding is now expensive.

The simple truth is quality education is expensive, studying science is even more expensive. Just one small equipment can run to millions of naira now that the exchange rate is terrible.

This is one of the reasons I was in support of LASU's increase then to 250,000, the fees students pay doesn't go anywhere and that's why we keep having terrible hostels, terrible facilities etc since government can't keep up with the cost.

Like someone said on this thread, somebody pays for the free or highly subsidized education we see. In some countries its the Government.

I would be very surprised if I see a private uni that charges less than 600k.

A university is more than structures that what some people don't understand and have some courses are more expensive than others because of the costs put in place to get such departments rolling.

People may have contributed to build a university but do you expect people to keep contributing to maintain the university, the university has to be maintained from fees paid.
You've nailed it fairly tightly.

Great education isn't cheap at all.

"I could not resist talking about this, early today. The number of registered churches in Nigeria is 23,216 according to the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria. Note that these churches have branches. There may be over 2,000,000 documented church branches in Nigeria. Add to this, all the Mosques and undocumented religious houses all over Nigeria, we may be talking of 5,000,000. It calls for concern. Our major business in Nigeria presently is religion or faith marketing. Yet this business is tax free and enjoy free entry. Juxtapose this with the production base in Nigeria, you will see why we are a poor nation with all forms of recession. Last year there are just slightly about 1000 manufacturing companies still hanging out there in Nigeria. Many of them are even threatening closure. Some of the old factory premises have been converted to churches and Mosques. It is sad. These companies who produce what we eat and use in this country pay tax and go through harrowing experience to do business. They cannot afford the limousines, luxury homes and private planes these faith leaders use, yet they are the ones that pay tax which we use to build roads that these faith preachers travel. We have got many things wrong in this country. Faith without work and expecting miracles is definitely a mirage. Time to have a personal relationship with God and focus on productive work. I am a Christian and a believer but I find it difficult to accept what is going on. The starting point is to bring all churches, mosques and religious houses to the tax bracket, tax religious organizations as we tax our companies. Give them tax deductions/benefits where they spend on charity as applied to businesses Nigeria.
According to one of my Wards whom I am proud to have mentored "Nigeria would have been such a great country to live in if the passion with which churches are created is the same way enterprises are established and industries developed by individuals. With this, meaningful and gainful employment would have become a thing of the past.
In a sharp departure from what I was thought in my home when I was growing up, I suddenly realized that nobody talks about industry and hard work anymore in Nigeria but miracle.
It is so painful that the teachings of hard work, honesty and industry have been replaced with the teachings of prosperity via a divine means in my dear country.
Professor Alan Rugman, of blessed memory, thought me at Henley Business School that key factors of economic growth in any country are the presence of viable industries and strong competition within the industries.
We must all imbibe the spirit of hard work, industry, patriotism and honesty for us to grow as a nation"
That is the view of one of the 24 young and promising Business Managers that I mentor. It is a food for thought as we start the new year."
You make it look like Christians are forced to give. And how many industries have you and your government raised from ageless taxing?
And you anti-Christly suggest that God's church should be taxed. It's the people's money. Don't be a busy body in other men's matters. Moreover, there have been many miracles which, even if your country was sold, could not have been bought.
Your twisted faith will land you in destruction.
