I usually track NTA Plus on Galaxy 25 at 97°W here in the USA. I know! Who would want to watch NTA with their terrible picture, and bad programmimg etc. As a true son of the soil, I always tune to NTA Plus at least 4 times a week to keep abreast of what is going on in Nigeria, no matter how flimsy the programing is. But the past few days, the Channel disappears from around 19:00 hrs (7pm) here which is 00:00 hrs (12:00 Mid night) Nigeria Time. My question is this. Those of you in Europe or Nigeria that Track NTA on other birds, are you guys experiencing this black out? It should be noted that all other channels on the same transponder (Frequency) as NTA do not have this problem. Maybe they forgot to pay their Transponder rental fee or are they cutting down on transmission time? Any feedback will be highly appreciated!!!! Galaxy 25 at 97°W 11898 V |

Nice to know you are still out there, it's been a while since we heard from you. don't be so harsh on that post though, i think he mentioned he is into fabrication, for those of us dreaming of getting a 5.5m dish to receive one of those Eurobirds, it is nice to know people like this are around. Gangsta101!!! Didn't mean to be harsh. It was the mention of "Bore Hole and Erection" that threw me off, thereby making me not to process the Dish Fabrication part of his/her post. |

memento: Help!!! the signal of my fta just went off since morning ard 12noon, i use two dish, pas 7,10 and w4. I try to see if its the weather. But till now 5.04pm the signals arent back. the receiver seems to be working well and the tv too. All i get is the red, no green at all and i didnt tamper with anything. Please what do you suggest i do?? Its urgent. Have you checked your connections from the LNB to the Receiver? Power off and power on your receiver to reset the receiver. Do you have any switches in your connection? If so, disconnect the cable from the switch and plug it directly from the LNB to the receiver. Check for lose cables, making sure everthing is tight. Remember to shut off your Receiver before unscrewing your cables from your DiseqC switch if you have any otherwise, you will destroy it. |

enitan2002: @ all, i've not really been impressed so far with what i've been reading here on this thread for the past few days and am dead sure other gurus will feel the same way i feel and thats the main reason i've not really been posting these few days, there're so many questions that were not supposed to be ask i.e some past questions that have been treated to a very far detail, and some of these questions just keep on pissing someone off, imagine attending to the same issues all over again everyday, how would you feel just try to put yourself in that shoe and you'll understand what am saying. The major problem we have in this country is reading problem, we don't have time to read, the book-pages are too much, this and that, just some flimsy excuses, but if we are to look at the number of pages this thread has gotten to well i don't blame them but still yet there's still something to be done, at the 1st page of this thread, so many contact of learned fellows were given there, you can put a midnite call through to any of those numbers and am dead sure you'll be well attended to, you can imagine someone asking the kind of channels to be expecting in FTA, or what FTA is all about at this stage where this thread has gotten to, common get off it. So I imbibe everyone especially the newbie to put a midnite call through to some of the numbers and their questions will be attended to. And i noticed another bad behaviour in some of us, those that are seeking for knowledge will leave their contact details especially phone numbers for people to call them, what do you call yourself, you are the one in dire need of help so it has to be the other way roung, Seek and ye shall find that is if you seek earnestly for knowledge that answers are already waiting for you. It shall be well with you, enitan2002!!! You took the words right out of mouth!!! I can't thank you enough for this your well expressed view. We can now understand why it is not good to cheat during those primary, secondary and tertiary institution day. Please, people READ!! READ AND READ!!!!! It is good for your mental development ooooooooooooooh!! |

Make sure to shuff off your Strong Decoder box when connecting and disconnecting the cables to the DiseqC switch from your LNB, otherwise, you will burn, destroy or blow the DiseqC switch. |

All FTA lovers on Nairaland:
In addition to buying the right LNB, Dish Size, and Pointing and aiming your dish, buying the right Coaxial cable is very important to your satellite installations. Cables with a low rating frequency can prevent you from locking on a particular Transponder/frequency on a given satellite or intermittently loss signal. To have optimum signal it is recommended that you use cables with a rating range of between 900 MHz — 2.4 GHz. Based on my location the Cable that come to mind is the RG6 or RG-6 cable. RG59 or RG-59 on the other hand is rated at maximum 1000MHz. I don't know what the cable designation number will be in Nigeria, but the key is to buy cables that can operate from 900MHz to 2.4GHz. Furthermore, cables with this specification can run up to 150ft (46 meters) without signal loss or degradation. My advice; do not use inferior cables for your installation, or the regular cable used for over the air (OTA) TV antenna, otherwise, your signal will suffer. |

toxnaija: Enigma, thanks for your comment. A lot of gurus in the house called me to express their solidarity. Well,I think we should drop it.I think a lot of Nigerians are reaping the 'benefits' of poor communication skills at job interviews. I was only worried for them ooo. I am sorry for trying to turn around our beloved country. I will continue to keep shut.Have you installed the Nilesat dish you talked about? Please tell me about Technomate receiver. Is it the best receiver? Which Nilesat LNB and receiver would be appropriate for the middle of UK? I will surely visit you as soon as I arrive so as to learn more about the ftas in the UK.Or do I come with a Fuji lnb and a patched Strong X receiver? all, Can anyone tell me more about HD tv? Jazeera sports now has an HD channel free to air on Nilesat but no visuals just audio on my Strong X receiver. Do I need to buy any accessory. Gurus outside Africa especially Enigma and F-Marshall,this is an assignment for you sirs! Toxnaija. If you decide to travel to the UK with your Strong receiver, make sure you load the original factory firmware/software into it. You can save your patch in a USB stick and install it into the Strong receiver, or when you get there you can always download the patch from the internet. I say this because, by some random misfortune, you wouldn't want during your routine search at your port of entry, for the UK immigration officers to stop your entry into the UK for possessing a cracked box! Using FTA altered box to receive Satellite signals is frowned upon seriously in Europe and USA. Regarding HD Signals you'll need an HD (High Definition) capable receiver to receive HD Signal content from Al Jazeera. Here in the USA, there are quite a few boxes that are HD capable. If you intend to get an HD receiver, I would suggest you get the one that is "MPEG 4" capable, because the MPEG 2 capable ones can't display MPEG 4 singals. On the other hand, MPEG 4 decoders can display both MPEG 4, MPEG 2 and STD (standard definition). Just to name a few. The list of FTA receivers that are HD cable here in the USA are; Sonicview SV-HD8000, Viewsat 9000 HD, Coolsat 8000HD & Coolsat 8100HD. Note: This is just a guide. I'm not sure the HD receivers you see in the link may be compatible with your setup in Nigeria. Click here to see pictures and specifications for some of the receivers. Enigma: You are going to have to forgive me for using an expletive (I don't normally use them), but NTA's picture quality was sh*te - utterly diabolical. I was watching BBC jejely but when the Naija team was about to march past, I thought to have a look at what NTA was doing with it, and it was just crap, so I returned to BBC peacefully. We/Naija are just uselessly all mouth in some things; as they say in Texas; "all hat and no cattle"! How could they (NTA) present such a poor quality of a video, knowing fully well that the entire world will be watching. Are they using antiquated equipment from the 1950's or what? Come to think of it. How many English, German or French people have you seen name their offspring after African, I mean Nigerian sounding names? Yet we brake our necks going by names Robert Samuel or John Brattle. We're here to teach and learn FTA from each other, and not for extra morale classes in written grammer. Enough said. Hold the base of your LNB (the area around where you attach your cable). Move the LNB left or right, just like you're moving the long hand on a clock to set the time on a (mechanical) wall clock. Yes, I think we should add it to the rules that the posting of keys are not allowed; and that it should be in very visible/large print so that there is no excuse. It is ok to post 6969 or 8280 as those are not keys but codes for the particular receiver.
@F_Marshal
Sorry about getting the spelling wrong; my eyes deceived me. (I wonder if you have seen that thing with bad spellings going round the Net and the way the brain reads what the words 'should' be despite how they are spelt?)
I have used the Strong on only two occasions; both times in Naija; both times when assisting others to install dishes. If one wants to play safe (and also it will probably be cheaper) the thing to do will be to buy a Strong receiver when in Naija --- though double checking that it is multicrypt (they usually are anyway). The thing is that the manufacturers of the Strong receiver, as I understand it, are part (or wholly?) owners of MyTV, so it can be guaranteed that the receivers they bring will be suitable for MyTV's Conax encryption. But I think they have been careful that the receivers that they push into the Nigerian market also does Irdeto for DSTV.
Now the Technomate: the TM has a lot of support; the TM 5400 has some advantages: 1. it is multicrypt so will do both Irdeto and Conax and is thus suitable for Nigeria; 2. it can take up to 10,000 channels; 3. it has USB support for patching; 4. it is PVR 'ready' via USB.
Now back to the support: the support mainly comes from the following site: _http://alsat.co.uk/forum/index.php. It is generally kept up to date with patches and currently opens as many encrypted channels as any other receiver (except card sharing) and CAMs (except the Diablo CAM). Have a look at that website --- though to get the full gist, you have to register (they keep some things away from non-registered lurkers).
Funny, in Naija the main receiver that I use is a Hivion 9090 which is also multicrypt and is well supported with patches. Points 1, 3,2 & 4 in that order have totally swayed my views. Mainly 1 & 3 are the clincher. I will look at the site and soak in as much info as possible. Now, is the TM 4500 the latest model? About how much does TM 4500 cost in your neck of the woods? Where did you buy the Hivion 9090 from? |

Enigma: @toxnaija
To your questions regarding Nilesat/Leicester etc. In the UK, Nilesat is like holy grail for sat hobbyists because it is not easy to get; officially, the footprint does not reach here but it still can be received sometimes. In the south, like London & Kent, a 1.2m dish will get the vertical transponders but will not even get the horizontal transponders generally except for some lucky moments. At the moment, even I don't yet get Nilesat; I am just planning to get a 1.1 dish to be able to get some of the vertical transponders.
Leicester is slightly further north of London, that means that you really need at least a 1.2m dish to be assured of getting some of Nilesat. However, there is no problem with getting channels here. Even a motorised 60cm dish should readily receive thousands of channels - depending on line of sight. My recommendation will be for you to get a 1.1m (or 1.2m) dish and motorise it. If you like you can get a small 43cm dish for 28e (i.e. where the 'Sky' satellite is) --- or even just stick to the single large dish. If you go to lyngsat and look at 28e, you will see all the free (totally FTA) channels from that satellite; if I were you, I won't even bother to subscribe to Sky (though I myself actually subscribe to some of it!) and save money sticking to the FTA channels.
If you get a receiver like the Technomate 5400 and patch it, you will usually be able to open some encrypted channels from across Europe. Unless you want to subscribe to Sky, there is no need to bother buying the Sky receiver at all (at the moment at any rate i.e. unless and until they drop the charge they impose for using their PVR).
Edited
@ F_Marshal
I feel you; I hope people will understand this very very important matter. Enigma, how good is the support for the Technomate 5400? I would like to do some Naija setups (personal use) when i go home. I have been kind of been leaning towards the Strong STB, but every so often I read about Technomate products. Have you ever used a Strong STB before, if so how would you comapre the two? And Oh, I corrected my Screen name in my reply. |

Please please please EDIT your post and REMOVE the keys; or if tox is not around, could a moderator please remove the keys!.
Posting keys on a site like this is a sure way to get into trouble; in Europe sites are closed down for this and operators prosecuted for it; that is why most key sites are based/hosted in the far East well out of Europe.
Even when linking to a key site, do not make it a live link; instead make it a dead link by using something like _http or ht*p etc. Enigma, they don't seem to get it. Until Seun get's a reprimand from the Authorities some of these attitudes will continue unabated. Nairaland FTA lovers, please stop posting Keys in public forums!!!!! |

Good information bro , but as you can see, we all give free information here, but sure u can't give us your dish , for free oo , no problem , here we need you to show us pictures of dish you have made and maybe some thats are already put into use. Definitely you will know about using multiple LNB on the dish show us a demo actually under use. Thats the best you can do , and definitely you need to make your price public too , we don't have to call individually to ask for just that. We only want to call you to order. Think you can handle that, at least its not secret that you are a business man.
justx24 To add to justx24's statement. Nilesat, it is good to let FTA enthusiasts know you're in business of selling Satellite equipment, but we expect you to do what Justx24 has indicated. List the prices of equipment, services and installation etc. Make your prices public and not on a call by call basis. You should also be willing to transfer "public Technical knowledge" of FTA to your customers and forum users without asking for remuneration (fees). Better still if you have a website give us the link so that we can browse through your products. |

biggjoe: @ftalover, your questions on how to know c-band and ku-band takes us back to the principles of satellite transmission which i treated on the first post of this thread. some better gurus on this forum have even treated that issue more deeply.
i think u have to go back to the first post of the thread and check it out.
theres also an faq document attached to that particular post that might help u.
again, you're not getting the breakthru you're referring to, e.i, getting BBC on C-band with 90cm dish. Its almost impossiblle. BBC is on the same intelsat 7/10 but on the c-band frequency. so u need a bigger dish than 90cm and a c-band lnb. To add to what Biggjoe just wrote. You need a 1.8meter (6ft) to 2.7meter (8ft) dish to Recieve C-band signals. You also need a C-band LNB, which is different from the current KU band LNB you are using. If you get a 1.8 or 2.4m dish you can get a Dual C-Band / KU Band LNB and your all set. Like this one here. |
