@toxnaija,
Why don't you hook up with F-Marshal now that you're in the UK? It seems to me that your best bet for FTA enjoyment over there is to enlist his help so as to get started. This online FTA you're into now may not be as convenient as watching it live on tv. Besides, with your wealth of experience so far, you could be our man on ground for experimenting with what is obtainable in out-of-footprint birds like Astra 2D using 90cm dish or less. smiley
That will be a heck of a trip! smiley In as much as I would enjoy hosting Toxnaija, but location, logistics and geography can't allow that from his present location. sad Toxnaija and I are oceans apart. He's in the UK, while I'm in North America. USA to be precise. Enigma would be a better person to help with Tox's FTA needs. This is assuming Tox is a close distance to Enigma. smiley

@F_Marshal,
Nice pics. Maybe a little size increase from 1.2 to 1.8m for the dish could have made all the difference, don't you think?
Thanks, but as I stated earlier, I just did it for fun. Wasn't actually interested in getting anything bigger than 1.2m, as it would have a negative impact on my property value, and least to say my neigbours too. Secondly, there are almost Identical C-band signals scattered around the KU band over here in North America. So, for what it is worth, it was an experiment which I very much enjoyed.

Oh, BTW, I enjoyed reading your take on the Power inveter stuff. NEPA, abi na PHCN have no holds on anyone who goes the route you suggested.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv (part 4) by FMarshal2(m): 5:36pm On Nov 05, 2009
This is my Mini-Bud C-band Summer Project. The Dish is 1.20M Dish, pointing at Galaxy 16 @ 99.0°W. I got all the strong transponders, but wasn't able to receive all the C-band frequencies on that bird, because of the dish size limitation. It was nice to get C-band signals with a 1.2M dish. Mind you, it was just for fun. If you have a 1.20M dish and a C-band LNB, maybe you could try it. You also need the Conical Scala to make (boost) the signal stable. Enjoy the photos: grin cool

I got this from dishpointer.com when i searched for my location with a stab HH 100 motor for true south and true north, though i planned to apply it over d weekend.
Your Location Satellite Data Dish Setup Data

@ fmarshal,

it means cutting off the base of the lnb with a saw.just as u rightly said.if u look at the picture of my dish set up i posted few weeks ago,u will see it

boldly.the digisat lnb i use has been cut,likewise the pauxis lnb i used as an attachment for nss 7 has been cut too.the cutting helps ur signal

strenght.like wise when u are using a c band lnb.when u cut a glass of the same size with ur dielctric and use it, it boost ur signal with 10%.u can

confirm by giving it  a trial urself.and for easy installation of your 1.8m or 2.4m set up,the distance between the base of ur lnb and the centre of ur

1.8m dish should be exactly 27 inches when measured with a tape,and that of the 2.4m dish should be exactly 36 inches.if u use these

measurements,it will save u a lot of stress when setting up ur dish.these two measurements are the required focal lenght for the two different dish

sizes.and as for the fuji lnb issue,u cannot get an original fuji like the old fuji available in the past.except u can hunt for a fairly used original

lnb.digisat as far as i am concerned is a very very good lnb and can perform even better than the fuji available in the market these days.i even had

to buy and keep the 2way digisat as its always very scarce in the market .
Dejsam, thanks for the expalanation. grin

@ the Red highlighted: It should be noted that those figures you stated should only be applicable to a particular manufactured or Brand of dish. Those shouldn't be a standard Focal point measurement for 1.8 and 2.4m dishes forall brands and instances.

EDIT: Are these the LNBs you were referring to? I can't see the area(s) that was sawed off!
@ all am going to miss cheater in etv if etv eventually go off. Anyway i ve too many alternative even though they went off is only cheaters i enjoy watching. In the other hand i like etv to even go so that our pple ll stop settling easily for one satellite that has very little or nothing at all to offer. Let the fighting spirit of all go high so that many ll start looking for alternative for 90cm dishes. That the spirit of FTA.     @ George D i finally nail my badr. As i always say i believe in trying new things. At first a refused to use fuji  lnb but after you advice for it,i tried it and it failed me. So i return back my shop 2.0db lnb and continue enjoying my precious fox movie. It was yesterday i came across Old Master Digisat 2.0db,it was  already cut by me long time ago,so i fixed it and still NoWay. I now removed it and cut it exactly the way i cut the shop lnb and fix it and wam! for the first time my mbc jump to 50% bbc,euronews,dubai one,all the jsc came out. So u see we mustnt always depend on fuji afterall is very expensive. Imagine fuji being sold for N5,500 here in ph and i got digisat from north for N800. And this time digisat performed better. Maybe fuji is good for fiber dishes but that i confirm once i used this my latest cutting on fiber dish with digisat.     @ emeystan  if srt 4910 is sold for 9k in alaba then my name is James Bond lol.
huh Pitodenz, can you clarify the red highligted above? huh When you say you cut the LNB, do you mean removing the LNB cover, or physically (sawing off) cutting the LNB feed horn or what? Can you post a good picture of the "cut LNB? cool

@ George_D, Twinstaiye and Dejsam and All:

Regarding the upgrade from Analog TV to Digital TV signals by NTA; I'm quite surprised that they're actually starting the conversion this early. We all know how Nigeria Authorities wait until the last minute to implement planned projects. In my previous posts and tips on this forum, starting from season 1, (i believe)  I have been telling people to get ready for this change from Analog to Digital Signals and also for users to buy Mpeg 4 compliant receivers and TV. Here is where  I talked about USA's switch from Analog to Digital Signals, and a link to an article discussing when Nigeria will convert to Digital TV signal.

Lagos/Southern Nigeria members,
pls can anyone help look for a place where we can get cheap and good mpeg4 decoders.Enitan/Olofofo,I know both of u are really good in hunting for stuffs like that.We need to add it to our collections.Is it only Daarsat decoder that can pick its signals? @ the highlighted:
Your regular LNB can & will receive MPEG 4 signals. Don't fall for the sale's pitch of some greedy vendors. Use the current LNB that you have, it will work. As I said earlier (in one of my previous posts) make sure you buy a decoder capable of decoding MPEG ,2 & 4:2.0, 4:2:2. Don't foget Blindscan is a must, but many of them don't have Blind scan feature. I hope this helps.

This emperor called OGD compels his commissioners to kneel down when addressing him. He should by now no that his days in power are numbered. The nude picture of Alausa published in Compasss is a continuation of Ziggy politics in Ogun and it would certainly lead to a chain of events the end of which OGD would gnash his teeth over very soon.

In conclusion, OGD once sends assailants after me when I was the editor of National Life newspaper. A guy who identified himself as Tokunbo with phone numbers; 08023337877 and 08052424406 came with his gang to look for me in the office. @ all.
just a little of brainstorming here.
two receiver systems with nose figure ratings 0.9dB and one of 0.3dB, which has the best perfomance?How would you relate these values to their ability filter your signal from the noise?
Your time starts now!
tongue Teacher wey no sabi ansa to de kweshon wey im ask. Hia na de ansa o! grin

The key to db noise ratio is this; The lower the noise ratio, the better the receiver processes the signal received. Therefore, a .3db rating is better than a 0.9db rating. I hope this helps. smiley

Enigma:
You use a dielectric when the satellite/transponder you are chasing use circular polarity e.g. instead of 11823 H you have 11823 R (i.e. Right); or instead of 11823 V you have 11823 L (i.e. Left). Sometimes, if the signal is strong, you might not need the dielectric.

Our regular 11823 H/V use linear polarity.

(PS I hope I've got all that the right way round)
salamander:
@Enigma, George_D, all

I just checked lyngsat and Flysat. Though I know Intelsat 7/10 C and Paksat require di-electric, the polarisation there are either H or V. Where does the theory of R and L comes in?
@All,

Dielectric polarisation only applies to  C-band fequencies when (R) Right =(V) or Vertical and (L)=left or Horizontal.  For example 4075(R) on C-band will translate to 4075 (V) vertical using a dielectric plate. I hope this makes things clear.

I have had problems with free to air satellites, I just found this press release

NTA: The Nigerian Television Authority, by the authority of Nigeria’s Federal Government has formed a partnership, and signed an agreement with Suncastv to broadcast NTA programming in the United States. Suncastv is the only authorized IPTV broadcaster of NTA programming in the United States.

I have been watching NTA programming on http://mynigeriatv.com/

if you have a chance check it out
As far as I know and can confirm, NTA is Legally FTA in NorthAmerica on Galaxy 19 @ 97.0°W. Whenever, I tune to it, it never lasts more than 6 minutes on the average due overall poor quality. embarassed As I have said many times on this forum before, unless NTA improve the picture & sound qualities, Program content, Camera work & Editing, and overall presentation, NTA is not worth paying 1 Kobo for to watch. I admire your courage and sentiments, but the NTA of old is a lot better that the current NTA. If you're part of NTA tell them to go back to basics. Thank you. smiley

All You Ever Wanted To Know About RG6 Copper vs. Copper Clad Steel Cables and More.

RG6 Copper vs. Copper Clad Steel:
C/P from ABCcables.com

What is the difference between RG6 copper clad steel and RG6 copper? Before we discuss all the disadvantages and the advantages of copper clad steel conductors versus solid copper center conductors, we

For RG-6 coaxial cable, the main issue for copper is whether the center conductor is solid copper or copper-clad steel. Since an installation of RG6 cable may later need to be moved or switched to another use that requires some power, it's definitely better to use a solid copper center conductor.

Copper-clad is referring to a center conductor that is made from steel, and then the steel gets a very thin coating of copper. Copper-clad has the distinct advantage of greater cable stiffness to withstand insertion forces repeatedly. The cable is less likely to kink or bend when the cables are being pulled around during their installation. With copper clad steel, the signal travels on the surface of the conductor, not in the center of the conductor.  See attachment for the rest of the info:
