Enigma: Actually, you guys are right; it is not a very good idea to post one's email address on the Net; in some forums the admins will even remove it.
Anyway, as for Nilesat the packages that people open with patch/keys are ART/Showtime and I think the patches/keys for opening them are currently down and not working ---- though I haven't really kept up to date especially as I don't currently get Nilesat. That is why the Administrator of this Website should introduce a PM (Private Message) feature on this board/forum. |

biggjoe: @F Marshal I have visited this Selfsat site and I think they are only concerned about marketing their products.
What i really want to know is how the reception of the waves happens.
In normal parabolic dish the microwave signal lands on the dish and is channelled towards the the feed horn as a result of the parabolic shape of the dish.
But for this flat antenna I wonder
Does it mean that the LNB is incorporated on the flat dish? The flat dish has the LNB incorporated into flat dish. I have not personally tested the dish myself as they are not yet available on this side of the ocean (USA). I did call the would be Vendors here in the USA (New York) and they said the dish will be available in the USA starting in September of 2008. Knowing that I hate the "Icy cold" windy weather of the Fall, it will be tough to test the dish from November tru April because of the cold. |

ftalover: Captainus, How do I get my dish motorised, like yours? Could I get the motor here in Lagos. Thanks!! Have you read through most of the posts here? If not, maybe you should. There are numerous mentions of how, where, who you can obtain a motorized dish from in Nigeria. There are many FTA guys here with their phone numbers listed who can help you with buying/installing dishes. Furthermore, I think you will benefit tremendously if you read the posts so that you can help your installer during your dish installation, better still you will gain enough knowledge to correct him/her when they make a mistake. I can't say it enough, knowledge is power. You learn by doing. The more your read the more you know. |

Anyone have an idea on the working principle of that one. It really got me thinking.
I think I will go for a research for that one. I posted a link to their website on page 40 of this thread. Unfortunately, there is no reference feature on this website to link a post to a prior page. Here it is again. Click on the link below. SELF-SATWebmaster/Administrator Seun, please look into upgrading your website so that we can reference and link posts better. |

@Baba_egun! That's what I'm talking about. This is exactly the kinds of setups that brings a big to my face too. You captured 3 birds on one Dish! Were the LNB brackets you used home made (Did you make them yourself)? Over here in North America, on a multiple LNB setup, the maximum "offcenter" spacing between LNBs is about 10° degrees and anything above that, the signal will suffer. Looking at your setup it seems that you are getting singals from 7.0°E, 22.0°W and 7.0°W. Facing the Dish in what order are the birds lined up? From the picture the LNBs seem to be lined-up vertically. It was a smart thing you did using the 4X1 switch. If you had dual output LNBs and additional 4X1 DiseqC switch you will have another cable running into another part of your house. What Brand of DiseqC Switch did you use? |

dvbguy: Currently my set up is on W3A 7 east. TP 12520H, 27500. I do get a lot of new releases - dvdrips as well as camrips(ie. avi and divx files) the downside is majority come in Fr or Rus language so i download the subtitles online to make it understandable. i guess a lot of the traffic on that bird orginates from our french speaking brothers. I stopped fishing for mp3's - i have too much now. and the folks on that sat are SMUT(Bleep) crazy - i delete way too much. i only fish for programs bigger than 300mb.
i have been trying other locations but i always revert back to W3a - it has the most active 'tcp threads'. i messed up my c-band lnbf so until i get a new one i am stuck on W3a. Lyngsat has the symbol rate as stated below with a "V" not H. FREQ=12520 V SR=27500-1/2 See Lyngsat http://www.lyngsat.com/ew3a.html |

this dvb card u wrote about are they available here in Niaja and if so how much
secondly, does one need a satelite dish for this fishing thing. dvbguy: To get connected to the internet through satellites you will need the following:
a) Computer with a PC-DVB PCI card or USB box installed. b) Dish pointed towards a satellite which contains data channels.
Now this same dvb Pc cards or boxes are use for satellite tv reception and so if you happen to have one for FTA purposes then with the correct software and provided your dish is pointed to a satellite with a data transponder then you can literally benefit from the data transmissions (leech ) at no extra cost. The answer to your question is contained in DVbguy's original post. I don't mean to sound harsh. Please, read the post well before asking questions. |

@DVbguy!!! That was an excellent write up, but don't fail to add that this is for testing purposes only as you do not subscribe or condone, encourage individuals from illegally intercepting satellite signals. That said, this should be a new area of testing for me. Enigma: @ Biggjoe
Welcome home; nice to have you back.
@ all
I also see the merit of having an entire forum for Naija/Africa FTA; in fact it would reduce the problem of newcomers asking for help on matters that had been addressed. How easy it is for Seun to set up, I don't know. On the other hand, what I do is to bear the limitation of a thread (as opposed to a full forum) in mind when newcomers ask for help (somewhat tediously) on a matter that had already been addressed. It is quite easy to do. Just as a moderator would move a thread from the wrong forum to it's rightful place. Believe you me, having an FTA forum will greatly reduce the frequency at which users ask the same question over and over again. It will also help users to post based on individual topics and will make searching for topics a snap. If FTA has it own forum, we can then have "Stickies" (FQA) for the beginners and veterans (experienced) users alike. On the long run Nairaland it is a win - win for Nairaland and FTA users. |

isomadtech: @all using patches and softcam keys are receiver specific therefore great care should be taken when using any of them and you must also have a trusted site to download them. @all i can see that some people are confused about the polarization of the signals from the satellite. there are two types of polarisation especially in c-band system. the first is the direct polarisation that is when you see the operator using vertical(V) or horizontal (H). the second one is circular polarisation, this uses left and right hand polarisation. The left is the same as Horizontal while the right is the vertical. this circular polarisation enables the operator to make use of more space on their payload(satellite). when you use a c-band lnbf without di-electric you will be able to receive channels that are on direct polarisation such satellites include Pas7/10 c-band. that is why toxnaija could get some stations he could not get before on this satellite and cannot receive on other satellites. when a di-electric is inserted you are limited on direct polarisation and you will receive on those with circular polarisation. in short, it is the di-electric plate that make tyhe wonder of the polarisation.
when you insert the di-electric in a wrong way, the ststions you are supposed to receive on the vertical will come out using horizontal and vice versa.
these are very important and basic elements of iunstallation. @Badaru i will like to meet you when you get to lagos.
@all toxnaija had a little problem with his ku- lnb and that is why he could not receive the stations on Nss7 ku. though the problem is a bit technical because he can still receive on W4. so you must watch out when you receive on some frequencies and not on others. unlike the c-band lnbf, ku band lnb has double oscillator i.e 9.75/10.6 and each of them has the frequencies allocated to them to receive. Just to add to the highlighted. R (Right) in the circular Sats is equal to V (Vertical) in the Linear Sat, and L (Left) in circular Sats is equal to H (Horizontal)in the Linear Sats. Therefore R=V and L=H. |

I think u are right. Many of us don't know the difference between Softcam Keys and Patches. I think Enigma, Enitan, Bodejohn show please throw more light on this. Questions like this should be answered
a.) Does latest patch open up some channels? Answer: I wouldn't know since I currently don't reside in Nigeria, but if loaded into the right receiver it should work.
b.) Do we still need Softcam Keys after patching. Answer: No, in almost all cases the patch will automatically pull in the right keys (Auto roll), but sometimes, you may have to load a softcam key into the receiver, if the changes to the broadcast stream do not significantly affect the patch's alogrithms. You may have to disable the Auto roll feature in your reciever for a Softcam key to work.
I think answering this questions would clarify a lot things.
Enigma, Enitan, Bodejohn please do justice. Gangsta101: Pitodenz,
u couldn't have said it better. i wish someone using the patch would let us know 1. if it works
Answer: Good to know, but always give a general idea.
2. what channels it opens Answer: If you really want your opened channels to last long, it is a bad idea to a anounce it here in the forum as the Providers (owners of the channels) will quickly lock the channels again. Remember, they have their technicians on the internet looking for ways to make their Broadcasts more secure.
3. how long it usually lasts before it goes off Answer: See Above. No one knows..
Mide
well, i can't past an image of the strong key menu but i could have sworn the keys i was inputting fit properly into the available spaces, but since it hasn't worked for me who am i to say any thing.

My take on giving away patches is this. Do to others as you'll like others to do unto you. Be safe and use your discretion when receiving and giving away patches. Don't refuse patches to newbies simply because they are new, as we were all newbies at some point. Don't sell paches because the coders gave it to the public for free. Due to my location in the Americas, I don't post regularly, but read as often as time allows me. Does that make me a newbie, even though I have been using FTA here in America for over 5 years? When i visit home, I may need a patch and some pointers on how to catch those Atlantic birds, and I hope no one says I'm a newbie and ignore my cry for help. That my 2 kobo!! |
