Hi guys, am thinking if migrating to Australia, i have an Msc degree in Telecommunications Engineering (from a UK UNI), and am wondering is if Australia would be a nice place to move to.

I would like to know if they are racists to blacks
if there are ample opportunities to work in
if the standard of living is comparable to the UK.

thanks guys
4 reasons why Australia (From gathered information) I think is better than UK (studied there for 18 months).

1. The minimum wage equivalence in Australia is higher
2. The UK/EU white collar job rule against Non-EU/EEA does not apply to Australia.
3. Equal opportunities regardless of your skin colour and if you are qualified, you get the job.
4. The weather is relatively better than UK.
5. Wide variety of flexible immigration rule compared to UK
6. Moral and business ethics might be better, not sure of this though
7. Large variety of opportunities, if you are an Engineer, and you decide to migrate based on that ground, you can get permanent residence from Nigeria. It is that bad or good, I dont even know which is suitable...Lols grin

In the 7 reasons lies some of your answers

Honestly, someone that has lived in both could correct me in areas where i am wrong.

Similarities.

1. Crime rate is low
2. Security is guaranteed
3. They are as diversified in terms of culture if not more than UK.

I think Australia is better than UK, a comparable country would be Canada.

Were they attached before or after submission?
Did you submit them separately to the south african mail? or there is a hidden tab for submission of other supporting documents?

Please can someone hint me on which category or where to attach other recommended documents for visa application in Immiaccount apart from GTE, Resume, Identity and OSHC?

I would appreciate a prompt response.

Can I try to match documents under closely related files e.g Attaching International Passport under Identity, and Certificates and transcripts under Resume?

I want to try to submit this application before Thursday evening (Friday Morning, Australia time).

Thanks in anticipation.

Thanks for the effort, I appreciate it. I got a call at about 17.19 and was told he is from British council, he said my TRF have been dispatched and I did not know when I told him to tear the parcel and give me just the TRF number, he laughed and said No, he can not do that. However, he doublechecked and saw that my TRF is 3 minutes away from my office. I reach the office in 30 seconds.
I have received my TRF. Trying to call back to say Thank you. But, the number dey enter Voicemail. Thanks to God, Someone would receive a suprise call, mail and message of a good news (Visa grant) before this week ends in Jesus name. This Test report form number na my own visa grant for now. Hi guys, I would like to share something.... and finally ask a question.

I received three Ph.D admissions between 18th August and 10th September and the condition of IELTS was attached, Normally, I should have gone ahead to write the IELTS, as I have become Australia bound at that point. But, what did I do? I waited for the scholarship to come. The scholarship clicked and now, the IELTS journey seem unending.

Registration - 14days or more before your test date, I waited for 24days and had to travel to Lagos from Benin to take the test on 25th November after applying on 1st November.
Test Result - 13 days after your test
Test Report Form - 10 days after seeing your results.

Morals: If I had written the IELTS on 24th September, I would have been 10 days away from my grant. Right now, I am yet to get my Test report form (or the number). Invariably, I am yet to apply for visa because I think say I drink panasharp! Please once you get admission in any of the university in Australia and english is a requirement, please enrol for the exam at the earliest date available.

I obtained my result on 8th December 2017 LRWS- 6.0, 7.0, 6.5, 7.0. It is sufficient for the requirement for Macquarie University. This above university strong oh, dem nor gree release CoE for the past two months, their matter tire me. I have tried to send my log-in details so that they can access my result, dem say Lailai, I don screenshot the result, Dem say Lailai. They went ahead to reply my one page letter with one line sentence, provide your TRF number.

Question: Who knows how I can get my test report form before 15th December 2017?
Is there a number I can call in the lagos centre to get my TRF or at least the TRF number? Please I already have 01-4603090 (their credit sucking line)
Or Perhaps Is there a time to call them to get an answer?

Make una join me knee down pray for this my matter. or better still give me better answer

Are you doing your NYSC?

Well, I would implore you to dust your BSc project, write an article from it. You could team up with another coursemate and write one or two more.
You would ask that this is not addressing your question, but believe me, doing the same thing and expecting a different is insanity like they say.
Imagine 2 or three scholarly publications, 2 conference attendance and a first class result in a pool of 100 fresh BSc graduates. You would sure be number one

BSc First Class - maximum mark for academic excellence
Publications - Proven research ability
Conference - Motivation for continuous personal development

In life sometimes, you need to slow down to gain more speed

You might also need to start thinking of picking an area of interest, stick to that line, write a good personal statement in that regard, and start reading related publications. At the end, you would be light years above your equals looking to get the same scholarship.

and it will end in praise.

The fact that my questions were not answered concerning skills assessment spurred me in to action. I was able to place myself appropriately under the correct skills assessment authority. My main aim of writing this is to help someone with similiar combination of degrees. But, I would appreciate corrections in case I am wrong.

BSc (Physics)- You should definitely be able to get positive assessment from VETASSES, because they were designated, most physical science courses including but not limited to Chemist, Geologist etc, Some life science courses like Botanist, Zoologist, Biochemist and so on and Vocational and Educational degrees including University lecturer and tutor. Co-incidentally, I could be positively assessed either based on bachelors degree in physics or work experience as a lecturer both by VETASSES, especially if I can demonstrate knowledge of the chosen area.

Note: You would need to get assessed both for qualification and work experience to get a positive assessment for university lecturer, teaching on its own does not contribute to positive assessment. At least one year of relevant post-qualification work experience is required and a research evidence by publication in peer-reviewed journals.

You can google VETASSES general occupation list and download the information sheet under the University lecturer column.

As for my MSc in Materials Science and Engineering, it only becomes relevant if it is specified as my area of interest and have possessed scholarly publications to be positively assessed as a University lecturer, well because, as found out, the skills assessment is based on first degree or bachelors qualification. Although, I could also use it to assess myself under EA, if I can demonstrate that I have indepth knowledge of this area as speciified in the career episodes for the CDR.

Running late for Shiloh, wifey calling, Should update the information tomorrow.

Remember this is for those with future similar questions and could make use of this simple post to clear their doubts, especially if they have similar doubts about their degree combination. E pain me sha say nobody even answer me, I must confess, but no wahala.

BSc (Physics) - Nigeria
MSc (Metallurgy and Materials Science) - Nigeria
MSc (Advanced Engineering Materials) -UK

Note: Both MScs are courses taking by Materials Scientist and Engineers all over the world.

My thoughts, since a lot of consideration are been given for highest qualification, even though my background is not engineering, do I stand a chance to be positively assessed by EA.

We might not have an idea of the ripple effect the charitable activities on here is producing in terms of influx into Canada through EE (though am too young to start using abbreviations...Lols). Against popular belief that Nigerians do not help each other, this thread and many others stand to dispute that fact. The world might not know, but I believe this is the reason why call Nigerians mosquitoes (found in every nook and cranny of the world). In a nutshell the gurus in the house, the one cent droppers and the newbies. Well, I was here just for the information. In as much as I feel, I qualify for the Express Entry after going through a 100 page and the last 20 pages ( I cannot kill myself), I have been too deep in the affairs of Australian student visa, but I believe, the information I have would equip me to make that decision when the need arises in the future. God bless everyone that has contributed here. This is a gold mine, you do not need any agent, if you can read all of this pages.

God bless Nigerians in diaspora, those almost leaving, and those that decide to leave.

WHAT TO DO?

How long did y’ll have to wait for a telex copy after your account was debited by form A ish?
Let me share my story:

The time taken for one to get its telex copy depends on the bank used. It ranges from filling the form, when they decide to act on it, when your account is debited and when the university eventually gets the money and gives confirmation. Some has said 4days, some 2 weeks. Mine was with Zenith Bank for two good weeks (25th October-9th November) and my account was not debited even though I constantly visited them. I withdrew my money on 9th November, asked a friend to pay for my OSHC in Australia on 10th November which is a Friday. By Monday evening (1 working day), it is already in the university account. My opinion, some banks have gotten bad integrity when it comes to Form A. If you have someone that can pay on your behalf in Australia. Out of the five ways of paying into university account (Online, BPay, Mastercard, bank draft or cheque and Telegraphic transfer), I think telegraphic transfer is the slowest due to the nigerian policy. My take, avoid telegraphic as much as you can. Remember someone in the Europe or US or any other country can pay for you through the online and card platform, remember they do not have the same awkward monetary policy. Just thought, I wasted valuable time on paying my fees and someone can learn from it. I stand to be corrected anyways. Cheers ALL

It would be a miracle if you can get the visa on or before January 15th so I suggest you don't get your hopes up. Most of us here have been waiting for 6 months yet and we never smell visa

HAP ID and the rest don't mean anything if you don't have the CoE code. I suggest you go see the manager of the zenith bank at the branch you did the transaction and let them check the status of your transactions. Don't just sit at home thinking they will do their job. I waited for over a month because somebody at the head quarters wasn't doing her job

The way I see it, you will have to be extremely lucky to get a visa by January because you haven't even applied for the visa yet.

I don't think police clearance is necessary. Sometimes they might request for it though so keep all documents handy. Thank me later. Just my own opinion!!!!
I am seriously hoping for a miracle to get my visa by 15th January, but I am putting my mind on July start already, by the way. As for the waiting game, God will give you the power to wait till your expectations are met.

I know the CoE is one of the most important document for visa. Just trying to be proactive enough to get me an inch closer to my miracle. I have withdrawn my money from Zenith Bank Account, and paid the OSHC through a friend in Sydney, they should get it by Monday afternoon. I did not want to bug my australian friends before, until this shitty bank left me with no choice.

I would just get the Police clearance since it does not cost much.

Thanks for your sincere comments and concern. Well appreciated

I presumed so Fobak.

Source of funding is the major issue in student visa application.

Your chances are high.
I understand they have increased their processing time.

It may be a close shave, but you hopefully will still meet up somehow .

If you miss a Jan 15th resumption what's the next option?

I am not being pessimistic but realistic.

Let's roll out your options.
Mine took 6 wks though.
And Feb resumption will make Jan n Dec a peak period again.

Offices may be closed as well as for documents verifications

However, a scholarship makes it quickkkkk. How quick I cannot tell.

Did I help?
I hope so.
Cheers.
Oh Yes, you have been of great assistance, I am really happy to discuss this with you.
Thanks so much for the tips and guidelines. The admission office has offered to accept their flaws of not communicating rightly and would write to seek a deferment approved for July 2018 start.

A friend of mine told me if I come in by the end of January, it is still not a problem for a 1st January commencement date. I would just wait and see how things unfold. In the meantime, I would just keep getting on top of the situation and be proactive to address the issues.

How is your program going. Hope it is ok, What Uni are you in?
TravelRe: General Australian Student Visa Enquiries Part 3 by fobak203(m): 3:47pm On Nov 03, 2017
akinke:
I understand you perfectly. I will probably do the same.
80%-85% is high though even though that what I am also aiming for at the moment.

You seem to work in a University.

You have a strong case. Verrrrrry strong!
Your case officer will have less headache.
But sha why did Macquarie need an IELTS to give you a COE if you had MSc in the UK.

Did you attempt presenting that as a case?

I only did English test for my visa because I had not lived in the UK for 5 years.

I skipped that during admission because I had spent 1 year in an English speaking country.

So is the English test for Candidature point which is much later in your programme or to even obtain a COE?
I work as a Lecturer in a university

I presented my case to them concerning English Language and they made me realize, I am only eligible for a waiver, if I have undergone a two years study in the UK, but I only had a year study.

The English language is required by Macquarie University to give CoE, I really do not know why, but I think universities are putting stringent measures to maintain their standard of entry requirements.

I can resume in July 2018, the scholarship and admission has given me that assurance of a later start. Funny enough, I am putting my mind in July. So if eventually, I make January, I would be happy.

So I figured that the Macquarie scholarship you have at hand AT THE MOMENT is for 2 years MRes?

Please confirm it's for two years not one.

What's your field to know your PR pathway, so we don't put all the energy on PhD.

And almost finally, once you have a high grade for MRes if you dont want Macquarie afterwards you can always apply to any school. So it's good for you.

However, keep in mind that you will have to compete for the PhD scholarship after MRes in Macquarie since you don't have an automatic scholarship yet for PhD.

It's all good.
Oh Yeah sorry, you know I am trying to avoid writing an epistle, but please feel free to ask for further enquiries.

I already gathered 32 credit points (RPL) from my two masters (UNIBEN and Manchester). So I am expected to start from Year 2 MRes. I am into Materials Science and Engineering, my two MSc was in these field. Even the MRes is in the area of Materials Engineering.

Yes, you are so on point, about the whole situation, but keeping fingers crossed. It's all good like you concluded. Thanks akinke.

Congrats. Pls share your secret on securing PhD admissions
This is a very long story, but I am trying to still stay on here and get conversant with my old friend (nairaland) while summarizing the secrets. I took motivation from (loosing the PRESSID Ph.D Scholarship, a story for another day). It is majorly due to focus on Australia (I was not trying US, Canada and UK all at the same time), since the requirement within schools are not that different in the same country. Secondly, supplying all of the authentic documents of your claim and in a timely manner. I also consider myself as a good convincer during my Skype Interview with potential Ph.D supervisors. This may be due to my exposure to studies in the UK, anyways. Finally, my research profile has gone up to 700% between 2015 and 2017. And I believe, thats why I am attracting research excellence scholarships in Australia. There are more to this, but can not be exhaustive in this text. I was so prepared document-wise that, I can complete an application process as rigorous as it looks in 3 hours of sitting down. uploading all of the required documents and clicking the final submit botton before standing up. The reason why some of us have not really gotten admissions (Masters/Ph.D) is because we have more imcomplete application process around the world than the papers in front of a Case officer at every given point.

Summary, research schools, narrow down to your course, speak with supervisors closely related to your previous study, convince them that you understand the terminologies in that chosen field, provide additional documents that can support your claims, Keep developing your self and send updated CV in the midst of the application process, correspond with them on present research focus and you are on a sure way to getting a Ph.D admission. #cleansweat. Hope this helps.

Why are you taking Macquarie out of all your options since the pathway is almost a MRes if I am correct?
Thanks for your concern akinke, but I am presently not conversant with the replies and PM on nairaland. Maybe we can talk through a more straightforward means, I was trying to answer your query all at once, but I have long been detached from nairaland. This is my e-mail (and for GOO3 too) folarin.bakare@uniben.edu, if you dont mind talking on there.

If you do MRes wouldn't that be 4 yrs? Wouldn't you have hurdles to cross to enter the full PhD.

Yes, I have explained that in the first reply I sent to you, but for the sake of repetition, I only have funding for the MRes at the moment but once I can get the 75% or higher, I would slide easily into the Ph.D scholarship, as I already have a bundle offer letter. Hope it is clear.

Why not DEAKIN of 3 years.

Well, DEAKIN is a two-destination programme (Australia-India), and might affect the movement of my family. Even though, my supervisor has gone as far as editing my CV for me to reflect all of my abilities in order to get the scholarship and already saying he is looking forward to working with you subconsciously, they are in the process of finalizing the terms and conditions of the offer as there is need to correspond with the faulty staffs at IIT Madras (The affiliate university in India).

I know you are eager to get in but let's do a due diligence on your choice.

I would be glad to do this with you. Cheers

Top, you defer your admission. PhD must be well thought biko.

I defered for 2 yrs, I am not praying so for you ooo.

But let's get enough info.
Why Macquarie of the 3 of them?
In a nutshell, I am considering Macquarie at the moment, because It is my bird at hand and there is a possibility of extending my masters work from the UK in the MRes, which makes me a semi-authority and would land safely in a region of 80-85% required for the Ph.D scholarship afterwards. You are right, I am really eager to get in. But Deakin on the other hand, is just a good smell of nigerian Jollof not yet served. While Wollongong are yet to get back to me on scholarship matters, would do by mid December

Cheers

Ooooh. I have to type again.

Could you please let me know your funding state... do you have a scholarship? Full or part or whatever?

Oh Yeah, my funding is complete, apart from OSHC and Traveling to Australia, It is called Macquarie University Research Excellence Scholarship, Having obtained a 75 or higher in the Masters by Research, I am qualified for the next three years Ph.D scholarship of the university (IMQRES).

Let's see what we can expect.

I want to appreciate every single member both home and abroad that has contributed to proferring solutions to the challenges of Nigerians trying to secure Australian student visa. If there is anything I have learnt from this thread, it is that, no mattter how big your problem might seem, there is someone that can suggest possible solutions to the problem more than any agent.

Based on the foregoing, I have two serious concerns, here it goes:

I have secured three Ph.D admissions (University of Wollongong, Macquarie University and Deakin University) in September. Out of the three, Macquarie offered me IMQRES-MREs as a research training pathway for the Ph.D program on 24th October 2017 for a 1st January 2018 commencement date. However, they made an error by signifying that there was no condition to be satisfied in the offer letter as against the pointer mail on candidature that I need to write IELTS. Because of my state of unrest, I contacted them after a week and apology was rendered. I quickly booked for an IELTS exam with the earliest been 25th November, 2017. Remember I would have to wait for 13days to get my result, so that means I would have to get my CoE approximately on December 8, 2017 as the earliest. Although, I contacted them and I was told I could still resume by January 15th. A sigh of relief. But.....

My Questions:
How possible is it to meet up with the January 15th start date given that I need to do medicals, apply for visa and endure the waiting game?

Is there any advice on any line of actions that I can take apart from the underlisted ones?
Based on the second question, I have already generated my HAP ID for medicals, filled my acceptance offer letter, lodged for OSHC to be provided by my university since 25th October 2017 ( though no reply from zenith bank yet), create an immiaccount and got stucked when I was asked to add CoE code. I believe I can get more suggestions on things to do before lodging my visa applications.

Does any one know how long it will take to get visa after looking at my total story? given all this waiting since July, I read (wished I did not read them though, but thats reality)?

Do I need to get Police clearance certificate at CID, ALAGBON, IKOYI.

Thanks ALL in anticipation of a response from you guys. I would not pledge allegiancem, but I really love this thread!

I would talk about the other concern in another post later. And I am ready to answer questions on how I got three Ph.D admissions within Australia if there is any.

Hello justwise and other experienced nairalanders

My sister has just been refused visa to Canada, the reason being because of low travel history, My Uncle would have been financially capable of footing her bills while in canada. We had resolved to bolster her travel history by letting her come to the UK to join me, who is currently on a Tier 4 visa to the UK which expires in january 2017. I also have a wife and kid who are still in Nigeria but will join me before my current visa expires when i start my Ph.D program in the same January. Me and my uncle are kind of financially okay to sponsor her. I have three things to ask
I am a Government sponsored student for both MSc and Ph.D but i guess my letter only covers for just me.

1. What is the most recent documentations I need to make this possible for my sister and what to watch out for to avoid refusal based on the review on 6 april.
2. What is the best category of visa to use.
3. For my wife and kid, Can you refer to me a post where someone has been successful for Tier 4 dependency visa and what was done to obtain visa, I have been without both of them and I can do with a refusal of visa for them. Please assist
