Properties / Re: Lagos Builders To Obtain Permits For Renovations Of All Existing Structures by Focusmind: 12:02pm On May 18
Make una relax!!!! The enforcement won't be that strong on ordinary people's properties. They will be targeting corporate buildings, commercial and highbrow areas renovations. Not one low budget renovation in mushin or ikorodu.

Interesting. I look forward to see how this generation of japa folks would do theirs.

Some of the current ones are still in touch with home. Remember that some travelled abroad purely on economic reasons and not because they didnt like home. The problem would be their children. Some of their children may never knew their homes, grandparents and cousins in their lifetime. I have some that have taken the difficult path of bringing their children to school in Nigeria just to get to know Nigeria and their home town. One will be sending his 13 year old son to stay in my house as he would starting secondary school in September.

I don't understand why some of these older Africans don't like going home, even after working for years abroad. We have one that has been in UK for 47 years and has not set foot to Nigeria and our village. His brother recently died and he never bordered. My mum said when his parents died in the 90s, he didn't come. His only brother just died last month, and was recently buried, he didn't come home
Business / Re: Naira Depreciates To N1,540/$ In Parallel Market by Focusmind: 10:14am On May 17
What is happening, bikonu? Just as we thought that the naira was having the best run in weeks.

Transacting in foreign currency now is becoming more extremely expensive.

Imagine those that bought dollars at N1100/$ early last month. They would have cleaned out big time at this current rate.

This is the reason why people would continue to trade in currency. It seems more profitable than running a business

Someone that bought $20000 at N1100/$ makes a profit of N8.8m just within six weeks if he decides to sell the dollar at N1540/$.

I hope there is no government hand in the manipulation of this currency rate.
Politics / Re: Donald Duke, Peter Obi & Barth Nnaji At Dele Momodu Leadership Lecture by Focusmind: 9:53am On May 17
Barth Nnaji: One of my respected mentors in Cheveron told me that Professor Barth Nnaji was his former lecturer at the University in US. Very astute and well respected during his University days. That the man was always researching and producing papers in learned journals, working with professors across the globe in energy and electricity. I like professors that are committed to academics, not handouts and low quality book sellers.

What do they want from him? He is an old man for God's sake. The kidnapers has mate their Waterloo. I pray for his quick release.

Ransom, of course. Do you know how much would be paid to free that high- calibre priest? It is like kidnapping Father Mbaka or Bishop Oyedapo.
Career / Re: Nigerian Soldiers Weep After Comrade Killed In Attack by Focusmind: 9:02pm On May 16
I don't know why our soldiers always look like a ragtag army. They should always be well kitted like army set in battle. They usually don't look glorious and intimidating in war zone like sambisa. Please take a look at other armies around the globe, especially in Europe, North America, Asia and Middle East. You will see a soldier in full glory with admiration. Not polo - wearing, slippers or canvass - wearing soldiers with ancient AK47

Look at how the newly constructed Niger avenue looks like where they rear pigs

Pls onithsha pple can do better!

Decency and decorum seems to be scarce words in Onitsha.

Same thing we see in some parks in Lagos, where touts and mad people have taken over most of the parks and green areas

See the modern oshodi bus terminal that Ambode built, the place is now fully habited by Agberos and people selling one thing or the other. Nigerians are far from keeping public places neat, tidy and maintained.

Politics / Re: Onitsha River Bank Modernization By Gov Soludo (video) by Focusmind: 12:02pm On May 16
These are things that should have been done since if previous governors of the States had the foresight.

Onitsha has the qualities to be a top and modern city because of the structures and how industrious the people are. But sadly, previous governments have not been alive to their responsibilities to modernize that city. It is a marvel and beautiful coming into the city at night from Asaba end of the head-bridge. The skyline of the city would be obvious, showing the alignment of multitudes of high rise buildings that gives the city a look of a thriving, prosperous and bustling city.

Kudos to Soludo! He should build a boardwalk around that Marine and make that place a recreational center which the city lacks. All the internal road works of the city needs to be rebuilt and put an efficient and working street lights.

Business / Re: World Bank Blacklists 58 Nigerian Companies, Individuals Over Corruption by Focusmind: 12:00pm On May 16
Nigeria and her people. Companies and individuals will collect mobilization and payments to deliver on a job, but will abscond after collecting money. These are the main issue. Despite the vetting and disclosures that organizations like World Bank and international agencies demands from contractors before awarding contracts to them, lots of contractors would go and forge those documents to get jobs, which they will later abandon after collecting money.
Politics / Re: Pollution From Rice Mill Force Residents Of Anambra Community Out Of Their Homes by Focusmind: 10:46am On May 16
Love800:
What is rice paddy?

The original rice after harvesting from the rice field, except if there is any other contrary explanation.

Rice paddy is the harvested rice before it becomes milled, refined and bagged.
Politics / Re: Pollution From Rice Mill Force Residents Of Anambra Community Out Of Their Homes by Focusmind: 6:49am On May 16
That's why having industrial zone is important. Nnobi is a busy and highly populated village in Anambra state. I wonder why such a gigantic rice mill should be sited in that place. The community is not known as rice farmers, which means, the company would be sourcing for their rice paddy from the North or the rice producing communities in Anambra.

Yes naa. Did Buhari participate in any debate? Trump always looks for an opportunity to attack Biden and this debate would provide him with that opportunity to call him "sleepy Joe".
Crime / Re: UK Based Nigerian Man Given Life Sentence For Beating Wife To Death by Focusmind: 5:18pm On May 15
All these short tempered men. If you feel she is cheating and not submissive, just leave her and return to Nigeria and be collecting allowance from her. You stay in Nigeria and enjoy her money. When she's done, she would send for you to come and visit her at her own expense. When she wants to come to Nigeria to see you, she would still come at her own expense. But keep pampering her and make her feel important why you eat her money. E no too hard. I know lots of men in Nigeria doing nothing, but cruising on the money their wives are making abroad and sending home for house projects or other investments.

The man respected himself and avoided debates like plaque. Biden is exposing himself to Trump, who could use the opportunity to embarrass him and his government.

I blame the referee. Some smart ref always read matches and knows when to stop the fight. First and second round should have given the referee clue on where the match was heading, especially if one of the opponent has got an upper hand.

That's is it. There is a leverage she has over Bill and she is using it well. Epstein case or other may not be far from it.

Yeah
I agree with you 100%
Am a core obidient but I think he should have been vice to Atiku after which he would have taken over in 2031

I am glad that you understood. Most of us rooted for Obi but deep down me, I knew it would be an impossible task. Atiku was willing to go against the PDP governor's forum insistence that one of theirs should produce the running mate. Atiku insisted on Obi but the PDP Governors insisted on one of them. Atiku would have been the perfect channel to pave way for Obi and SE to get the presidency in 2031 but the usual attitude of "Nzogbu - Nzogbu" way of thinking got the better of Obi and most SE voters. Nigeria's presidency is unsuited for a new comer. You must be "chosen " after you have paid your dues. That's what it is.
Politics / Re: Atiku And Peter Obi Meet (Photos) by Focusmind: 6:37pm On May 13
Obi made the worst political mistake of his life by running a solo race in 2023. This is Nigeria. You have to pay your dues properly before seeking the highest office in the land. He should have cooperated with Atiku in 2023. But no, some of his ardent supporters thought he could win without the political class. People need to study and understand the dynamics of Nigeria's political power system, especially, the presidency.

Worse in Houston, especially, among my town union. Poknosing into people's private affairs, who is cheating and who is footing the bills. The cheating gossip is just too much, swirling like wild fires. Every town union meeting would be an opportunity to settle scores, with some going for physical fight with anyone that they believed must have gossiped against them. Then, those not wanting people to marry because of same gossip. It is the women sha. Me and my wife stayed in Houston for 4 months on a visit within our town's union circle but the gossips, back biting and jealousy we saw were much. But the good thing is that lots of people got their breakthroughs through their association with town union. You get certain privileged information, access to jobs and connections through the union. Just take the positives and throw away the dirts of association with your kith and kin abroad.

Gerrard59:

This is a better summary. But I am inclined to say that those who study math-based courses are better positioned to get good jobs faster than those who don't. Anyone can develop those attributes you mentioned with relative ease, but not so for learning mathematical skills after tertiary education.

You are correct. Those that studied courses with high math's and quantitative contents tends to perform better with job hunting because of their numeracy skills. You cant take away maths skill in today's job hunting. My former boss always made it clear to the HR that he needed people that are "very comfortable with numbers". That's the kind of people he likes hiring.

There is nothing like "high" paying courses in Nigeria. Read your respective courses and graduate with good 2.1 or first class. Then, proceed and develop your data skills, quantitative and mathematical skills, writing skills, job search skills, networking skills and street smart skills, You may not be far from achieving modest success in your job hunting.
