CrimeRe: IMN: El-zakyazky Group Attempting To Overthrow Buhari Govt - Group Cries Out by foreshore(m): 12:21pm On Jul 10, 2019
owukpa:
The National Democratic Forum, NDF, has in strong terms condemned the invasion of the National Assembly by members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN, otherwise known as Shiites, on Tuesday.

NDF described the attack on security agencies as an attempt to overthrow an arm of government.

DAILY POST recalls that some protesting Shiites members agitating against the continuous incarceration of their leader, Sheik El-Zakyazky on Tuesday clashed with the security agencies, resulting in the death of some persons and burning of vehicles.

The protesters, who were in large numbers, were heading towards the National Assembly at about 1.15pm but were intercepted by the military personnel already waiting at the gate.

Reacting to the development, NDF wondered why the authorities have continued to threat the issue of the IMN with kids’ gloves.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, shortly after the bloody clash, Dr Abdulakdir Bolaji, Secretary General of NDF, called on the authorities to immediately expel all known IMN members from Abuja.

The group also demanded that all those arrested in connection with the attack on National Assembly must be arraigned for treason and attempt to overthrow the government.

The statement reads in full:

Tuesday July 9, 2019 was the day members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) terrorised the very symbol of our democracy by launching coordinated attacks on the National Assembly. At the end of the attacks, the IMN members had snatched weapons from the security personnel on duty with which they shot two policemen and an officer of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). At least three cars were destroyed while a security post was also vandalized. We are in the process of verifying if anyone died in the attack as reported by some media organizations.

For the duration of the attacks, Nigerians in the National Assembly Complex were terrorised on a scale comparable to last year’s terror attack on the Inter-Continental Hotel in Kabul, Afghanistan; the attacks carried out by Lashkar-e-Taiba, an Islamic terrorist organisation based in Pakistan on Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, Mumbai –India in 2018; and the terror attack of two months ago on Pearl Continental Hotel, Gwadar – Pakistan. The attacks on the National Assembly bear a frightening similarity to these other coordinated terror attacks because of the sheer helplessness that the occupants of these buildings experience for the duration of the barbarity.

Even at height of their madness, Boko Haram never sent their terrorists to attack the National Assembly because they know the implication of such. They are aware that attacking the National Assembly is to add the crime of treason to whatever other criminality they may already be guilty of. The rap sheet for IMN is therefore growing longer with illegal arms possession, operating as an outlawed group, acquiring military training in violation of the constitution, murder, attempted murder and now treason with attempt to overthrow Nigeria’s democracy.

Permit us to mention that we know the Nigerian state is not helpless as some people will think. Without prejudice to whatever investigations will unveil, we believe that the snatching of the weapons from the security operatives was possible because of the directive that security agencies should exercise restraint in the face of IMN extremists. This approach to dealing with the threat posed by the outlawed group has proven to be a wrong call, one that must be immediately jettisoned by the state.

The National Assembly is the highest symbol of Nigeria’s democracy. Whilst IMN was once seen as the problem of Zaria, Kaduna State and Abuja, the Federal Capital territory, by attacking the National Assembly, they have made themselves the problem of all Nigerians because each and every one of us has a representative in the national parliament. The attack is therefore an attack on every state of Nigeria, on every citizen and on everything we stand for as a nation. The action of the IMN is therefore a visitation of terror on the Nigerian state. It is an attack targeted at overthrowing the government by destroying the strongest institution in our democracy.

We will like to point out that we had joined other Nigerians in the past to express reservations about the presence of IMN extremists in the nation’s capital. They hide under the pretext that they are demanding for the release of their leader, Mr Ibraheem ElZakyzaky, who is standing trial before a competent court. Unfortunately, possibly because of the fear of international backlash, the government allowed these extremists to continue to infiltrate the nation’s capital without evicting them.

The concerns we had expressed about the group in the past were because of their violent activities and attacks against state institutions and unwarranted clashes with security operatives. We must not lose sight of the fact that in their bid to acquire more weapons, the IMN fighters attempted to hijack a military convoy that was conveying weapons along the Zuba-Kaduna Expressway, a development that they used to bring the City under siege.

The situation is dire to the point where even residents of Abuja had expressed concerns about the activities of this outlawed group owing to the threat they pose to other Nigerians. This threat is in addition to their menacing protests that they use to deny other people unhindered use of the roads and causing traffic congestion.
Our demand to the Federal Government, in the light of Tuesday’s desecration, is unequivocal. A strong and clear message must be sent to the Islamic Movement in Nigeria in a way that it reverberates even with their sponsor, the Islamic Republic of Iran, which has recently been issuing propaganda to support these terrorists. The message must make it known that no theocratic entity will be allowed to overthrow Nigeria’s democracy, directly or through proxies like IMN.

We, therefore, demand that the Federal Government immediately expel all known IMN members from Abuja while law enforcement agencies are mandated to dismantle all known cells of the group, in the nation’s capital and across the country.

A further demand is that all those arrested in the attack on National Assembly must be arraigned for treason and attempt to overthrow the government. In this case, the government must not cave in to the blackmail of pro-IMN countries and organizations that will wrongly accuse it of rights abuse.

The government must also rise up to the occasion and formally designate IMN as a terrorist group in line with existing anti-terrorism legislation. Had the Federal Government towed the line of the Kaduna state government that outlawed this terrorist group perhaps the country would have been saved from the harrowing experience of having the parliament come under attack.

It is our earnest hope that the government will not allow things to degenerate to the point where Nigerians are compelled to resort to self-help against IMN extremists as the situation is fast approaching the one of “kill or be killed”. Nigerians will not watch docilely while terrorists overrun their capital and attack their representatives. We expect to see actions on the part of the government in the days ahead as a way of reassuring us that terrorists will not be allowed to truncate our democracy.

PoliticsRe: Shi’ite Protest: IGP Places Aigs, Cps In FCT, Neighbouring States On Red Alert by foreshore(m): 12:19pm On Jul 10, 2019
Flashyoil1:
The INSPECTOR-GENERAL Mohammed Adamu yesterday placed Assistant Inspector General of Police and Commissioners of Police in the Federal Capital Terriotry (FCT) and neighbouring states on red alert.

IG Adamu said the action became imperative following the violent protest by Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzakky sympathisers at the National Assembly in Abuja.

The protest, which left nine police personnel injured, also led to the destruction of vehicles and other valuable items.

The IG directive was contained in a statement by the Force spokesman, Frank Mba, a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).

It reads: “The Commissioners of Police and their supervisory Assistant Inspectors General of Police in states contiguous to the FCT were also placed on the alert to ensure maximum security in their respective Areas of responsibility (AOR) to avert any possible breach of public safety and security.

“The IG also directed the AIG in charge of Police Medical Department to ensure that proper and prompt medical attention is given to the injured officers and wished the victims quick recovery.

“The police chief while noting that the Force is not against citizens expressing their grouse against the State, stressed that such ventilations must be done through legitimate and acceptable processes and not by taking the laws into their own hands.

“He warned citizens not to test the collective will of the People and the State by engaging in lawless acts likely to cause the breach of the peace.”

The IG also ordered a speedy and diligent investigation into the incident as well as prompt prosecution of all the persons arrested and now in Police custody in connection with the incident.

Adamu reiterated his displeasure with the unwarranted and unjustifiable attack on, and injury to nine police officers by members of the protesters and commended the restraint, maturity and professionalism displayed by Police personnel in containing the protest.

The FCT Police Command confirmed that nine of its personnel were injured during the invasion of the National Assembly by members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN).

Two of the policemen were shot. Seven others were injured. The police arrested 40 members of the group.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Bala Ciroma, in a statement in Abuja, said the protesters started in a peaceful procession but later became violent and attempted to force their way into the National Assembly.

Ciroma said his men acted proactively and professionally by using minimum force to disperse the protesters.

On the casualty figure, Ciroma said: “Members of the sect during the violent protest shot two police personnel in the leg while clubs and stones were used to inflict injuries on seven other policemen.”

He added that the injured policemen had been taken to an undisclosed hospital.

Recognising the right of citizens to peaceful procession, the Command stated that it would not tolerate an attempt by any individual or group of persons to cause the breakdown of law and order.

PoliticsRe: How Drones Helped Us Raid 18 Kidnappers’ Camps –army by foreshore(m): 6:15pm On Jul 09, 2019
Wisdom58:
The 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Akure says it has raided no fewer than 18 camps of suspected kidnappers in the last one month with the help of its newly acquired drones.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the brigade launched two drones on June 21 to fight kidnappings and other related crimes in Ondo and Ekiti states.

Brig.-Gen. Zakari Abubakar, the Commander of the brigade, made this known while speaking with NAN on Tuesday in Akure.

He said: “On my assumption of office on March 28, 2019, I discovered that cases of kidnapping, robbery, herders and farmers clashes and others were on the increase in Ondo and Ekiti States.

“I discovered that one of the advantages the criminals have is the thick forests that abound in the two states.

“We first established an anti-kidnapp squad which recorded a lot of success. But anytime the kidnappers took their victims to the thick forests, it became very difficult to comb the area.

“There is no way we can perform effectively without the help of technology because the two states have thick forests which the criminals are using as their hideouts.

“So, the drones have helped us tremendously in our operations within one month that we launched it in the two states.

“As at now, 18 different camps had been raided and the arrested suspects had been handed over to the police and other security agencies for proper investigation and prosecution.”

Abubakar, who attributed the success of the operations to the support of the duo of Lt.- Gen. Tukur Burata, the Chief of Army Staff, and Maj.-Gen. Okwudili Azinta, GOC, 2 Division, Ibadan, said the army was ready to make Ondo and Ekiti free of crimes.

The brigade commander also said that the cooperation of other security agencies had aided the arrest of kidnappers.

“We know that there is no where they can hide with the technology we are using now and  their days are numbered.

“The only thing that we need is the cooperation of the media and politicians to support the army’s vision and goals,” he said.

IssaGist:
The Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, on Monday paraded one Chukwuemeka Eze for allegedly killing an ex-member of the National Youth Service Corps in Imo State, Lillian Mgbanwu, after raping her.

Mba also paraded two siblings, Chinaza Nwogu and Emeka Ejike, for conniving with one Emmanuel Sunday to kidnap their 88-year-old father, Louis Njoku.

The police spokesperson said the arrest of the alleged killer of the ex-corps member was part of the success of the Operation Puff Adder launched nationwide recently by the Inspector-General of Police.

Mba said, “I am at the Imo State Police Command at the instance of the Inspector-General of Police. Here is Chukwuemeka Eze, who murdered an ex-corps member, Lillian Mgbanwu, after raping her.

“On July 7, 2019, Eze, who pretended to be insane, took an android phone to the shop of one Ahamefule Onyeka for charging. Onyeka reported the development to the police in Oru West. This suspect was arrested and he confessed that he took away the ex-corps member’s phone after raping her to death.

“This development is pathetic and worrisome, but we promise that justice will be served.

“Another pathetic development is that of two siblings, who teamed up with the would-be husband of one of them to abduct their 88-year-old father.

“Chinaza, who wants to get married to Emmanuel, teamed up with her brother, Emeka, to kidnap their father, who is an octogenarian, in what I call a triangular crime arrangement.”

According to Mba, Emmanuel wanted to use the money he would realise from the abduction of his would-be father-in-law to pay the daughter’s bride price.

Mba added, “The suspects were arrested by the operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the command on June 29 following a tip-off in connection with the kidnap of the victim.

“The suspects, who specialise in kidnapping people for ransom in Mbaise and its environs, have made useful statements to the police and confessed to the crime. They also narrated the various roles they played in the kidnap operation.”

GistMore1:
Fifty African American tourists, who are in Benin City, Edo State capital, to trace their origin, have visited the Palace of the Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II.

While welcoming the tourists, Oba Ewuare II commended them for making effort to trace their roots back home and thanked the ancestors for protecting African Americans in their sojourn.

The revered monarch tasked the tourists to support efforts against modern human slavery and join the fight against human trafficking in the state.

The Oba of Benin added that the African Americans have done well in their choice to come down to Benin and deserve to be applauded, noting that the Palace is proud of them.

Oba Ewuare II added that his Foundation was established to drive the integration of victims of illegal migration, who have returned back to Nigeria.

The Edo State Commissioner for Arts, Culture, Tourism and Diaspora Affairs, Hon. Osaze Osemwegie-Ero who accompanied the tourists on the courtesy visit to the Palace, expressed appreciation to the Benin Monarch for supporting the drive to grow the tourism sector of the state.

Mrs. Betty Arnold, who led the tourists, said they are honoured to be at the Palace, noting that some of them were visiting Africa for the first time.

The tourists were later hosted to a dinner at Edo State Government House, where the Commissioner for Arts, Culture, Tourism and Diaspora Affairs, assured that the state was safe for investors.

4/7/19. From The Tribunal Today.

Hearing has commenced...

Prof. Ben Nwabueze (SAN), 88 is representing the petitioners today.

He requested that he may be permitted to sit in his wheelchair to address the court, and the court graciously granted him and permitted the erudite legal luminary to address the court sitting down.

A very emotional legal epic moment.

This is the right time to be in court.
