EzegeNG: The Former General Manager, Edo State Waste Management Board, Prince Esmond Akonofua, wife and his baby narrowly escaped death, recently after gunmen suspected to be herdsmen, allegedly opened fire on his vehicle, along Benin-Ore Road.
atmy1: SWITZERLAND, JULY 29 – A Patrol Van belonging to the Lekki Concession Company has reportedly knocked down a nursing mother, killing her baby in the process.
An eyewitness told Today’s Echo that the woman, named Mrs Adaobi Uligwe was on July 9, 2019, at about 5 PM knocked down by a Patrol Van belonging to Lekki Concession Company, while trying to arrest a Danfo bus at Elf bus stop in Lekki. She was at the bus stop waiting to board a bus going to her destination after the close of work when the unfortunate incident happened.
“Immediately she was knocked down, the baby strapped on her back flew out and landed her head on the stone, instantly her skull broken and her brain spilled on the road. The mother sustained deep injury but survived while the baby died instantly,” the eyewitness said.
Today’s Echo gathers that the Lekki Concession Company Patrol Van escaped from the scene, while the Mobile Police Man, who is attached to them was unlucky to escape with them, as he was being held by others who were at the bus stop when the reckless act happened.
The DPO of Maroko Police Station who was invited to arrest the situation, later released the Mobile Police officer who was the only suspect arrested and thereafter charged one Oluwafemi Ogidan, who ensure the Mopol didn’t escape to Court for assault and stealing of the gun belonging to the Mopol. And by implication abandoned the family who lost their only child.
Meanwhile Today’s Echo learnt that the baby was given birth to on July 10, 2018 and she is the only child of the parents who waited for 10 years before they gave birth to her. She died a day to her first year birthday. As we speak the family is in total disarray, with no hope of having a child again.
This tragedy has attracted attention to reckless driving on Lagos roads and the alarming rate of accidents along the Lekki-Epe express way. Both the family of the victims and concerned persons are seeking for justice.
The Lekki Concession should be made to pay huge damages for providing the platform, which masterminded the brutal and reckless killing of this innocent baby. The DPO of Maroko Police Station should also be investigated over his role in this issue, for shielding the Lekki Concession Company.

CastedAyo: Former Senator Shehu Sani has urged the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, and other prominent Islamic leaders to ensure the release of the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Ibrahim El-Zakzaky and his wife.
Sani told journalists on Sunday that the proscription of the group would worsen the crisis, Igbere TV reports.
He said: “The solutions to IMN problem, in my personal opinion, are four. The first is that the Sultan of Sokoto and other religious leaders should provide guarantee to the Federal Government on which the leader of the IMN would be released to them. Secondly, the IMN should stop all forms of protest, whether peaceful or violent.
“The third aspect of it: the government should move towards addressing the problems of their members who were killed and their homes that were destroyed, in compliance with the previous court orders.
“The fourth aspect of it is that the movement should stop its alleged relationship with nations outside of Nigeria that pose security threats on our country. If they are a movement, they should be a movement; as the name implies, a Nigerian movement to pursue their ideas, their beliefs and whatever they preach.”
The former lawmaker said everything must be done to avoid a situation where the movement would suddenly disappear from the radar to spring surprises, Igbere TV reports.

cokerlino: Sokoto – Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State, says states, where Fulani are not indigenes will not be required to implement the RUGA settlement initiative.
Ganduje made the clarification shortly after attending the wedding ceremony of the son of Sen. Kabiru Gaya, Ibrahim Khalil in Sokoto on Saturday. The governor told newsmen that the RUGA settlement initiative was for states who could cater for the Fulanis, and was targeted at making herdsmanship a socio-economic investment, not a socio-cultural issue. “So States where indigenes are not Fulani cannot be asked to implement RUGA, as such it is for states that can cater for the Fulanis and wish to improve their herdsmanship. “That is why we are developing RUGA in Kano state, so that Fulani people can be in one place and enjoy all the social services like other people of the state. “The type of herdsmanship the Fulanis are doing now will be improved, so that they can produce more cows, more milk and ensure more economic prosperity to themselves,” Ganduje said.
The governor, however, said the best way to improve the living standard of Fulani people was by banning their seasonal migration to the central and southern parts of Nigeria. “No better way to improve their lives if you don’t prevent their migration from the north to the central and southern parts of Nigeria.
“Fulani migration should be banned otherwise they would continue to suffer and the security challenges in the country would continue to exist,” he added.

ogbiwa: Arsenal have reached an agreement with French club Lille to sign Ivory Coast winger Nicolas Pepe in a deal worth 80m euros (£72m).
The Gunners will pay for the 24-year-old via a series of instalments that suit their restricted budget for this summer.
An agreement between Arsenal and Pepe's representatives still needs to be finalised.
But the transfer is expected to be completed in the next 24 to 48 hours.
Italian side Napoli also met Lille's asking price, but their proposal was rejected by the player's camp.
Pepe tends to operate on the right wing and cut in on to his left foot, but can also be used as a striker in a 4-4-2 formation.
He scored 23 goals for Lille last season and satisfies Arsenal's need for a wide player with pace and high technical ability.
Arsenal offered £40m for Crystal Palace's Ivory Coast winger Wilfried Zaha earlier this month, but their Premier League rivals value the player at about £80m.

akelicious: National President of Miyetti Allah Kautel Hore organisation, Alhaji Abdullahi Bodejo has said that Afenifere, the apex Yoruba socio-cultural group has no right to order herdsmen out of South West region of the country.
He urged all Fulani herders to stay anywhere they want in Nigeria and carry out their legitimate businesses, saying that Nigeria belongs to all. The Miyetti Allah leader made the statement in reaction to the order by Afenifere for Fulani herders to leave the South West part of the country in view of the several cases of kidnapping and killings linked to some of them.
Bodejo berated Afenifere for getting involved in politics, saying the organisation should transform into a political party. He called on the Federal government to monitor the activities of Afenifere, cautioning that the socio-cultural group lacks the authority to drive Fulani herders out of Yoruba land.
His words: “Afenifere should know that they cannot chase away the Fulani from their place. Let them not try it because the Fulani have a right to stay anywhere they want. Let them allow peace to reign.
“The Federal Government should monitor the activities of Afenifere because Nigeria is one nation. The Inspector General of Police should protect the Fulani anywhere they are; it is their right to stay anywhere in Nigeria to carry out their legitimate businesses.
“It is better for Afenifere to change to a political party because they are playing politics. They are telling the Fulani to go back to the North because they are a minority tribe in the country.
“The Southerners are everywhere in the North and we have not asked anybody to leave and go back to the South because we believe in one nation. All these people that are saying that the herdsmen are the cause of all these killings in Nigeria, are they police officers?
“They have no right to say that the herders are the people committing crime because the police, the army and other security agencies are doing their best to address the situation. But unfortunately, some people are trying to divert the attention of the security agencies and create more problems and tension in the country. I do not know why they are doing what they are doing. The Fulani should not allow anybody to chase them away; they should stay anywhere they want in this country. The Fulani are always the victims in all these crises in the country.
“If you investigate all these crises, you will find out that the Fulani are suffering too much because they do not hear English and do not have links with the media. They are usually in the bush and that is why everybody can tell all manner of lies against them.
“The Northern group calling on the Fulani to come back to the North is doing that because of the political interest of their members; we insist that the Fulani should stay anywhere they want.”
At a press briefing on Wednesday, one of the leaders of Afenifere, Ayo Adebanjo had ordered the Fulani herdsmen to leave the South West or face the consequences. Adebanjo who spoke on behalf of the group also warned the National Assembly not to amend the Land Use Act with a view to empowering the Federal government to allocate state lands to the controversial Ruga settlement project for herders.

lastdon5: This tradition is not an African thing. It is a tradition well practiced in Igbo land and even with the Hebrew of Israel to continue lineage and posterity. When a man dies without an heir, it Is the duty of his brother to take over the woman and get issues for his dead brother. now, what if he's an only son, who died without having an heir, what then happens?? That was exactly the scenario that played out. Genesis 38:8-9 KJV And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother. [9] And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother.
I guess this tradition is among our similarities with the Hebrews
