Temidayo Akinsuyi, Lagos

unaid Mohammed, Second Republic House of Representatives member has described Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai as a political soldier who cannot be relied upon to quell insurgency and the insecurity challenges in the country.

Speaking in an interview with Daily Independent, Junaid said whenever Buratai claims Boko Haram has been defeated, the insurgents replied him by carrying out deadly attacks which often leads to high military and civilian casualties.

“Don’t mind what this current Chief of Army Staff, Buratai has been saying. Every time he wants to make noise about the state of insecurity in the country, he says Boko Haram has been completely decimated and destroyed.

“Anytime, he makes that noise, it seems he is coordinating his reckless statements with Boko Haram themselves. He said those who are talking about Boko Haram are playing politics and that the issue of terrorism has been taken care of.

“Only last week, there was a skirmish in which a Colonel, Captain and some army officers in the rank and file numbering about 20 were killed.

“So, it is clear that Buratai is not a man to be relied upon. He is a political soldier who believes that he can make claims and get money from government. That is the tragedy we have,” he said.

PoliticsRe: Sagay Reacts To Akpabio’s Name On Ministerial List by foreshore(m): 6:50pm On Jul 24, 2019
hisexcellency34:
Temidayo Akinsuyi, Lagos

Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) on Wednesday said he is surprised to see the name of Godswill Akpabio, former governor of Akwa Ibom among the list of ministerial nominees sent to the Senate by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking in a chat with Daily Independent from the United States, Sagay who described most of the nominees as excellent candidates and trusted hands said he believed that as a government which has anti-corruption as one of its cardinal programme, an individual like Akpabio who is under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) shouldn’t be on the list.

Akpabio first came under investigation in 2015 following accusations that he diverted over N100bn from the oil-rich state between 2007 and 2015, an allegation which he has denied.

According to an interim report by the EFCC, the former governor allegedly gave a bank N1.4bn for unknown reasons.

Akpabio was alleged to have in 2013 paid N566, 883, 728.66, N441, 808,081.90 and N392, 631,943.37 as gifts to a new generation bank.

The investigation is being handled by the Counter-Terrorism and General Investigation Section of the anti-graft agency.

He said “I am very happy about the excellent ministers that are appointed like Babatunde Fashola, Rotimi Amaechi, Lai Mohammed, Adamu Adamu and Hadi Sirika. I am also happy about the inclusion of the dynamic and highly resourceful Festus Keyamo, who is very young and will add fresh energy and ideas into the team”

“Also, a lot of tested hands and reliable political allies are also there who committed to carrying out the programmes are also included such as George Akume, who is the leader of APC in Benue”.

“Altogether, I am happy even though I don’t know many of the names from the North but the ones I know, I am very happy about it”.

“The only nominee I am not satisfied with is Godswill Akpabio. I don’t know how he got into the list. That is the only one I have a reservation about”.

“You know when we have a programme in which anti-corruption is number one, if anybody is under investigation or not, I don’t think it is wise to include him in that list. But the president knows why he did that. Apart from that, I am quite happy with the list” he said.

PoliticsRe: Miyetti Allah To Herdsmen: Defend Yourselves Against Ethnic Militia Groups by foreshore(m): 8:52am On Jul 20, 2019
sarrki:
Barely 72 hours after President Muhammadu Buhari asked Fulani herdsmen in the South to ignore the call by northern elders asking them to return to the North, the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, the umbrella body for Fulani herdsmen in the country, has asked its members to defend themselves against any ethnic militia group in the country, saying herders should exercise their rights to free movement as Nigerians.

The National Secretary of the group, Saleh Alhassan, in a telephone interview with one of our correspondents on Thursday, also said that governors in the southern part of the country would be held responsible if any of their members was attacked.

The South-East Governors Forum, through its Director-General, Prof Simon Ortuanya, had recently warned that movement of cattle into the zone by foot would no longer be allowed except through trucks to specific cow markets to avoid the incessant clashes between herders and farmers.

The position of the governors was echoed by the Ohanaeze Youth Council worldwide a few days ago when it warned herdsmen to stop moving around bushes and farmlands across the South-East.

The council’s President General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, pointed out that starting from Saturday, July 20, 2019 (today), there would be severe consequences if herdsmen were caught moving around on foot with their cattle.

Also, the Yoruba nationalist organisation, Oodua Peoples Congress, had through its President, Prince Osibote Oodua, warned kidnappers and herdsmen engaged in criminal activities to stop or they would be forced to vacate the region. It stressed that it was ready to flush out those abducting innocent Nigerians.

The leadership of the three indigenous youth groups from the major southern geopolitical zones, including the Ijaw Youth Council in the South-South, had equally said three days ago that they could no longer tolerate the killings and threats from herdsmen in the zones.

Following the warnings, members of the Northern Elders Forum and the Coalition of the Northern Groups had on Tuesday asked herdsmen to leave the southern part of the country and return to the North where their safety could be guaranteed, a directive the President and all the southern groups had condemned.

Abdulazeez99:
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has suspended four heads of aviation security unit who were on duty when an unidentified man climbed an Azman aircraft at the Lagos airport on Friday morning, Igbere TV reports.

FAAN’s general manager, public affairs, Henrietta Yakubu, confirmed the development in a statement obtained by Igbere TV on Friday.

Mrs Yakubu said the suspension of the personnel was pending the completion of ongoing investigation into the regrettable security infringement.

It was not clear how the intruder reached the plane or what his intention was, but a viral video of the incident showed panicked passengers who appeared eager to flee the plane.

“Following the unfortunate airside incursion at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos on July 19, the authority has suspended indefinitely the aviation security unit heads.

“The personnel that were suspended were on duty when the incident occurred, pending completion of ongoing investigation into the regrettable security infringement.

“The affected officers are the Airport Chief of Security, Mamman Mohammed Sadiku and International Terminal Security Officer, Oni Abiodun.

“Others are the Head of Department Domestic Terminal 2, Kenneth Okezie and Head of Department Domestic Terminal 1, Adebowale Ayodele,” she said.

Yakubu said in the interim, a general manager, Dr Anne Enyinnaya-Egbadon, had been detailed to take charge of security at the airport.

She said other affected officers had also been replaced.

Yakubu said the current arrangement was aimed at ensuring an efficient and thorough investigation towards the recovery and sustenance of the airport’s proactive security integrity.

She added that FAAN viewed the breach as a serious security concern and had commenced investigation to ascertain the remote and immediate causes of that incident to forestall future occurrence.

He wrote as follows:

SUSPECTED CRIMINAL HIDE OUT SPOT AT OSHODI

The bus in the picture is the new stationed home of criminals around the Oshodi axis.

The bus which is abandoned in front of a company next to Ebony Life TV on Industrial Avenue road which also houses institutions like Glaxo Smithklin GSK, Union Bank, The Fountain of Life Church, Nestle PLC, Nicapaco, UBA Bank, and the rest, now serves as a means to exploiting innocent citizens by some Oshodi bad boys.

Preliminary investigation done by my team has it that the vehicle has been parked and abandoned there for close to a year, and countless number of innocent people have been victims of harassment and robbery at that same spot within the past one year.

Three security guards working with some of the companies around where the bus is parked who spoke to us in anonymity disclosed that; the Oshodi boys usually sleep and hide inside the bus at night to carry out their criminal acts on persons either going home from work at night or those going to work in the early hours of the morning. We also gathered that they sometimes use Keke Marwa and Okada to rob people of their belongings and snatch bags and phones of especially ladies.

Aside two of my fans who has reportedly said they were attacked and dispossessed of their bags, phones and other items at that spot, the security guards also mentioned several other criminal incidences like deflation of tyres of vehicles parked around the spot to rob the owners while trying to replace the tyres, amongst others.

To our amazement, we discovered during the cause of our investigation that the Ilupeju Police Division is just a few metres away from where the bus is parked, while the LASTMA office at Oshodi is on the other side where the newly constructed Oshodi bus terminal 3 is located.

While we were still trying to gather more information about the bus and the heavy criminal activities going on there, we sighted and flagged down one Ilupeju Police Division bus (painted in Police colour) which came to buy fuel at the Total filling station beside PZ Industries; to share our observations with them, but they immediately yelled at us shouting that we should go and remove the vehicle by ourselves. #PoliceToo?... Na wa o. Hmmm!

As responsible citizens of this country, we are expected to join forces with both the government and the security agencies to fight insecurity in the state and Nigeria as a whole by reporting any security threats, criminal acts and or conspiracies to the relevant security agencies.

To this end, we want to use this medium to call on the Lagos State Government, Governor, the Nigerian Police Force, and LASTMA to look into this issue and help the innocent and helpless citizens around the affected area to bring a lasting solution to this matter. We trust that the governor @jide-sanwolu will won't see this report and keep quiet.

Also, as long and as dangerous as Industrial Avenue road is for passers by and motorists, especially at night, the presence of the Police is not felt there at all. Please we appeal to the Nigeria Police Force to help us provide more security patrol functions to that areas for the safety of lives and property.
