Ilovemystate: Just last year 2015 There was pandemonium in the Mile 12 area ofLagos on Monday when some Hausa traders went onthe rampage and reportedly engaged soldiers in aclash.According to eyewitnesses, the confusion started atabout 2pm when the traders were chased out of theIkorodu Road by the soldiers. Our correspondent gathered that the soldiers, whowere in a patrol van, had stopped to rid the road oftraders, who were selling their wares and causinggridlock. The Hausa traders were parts of the“offenders”.It was gathered that the Hausa traders, allegedlyresisted the soldiers and engaged them in a fight.A shop owner in the area, who identified herselfsimply as Adejoke, said the clash compounded thetraffic snarl in the area for about an hour, as manypeople fled. She said, “Some Hausa traders started the fight inthe afternoon. The soldiers sent everybody awayfrom the road, but they refused to leave. No vehicleor bus could drive pass as the Hausa tradersthreatened pedestrians and commercial drivers withcutlasses.”Our correspondent gathered that the rampagingtraders also prevented passengers from boardingvehicles of the Bus Rapid Transit scheme. The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSPKenneth Nwosu, said he would get back to ourcorrespondent. He, however, had yet to get back as of press time.Copyright PUNCH.All riwww.punchng.com/metro-plus/hausa-traders-soldiers-clash-in-mile-12/ Mtcheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Orkpekyandega: 18 foreign coaches who have managed the Eagles previously Posted by timmynaijaon February 19, 2010 at 12:08pm -Clemens Westerhof (Holland) 1989-1994 Till date he is the most successful coach that has managed the team, winning the 1994 Nations Cup and helping the country qualify for its first World Cup.
The team‘s success under his guidance led to its name to be changed from the Green Eagles to the Super Eagles in the build-up to the 1992 Nations Cup where Nigeria won bronze. He failed to lead the team in qualifying for Italia‘90 World Cup but he showed his determination to be at the next edition by rebuilding the team.
His first remarkable success was reaching the Nations Cup final in 1990 in Algeria where Nigeria lost 1 – 0 to the host. Rating: 9/10.
-Johannes Bonfrere (Holland) 1995-1996 The Dutchman came tothe country to assist Westerhof but he got his chance to be in charge of a team when in 1991 he was appointed to coach the Super Falcons. His achievement with the women‘s team gave him the opportunity to be in charge of the Olympic football team in 1995 and the following year led the team to win gold at Atlanta‘96 Olympic Games.
He left the country unceremoniously after he was hired to manage Qatar between 1996 and 1997. When Thijs Libregts was fired in 1999, Bonfere was hired to manage the Eagles again and he led them to a second place finish at the 2000 Nations Cup co-hosted by Nigeria and Ghana. Nigeria lost to Cameroun via penalty shootout.
He left the team to coach the national team of the United Arab Emirate in 2001 while his assistant, Shaibu Amodu, took over the team. Rating: 7/10.
-Philippe Troussier (France) 1997 His success with African clubs earned him the nickname ‘White Witch Doctor‘.
He was engaged by Nigeria in 1997 and guided the Super Eagles in qualifying for the 1998 World Cup. He left Nigeria the same year under controversial circ***tances, leaving the NFA to begin a search for another foreign coach.
He managed three other national teams between 1997 and 2002. Rating: 5/10.
- Bora Milutinovic (Serbia) 1998 The Serbian, popularly referred to as the Miracle Worker, had taken three teams to the World Cup before joining Nigeria in 1998.
He later guided China to the Mundial in 2002. The coach was hired simply for his World Cup experience needed to guide the Eagles through France‘98.
He hardly made any change to the squad he inherited from Troussier and it was not a surprise that the Eagles failed to go beyond the second round of the competition. Rating: 4/10.
- Thijs Libregts (Holland) 1998-1999 He had managed nine other teams – including the Dutch national team – before taking charge of the Eagles in August 1998. He was dismissed by Olympiakos in 1995 and was jobless until he was hired by Nigeria.
Having been dismissed by Olympiakos, Libregts took charge of the Eagles in August 1998 after a disappointing World Cup campaign by Milutinovic.
He was relieved of his job after winning just two games in five matches in the build-up to the 2000 Nations Cup. Rating: 3/10.
- Berti Vogts (Germany) 2007-2008 The German had vowed never to return to football management after dumping the Scotland team but a lucrative deal with Nigeria made him change his mind.
His four-year contract abruptly came to an end 13 months later after he resigned following the poor performance of the Eagles at the 2008 Nations Cup in Ghana. Rating: 3/10.
The last man on the list was Lars Legaback who was engaged in 2010 to lead us in South Africa where we ended up disgracing Africa.
Forgiveness you can now see the long list of foreign Coaches who were engage to manage our football with little to show for it.

May be you want me to guess; Goodluck Jonathan? See as of the time Keshi invited the duo, no body ever believed he was going to loose his election so don't go there.
The truth of the matter is that, Keshi managed to get the best out of the little we had at the time.
If he had relied on the so called foreign stars or NFF list eh, we would have had to wait for another century to win the AFCON.
Keshi was one man that knew how to get the results with his formula untill NFF interfered. Bros we never had the stars to win AFCON, but Keshi made it with them.
Ok na, nobody believed but Oga Keshi don think am. He is a politician coach. |

Orkpekyandega: Forgiveness how many years did it take Stephen Keshi to win us AFCON with very harsh working conditions from his employers.
How many did it take his foreign counterparts to do same with better working conditions from the same employers? Hmm! There is a difference btw winning with class and winning with wuruwuru. You can ask Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea and Brazil. They will tell you. Can you cross your heart and swear you didn't complained or hissed when you watched Eagles played the first 3 matches in the last Nations Cup. Maybe you have forgotten because of the trophy. If collecting 5 million at the end of every month is harsh working condition, i wonder wetin hawker go come talk. |

TheGoodJoe: Are you saying Coach Keshi did nothing good after the AFCON?
That man felt the full weight of everything wrong with the NFF and those guys were always faultless because the axe fell on Coach Keshi's head.
I keep repeating, we were getting there. The last three games of Coach Keshi showed we terminated him and a wrong time.
We scored seven goals in our last three games, conceded three, won two and drew one.
I am not saying he was excellent but only geniuses can navigate through treacherous paths and deliver results.
How many list his sighting of Aaron Samuel. His infusion of Hope Akpan and Aluko, how many hail him for his taking Mikel to a more creative role.
What of the Italians injuring players to win. He was not close to what you guys make him.
Coach Keshi is the best since Westerhoff and it was not only due to the AFCON. When did he start to use Aluko? Was it when he was inform or...? When Aluko was in the form of his life, in Rangers, Keshi ignored him but when he eventually invited him, Keshi benched him in the first match, played him for only 2 minutes to the end of the match and finally dropped him from the list because he doesn't want Aluko to spoil market for the player he was busy promoting. Uzoenyi. Chai! |

Na wa. Oshaniwa was one of the brilliant choices of Coach Keshi. If it is that one, you have no point. That boy did well. How come subsequent coaches never called Taiwo. No more lack of Presidential backing. I have told you, it takes time to build the team. Look at Echiejile. After he injured, Juwon Oshaniwa took over the left back.
When Echiejile returned, Coach Keshi brought Echiejile back. Echiejile flopped and Oshaniwa took back the place. It is not for contract but rebuilding the team slowly. Imagine! Juwon Oshaniwa over Taye Taiwo at that time he was in the form his life. After the guy entered, burkina-faso almost scored. My heart was in my mouth. Thank God we later won. |

joseph1013: Seriously...I no wan dey hear Keshi. The guy did well and messed up the rest if his tenure. The way sentimentality clouded his selections was unreal. I no even wan remember those bad episodes. Which coach takes just a fit first team to the world cup. Look at our bench and you saw nothing. Look at all the scandals with the player selections. Does anyone remember the transfer of Sunday Mba and how Keshi never invited him again after the debacle? Let's banish the memories of Keshi's ugly past abeg.

I will not tell you. Google works on your browser. Google whether the NFF stopped Coach Keshi from using home based players.
See Coach Siasia's list. That is what they are against. You see am! If NFF stopped him how come local players still found their way into Keshi's list? |
Sports › Re: Super Eagles Of Nigeria Thread: 2017 AFCON Qualifiers. by forgiveness: 5:57pm On Mar 03, 2016 |
TheGoodJoe:
You misunderstood me. You said towards the end, he invited players because of perceived sacking. I am telling you that during that so called perceived sacking period, he was not earning money. Coach Keshi had no contract. And that's why he had invited those players to pacify the NFF to renew his contract because no more defenders and protectors. |
Sports › Re: Super Eagles Of Nigeria Thread: 2017 AFCON Qualifiers. by forgiveness: 5:46pm On Mar 03, 2016 |
TheGoodJoe:
I pointed out that first of all, he lost his tactician. Coach Sylvanus Okpala. Second, the NFF said he should not use home based players again which ruled out some of his AFCON players.
That took him to square one and he had to almost start over.
Apart from the armories, he matched the team forward and achieved results. Those who fired their ammunitions, hardly pointed out his brilliant work. Team building takes time and he was getting there.
People kept on hammering selections but hardly looked at the overall results which is harder. I hardly saw ammunitions against Oliseh's selections but look at his AFCON results. Tell us when NFF said so and a game Keshi didn't use a local player. |
