fabyom: The light was being tested in readiness for today's game. The Ghanaians were already done with their training, it was during their jyration time and they should have left the pitch during that period. Nevertheless, the light went off and on for less than 3/5 minutes.
joelsteron: Because while defending the wingers mostly had to help the slim midfield leaving just Osimehn. Hence the reasons I'd prefer a 352 lineup with two men upfront.
codemaniacs: moses and dennis attempts dribbles a lot and will lose the ball.. and your formation puts them as wide forwards which means they won't really drop deep to help the midfield and defense... Aribo struggles when playing as a 10 for S.E so he should be moved to the wings..
Aina and Zaidu have proven to play the wings better than our wingers so let them play the wings.. Etebor and Onyeka like going forward and will make the defense weak on a counter. Bonke is needed...
It’s clear you didn’t watch the match against Ghana because if you did, you would have noticed Moses and Dennis went back to defend. Even the commentators made a comment about Dennis saying “it’s unusual of him”
Both can attack and defend hence my reason for listing them on my list.
About Aribo struggling to play in number 10 for us, can you give instances?
Football this days is about tactics and players are expected to carry it out on the field of play. Therefore, there’s nothing like they like going forward, it’s the that will give direction on how they will play.
Kog45: Good team list cos with Etebo and Onyeka am seeing better midfield...Iheanacho did not impressed me in the last match and Bonke was damn too direct and predictable.
Exactly! Our midfield became stable when the duo came on to play.
andrewbaba44: Same here ,but I need amoo/lookman in for any winger wey Dey fuckup for second half
Ighalo should play a part also
To be frank, I would have preferred Olayinka instead of Amoo because he impressed against Tunisia. Even more impressive than Chuks but I was surprised he was dropped.
It’s the same match that influenced Sadiq’s recall but Olayinka was tactically kicked out for Amoo.
leathalbeast: when i said dead midfield I didnt mean individual players, i meant as a collective team and tactics wise, i know u have good midfielders but as a group they were not match for ours
leathalbeast: so what makes you think that he will switch from 4-2-4 formation ? He favours strikers over midfielders and im sure he will repeat same thing on tuesday thereby ceeding the midfield to us
Icon79: Nna, count me in the camp of anyone but Eguaveon. I can do better with that team than Egu!
Kenneth Omeruo was our best defender at the AFCON, so why leave him on the bench yesterday? Instead he selected a Center Back both of whom don’t have pace and are not good passers of the ball …. against a very fast and energetic Ghanaian team!
How can you play an archaic 424 formation when you don’t have good ball handlers and good passers in midfield?
After watching what Calvin Bassey is doing at Rangers, how can any serious coach starts Sanusi ahead of him? Furthermore, Kelechi Iheanacho was played out of position yesterday. And it became apparent within the first few minutes that he wasn’t gonna have a good game. So the options are to either change the system or change the player. But coach Egu kept him for 90 mins playing out of position and totally ineffective.
ChrisKels: The only reasonable thing I saw Onyeka do was that faint which he even outdid himself by ending it with a poor decision, otherwise, dude was a real carpenter.
TheGoodJoe: I agree with most but I disagree on Iheanacho. Among the forwards, Chukwueze, Osimhen, Simon and Iheanacho, Iheanacho was the only one working with the midfield.
He was the only one dropping deep to help build play, keep possession and give us numerical strength in the midfield. I value these over most attacking qualities because it ties with the basic principle of keeping the ball.
Also, Iheanacho is the only forward we have that can keep his head up to see a team mate in space and he also had the passing ability.
What affected Iheanacho yesterday was our poor to non existent possessive play but from that angle he did a good job.
Iheanacho was the weak link in the first half though he somehow came to the party in the second half.
TheGoodJoe: Sound Possession Principles Bests Individual Brilliance Addo showed yesterday that it is not the amount of star players you have that helps you dominate the game but the amount of players that can play to a sound tactical plan.
Yesterday, they repeatedly nullified the individual stars of the Super Eagles with sound tactical approaches.
Oga! He had the upper hand because Iheanacho was lost in the midfield battle.
cheche35: I see many people criticising Iheanacho here, the only chance of the game was created by Iheanacho. Same at the AFCON, He scored a goal vs Egypt and also created an assist. Iheanacho may not be very fast in the eyes, but he is very effective. If any player will create a goal out of nothing it is Iheanacho. There is a reason SiaSia, Rhor and now AE all played him. My advice is for the coach to played him instead of Chukwueze, let him be drifting to the SS role while the RB provide the width. Then find a way to compensate for the RB. But you can not afford to not play your most dangerous and clinical player
Point of correction, that was not the only chance of the game. Osimhen and Aribo missed too.
