IronGalaxy: Lol, you still don't have a clue do you? You made a mockery of what I said earlier when I said South Africa was the most " industrialised " in Africa right? And you said " industrialised blah, blah" when we are in a recession" right?
A recession simply means an economic decline where industrial activity stalls or slows down and GDP as well, therefore any country, industrialised/developed or not can experience a recession. I thought South Africa has a perfect economy and society. Aaayaaa! See wetin recession do you. |

IronGalaxy: Lol, I don't think you understand what a recession means, absolutely nothing to do with being developed or being industrialised. Hence I keep saying, you're dumb g It has everything to do with it. Olodo rabata. Read and learn fast. What has plunged South Africa into a recession?Of course, Q4 in 2019 was when the dreaded Stage 6 of load shedding was implemented. The unprecedented power cuts brought the country to its knees – highlighted horrifically by the data. Power stations were unable to function, and the polar extremes of flooding and drought harmed several industries. All of this in the same month where Moody’s will decide whether or not to downgrade the economy to junk status. The timing is… impeccable, if nothing else. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.thesouthafrican.com/news/finance/why-south-africa-in-recession-2020-numbers-data/amp/ |

SIRTee15: Stop giving excuse for a failed state like nigeria..... And will u stop insulting people, simply because they hold a contrary opinion.... U are the one confusing individual wealth for national development.....
Yes, some African countries perform better than nigeria on every national economic n prosperity indices..... This is not about throwing money around and making noise.... It's about the standard of living of the average citizen. Those countries mentioned, do u see their citizens drowning in Mediterranean in a desperate bid to get to Europe... But Nigerians are being sold as slaves in Libya on daily basis..... Nigerian women are travelling to Lebanon to work as maids.... Nigeria is not at war with any nation, no natural disasters, no famine or drought, no plague.... Yet everybody is desperate to get out...
Nigeria is a huge disgrace to the black world, an embarrassing evidence that blacks can neither manage nor organize themselves.... Despite cheap oil money, all we can boast about are few millionaires....
Foreigners come to Lagos and Abuja and are usually disappointed.... They wonder...so what's the hype about these cities....
We always like to show big mansions in banana island, ikoyi or eko atlantic city as evidence of development.... Who's fooling who.... Rent seeking economy deceiving itself.... Let oil price crash, Nigeria will know its true level....
If Nigeria can get it right...other black African nations will get it right.... And the rest of the world will shut up.... A big fat lie. Foreigners are amazed at the rate of development they see in Nigeria. Electricity is just the major problem. |

Nowenuse: This is the map of Jebba below. The river is the boundary between Niger & Kwara and I cannot see the part of Jebba across the River in the Niger side of it.
Jebba cannot explain the case of Kaduna well.
But let us assume it does.
How about Abuja which I asked you about? If Nigeria divides today and FCT ceases to exist as a political division and Abuja Municipal, Suleja, Karu ends up in a new middlebelt country with entirely different political classifications, what then happens?
Cc forgiveness
For the records, I understand all the political classifications of Nigeria, perhaps far better than you... Just that I am following the world standard definition of a metropolitan/urban area and this is a definition that cuts across countries (national boundaries), let alone states.... You are stuck with local politcal boundaries, that is just the difference between your perspective and mine. Please, see the official Urban area of Lagos. Badagry, Ikorodu, Ota, Ifo and even Lekki are not included.

Nowenuse: Longtime my friend. I didn't reply cos I was tired of explaining to people the differences.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metropolitan_area
Pls read this link above and try to understand what is being defined as a metropolitan/urban area.
Lagos State is different from Lagos metropolitan/urban area...
Somebody here gave an example of how Washington DC urban area extends into the state of Maryland, but it is still considered one urban area... Longtime. No worries. I have gone through the link, but from what I deduced from your link, there is difference between Metropolitan and Urban areas. Which of these two are you talking about? Unlike an urban area, a metropolitan area includes not only the urban area, but also satellite cities plus intervening rural land that is socio-economically connected to the urban core city, typically by employment ties through commuting, with the urban core city being the primary labor market. |

Nowenuse: Thank you very much for this enlightenment.. If these places you mentioned are added, then Ibadan could be up to 600km²... Still not enough to displace Abuja.
No hatred intended, but personally I feel Ibadan an urban area so large in size is not living up to it's potentials... Imagine Ibadan being bigger than Kano, but it cannot compare Kano in terms of finance, businesses, industries, infrastructure and cosmopolitanism. Ibadan, as well as many other Yoruba cities are experiencing a very serious brain drain if you ask me. Lagos is taking away all Yoruba elites, intellectuals and entrepreneurs and this is not really good. I don't know about finance of both cities but can you please give evidence to back up your claims on business, industries, infrastructure and cosmopolitan. I need facts. |
Politics › Re: 25 Largest Cities/urban Areas In Nigeria By Landmass by forgiveness: 9:49pm On Mar 11, 2020 |
Nowenuse: Many people wrongly assume that the size of a city/urban area is exactly the same thing with the size of the LGA(s) it occupies, but that is very wrong... This is because the LGA(s) may not be entirely urbanized as a large part or some part of it may consist of Water, Swamps, Forests, Rivers, Creeks e.t.c with an uneven topography which does not support development...
Thank God for the increasingly available technologies like Google satellite maps which helps us to view the world from above and even take measurements. There is a feature on Google maps that allows you to measure land area and it is with that feature that all the readings below were obtained.
Disclaimer*. The measurements below are not 100% correct as 1 or 2 neighborhoods/suburbs may not be included as part of a city/urban area it belongs to in the process of the measurement.. However, to a large extent this helps to give us a clue or picture as to how large or small certain Nigerian cities/urban areas are.
