daveP: This Moses argument never end?
I can't call him a Legend yet, but he was very pivotal to Afcon 2013 than Mikel. Simple.
Mba sits among Legends cos his solo contributions to the title sits well in the hearts of Nigerians for that goal that made 180million peeps jump up in front of their TV sets just like Kanu's winning Goal at Atlanta 96. That's why Mba sits there.
If you like play like Iniesta and don't do what Kanu and Mba did at very vital moments, you can't be qualified as a legend. That's the Nigerian way!!! Has VicMo done that? Nope!! So he can't be called a SE legend. guy doesn't even have 70caps sef. Kanu wasn't even playing well in the final prior to his heroics in Atlanta.
Hence, I can say that It's the same eyes that we use to look at Mikel for his heroics Vs CIV. But Moses has done far far more than Mikel did to our team. Siasia was one of the coaches that proved his team can work without the presence of Mikel. But remove Moses from our attack line and we are back to our High blood pressure days again. The ish was that he grew selfish as time flew by. I think that's the eye peeps are using to see him, I did to.
The same eye peeps use to see Yakubu for his miss at 2010 WC. Meanwhile he had a very good record as an attacker for both club and country.
That's just it.
These footballers should know that's how we see them.
Mba can never ever be forgotten in decades to come until we have another superlative heroic from any current or new SE player. simple. See Nigeria vs Ivory Coast player ratings.

A guy named pitroipa was given the best player despite Burkinafaso loosing the final, just the way Modric won the golden ball at the World Cup
If there was a silver ball in that tournament it will go to emenike or mikel
From what you said,I repeat my self na back of tv you dey watch
Mind you emenike scored 4 goals and did 3 assist, and you dare to say that Moses was our best player,he only scored 2 penalty against Ethiopia Moses was compensated with the fair play award. |

safarigirl: Atlanta 96 was Nigeria's first trophy at that level on the World Stage.
AFCON was not out first.
Kanu is also an Arsenal legend
Moses is not a Chelsea legend
If you want to give Moses legend status based on AFCON, then Sunday Mba should also be a Nigerian football legend.
Kanu started a heart foundation that has helped millions, what has Moses helped anybody do?
You assume being a legend is solely about football. It is not just about playing a game, it is about the sacrifices you make in the process of playing.
Which sacrifice has Moses ever made for the GwG? He used the team to elevate himself, but never did anything to his own detriment for the sake of the team. Nigga was a selfish ass mofo and he wasn't even good enough to cover up for it. Not one record worthy of note on any stage. Is that your legend?
Moses is not a Legend, he's not even a Hero or a Star, maybe he could be a Guinness because he's made of black Moses was already a popular figure in the EPL with Wigan and that was the main reason Chelsea bidded 5 times for him before Chelsea bought him from Wigan. He could had played for England during that particular peeiod when he was adjourned the best dribbler in the EPL but he refused and still played for Nigeria. Check your facts right, abeg. |

He was the best in his era, but he isn't the best in this new era.
The biggest question is where Moses stands in Nigerian football history, he is no legend, he will eventually be compared to the likes of Osaze who could give you some really great performances on some days and then make you wonder where his brain went on other days.
It is sad that he decided to leave at this point, because he will not be remembered the way he should have been. Bhuhahahaha! Wetin Onyekuru don do? Yehahohuyamakosa! that laughter in Japanese. In this present era, I never see Victor Mose' factor. |

TheSuperNerd: So Moses singlehandedly won us the games against CIV and Mali abi? Just Victor Moses? SMH... Look, Moses was excellent in those games but he was not the only stand-out. He shared the stage with a few other excellent performers.
So Moses is not near Osaze at his peak abi? You will say this because you want to belittle Mikel's contribution to the NT? Kwantinue.
Please who is Nsofor and Obasi to Moses? Na wa ooo
Mikel was 18 going on 19 in 2006 where they finished 3rd. At 2008, they lost out too as the Post-Okocha period was still tough on them. Kanu was running on already tired legs. In 2010, Mikel finally took up mantle as leader of the young guns but the team was still ultimately led by Enyeama, Martins, Yakubu, Osaze, Yobo.. they fell short in the SF. 2012, we didn't qualify.
But in 2013, Keshi obviously made Mikel one of the undisputed leaders of the team on-field and surrounded him with the personnel to enable him explode on the grand stage called the Afcon. Then came in Victor Moses and it was a match made in heaven.
Mikel was no leader in those times he didn't win but he was leader alongside Yobo and Enyeama in 2013. He matured and it paid off with Moses and Emenike in the mix too.
You are not the only one who keeps chonicles on NT players Biko... So stop sounding like it is a hidden secret on how Mikel grew into his role in the Super Eagles Squad as leader.
Now here is food for thought... You credit Moses as the sole reason we conquered in 2013. We failed to qualify in 2015 and 2017... I guess that should be Moses' fault alone too abi? Since he was the alpha and Omega of the team in his time.
Was Okocha the leader before he distinguished himself to had made CAF team of the tournament after we won the 1994 AFCON? How old was Okocha, Sunday Oliseh and Daniel Amokach then? Despite Mikel been surrounded with players of higher caliber in those days, he could not do anything. Players like John Utaka, Peter Odenwingie, Taye Taiwo, Ike Uche, Martins, Obasi but after victor moses came in thinks changed. etc The bolded is why I said Victor Moses is the alfar the omega because he played no part in our failure to qualify in 2015 and in 2017 he only played 1 and half match. Did Mikel not play in all the qualifiers yet we failed to qualify? Why? |

TheSuperNerd: It is not a question of "if Babatunde played as a winger" but who was keeping Moses out of the team (Starting XI). Babatunde played AM and CM. And so did Moses (AM) when he started in place of Babatunde against France. Musa and Osaze kept their places. Moses played Central against France and drifted to the flanks sometimes. This shows that Moses could be accommodated in the same lineup with Osaze and Musa but Babatunde was ahead under Keshi and justified the decision too.
Please don't miss the point. Even then, Moses took a little while more to really establish himself as a Super Eagles indispensable and key player in the long run. That is the point of my going back to the 2014 WC period
In all, bottomline is that Moses served us well and played a vital part in giving us our most glorious football moments so far in this 21st century. He will always be remembered as a Hero especially for the 2013 Afcon Triumph. He has called it quits and I think we should all respect it and move on... The future of Nigerian Football remains as bright as ever in terms of the avalanche of quality young talents coming through especially on the wings. In good time, we will make up for Moses' absence. Victor Moses was played as a LW against Iran and it was Peter Odenwingie that was benched. Babatunde replaced Ramon Azeez in the next match against Bosnia. Fact. |

TheSuperNerd: How many games did Moses single handedly win? Apart from the Ethiopia game tell me another please.
Asking the puzzle question shows that you don't understand that most times all it takes to conquer is a player with a certain skillset and quality added to the other core players with the right level of quality already on ground. Was Kalu Uche a dashing dribbling winger? What about Osaze? Was he the kinda player that could go dribble on the run, Stretching the plays..? Was Obasi powerful on the run? Was he not lightweight? Moses was the total package of power, speed, dribbles, drive and finishing back in 2013.
Victor Moses had no Afcon experience before 2013 yet he exploded at that tournament because he was a round peg in a round hole. He was the kinda player needed to join forces with Mikel and Emenike at the peak of their powers and cause an earthquake on the continent and they did just that. Did you forget the ones against CIV and Mali? Victor Moses is not near Peter Odewingie when he was at his peak. Nsofor no get speed, skills etc. Obasi nko All those players at the same time in the same era. Why Mikel no win AFCON? I have followed Mikel for donkey years and I can tell you everything you to need know about his development in the national team. |

TheSuperNerd: I do understand the Victor Moses factor. And it took him a little while to build that name too. He tore things up at Afcon 2013 but went missing at the WC in 2014 with even a Michael Babatunde preferred ahead of him. Took him a while to come back from that and make himself into the Victor Moses that went on to become EPL champion.
Victor Moses remains one of the top players Nigeria had in this era but I believe his absence will be replaced with time. Just give it time.
I know you are concerned about Afcon 2019. How are we going to execute that without Victor Moses? Well... Time will tell. He went to the world cup just recovering from long injury in 2014. Fact. Keshi intentionally also kept him on the the bench for reasons best known to him. Besides, Michael didn't directly replace or benched Victor Moses because he played as an SS or AMF while Victor Moses played on the wings. |

TheSuperNerd: That is Life Egbon. Mikel was a key part of the puzzle needed to enable Nigeria conquer Africa again. Emenike was another piece of the puzzle but another was also Victor Moses. Moses was like the last missing piece of the puzzle. Putting them all together, we had a masterpiece team that rose to conquer the continent. Remove any of them and we would not have conquered. A Moses in that team without Mikel would have failed. A Mikel in that team without Moses would also have failed. They needed each other. Simple.
And if we are being honest, there is no aspect of this discussion where Moses comes out on top as Nigeria's best in this era over Mikel. Club and country showings/achievements prove this fact. Mikel will be remembered as NIGERIA's finest in the Post-2010 WC era when he hangs up his boots. That is a fact. Victor Moses singlehandedly won matches during that Afcon triumph. It is a known and established fact. Besides, Mikel played alongside players better or on the same level with Victor Moses. Kalu Uche, Odemwingie, Obasi etc why em no solve the puzzle to win AFCON? |

Henry Onyekuru is expected to make his marks soon too with time. And Samuel Kalu is a greenhorn with loads of potentials that was brought in to replace a Malcolm that went to Barca. There is also a Bazee and an IWOBI. Come on mehn! Even a Lookman (if gotten) would give us more mad quality options.
The signs and progress of our young lads show that we will do just fine without Moses. Moses gave us six years and we appreciate him and all he did but now we look to the ones he has left the stage for. It seems you don't understand Victor Moses' factor. Well, if only the aforementioned could only bring that to the team. Time will tell. Na siddon dey look I dey. |

We need to stop pampering these guys. He felt like a god towards the ending of his international career.
I fell among the lots that supported him... Those days are far gone now.
Any player that is under performing, uncommitted to the course should be axed. Attitude is Everything!
Our boys performed woefully at the just concluded World Cup and only few of them showed remorse.
Abeg who is begging them to play for us? There are more than 1million Nigerians that will jump to the opportunity of putting on the green white green.
That's why I want the coach to look deep and fish out the players who are willing to put on the GWG. We have them scattered all over the world.
The Super Eagles is bigger than one player. Nigeria is bigger than an individual!
It is time to get it right with our football. He is not committed but he won us the Afcon and even qualified us for the world cup. Make una continue. I think the lad realized he is not appreciated hence his impromptu retirement. |

TheSuperNerd: Moses won an award, yes. He was outstanding at Afcon 2013. We cannot deny that solid fact. But we also know that without any award, Mikel was also a super reason for our triumph. Mikel had Two assists in that tournament. Gave the pass that found ideye that found Emenike in that first game too. Bossed the CIV midfield that had Yaya Toure and co. Mikel's best game was against CIV and that game against CIV's golden Generation would forever go down as part of Mikel's classy midfield legacies.
So Egbon, it is debatable. Moses was not heads and shoulders the MVP of the team at Afcon 2013. He shared that recognition with Mikel. Mikel was obviously not named Player of the tournament because of a certain Pitroipa who was also beautiful to watch then.
And yes, Victor Moses is rated above the young lady coming through. It is expected naa. They are young lady still rising strong in the game but we both agree that they have huge potentials to grow and step into Moses' shoes comfortably. They have hunger, passion and drive added to their talents so I feel we are covered in Moses' absence going into the future (both near future and long term). That award alone is what distinguished him above his peers. Fine, I acknowledge Mikel but that award tells the story. All that you said in the second paragraph is all I already know but I only want to make it clear there a big shoe these lads have to fit into in other to be accepted by the majority of Nigerian fans.
