Go and check the profits declared by these companies and how their stock rises
The only time they had issues was in 2015/2016 where oil prices fell below the production cost..but that didn't last long and.. The years of profits were able to make up for the losses..
Do you think it has taken Exxon mobile and Aramco a century to reach the height they are in..
Even Folorunsho..a tailor.. immediately she was given an oil block in Agbami..became the richest woman in the Africa.. Someone that was just sowing clothes..
With her oil money she has built two towers in Lagos using Julius Berger..
Who was Arthur Eze before he got his block..

Just so you know, Total is still a major player in the Nigerian offshore sector. Our offshore sector is far more profitable and comes with little to no issues. This is only a business decision. I hope you one day get to own a business so you get to understand how the world works. Just keep quiet. Total already said the reason for selling their shares. All you wrote na epistle. You are not a shareholder but a nobody in total. |

TheBillyonaire: I have verify constantly that I am Human before I can log into Nairaland, but what Nairaland's Seun does not know is that cloudflare also uses such clicks to track data and cookies to develop their AI modules.
That being said, the Federal Government, should have their presence on nairaland, and Seun should make the forum appealing for people with brains and figure out what to do for less intelligence moderation instead of depending on impression generation as source of revenue alone.
Again, let me thank the Federal Government for the PIB bill that has mandated the Foreign investors in Petroleum Sector to clean up the environment and help host communities. Most importantly, there should be amendments that ensures that ANY multinational that has contravene the environmental laws and wants to exit without cleaning off the environment should not transfer such liability to companies wanting to acquire their Equity positions, because the new stakeholders will NOT clean up the environment, instead their Equity position should be taken over by the Communities. They should lose their Equity positions because they have broken their laws.
They should also be stopped from acquring our gas assets ofshore, cos as far as I am concerned, a company like Shell and their cronies are just interesting in milking Africans. How can a country with no oil and gas resources, own Oil companies that go around the world destroying our indigenous environments and take the wealth to their own countries.
Are we still slaves? Why do we choose to be stupid. I and many other Nigerians can mine our resources using our locally fabricated refineries and use the resources to build bigger refineries, yet ouyr governments prefer the white human beings?
Tinubu was not born stupid, he knows how street works, and he has to do something about this, or he should get the fucck off for a violently brilliant mind to chase these fuckers away.

tctrills: You really don't know much. Why else do you think a business will be pulling out. You really think 8f they are making so much profit, they would love to pull out? Now let me teach you kid. Oil isn't always profitable. Many times, oil companies sell at a loss. If a company keeps losing from some of it's facilities, it would sell. Is that what they told you? Total didn't pullout of Nigeria rather they pulled out due to not wanting to comply with Nigeria ecosystem laws. Shikena. They are divested to gas. Do you understand? Now, for those pharmaceutical companies pulling out. They didn't come to manufacture with local contents rather were importing goods here then assembly them in the name of manufacturing. That's why they couldn't keep up. Comprehend? |

Before 2016, this was the case because the CBN and Banks had the FX reserves to match the demand (which has grown over time). Don't be deceived. These banks have dollars. They are the owns selling to BDCs. Somebody wanted to transfer money in dollars. When I went to the bank to find out if I could withdraw 100 dollar bills, the banker lied they have only 20 dollar bills. Behold, aboki walked into the bank and he was given 1,000 dollars in 100 dollar bills. The banks are culprits in this. |

Now that laws are in place to check them, they don't want to continue because they were never interested in keeping the environment in good shape. |

ivolt: Nope. It will completely kill the economy. Of course, you will enjoy the Euphoria for weeks, maybe even months, then the birds will come home to roost.
And adaptive BDCs will simply migrate to virtual trading.
You mean you wan to pay foreign schools using Naira? This must be a joke. You are better off banning Nigerians from schooling abroad.
So, how would your bank pay the processing banks for the money you withdraw outside Nigeria. It is definitely not with Naira.
Yes, it will reduce the pressure by an insignificant amount.
Really, so how do you think the phone in your hand was delivered to you? Via Naira?
In order to achieve your fantasy, you would have to ban all Nigerians from traveling out of the country or using any products made outside of Nigeria using North Korea's style, then you can really reduce the pressure on Naira. Kill which economy? Is it the same economy not in comatose already because of those saboteurs buying dollars from BDCs and stocking it in their domiciliary accounts with the expectation of naira fall to gain more naira? When the naira depreciate, they withdrawal the dollars in their account. Rush back to BDCs and change it into naira and deposit the gain in naira account. Then use the capital to buy more dollars and keep in the bank. I am talking about buying dollars in millions with millions and billions of naira. This creates scarcity and we know the rules of economics. The higher the demand the higher the price. So, you are dead wrong by insinuating turning dollar to naira in the domiciliary account will kill economy. It will rather reduce pressure on naira because you will not be given dollars. It does not stop you from making electronic transfer to pay in dollars outside the country. If you want to pay foreign school fees, go to your bank and process the money which is in naira to pay in dollars online through the Nigerian bank straight the foreign bank in abroad. Fortunately, we have many Nigerian banks in U.K and other countries. The schools are the ones desperate for Nigerian students. They will comply If you need dollars, you can change the naira at the airport of your destination or use your card. Nigerian banks there will pay the processing fee. I doubt you are aware of that. Nobody should be given dollar in Nigeria. If you like knack your head for floor. All of you crying it will kill the economy are benefactors and saboteurs. Enemies of the state. |
Politics › Re: Western Union, Moneygram, Others To Pay Nigerians In Naira Instead Of Dollars by forgiveness: 8:24am On Feb 10, 2024 |
Obinoscopy: It will help the naira temporarily but will rebound with immense negative effect on the naira due to the scarcity of the dollar. Whether we like it or not, Nigeria is import driven thus thrives on the dollar. The moment dollar gets scarce, the prices of things will go up, including petrol. The dollar will get scarce because Nigerians don't trust that the government will allow a free float of the forex exchange thus there will be a reduction in the inflow of dollar into the economy.
The solution is simple, the government needs to put mechanism in place to switch our economy from a consumption driven economy to production driven one. Then the government can allow a free float of the naira which will give confidence of investors and diasporans allowing their hard earned dollars to get into the economy. Once dollar floods the economy, it's value will drop and the naira will gain. The government is not stopping you from earning in dollars but your dollar must be changed to naira if you want to collect cash because naira is the official currency for trade. I now realize that many of this people are enemies of the state. They are really enjoying the economy fail but still criticizing the government. What hypocrites!! |

I have said it. Turn the dollar and foreign currency in the domiciliary account into naira. This will starve the BDCs of foreign currency.
2. No organization or schools must be allowed to do transaction in cash in Nigeria. Including Nigerian immigration. In this way, pressure will reduce on dollars. I was sorry for Nigeria when I learnt British school in Lekki pays in dollars as at 10 years ago.
3. Nobody must possess 1,000 dollars coming into Nigeria. And any currency brought into the country must be deposited at the bank or change to naira at the airport or any point of entry.
4. Allow banks to make naira transfer in order to pay for school fees abroad.
5. Return back to the days naira atm card can withdraw money outside Nigeria.
These will reduce pressure on dollar demand. Nobody will need to search for dollars. |

Namaster: Tinubu and Cardoso have made another HUGE mistake.
Fools are tightening the noose around banks receiving Forex inflow when there are LITERALLY tons of other ways to receive your money.
No one will use banks to receive money with their nonsense exchange rates when there are better options out there.
Cardoso is a prime example of an extremely inspired idiot.
Imagine creating more hurdles for receiving Forex when the country is already groaning about NOT receiving any Forex in the first place.
That's like pouring MORE water on a drowning man.
Tinubu has no idea what to do with Nigeria. He's too proud and too nepotistic to get people who can help him out of the mess he's created. What are the other ways to get dollar or foreign exchange? You want to smuggle the money into Nigeria, abi? In other countries, you much declare the amount of dollar in your possession? |

You were lucky to even be in the semis because of an inexperienced Cape Verde. VAR gave you a second chance yesterday and you dey talk rubbish. Your boys were good in first half but as predicted gassed out in the second half but for Lookman as you said it would have been another 2-0 victory for us.
Even talking about tactics, he did well by exposing our team but our coach responded by bringing in players in extra time who not only earned his defender a red card but went ahead to take great penalty kicks, Broos should have been more humble in defeat, no one gave SA a chance to come this far at all.
