TheSuperNerd: NIGERIAN STARLET HENRY ONYEKURU CONFIRMS ARSENAL OFFER
https://images.performgroup.com/di/library/GOAL/b2/f4/henry-onyekuru-kas-eupen_ilatvtdcy2qf1mcd14x3mcgpj.jpg
Following a stunning season in Belgium, the 19-year-old striker has caught the attention of Gunners manager Arsene Wenger Nigerian striker Henry Onyekuru has confirmed that Arsenal have made an offer to secure his services.
The 19-year-old had a breakthrough campaign in the Belgian top-flight in 2016-17, scoring 24 goals in all competitions for Eupen.
His exploits have led to interest from around Europe, but it appears the Gunners are set to win the race for his services by triggering a £6.8 million buy-out clause.
"It’s a good feeling for a club like Arsenal to make a bid for me, this is due to my hard work in training and games," Onyekuru told the Nigerian Football Federation.
Onyekuru's attraction to the Gunners is partly fuelled by his desire to follow in the footsteps of one of his footballing idols.
"Thierry Henry has always been my idol since I was a kid," Onyekuru said.
"I was watching him play, watching Arsenal and going to YouTube to watch most of his games.
"I remember saying if I had to move to the Premier League I want to be like Thierry Henry, so it's likely to come true and I'm looking towards it at the moment."
Onyekuru made his full Nigeria debut on Thursday, coming on as a 59th-minute sub in the Super Eagles' 3-0 friendly win over Togo.

TheSuperNerd: NFF Take Concrete Steps To Cap Arsenal Linked Starlet, Invite Him To AFCON Qualifier Vs RSA
https://allnigeriasoccer.com/football_pics/46496Omidiji.jpg
The Nigeria Football Federation have taken concrete steps to cap the Arsenal linked wonderkid Lateef Omidiji Jnr ahead of the United States and Netherlands, and plan to present him to the public next Saturday before the national team take on South Africa in an African Cup of Nations qualifier in Uyo.
It can be exclusively revealed that the Feyenoord striker has been contacted to represent the United States U15 squad ahead of the 2019 Fifa U17 World Cup with a big announcement to be made in the coming days , but the Nigerian Federation are hoping to beat the Americans to this one.
''The Nigerian Federation have invited Lateef for the Eagles game in Uyo next weekend, they want to present him to the media and fans before the game, '' a top source close to the NFF told allnigeriasoccer.com .
''He is supposed to go to a USA U15 camp this summer, end of June or early July, but he has not decided yet. He may be in Nigeria this Wednesday if he accepts the offer from the NFF.
''USA are looking at him for the 2019 Fifa U17 World Cup. USA plan ahead, they are more strategic, they want to build the team around him. The NFF are talking about the same thing.''
Omidiji trained with the United States U14 squad in California in November 2016 and impressed the coaching staff.

TheSuperNerd: Rohr Recalls Dropped Watford Loanee Uche Agbo For South Africa Clash
https://owngoalnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/image-9.jpg
Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has handed a recall to Uche Agbo 24 hours after dropping the on loan Watford midfielder in his list of players for the AFCON 2019 Qualifiers against South Africa.
Agbo wasn’t included by the manager in his initial list, but the 23 year old who spent last season at Spanish La-liga side Granada will now join the team when they resume camp in Abuja ahead of the South Africa game.
No reason was given by the coach for his recall, even though team sources confirmed to Owngoalnigeria.com that he has lost his spot in the team to FC Porto teen defender Chidozie Awaziem ,who has struck a very good understanding with William Troost-Ekong in the central of defence for the team.
Rohr has always called up Agbo due to his abilities to play in more than one role for the team, as even though primarily plays as a defensive midfielder , he is also very much at home as a central defender, but the emergence of Awaziem means the central defence spot is well covered.
Also the midfield options available for the coach are very much ahead of him in the pecking order as the likes of Wilfred Ndidi, John Ogu, Eddy Onazi and new boy Mikel Agu have all proven to be best suited to the way the coach wants to play.

Scouting Notebook: Liverpool's Dominic Solanke Proving He's More Than a FinisherReports of how much Jurgen Klopp has to spend at Liverpool this summer have varied wildly, ranging from £100 million to a whopping £250 million, depending on the source. Big moves are expected following Champions League qualification, with clear first-team needs in a number of positions. But this summer's spend has started with a reasonably low-key addition: Earlier this week, the Reds confirmed the signing of Dominic Solanke from Chelsea. The 19-year-old striker's fee will be decided by a tribunal in the months to come, with The Telegraph suggesting it'll be in the region of £3 million. Solanke's reputation as one of the finest young strikers in England precedes him; his 41-goal season in 2014-15, 12 of which were scored as he led Chelsea to the UEFA Youth League title, generated serious buzz. He showcased lethal finishing skills and represented the garnish for an incredible youth team including Charly Musonda, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Andreas Christensen. Playing in that team must have been a dream; they dominated physically and technically, winning the midfield battle every time and serving up chance after chance. Solanke's predatory talents could not be doubted, but the question nagged: How successful would he be when forced to do a little more in the chance-creation department? Could it be that quite a few strikers would have racked up insane numbers playing ahead of that midfield? His immediate loan to Vitesse Arnhem, for the 2015-16 season, therefore carried a serious amount of intrigue. He'd find some home comforts there—Izzy Brown, Nathan and Lewis Baker, all of Chelsea, were also sent to the Eredivisie side—but he was also given the chance to experience life in football in a different setting, a different culture and in a less dominant team. The return of seven goals from 25 Eredivisie appearances was modest; the haul included some typical poacher goals, such as the ones he scored chasing longer shots in that rebounded off the goalkeeper, and some very impressive ones, like the chip against Groningen, but goals as a starter were in short supply. Vitessee (there managed rrent Ajax coach Peter Bosz for half the season), and Solanke found it tough going due to the limited space available to move into. Bosz left in January and was replaced by Rob Maas, who made the team as a whole quite a lot worse, and they ended the season in wretched form. The step Solanke took in 2015-16, from sheltered Chelsea youth to a half-dysfunctional Vitesse, was a big one, a bold one. It paid off in some ways, but not in others. He returned to Cobham for 2016-17, but whatever the plan was for campaign, it was derailed by a contract dispute that saw him play a sparing number of games and stall badly in his development. Things got messy; the Daily Mail's Matt Barlow, among others, reported the striker had asked for a new contract worth £50,000-per-week—something Solanke's legal team weren't happy with at all. And that leads us to this summer. When Solanke was named in England's squad for the Under-20 World Cup in South Korea, it brought a rare opportunity to simply see him on a football pitch. He's played a part in all four games so far as the Young Lions have qualified for the quarter-finals, netting once from the spot.Intriguingly, coach Paul Simpson has deployed him as a support striker or No. 10 in a 4-4-1-1, rather than as the out-and-out forward (Adam Armstrong or Dominic Calvert-Lewin have taken that role). He's the one dropping in and taking possession of the ball in congested areas, helping the team build attacks, rather than relentlessly running off the shoulder. One thing to note is that he's been extremely combative, engaging in plenty of duels each game and testing his strength against midfielders and defenders. One of the knocks on him during his time at Vitesse is that he sometimes shirked duels and battles, so to see him so willing to engage and fight is a major positive. He played two brilliant through-balls during the opener against Argentina, neither converted by the runner, having brought it under his control in a deeper position. Again, this is something he didn't really do at Chelsea because he simply didn't have to; he was the runner, the finisher, not the creator. He's also added value in the defensive phase for England, guarding the near post from corners well and clearing a lot of aerial balls early. He's tracked back from his support striker role, too, and against Argentina, where the Young Lions saw little of the ball despite winning 3-0, Solanke pressured and harried Santiago Ascacibar and Co. into mistakes. There are still some technical question marks. Playing more regularly in those deeper areas and fighting for the ball has showed up a slightly iffy touch at times, and his close control could use work. Fortunately, if he does lose it, he chases it back. One thing you cannot say about Solanke is that he doesn't work hard; in actual fact, he's relentless, never giving defenders a rest. The more layers Solanke adds to his game, the more valuable this acquisition becomes for Liverpool. His abilities in the final third—be it from a shooting, movement, or one-on-one composure standpoint—are borderline-unrivalled (at his age) and arrive on Merseyside unquestioned, but his all-round game has been an unknown quantity for years. Solanke found the transition from Chelsea youth to Vitesse tough in places, but it's arguable the rough and tumble of the Premier League was always going to suit him better. He needs chances, though, and given Jerome Sinclair left Liverpool last summer in search of that exact commodity, this is a similarly bold step for the striker to take, albeit for different reasons. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2712993-scouting-notebook-liverpools-dominic-solanke-proving-hes-more-than-a-finisher@jotey @Mujtahida @bolded explained better his roles and why Klop dey die to sign am. As for S. Moses, I am not seeing the FORM you are saying.
Thank God, God's willing we'll all get to watch next weekend fixture against SA(Atleast DStv will show this one). I have seen Iwobi on the left flank but he didn't impress me. Iwobi is no 10. If he doesn't play no 10, he should sidon for bench. He will not be missed. Thank you. |

Icon4s: First of all, I want you to name those 'better players' that have not yet been invited and We would gladly recommend them to Rohr and his coaching crew if truly they are better than the player(s) you want them to replace.
Concerning the issue of replacement are you telling me that for the current Eagles team we don't have at least 2 or 3 players per position?
Victor Moses, Leon Balogun and Mikel Obi who are 3 regulars are out and we are not even crying over it because we have capable replacements.
Also that team is so dynamic such that most of those players are capable of playing at least 2 positions. Any of Etebo, Iwobi, Moses, Musa, Success, Simon, Onyekuru can play each other's positions fairly comfortably. Injury to any 2 or 3 and we still have a pool to pick replacements from. Our midfield boast of Mikel, Onazi, Ndidi, Shehu, Agu, Ogu and sometimes Etebo. What of the defense? Even in Balogun's absence we still have 3 good CBs in Ekong, Omeruo and Awaziem. Recall also that Ndidi can also play CB. Echiejile, Shehu, Ebuehi, Madu and the newly invited Yousef are there as wing backs.
I am not saying this team is there yet but the fact remains that we are gradually getting there.
If there is any player the coaches feel can add quality to the team they will invite.
And if your favorite players are not there,of which I know is the main reason for this your clamour for back ups, let them keep working hard they may get their chances one day. Of course, you know most of them are players of Nigerian origin Abroad. Oga! Shehu Abdullahi, Ikechuckwu Ezenwa, Victor Osimhen, Ibrahim Alhassan, Noah(an injured player) etc should not have been called ahead of some players in Europe, both for the friendly and AFCON. Why are the coaching crew doing selective selection? I thought friendlies are meant to give some boys opportunity to show themselves. Why bring the ones you can easily dispose and no one go raise eyebrow. When competition come na dat time go clear. Enough said. They keep working while you bring bench warmers to gain status, ba. I am very much aware of the antics behind team selection. Which players be even my players self? |

Perhaps, is poor defending costs him that position. As you said, he fumbled against Zambia hence the need to play him at the RB. If Aweriem performs better than him in camp, he should go and sidon for corner. Experience should be used when we are talking about a player with class and not one below average player. komekn: That's an assumption without track record justification.
If Rohr likes him he plays full stop even if he plays in Wales ranked number 50 in Europes.
If Osimhen after playing 10 minutes of football in a team at the bottom of Bundesliga can be invited. Then structureed selection methodology doesn't exist and subjectivity has overcome objectivity.
Then again some may say the end justifies the means. Long term that does not inspire players to play for the SE if it is perceived that objectivity and performance are not the main consideration. Is it difficult for people to understand what you are saying? There seems to be some magogo in the team selections. If he is playing regularly or if he is a bench warmer of bigger clubs that I can understand but calling Osimhen na arrange. I have begining to understand how selection plays. They call their preferred player even if na bench warmer and bring him to the National team to increace their stock while they ignore the inform players until their club throway dem because of lack of market value of the said player. The club expects you to be called to the national team to increase your stock and sell you for a big prize but no coach looks ya way hence the need to kick you out for a more valuable player. I can mention plenty players in the National team that were nothing before their stock were raised as a result of being a National team player. Icon4s: Better replacement for each position?
As if you replace players as easily as you replace bed sheets on your bed.
You think if we have players better than Iheanacho, Moses, Iwobi, Ndidi, Mikel, Echiejile, Etebo, Balogun, Omeruo, Ekong any where in the world we will not field them?
You think the coaching crew are not interested in improving the standards of the team?
What do you think team building is all about? You wake up and overhaul a whole team when you have crucial matches all because you are searching for better players?
As far as I am concerned I will give this current coaching crew Excellent in terms of scouting for players for the national team. We had crucial games against Zambia and Algeria that could not be toiled with. With the little time he had after his appointment he maximised the established potentials in the team and came out tops.
We organized a friendly against Senegal of which a couple of players had their debutes.
We organized a France camp and so many untested players were featured in the two friendlies. I am sure from the 3 games we have played this year the coaching crew has assessed a lot of these players and know which ones are ready for the Super Eagles.
Forgiveness I dare you to mention any player or players playing in any league(s) in this Universe that are better than the ones Rohr is likely to start against South Africa. Of course, there are better players but that is not my point. My point is centered on replacements or backups. Remember, when Emmanuel Amunike and Daniel Amokachi (cant remember) were tactically removed by the Italians at the 1994 World cup, the team crumbled. When Taiwo and Sanni were removed at Japan/korea world cup the team also crumbled. When mikel got injured before the 2010 world cup the team pafuka. When Onazi was removed at the Brazil 2014 world cup France destroyed the team. For this reason, I am clamouring for quality replacement or backups for each postions. if Ekoog wound who go replace am? if Ndid wound who go replace am? if iwobi and Etebor wound at the same time in a competitive position who go replace them? Abi you never witness where two key players got injured at the same time? You dont need to go far, just recall Japan/Korea and USA 1994. |
