There has been so much talk and debate in the polity regarding the forthcoming presidential election which has Goodluck Jonathan of the People's Democratic Party and Munammadu Buhari of the All progressives Congress as the main contenders. I intend to take an opinion poll of who you think will win this election and here are the rules:

1. Please vote only once. This is because I would like the result of this poll to be somewhat representative of the forthcoming election result. If you decide to vote more than once, I leave you to your conscience.

2. Nairalanders who are based abroad and who do not intend to participate in the electoral process need not vote. This is in line with the reason tendered in (1) above which is to make the result of this opinion poll as close as possible to the actual result of the electorate. This is not a popularity poll. I am trying to simulate a real life election here.

3. If you are not up to 18 years of age as of end of January 2015, you are not eligible to vote.

4. If you are not a registered voter, you are also not eligible to vote because you will not be able to vote in February anyways. Further, you taking part in this poll will only undermine the accuraccy of the outcome of this poll.

ATROCITIES OF BUHARI

1. He Is A Hypocrite And Sanctimonious: Buhari is a self-acclaimed anti-corruption Czar, yet he served under late Sani Abacha without complaining of corruption. In the same period Buhari served as PTF Chairman under Abacha, Nigeria was named the 2nd most corrupt country in the world in 1996 by Transparency International; the most corrupt country in 1997 and 3rdmost country in 1998. Buhari didn’t resign or protest. He dismissed the TI Report with a wave of the hand. Can he do the same if such report says Nigeria is the most corrupt country in 2014? I know that Buhari would protest and call President Jonathan names.

Buhari as a man of integrity as he claims should have done what Tai Solarin, Duro Onabule and Ebitu Ukiwe did under IBB’s regime. IBB’s attempt to take Nigeria into the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) made his Chief of General Staff, Ebitu Ukiwe to resign. Ukiwe maintained that Nigeria, as a country, should not be a member of a religious organisation. Individual organisation can take up membership of religious organisations, but not the country. IBB made Tai Solarin the chairman of Peoples Bank with no fund and power to run it; he resigned and tendered his apology to Nigerians.
Buhari has not apologized to Nigerians for working for the most corrupt govt in the world then, but he still maintains that Abacha didn’t loot Nigeria dry even as Abacah loots are still being sent back to Nigeria.

When he took over power by the gun, he supported rigging because it favoured him. But now, he is shouting of rigging. Hear him:
“The last general election was anything but free and fair. The only political parties that could complain of election rigging are those parties that lacked the resources to rig.” – M. Buhari (First Speech after Military Coup, 31 December, 1983)

2. He Is A Religious Fanatic And Extremist: Buhari believes that his religion is superior to other religions and that Koran supersedes our constitution. In 2001, he gave his total support for Sharia with this statement:

“I will continue to show openly and inside me the total commitment to the Sharia movement that is sweeping all over Nigeria. God willing, we will not stop the agitation for the total implementation of the Sharia in the country.”- M. Buhari (August 27, 2001)

He made the above statement after he had gone to BBC Hausa Service to condemn the then Vice President, Atiku Abubakar for urging Muslims states who adopted Sharia to return to the status quo.

If you think that these statements mean nothing, then envision what would happen if a notable Christian political leader from the south make the same statement about spreading Christianity across Nigeria.

Prior to the 2003 elections, he made another shocking statement:
“Muslims should only vote those who will promote Islam. We are more than the Christians if you add our Muslim brothers in the West.”- M. Buhari (2003)

3. He Introduced Kidnapping And Smuggling Into The Nigeria System:The story of Umaru Dikko is already well known that repeating it here amounts to tautology. However, Buhari and his ADC Col. Mustapha Jokolosupervised the smuggling of 53 suitcases filled with cash against the protests of Tunde Idiagbon and ironically, Abubakar Atiku (an APC bigwig), was the former DG of Customs. Do you still need to know why Buhari has never accused Atiku of being corrupt?

4. He Is Not A Man of His Words: Buhari cried in public and said he won’t contest elections again, yet couldn’t keep his words:
“This campaign is the third and last one for me; since, after it, I will not present myself again for election into office of the president.” – M. Buhari (April, 2011 at the Int’l Conference Centre, Abuja)

Then again in 2014, he swallowed his words with this:

“I humbly present myself to all Nigerians and to God, seeking to be elected as APC’s presidential candidate.” – M. Buhari (Oct., 15, 2014 Eagle Square Abuja)
5. He Is An Ethnic Bigot Who Thinks That Vendetta Is Fighting Corruption: After Buhari and his boys overthrew the govt of Shagari with the sole reason that the govt was highly corrupt, he locked up Dr. Alex Ekwueme – the then VP in Kirikiri maximum prison but left Shagari – the president and Head of govt in his mansion. Ekwueme was tried by the tribunal set-up by Buhari and the tribunal declared that he was even poorer than he was before he came into office. Yet, Buhari jailed him and allowed Shagari to relax in his mansion.

He gave Dede Sam Mbakwe 100-year jail term for stealing nothing and also went after his wife. Ambrose Ali was tried for an undeveloped plot of land and he was jailed for 75 years with heavy torture that led to blindness and later death. Jim Nwobodo and Lateef Jakande were jailed for 100 years for stealing nothing. Adekunle Ajasin was tried by a military tribunal and found innocent. Buhari ordered a fresh trial, he was found innocent again. Buhari changed the tribunal and tried him again. He was still found innocent. Buhari still jailed him. But, Buhari left his personal friend – Awwal Ibrahim – the then highly corrupt governor of Niger State who was arrested at Heathrow airport with £14 million. Awwal was never jailed. He was placed under house arrest in his mansion like Shagari for just two weeks and indeed released.

6. He Is A Coupist: Buhari has no moral ground to stand for an election in Nigeria because he’s a destroyer of democracy and can never benefit from it. He overthrew a duly elected govt and ruled illegitimately until he was kicked out. For those that claim he was invited, go read the recent interview by Chief Ebenezer Babatope on why Chief Solomon Lar was imprisoned by Buhari.

7. He Doesn’t Talk or Act Like An Elder-statesman: He makes provocative statements that are capable of putting the country in crisis. This attitude caused the death of over 800 innocent lives including about 10 Corp members after he lost the 2011 elections. A man who considers himself as an elder-statesman and wants to rule Nigeria again should not be talking this way:

“God willing, by 2015, something will happen. They either conduct a free and fair election or they go a very disgraceful way. If what happened in 2011 should again happen in 2015, by the grace of God, the dog and baboon would all be soaked in blood.” – M. Buhari

“2015 will be bloody…” – M. Buhari

Buhari snubbed the same Nigerians he now wants their votes by refusing to appear before Justice Oputa Truth and Reconciliation Panel. Buhari knew how important reconciliation is to the stability of democracy, yet he refused to appear before the panel.

8. He Cannot Formulate A Good Economic Policy: True to that, Buhari is the only former Head of State without a legacy. Not even one, despite ruling with iron-fist for 2 years. Someone said, Environmental sanitation is his legacy LOL and I ask, how has that improved our economy? Or is Nigeria now the cleanest country in the world with a booming tourism industry? And again, those that attended his declaration were disappointed as he couldn’t present a manifesto on how he can solve the numerous problems confronting Nigeria. We keep hearing from the Buharists: “I will fight corruption; I will stop corruption; I will end corruption.” How? By mouth? Recall what BBC said about Buhari’s economic policy: “Buhari’s attempts to re-balance public finances by curbing imports led to many job losses and the closure of businesses. These losses were accompanied by a rise in prices and a decline in living standards.” His economic policy started the devaluation of naira. During Shagari/Ekweme’s regime, $1 = N0.550 but before the end of his tenure in 1985, $1 = N0.894.

9. He Clamped Down On The Press: With the infamous Decree 4, he closed down Newspapers, arrested and jailed many journalists such as Ndukar Irabor and Tunde Thompson of the Guardian Newspaper on stories that were factual. He told the Nigerian journalists then that it did not matter whether the story reported was true or not, if his regime did not like it, the writer would go to jail.
At a point Tai Solarin became the only voice who could speak as he stood at the road corner and was distributing leaflets detailing the various atrocities of Buhari. He arrested and jailed him. In prison, he was denied his asthmatic drug. He was released by IBB and later died of complication from the torture he suffered in prison.

10. He Is Not A Man of Principle And Integrity: Since 2003, Buhari has been jumping from one party to another in his desperate and endless quest to rule Nigeria. He started with ANPP in 2003 to CPC in 2011 and, now in APC. He might abandon APC for another party if they deny him ticket.

I hardly comment on Nairaland these days but I just had to comment in this grand display of folly by you.

1. Even Yardua acknowledged publicly that the election that brought him to office was flawed. Why didn't Jonathan resign as the Vice President? Beside, Buhari only stated facts about that pseudo election. How did that benefit him?

2. Let us assume for the purpose of this arguement, that he truly made those comments. Do you think he hasn't learnt his lessons now? Having contested and lost the elections on three different counts? Even if we assume that he hasn't learnt his lessons, how in hell can he implement sharia nationwide in a democratic dispensation? The Sharia he couldn't implement as a dictator?

3. I disregard the 53000 suitcases bullsheet on the grounds that the allegation is baseless. But I support the modality employed in trying to make Umoru Dikko face justice. This was an idio.t that said that Nigeria n's weren't hungry because we hadn't started eating from refuse dumps. If he knew that his comments and conducts were justified, why did he flee the country when Buhair seized power? I believe in accountability. Let people be responsible for their actions. And if they are too cowardly to do so, then we make them. By hook or by crook.

4. Jonathan promised us stable power supply by April 2011. With abundant evidence on ground, I guess he is a man of his words right? LMAO.

5. Buhari may have been selective in fighting corruption as you alleged. Obasanjo was also selective in his fight against corruption. And you know what mate? I prefer selective fight against corruption like Buhari and Obasanjo did to having no fight AT ALL like Jonathan is doing. I really think the dude should rechristen himself to Goodluck Corruption Jonathan.

6. Hey dude. Are we talking morals here? Really now? Really? In this case my sole reference shall be the Nigeria Constitution. Does the constitution permit him to contest? If no, then INEC should do the needful immediately. But if yes, you really need to shut your trap.

7. As for the reconciliation panel. To the best of my knowledge, he wasn't the only ex head of state that was summoned. And I can't recall any of them honouring the invite. I stand corrected tho. As for the comments, you need to advise POP to honor and respect the wishes of the Nigerian people. Let them play fair. This is what Buhari was asking for. Only issue is that his choice of words were devoid of tact.

8.LMAO. Pray tell what legacy Jonathan has laid in 6 years. Also please calculate the percentage change in exchange rates you quoted and compare with exchange rate in Jonathan regime from 2012 to 2014 and feed the house back.

9. Dude you can't compare military regime VS democracy. You think when he assumes office in May, he will be able to commit all those atrocities you listed up there?

10. His freedom of association is expressly guaranteed under the constitution. So he is free to join a thousand parties if he so desires. That has got nothing to do with principle. You may rewrite the constitution if you disagree.

Really numerous farmers have benefited, I myself benefited a lot from Mr. President ATA. Agricultural Transformation Agenda. Millions of farmers across the federation were registered and e wallets allocated to them. Through the e-wallets they have been accessing farm inputs at highly subsidized rates for the past three years. The transformation takes care of maize, rice, cassava, cocoa, cotton, oilpalm production, livestock production, fisheries and agro processing. Thanks to President Jonathan. Thanks to the Hon. Minister of Agric... Dr. Akinwumi Adesina Ishola. Now we are getting to self sufficiency in rice production, and this has been reducing almost N1billion daily on rice importation. If such billion is getting to the youths, it will go a long way to create wealth and reduce poverty in the land

At present farm production is on increase in both crops and livestock. The only problem we have now is glut in the markets and falling prices associated with some agricultural produce, esp cassava. Now in my place farmers don't breakeven this year on cassava production. imagine the price falling down to N3000/ton from N20,000/ton. The price fall is as a result of sudden increase in production above the quantity being consumed. The government should work towards increasing the numbers of processing companies and value addition to farm products.

Look this things are no rocket science the questions most important to ask is as Nigerians, are our lives better after 4years of pdp/GEJ ticket? The fact is we have not given GEJ a score card but his people have forced score cards down our throat via the media. Do we have electricity? What is the state of security? Are our youths empowered with jobs? Have we lived better lives since 2011? Is there still oil theft? Is there wide spread corruption? These are questions that should influence our decision for continuity or change, since 1960 we keep majoring on the minor and minoring on the major. Some of the funny things this government does is their escalation of MOUs, well MOUs don't equal built industries or power plants or other forms of development its a mere piece of paper more than 3/4 of them don't materialise. Thats not to say they have done something, the you win policy is a good one I just wished they had partnered with private sector as form of CSO thereby making it real big, the automotive policy too is a good One but they have to compel Nigerians to buy these cars more and not just government agencies, the rice processing a big plus too and some other few

The question is are these achievement a mere drop of water in a possibility of streams of water?
Has the development of the GEJ administration been comesurate with the resources at its disposal?
Have their policies been people centred?
Have they been able to reach the populace of Nigeria?

Let the answers to important questions judge our decision come 12 February 2015

I just decided to come back and officially announce my exit from this thread and my intended non- participation in future threads. Everything that has a beginning must surely have an end. It has been quite some journey. It started with BB Amplified thru to BB Stargame, to BB The Chase and finally BB Hotshot.

I have immensely enjoyed season after season after season on here. However, the Holy Bible says in the book of Ecclesiastes 'To every thing, there is a season and a time to every purpose under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die; a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted...' which I have extended to 'A time to be part of the Big Brother Nairaland family, and a time to move on.' It is on this premise that I confirm that I will not be a part of the Big Brother thread next year. If there will be a Big Brother that is. Given the uproar against the regionalism based voting pattern. But please permit me to drop by once in a loooooong while to throw jabs at anyone of interest.

I would like to thank everyone I have had any form of encounter with on the BB threads no matter how minute. Beginning with the BB Amplified thread and most especially BB The chase and The Hotshot. I appreciate yall for putting up with my bullsheet. I appreciate those I have learnt from. I appreciate those that I have fought with. I appreciate those that have given me shouts at some point or the other. I dont want to recount memories cos that will bring tears to my eyes knowing that I will be missing out next season but truth is, I feel a pressing need to take a back seat and watch the younger and more able ones run the show from next season and forward. The Holy Bible says again 'Old things shall pass away and behold, all things shall become new.'

Finally as I bid yall farewell, I pray that the Almighty God be with every single member of the Big Brother Nairaland family. May He protect yall from all kinds of evil and may He grant every one long life, good health and prosperity. Amen.
