CareerRe: Please Help! My Boss Is Scared I Will Replace Her by Forward1(m): 9:49am On Sep 04, 2015
Nnaeb:
Dear JobTrends,

I am facing a very difficult time at my workplace. I landed a job fourteen months ago and the first eight months were the honeymoon period. My boss loved everything I did. I walked around feeling on top of the world. I was very innovative.

First I replaced our outdated newsletter publishing platform with a new one that is faster, cheaper and much easier to use. I cleaned out our newsletter subscriber database and used social media tools to double our newsletter subscription list.

Then I started including fun little quizzes and community discussion topics on our site and our newsletter. Our sales increased by fifteen percent. I created a “Get Started” kit for new customers. I’ve never had as much fun on a job as I had in my first eight or nine months here. Then things started to get ugly.

My boss said “You’ve made your point. Give the new ideas a break.” I was completely shocked. I thought my boss who happens to be of an opposite sex, the Head of Marketing, would want to keep moving forward fast. I thought that my new ideas would make my boss happy and they did at first, but then she said “e don do.”

I have a dozen more ideas ready to implement. The salespeople have asked me for an online customer training that they can use when they visit new customers.

Now I don’t know how to prove my value or even how to get through the day. I can’t even answer sales and customer requests intelligently because I can’t say “That’s a great suggestion, and we are working on implementing it.” I can’t say that because it isn’t true!

I haven’t spent a dime on my marketing initiatives. The only expense to the company is my salary which is not that big. I replaced a person who was paid a lot more than I get paid, because I heard it from the salespeople who were very dissatisfied with my predecessor, kemi.

Please I need your advice, what should I do? I’m completely frustrated. Can I get my boss, to let me keep doing my job or do I have to leave my job after less than a year and a half knowing how unfriendly the labor market is?

Thanks,

Christopher

firstly, you have to understand the fact that you & ur boss are both employees in an organisation.
Secondly, you're not working directly with d owner of the organisation. Its only the owner(ceo) that can fully appreciate ur ideas because he wants the advancement of his business.
Lastly, ur boss will never be comfortable with ur ideas when she has a superior that knows the source of the ideas(from u). Her job may be on d line.
In conclusion, never outshine ur master. Relate ur ideas to her before any other person gets to knw.

Note: keep being innovative, you may have to work for me soon.

[quote author=koboko69 post=37629225]Wailers,
Enough of the wailing and the twisting of articles just to underrate this administration.
In the heat of any campaign many "groups of interests" spring up all manner of things to show alliance and solidarity to which ever party they support. It is unreasonable to assume that the President is aware of every thing anyone publishes on behalf of the campaign team.
Same way Jonathan claimed ingnorance of the #bringbackjonathan2015 slogan and bill boards but not until after public condemnation from both Nigerians and the International community. The same scenerio applies to the 1 meal per kid bill board ehich u guys are still wailing about.

Its time to suspend the wailing and support this Government because if this government fails ordinary citizens like you are the biggest loosers. JONATHAN LOST AND HAS MOVED ON!!!!![/quote

CareerAs A Young Graduate; Never Pick Up A Job At LG Council. by Forward1(op): 7:10pm On Jul 30, 2015
I was at a local government secretariat today in ondo state for a business purpose. On getting there i saw young Nigerians wasting away precious time, i saw idleness & laziness at the highest level (i can't survive in such an environment). The only reason that should make a young graduate pick up a job at LG secretariat is when he/she has entrepreneurial drive.

If I were him I would finish my program and try to gain some experience in the US while also securing my residency. I strongly believe in giving yourself options as you don't know what can happen in the future.

After a few years of experience he can always get a better paying job in Nigeria and also knows if it comes to the worse he can always return to the US.

It also depends on what he wants as well I guess. I enjoy the lifestyle in the US. yes there are some things I miss about Nigeria, but overall I enjoy the lifestyle here better. Not everyone will e.g. my cousin loves the naija life with owanbe etc and i don't. We're different.

For example there was a thread yesterday about riding bicycles to work and how some people were saying you can't do that in Nigeria because it is not safe but also because people will look down on you, but I love being able to cycle to work and not have anyone look down on me or make assumptions.

The way I see it I will revise and make the best decisions for me and my family based on the opportunities available and lifestyle choices and not because I must be in Nigeria. IF at a certain point being in Nigeria makes more sense then we will consider, but at this point being in the US makes more sense.
hmmm.... I guess I'll do same as outlined by you but i'll sure return to Nig after getting residency and having my kids. I love the part where you make mention of "giving yourself options". Nice one

Well you are right he has entertained the thought.

I think he has been given different advice here so it's up to the poster to decide which suits him better.
yeah, only him can decide. If i may ask; if you were in his shoe what would you have done? Be candid.

Even If he plans to settle in Nigeria, the right time still is not now as it makes no sense abandoning his program with 6 months to go and also he may as well get his residency as back up.

You need options in life
i understand ur point of view but i provided an alternative in my advice... And for him to have given the offer in Nig a thought means he can do away with the programme.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: An Urgent Decision On A Job Offer by Forward1(m): 9:42am On Jul 30, 2015
The decision is very simple to make. If you desire to relocate or settling in Nigeria someday; the right time is now since you've gotten a platform to do that. I'll advice not to bother yourself with the current economic situation (no economy is stable). On the otherhand, if you don't desire settling in Nigeria then forget about the 250k offer (you'll get something worthwhile in the US after ur programme). Don't take decision base on any economy situation anywhere. Some persons with less of your exposure & educational qualification are living like kings & queens in Nig while some persons with more of your exposure & educational qualifications are living like slaves in the US. GRACE IS EVERYTHING. (brevity is the soul of wit)
