GeneralDae: Egypt's debt is crazy mehn and mostly foreign debt. What were they thinking? They are lucky they also get huge support from Saudi Arabia.
Kenya also have no access to the capital market from this report.
This debt thing is just like a trap especially when revenues are not high. The US will bail them out cos of the Suez canal |

Shma2022: I just checked your fertilizer plant, it's a mere $2.2B project, so relax. Its not worth that hype. Nairobi--- Mombasa expressway is $3B. With our paltry $114B economy, we are doing great stuff. Dangote refinery is a pipe dream. It will never work. That is a loss vending entity. But don't get me wrong, I want it to work, that's my wish.
Dude, focus. We're not talking about the past. Don't be too over-defensive. The bone of contention is PROJECTS ONGOING and not what I have and what you don't. Don't always bring your childish antics into all spheres of serious discussions. And yes, $5.5B is worth that fertilizer plant and two light rails combined. ($2.2B + $1.2B + $ 1.2B =$4.6B)... From your list, 3 Nigerian projects have been swallowed by one Kenyan project.
I forgot your $470million Lagos light rail. We can build seven of them if we scrape off the $3B Nairobi Mombasa expressway. So, ($2.2B + $1.2B + $ 1.2B +$0.4B =$5.1B) That is 4 listed projects under one. Is it you that will make the refinery not to work? |

By the time we also start exporting electric buses and vehicles to African countries nearby, or we start exporting other manufactured equipments from Proforce, Nord, Innoson, and the likes, many would also ask: "When did we start manufacturing these things"? rvp20182: I have my doubt of scrapped vessels and special purpose ships data - otherwise it clear Nigeria main exports are natural resources - that have least multiplier - and ability to lift people out of poverty.
Kenya is doing well in horticulture - with multiplier as good as manufacturing - IT enabled services (outsourcing), tourism - that have huge potentially to transform the economy. This should be the focus - the high value agriculture (avacados earn Mexico 12billion dollars), IT-enabled outsourcing system- exports as good as selling machine abroad- (digital economy with investment in fiber all over the country) - tourism - high value services - as traditional manufacturing is a mountain to climb for now
That is why Kenya has been pulling economic growth almost non stop for 20yrs - while Nigeria is struggling - 10yrs of recession and now even with Oil at it peak - it appears the anemic growth rate will continue.
When this kenya v Nigeria started - somewhere in 2014/2015 - Kenya economy was barely 40B - Nigeria was 500B. Now Kenya economy has climbed - this year could be 120B - Nigeria economy osciallate btw 400-500B for a decade - and if they devalue the Naira - it will drop to even 200B.
Nigeria economy need serious re-configuration - that ought to start with fixing education sector - otherwise I dont see much hope - with pre-mature urbanization (at 50 percent) - endemic poverty in slumpolis - and total collapse of basic infrastructure (electricity is now a miracle)
In the meantime kenya economy is transforming - and in a decade - will have caught up with Nigeria and South Africa - who are mark timming btw 350-500B - depending on USD. Both have had a lost decade. When it comes to IT outsourcing, Nigeria is tops in Africa. |

GeneralDae: Nigeria's top ten exports 2021
1)Mineral fuels including oil: US$42.4 billion (89.1% of total exports) 2)Ships, boats: $1.4 billion (3%) 3)Fertilizers: $949.8 million (2%) 4)Cocoa: $628.8 million (1.3%) 5)Oil seeds: $326.2 million (0.7%) 6)Zinc: $258.8 million (0.5%) 7)Aluminum: $190.3 million (0.4%) 8 Aircraft, spacecraft: $143.7 million (0.3%) 9)Tobacco, manufactured substitutes: $112.8 million (0.2%) 10)Lead: $94.1 million (0.2%) I'm curious, when did we start manufacturing special purpose ships, and Aircrafts?? For exports |

rvp2018: what are they producing outside natural resources n weapons.. Germany is an exporting behemoth ...with I bet export value greater than it's gdp..all using cheap Russian gas n oil.Sanctions no longer works because Russia is always on one...as they are always on agression to fix USSR borders that they feel took Russian territorial integrity so almost every two or three years they are attacking their neighbors and trying to seize more territory..like 10 percent of the earth isn't enough for them That myth of economies not strong because they don't export manufactured goods needs to stop. Russia has a huge population so obviously manufactured products already have demand in the country before they can export. That's why the sanctions didn't work. You can watch any Russia English speaking youtuber, talking about how Russian made products quickly replaced everything else |

PROVERBZ: Accomodations for dangote refinery which is at 97percent completions
Guys anytime I search dangote refinery or the lekki free zone I see videos in Hindi explaining how to get jobs in Nigeria to Indians.
Hundreds and thousands more Indians are preparing to move to Lagos and this bothers me. It's not because I'm racist or hate multi ethnic society no. It's cuz it's really early in out success story, its the period where people make generational wealth and those people moving here now would put them on equal playing ground with the black people that have lived here during the hard times. And when Nigeria does get better it would look like Kenya and south Africa where white people and Indians own most of the riches.
I'll rather they come later in search of greener pasture. Indians really want to take our scarce high paying jobs Though I'll not worry about them too much cos of the local content law. I think those looking for accommodation are the ones doing the manufacturing of the plant. The actual running of the plant will have at least 50 percent locals |

rvp2018: They were short of 1B dollars after selling 20% stake to NNPC for 2.5B dollars. They split into two bonds. One has been issued and was oversubscribed locally - I believe they raised maybe 500M dollars. They will probably float the other soon as 1st was oversubscried. It will get done early or late next year as there is goodwill from gov and private sector - and they have A++ credit rating - with Dangote willing to put his cements and other plants as collateral.
The project overrun is crazy. I dont know if it's Indians? but from 12 to 19B - dollars that is huge. And that is what Nigeria consumers will have to pay back - 20B dollars. That cost hike and much of the delay was due to covid. Also why do you make it seem like Dangote is eager to recoup his capital, a refinery doesn't work that way, the refinery will sell shares on the stock exchange for quick recovery of funds if necessary, at the end of the day it could take up to 10 years before Dangote gets his capital fully. But after that it would be easy profit for him so don't worry about Nigerians paying him back for now |

obaaderemi: What he has done is to turn the Rwandans to zombies who can not challenge his government on anything. Such a country can not progress. The only reason he has not turned Rwanda to a communist enclave is the fear of his friends in the West. I disagree with you on this, take China for example, their communist party is the only party, they are also a suppressive regime but their country is far more developed than a democratic country like say Canada. A suppressive regime isn't bad if the government knows what they're doing |

Just40: Ghanaian chocolate manufacturer, Niche Cocoa has opened a manufacturing plant in USA. It also has another huge manufacturing plant in Germany The cocoa processing company's headquarters is in Tema, Ghana.
The project is the largest African food and beverage investment in US history. Misplaced priorities, too bad cos those billions if could have been invested in other African countries with cheap labour, it would have made the company more money and also it would have created more jobs on the continent, the US already has plenty of jobs |

rvp2018: I am never hateful First you are not meeting your OPEC quotas. 2ndly you will lose forex when some crude is diverted from export to Dangote. Right now you're doing 1.3-1.5M bpd - if Dangote takes 650,000 - you will have to reduce export by half.
Now two scenarios 1) You increase oil production - meet OPEC and then have more for Dangote - then you will BENEFIT 2) You dont - you only benefit from value addition of refining crude - that about a billion dollars - which Dangote is keen to capture.
Prospect of increasing oil production are remote - you're dropping in year when oil is at 140 dollars per barrel - meaning you have big problems You keep talking about us loosing Forex, while forgetting that we are loosing Forex already by importing refined oil |
