Programming › My First Day With Node Js (I Made My Own Database System) by Fourpockets(op): 11:31am On Sep 28, 2022*. Modified: 12:19pm On Nov 09, 2024 |
I decided to try out node after getting bored from frontend and decided to see how backend works fully. So I went through w3schools and node is docs then I started playing with the server module to send APIs. I then had a thought, when I end my server, all the JSON objects I send to my server to store in an array wouldn't save. I also couldn't find a built in module in node for local storage so I came up with my own custom database . It's not a database they you can use o, except you copy the code, it's just something I wanted to try to see if it's possible It works like this: The database is a JSON file with an empty array at first, I then read the file with the built-in file system module, parse the JSON file, when the post request comes in, I'll push it into the new js array, then I'll stringify it and write(overwrite) the existing empty array using the write file method from the file system module. Here is the link to the code, I actually forgot to comment in the files |

Osariemen12: Stop trying to make Nigeria look perfect in the eyes of other Africans when we have numerous problems to fix. It's not in our own interest to pretend as if we are the best. What he said concerning insecurity on our highways is nothing but the truth. Outside this, national grid collapsed on Sunday leaving many states without power even now; it's not as if we had power before now. At least 583 out of the 774 local government councils in Nigeria are still without electricity. No Nigerian town, we don't have a place qualified to be called a city in the first place, has pipe borne water supplied by the water board. Individuals provide water for their household uses and those who can't afford to do so pay fellow poor Nigerians from the north who walk far distance to fetch water for them or do so themselves. 80% of my fellow Nigerians still do open defecation, particularly in southwest.
Our education system is in shambles. Lecturers are on strike even as I type with students involving themselves in different types of legal and illegal businesses and adventures. Our internet connections are the worst in Africa not because of the number of users but the available broadband which is not enough for one state is spread across 36 states and the federal capital territory. Our life expectancy as Nigerians is among, if not exactly, the lowest in Africa. Reason the dream of every Nigerian is to leave his country and celebrates when he does so. If you are a Nigerian you probably don't live in Nigeria now, just like I am typing from Abidjan as a Nigerian. Every none Nigerian on this thread will certainly affirm that Nigerian migrants to his country are the largest among African countries. Should I write on the poverty rate in Nigeria, especially the north? Hell no! What of out of school children? Internally displaced persons? Beggars who dot the streets and entrances of major shopping and religious centres? Kidnapping spree? Banditry? Prostitution among our poor women? Sport betting as the only job for the ever-growing youths? Thuggery and touting? The list is endless.
Why I am not in anyway trying to demarket Nigeria as my country, it is better we stop trying to place ourselves where we don't belong as a nation. We are among the worst. War torn Somalia might be better than Nigeria of today. At least I've been to many other African countries and none of them live the miserable lives obtainable in Nigeria. Even the person that made comments of Kenyans being behind Nigeria in everything is either living abroad or living in Nigeria as a politician. Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire, Gambia, Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, Angola, Cameroon, Gabon, Zambia, Rwanda, etc are far ahead of us. Their past in economy, education, life expectancy, mortality rate, vaccinations, security expertise, power, housing, road networks, internet connection, among others, is our future. A distant future at that.
Below is a typical school setting in my country. This post seems misleading |

If the road is still as dangerous as it was before, you wouldn't see that number of cars there. People use the Abuja Kaduna road all the time. Let us be guided.
Also, in this thread we lay things bare.If you read my posts and that of the likes of Obaderemi or theenchanter, you would also see our criticisms of Nigeria.

jbreezy: So I asked for people’s advice on going for a senior FE role in this topic https://www.nairaland.com/7349413/got-invited-senior-frontend-developer . So I went for it and thought it would be fair to give you all feedback. So I got there, 5 minutes before the asserted time. A cozy and beautiful environment. To cut the story short, I was given a laptop and was asked to open the technical assessment test session where I was asked to consume an API from an endpoint, which was restricted by CORS. Then build a table and spread informations from the database across it. The api was paginated, so I have to make it 10 number of users per page. Add a button to navigate through the pages. Add a working search input too. Easy pizzy right? 1hr 30mins was the time given. But unfortunately, they said the UI should be styled with Ant Design which I wasn’t familiar with. So I styled it with just Vanilla CSS. And then, I was later told it’s going to be fully on-site. Omo, that one off me small. But let’s see how it goes, maybe the pay may attract me, if they fortunately get back to me. But thanks to y’all for the advice. I feel so fulfilled to go. Congratulations, although it seems for a senior easy I won't lie. |

chukwuebuka65: In my last project , the social media app I built. I wanted to select the number of comments that a post has while getting the posts from the database at once using eager loading. I was able to implement it on my local machine using “sequelize.literal” method of the sequelize ORM , but when I deployed it , I was getting an error , “comment.postid not found”. I tried to fixed it , browsed through the whole pages on stackoverflow ( not really all the pages ) , yet no show. So I decided to leave out the feature. But I was loosing sleep over it. Think about it , while browsing through posts in a social media app, if a post has comments, users should see the number of comments, when they now click the posts, they can then see the comments. So yesterday, I decided to give it one more shot. I found a blog post that suggested using “sequelize.fn” method. So I tried it, and the error was gone, I landed into another error, something in the line of “group by “ and “aggregate functions”. I had to go and read about aggregate functions. Long story short, I was able to get it to work, went and took a bottle of beer to congratulate myself. So my question is, is it advisable to abandon a feature you want to implement or a whole project entirely because because something is not working ? Or do continue to search for the solution until you find it before moving to the next project?
Link to the app: https://luppi-react.herokuapp.com Yes, I remember one game I was working on a while back. Also my second to last react project, I didn't implement local storage functionality cos I was getting errors, though it was just supposed to be an added feature I wanted to do that's why I abandoned it |

rvp20182: The whole idea of building proper highways is to deal with insecurity and expense - otherwise if I want to ship my tea from Kericho to Abuja - I would have to now track or rail it 800kms to Mombasa...have it go round Africa to Lagos port...then all the way on road to Abuja. That is a month at best. But now if there was a road...I would just drive for 5,000kms...that is 5 days of driving...if I drive 1000kms every day...on good proper expressway...this should be vision of Africa...major highways and rail lines. In developed world - trucks are driven from london to germany...from Toronto to Los Angeles...4,000kms in 2-3 days - one should one day drive from Abuja to Nairobi in 2-3 days.. Nice explanation. Although I still think security wise, it won't be that easy. I don't know about other African countries, but a lot of inter state roads in Nigeria are not that safe. Kidnappers regularly operate on those roads |

LocalStandard1: My biggest head ache now is getting vs code to run all these languages without complications. If you know a better IDE that can run all the languages without issues pls share.
Right now learning the languages isn't the issue, I have conquered basic Python, C++ and JavaScript no problem. I just want an IDE to be able to traverse them easily. Wow, nice. However if I ask you to build something a little bit complex like a simple game with movement, could you do it in python? If no then I think you have more work to do as I said before, stick to one language and master it. Then you can easily switch to any other language later on |

LocalStandard1: Some months ago I decided to drop animations and go into programming, a path I've always admired. So far it hasn't been easy, first month was highly depressing, excruciatingly frustrating. I started with the Python language.
Now I have this insatiable hunger and need for more, I wanted to learn more languages even though I am still at my early stage with Python. So i decided to dive into more and now I am learning three more languages after Python, namely, JavaScript, C++, SQL. I plan on being proficient in all these languages by December.
Two biggest experiences I've had are:
1. Programming makes you more intelligent and persistent. You develop that attitude to always want to surmount or crack difficult problems, in real live.
2. Starting with one language makes it more, more easier to grasp the rest, maybe even all the others.
I think starting with python is a good idea, it is simple, is an OOP and also a Functional programming. With a lot of initial disappointments and plenty patience anybody can learn, just have plenty of DATA. Some people have made it seem as if learning programming is only for the biggest brains which isn't so. Make it a point to learn something each day and if you find any challenge drop the system for some time and do something else. Youtube and Google are good learning friends here.
My small start! You're going without direction in my opinion, stick to one language |

captainbangz: Am I the only who have observed this about most Indian YouTubers with web development tutorials?. They'll just be typing code on their text editor as if they crammed it or they are copying from somewhere. No live server for their audience to be seeing the effect of each line of code on the webpage.
I don't know how others see it, but to me, it's a very bad way to teach someone. They'll finish writing the code under a selection before showing you how far the work has gone. They'll be like- padding, this, margin, that, width, this, height, that.lol Those are the ones you watch, the ones I watch are not like that. |
