TV/MoviesCritical Analysis Of " The Figurine " By Ankara Boi by FoxyFlow(op): 11:51am On Jan 10, 2014
I initially hyped The Figurine before I even had the time to watch it. Now that I have, my take on the movie is simple - Kunle Afolayan(Sola), should not have stared in that role, his dialogue towards the end with Femi(Ramsey Noah) when Femi hit Sola at the shrine with a wooden plank and killed him, was flawed and painstakingly unbelievable. So far, that has been my only critique on the movie.

I commend Jovi Babs on the script writing but I do not take a liking to his cheesy dialogue lines and the overt energy it took to make the story sound mysterious with lines such as -

Sola - But Why you go talk sey you no go fit help us?(With a little bit of an American Accent at the end of that line)

Soldier - Look I no fit help, we no dey tread pass that place again. Una people sey den see winch inside there. We no dey tread past that place again.

That caption was the opening sentence of the scene before they traveled to Araromire's shrine, and why the repetition like its poetry?

Do you get my point? Sola might as well have opened the scene with his caption as "Oga you gasto help us o. We really need your help to enter that place". Now it sounds more believable for an opening scene, in my opinion.

I really loved the screen shots, the angles, the track in's and out of Araromire the statue, kudos to Kunle Afolayan on that.

I found out that on close up shots, the sound was better, but on distant shots, the sound wasn't so contained, it sounded like doves been released from a cage, with echo's and tiny sound distortions.

Mona(Omoni Oboli) was superb in acting but there was a flawed dialogue between her and Femi(Ramsey Noah)at the garden where they both sat down and she told him about the ill luck the Araromire statue was going to bring after 7years. This was the dialogue -

Mona - There's something I've been meaning to ask you, did your luck suddenly change after our NYSC?

Mona(Omoni) - Did things start to go in your favor even when you don't deserve it?

Trust me, just the way the question was put, sounds really cheesy(in a mysterious kind of way). Jovi Babs(The writer) must have run out of ideas here. Now here's the worst reply ever -

Femi(Ramsey) - (face down)Mona, if everything I ever wanted was at my feet (looks up), then you would be my wife, not Sola's. Junior would be my son, and the unborn child would be mine.

Femi then ends the sentence with "If every thing I wanted was at my feet" like its poetry. This is not an Elizabeth(an) movie for christ's sake.

All in all, I enjoyed the entirety of the movie, was worth the wait. I take back my earlier comment that this was ground breaking, but it sure did raise the bar. I look forward to Nollywood shooting a blockbuster with buildings collapsing and stuff. Ooo, oooo, and I forgot to add that the question at the end of the movie - "What do you believe?" Was stale and totally unnecessary. I thought we stopped doing that since Glamor Girls.

The Figurine

I had the single opportunity of staying in the heart of Abuja for so long yesterday. When I say the heart, I'm not talking about the Central Business District, I'm talking about Wuse 2. Well, you can't blame me, I have not stayed in that part of Abuja to so late in the night.

I went to a studio to do the song I had been planning on doing, and stayed well into the night. No matter how much my producer pleaded with me to stay the night, I rebuffed. I wanted to go home, to my own area, eat my sister's food and sleep on my bed. You know how they say it, not getting used to sleeping outside now so I won't have problems in marriage later.

Came out of Sharif Plaza, looking around. It was 11:30pm already and my mind had already been programmed to know that everywhere was supposed to be dry. Well, the reverse was the case. The whole place was still bubbling. Men, I looked around, cars. Not just cars, but confirm expensive cars. Ranging from SUVs to clean sport cars. Well, for once, I thought about being rich and how it would feel staying so late outside. I quickly shook myself out of that thought when I noticed something.

I am a Nigerian, a northerner (na lie o, Idoma rub me die) who had grown in the core north, so knows all about the culture there. How you can't misbehave in public without getting stoned or beaten. Well, what I saw left my mouth perched and dry. I just couldn't believe it. I sabi describe so I go gist una the amebo well.

Just across the road (I had walked away in search of a car to drop me at home), opposite one joint like that were two people. They are not just people but core northerners, guessing from their dressing. They were walking like they wanted to fly. Well, I have been drunk (lol) once or twice so know the feeling. You just spread your arms out and walk with no care in the world. Each step you take will be like mounting the air.

That was how they were walking. It looked more funny because they were both slim, one male, the other female. One had a caftan on while the other had an abaya (female caftan) on. The babe was trying to catch up with the guy, more like she was pleading with him. He ignored her while walking drunkenly. She ran after him in the same manner until they crossed one junction on their own part of the road. Me? I no enter car again, I was see how the love story go end.

As soon as she caught up with the guy, she held him and went straight down on her knees. Wow, a northerner displaying affection publicly. Hun, the guy was looking upward, fronting. After a while he turned, she must have said something. He bent down gently and went on his own knees. He held her hands and for once I understood, living in a world of my own. They hugged. Wow!!! I thought it was gonna stop there o. For where, they progressed to the next stage of reconciliation between two lovers.

They kissed frenchie.

Well, enough of the spectacle for the night. I flagged down a car, jumped in and told him my destination. I pondered on the whole thing till I woke up this morning.

I just told you, still pondering sha that northerners had public display of affection in them. Don't get me wrong. We've all been watching the news, we know how they are.

Bye...

We all dream dreams. Not the dreams of what we want to become in future. No. The type where you sleep, and later, you see yourself in a world of your own. The feeling is more like an imagination but no matter how you try, you just can't snap out of it. You go to the places you've always wanted to go, meet the people you've always wanted to meet. Sometimes, the faces of the people you meet in your dreams are hidden, cos no matter how hard you try to stare at their face, all you see is a shadow like night passing over it.

I just woke up now, not exactly, I woke up two hours ago from a dream and decided to catch 5 minutes of sleep again. Instead of the normal 5 minutes, I slept for two whole hours. It wasn't like the sleep felt long to me, it was more like closing and opening my eyes only to discover that I had been sleeping for two hours.

I wanted to spring up from my bed, like have the emergency rush feeling, mba, it wasn't forthcoming. Instead I was trying hard to remember the dream I was dreaming before the clock started to tick inside of my head. I laid there, searching my memory but the moment it seemed I had succeeded, something like a veil covers my brain. I forget totally. Well, I have an A-game here. I remembered the last part.

"Rubbing sugar on her ears so that whatever I say to her would be sweet to her hearing."

Who was saying such complex words?

My 6 year old Niece. Lol, I won today. Now I am going to be pondering on the dream for the whole of today. Even if I don't remember all which I know is quite impossible, the little I have remembered will be committed to memory.

When I was much younger, I could remember how my dream started and how it ended. I narrated my dreams to my friends then who always gathered around each morning to hear them. It was fun telling them I met Superman, or I saved Mufasa from dying in the Lion King. They would cringe in fear when I replayed to them bad dreams and would burst into laughter when I tell them of dreams which I find myself naked in front of the class all of a sudden.

I started forgetting those dreams when I read on NET that no man can remember all his dream. Well, oyibo, I used to.

There are instances where I find myself in a new location and I recognize everything there. More like I had been there before. Well, I had. In my dreams. So whenever I see such places, I try hard to remember the conversation and everything. The funny thing is everything I remember that was said in my dream was the same thing that would be spoken of.

Okay, enough of exposing me. When I talk like this, I feel like I am 90 something years old. Let me reconvert to my 12 year old self. Catch some fun with the least worries in the world.

If I remember my dream tonight, be sure I will relate it out to y'all. But one dream I won't forget is the one of Ahtram's father asking me some questions which I answered. She later came out to serve drinks.... Think, I married her in my dream. It might be a dream, but remember I said something.

My dreams comes to pass. Do they call me Joseph for nothing?? Nope. I will pray to God on this one sha.

Good morning y'all...

Now I run crazy
My world all dreamy
Your voice ever enchanting
Falling in love again
Though stubborn
Your heart still beats
When I say this words
I love you

I may be poor
My clothes torn
I may find it difficult
To buy you jewels
But my heart remains true
Your happiness my motivation
O what love I found
When I first met you

My heart beats
Drumming your name
I pray day and night
That we last forever
Be the wife I want
While you hold my kids
This love dey shack me

PhonesRe: Have Anyone Successfully Guessed A Recharge Card Pin before? by FoxyFlow(m): 11:36am On Jan 08, 2014
I have guessed a recharge card pin.

You know how some people will send you message telling you to forward it to 10 people on your contact and 5 Naira SMS was way too expensive. I was still taxing my sister for money.

After receiving that message, I decided to put my faith into use, I just changed the last 2 digits of a recharge card that was sent to me when I was in school. It was worth 400 naira. I ended up getting 200 Naira.

Since then till now, I still dey try to guess, but for where, e no work for me. Maybe it was my faith, because before doing it, I said I needed the miracle now so as to forward that message to the 10 people.

Faith works, God don forgive me and I just confess openly so MTN ma don forgive me. All the same sha, MTN has stolen more from me than I have from them grin grin grin
