TV/Movies / More Trouble For Hitv by franctony(m): 12:54am On Aug 01, 2010
This is definitely not the best of times for HITV as its travails and challenges seem to be increasing on a pay-as-you-go-basis.
MCSN, the collecting firm, had insisted that it has a genuine copyright case against HITV over the use of the theme song for FA Cup, English Premiership and some other copyrighted property. MCSN went to court and got a judgement against HITV. The move rattled the firm and the feud hasn’t been settled.

Mr Mayo Ayilara who spoke to Sunday Sun last week said MCSN has a legitimate case against HITV. “HITV has been trying to play games with us, the management is cocky and thinks it can dribble its way out of paying us. They first wrote us to ask for mode of payment and we responded. A copy of our response is available and I can give you.

They are now saying we are an illegal body without approval. But that is not our argument in court. Our argument is that the owner of these works have licensed us to collect their rights for them, so HITV can run but can’t hide”, Ayilara said.

As if that was not enough, the firm lost the right to broadcast the lucrative English Premiership League which has been its cash cow due to its inability to raise enough money to pay for its rights. Its major competitor, DSTV now has the right .

Now, HITV’s major headache is the exit of Nigezie and an unconfirmed legal tussle with the company.
The 24hours music channel, we learnt , pulled out weeks back from its deal with HITV.
Repeated calls to Justin Akpovi, the spokesperson for HITV proved abortive as his two lines were switched off.

Sports / Militants Kill Two For Watching Eagles/argentina’s Match by franctony(m): 1:05am On Jun 14, 2010
Islamist militants belonging to the Hezbal Islam rebel group have killed two football fans and arrested 10 others after attacking a house where World Cup fans were watching a hotly-contested game between Argentina and Nigeria in the Huruwaa neighborhood north east of the capital Mogadishu late on Saturday.

Residents say that heavily armed militants stormed a house where World Cup fans were secretly watching the football competition which was prohibited in Islamist controlled regions in Somalia.

“Two young men who tried to jump over the wall were shot and killed while 10 others including my husband and my teenage son were taken into Islamist custody in the village,” Halima Ahmed, a mother of five children said in a telephone conversation on Sunday morning.

Islamist militia leader Sheik Mohamed Abu Abdalla said that those in custody have broken and Islamic rule and will be dealt with in accordance with Islamic law. Prior to the World Cup opening, the Islamists in Somalia warned people against watching the World Cup, saying that it was not compatible with Islamic law and that those who were caught watching it would be brought before the Islamic court.

“Football descended from the old Christian cultures and our Islamic administration will never allow watching what they call the FIFA World Cup. We are sending our last warning to the people,” Sheik Abu Yahya Al Iraqi said, addressing crowds in the Suqa Holaha village north of Mogadishu, hours before World Cup kick off Friday.
President of the Somali Football Federation, Said Mahmoud Nur, who was reached for comment while in South Africa, said that he couldn’t talk about the matter because of security reasons.

Meanwhile, residents in the southern Jubba regions have sent a complaint letter to the Al Shabab administration in the regions demanding permission to watch the world’s largest sporting event. Reports say that representatives from the community including elders went to the Al Shabab administrative office in the southern key port town of Kismayo Saturday demanding an acceptance of watching the World Cup, but were denied and told that they would be arrested if they came back with a similar demand.
Sports / How I Stopped Messi –enyeama by franctony(m): 12:59am On Jun 14, 2010
Nigerian goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama, has revealed how he stopped Lionel Messi from scoring in Saturday's match. The Super Eagles lost 1-0, but a brilliant performance from Enyeama, which saw him deny the Barcelona’s star a number of scoring chances earned him the man of the match accolade.

"I have been watching a lot of Messi's games in the Spanish La Liga and I have been studying the way he beats the keepers with some curling shots, so I knew what I had to do to stop him,"revealed Enyeama.

"I think I watched almost 20 games of him playing in the Spanish league and I knew what I needed to do to stop him, that's why each time he tried to beat me, I knew which direction he was going to hit the ball and how he was going to do it.

"So, for me, studying almost 20 games played by Messi helped me a lot.
"I just feel wonderful with the way I played , but I feel horrible because we lost. I wish Messi had come to talk afterwards, but he is the best player in the world and he wouldn't come to the player he doesn't know to congratulate him," quipped the 27-year-old.

"I believe in God a lot and that was definitely God's doing. He was the defence for me today. God is my secret.
"I will say this was the best game I have ever played in my career, because I stopped one of the best players in the world," added the Hapoel Tel Aviv’s keeper.

Super Eagles’ striker, Obafemi Martins, was full of praises for Enyeama and attributed the 1-0 scoreline to the keeper's efforts. "We are not happy we lost and it is not the end of the World Cup, but Vincent is an awesome goalkeeper. We could have been in trouble if it was not for him," Martins stressed.
Sports / Re: Amodu Would Have Done Better Than Laggerback Against Argentina by franctony(m): 12:38am On Jun 14, 2010
Laggerback is surely a very good player, though not sure if he is better than the best Nigerians can offer. his selection and substitutions are world class. i must confess i have never seenYak do better than he did on Saturday on Nigeria jersey.
Lars should remain period, but next time lets do it ourself. i cant imagine all the African countries except Algeria have foreign coaches, this is shameful
