LordReed: You'll be the first student so that you can learn to distinguish dream from waking life. Ok, start the lesson. Prove to me you exist outside my head, that I'm not "dreaming" you |

HellVictorinho: My mind distinguishes between dreams and reality in reality
My mind recognizes that there are impossibilities in a dream which are possible in reality
Speak for yourself and your fellow simulation hypothesis preachers only!
Well, I can predict you will respond with vain repetitions of your previous vomit! Simple: prove to me I'm not dreaming you. No need for argument |

LordReed: Just checked on the cause of false awakenings and turns out stress or anxiety or sleep disorders like insomnia could be the reason. Are you constantly experiencing any of these? Mostly it just happens spontaneously and has nothing to do with stress, and to just about everyone - except you. Bertrand Russell claimed he had 100 false awakenings in a row and couldn't find a way to distinguish from real weakening. See below

Christianity Etc › Re: Why Should I Be An Atheist? by FreeIgboho: 7:30pm On Sep 02, 2021 |
LordReed: I said I know the difference between dream and waking, false awakenings are still dreams are they not? How can it be false if you can't tell the difference between it and real life? It is false because you should be able to tell the difference, if you can't then may be you have a problem. Well some people have multiple false awakenings and nothing has so far worked to let them know they haven't woken up for real - maybe you should go and teach them how you always know you are dreaming since ONLY you seem to have this ability |
Christianity Etc › Re: Why Should I Be An Atheist? by FreeIgboho: 12:52pm On Sep 02, 2021 |
LordReed: Nope, I can tell the difference between dream and waking life. As intriguing as my dreams can be they do not have the vivacity of waking life. No matter how vivid your imagination real life will beat it hands down so I don't know why you can't distinguish between the imaginations your brain is throwing up in dreams and what you see when awake. Do you think you may have a problem with your brain function? According to studies, if you can tell you are dreaming, then you aren't totally dreaming - you are in-between |

Do you think you may have a problem with your brain function? No, going by general consensus you'd seem the one with a problem. As you can see from the below, false awakenings are universal while frequent lucid dreams are indeed very rare and usually last few seconds or minute before you lose the lucidity and again think it's real life.

LordReed: So your brain cannot distinguish between people in your dreams and people in your waking life? I don't know what my brain can distinguish, all I can tell are my own experiences. Sometimes I actually wake up, wash up, hurriedly get ready for work, then wake up again, not knowing it was all a dream. You ever experienced such? |

Christianity Etc › Re: Why Should I Be An Atheist? by FreeIgboho: 8:58am On Sep 02, 2021 |
LordReed: Which probablity do you work with regards to the people you see everyday, do you act as though they are not real or do you act as though they were? The same way I act in my dreams. My brain tells me they are totally real and I act towards them accordingly; doesn't mean they are. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Why Should I Be An Atheist? by FreeIgboho: 10:22pm On Sep 01, 2021 |
LordReed: What is the probability that I am real? Very high. But there is also a possibility that you are a composite created by Seun to help the forum, or that you are a bot, or that u r a figment of my imagination, or that I'm dreaming, etc. Some scenarios are highly unlikely but cannot be ruled out. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Why Should I Be An Atheist? by FreeIgboho: 8:50pm On Sep 01, 2021 |

LordReed: You didn't prod me to do any research, I knew you'd merely deflect to some other nonsense, just like you are doing now, if I asked you to look up the definition. The definition clearly encapsulates all you've been saying but instead of accepting, you want to act like you are in a world of your own, your solipsistic cage. LordReed: Good question! This is how conversations should work. Now I will demonstrate how I know, look straight ahead, take a book and position it to the 2o'clock position of your view. Now while still looking straight ahead try and read the book. You won't be able to but don't take my word for it (like I won't take yours that a supernatural exists), try it out for yourself. I never said a supernatural exists. Who am I to say that - a humble guy like me |

LordReed: You'd know if you paid attention. Read again:
You should poke your head out of your solipsistic dungeon so you can understand even if you don't know.
1. Does your brain see all the wavelengths of the light hitting your retina? No it doesn't therefore it must be APPROXIMATING.
2. I would and I do, just that your conceit won't let you ask questions. What my brain is doing is it's biz. The Seth guy said I am hallucinating and approximating. I can assure him I only present whatever my brain perceives. If it perceives there are 3, I see 3. I don't approximate it to 2 or 4. I actually don't think I can do that. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Why Should I Be An Atheist? by FreeIgboho: 10:23pm On Aug 31, 2021 |
LordReed: The truly humble don't go about bragging about how humble they are. You are not humble if you have to brag to me about your humility, instead you reveal just how conceited you are.
Still a solipsist, pick your flavour:
Metaphysical Metaphysical solipsism is a variety of solipsism. Based on a philosophy of subjective idealism, metaphysical solipsists maintain that the self is the only existing reality and that all other realities, including the external world and other persons, are representations of that self, and have no independent existence. There are several versions of metaphysical solipsism, such as Caspar Hare's egocentric presentism (or perspectival realism), in which other people are conscious, but their experiences are simply not present.
Epistemological Epistemological solipsism is the variety of idealism according to which only the directly accessible mental contents of the solipsistic philosopher can be known. The existence of an external world is regarded as an unresolvable question rather than actually false. Further, one cannot also be certain as to what extent the external world exists independently of one's mind. For instance, it may be that a God-like being controls the sensations received by one's brain, making it appear as if there is an external world when most of it (excluding the God-like being and oneself) is false. However, the point remains that epistemological solipsists consider this an "unresolvable" question.
Methodological Methodological solipsism is an agnostic variant of solipsism. It exists in opposition to the strict epistemological requirements for "knowledge" (e.g. the requirement that knowledge must be certain). It still entertains the points that any induction is fallible. Methodological solipsism sometimes goes even further to say that even what we perceive as the brain is actually part of the external world, for it is only through our senses that we can see or feel the mind. Only the existence of thoughts is known for certain.
Methodological solipsists do not intend to conclude that the stronger forms of solipsism are actually true. They simply emphasize that justifications of an external world must be founded on indisputable facts about their own consciousness. The methodological solipsist believes that subjective impressions (empiricism) or innate knowledge (rationalism) are the sole possible or proper starting point for philosophical construction. Often methodological solipsism is not held as a belief system, but rather used as a thought experiment to assist skepticism (e.g. Descartes' Cartesian skepticism). Good to know you've been proded into doing some research. Our other figments of imagination on this thread should do same. No, you can't call me a solipsist because solipsists are deep philosophers with big grammar. I am simply a guy who acknowledges: I MAY WRONG. You should be same way too (if you exist). Don't go around calling yourself an atheist when you know absolutely nothing for certain! |
