Hello gurus in the house. Please is UBA a good bank for treasury bills? If yes, who has bid through them since the new rule? What's your experience?

Secondly, what is the minimum amount allowed for UBA and stanbic?
I was once in their branch at Area 3, Garki Abuja to make enquiries about it. The lady I met there asked if anybody directed me there and I said nobody..ie I came on my own to enquire.. she then asked how much I intend to invest. I told her 500k and she said their minimum is 1m.
InvestmentRe: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by freeman67: 7:18pm On Mar 18, 2017
yes like some1 stated above... it just a question of you ticking a box in their invested form indicating your interest in reinvesting your interest and the whole amount will be deducted if their bid succeed. GTB would require you calculate and factor the interest inside but the percentage but sometimes getting the exact is usually the issue.

it is just because they are unorganized.. If not the crowd is not much. In fact you go to next 'cash and carry ' in Abuja after the close of work you would understand. Infact they sell just two per person.

@MrTour: Thanks for your response. I am not in Lagos. I actually have the contacts of their people in my location.

In Stanbic, you have about 10 mins to accept or reject secondary market offers for Tbills.

So I thought that having a head office contact could give me more leverage in this new TB "regime". Not a big deal though smiley
Yes it is true that you have just ten minutes to accept or reject secondary market offer so they told me severally. That can be done from any branch provided the person in charge of Tbills there knows what to do. Its just to call them at their global market to know what is available at what rate and tenure. That's all. If it is available, in some branches you will be asked to fill the contract forms and leave then it will be taken care of while in other branches if you stay before that ten minutes the advice would be sent to them, they will enter your details into the platform and ask you to go.

In both cases above that I have encountered, the next day I was be debited at the said amount.

However, in other of their branches where they have clueless people they will just be arguing with you ....and mayb telling you that their Secondary Market TB auction is done Twice in a month. They would neither call nor try to profer solution. Especially in their Wuse 2 branch in Abuja but contrary to their statement there, I did invest in another of their branch on Tuesday, the Thursday of of same week the one I did earlier matured and was credited to my account. I went there the next day (Friday)and reinvested it..

Sorry I had to quote you again!
I just got off the phone with the Customer Care Officer in charge of Securities and Investment Instruments at the Stanbic IBTC Branch in the town where I'm domiciled, and he told me that bids with them for yesterday NTB was successful, and that the transactions will be effected as usual before the day ends.
I really do not know how to reconcile this!
Then something is wrong somewhere. Maybe the person that is to handle it in his branch forget to send his request to Head Office for processing.

Just got an alert of N16350 from First Bank on the 500k investment in NTB for 91days.
This is a confirmation that first bank is game I.e they're continuing with it.

If this interest is Minus the deductions it should be about 13.3-4 which is fair if compared with the CBN rate @feelamong posted.

@ganasay
You bid for the secondary market through the security houses. Some banks like Stanbic and Diamond do secondary market almost on weekly basis but for FBN and GTB it is subject to availability I.e if an already existing investor intend to dispose off. So you can just visit your bank and make enquiries then bring whatever out here let's discuss.

@Ukay
I tire for Stanbic oooo... but lets just watch and see the next two or three auction before we conclude but before then you either try their secondary market or if you have FBN account you can quietly transfer your funds there against next primary auction.

@udoka
Before now the minimum amount set by the FG for investment in TB was 10k in multiples of 1k.. but different banks decided to set theirs. FBN, GTB and Stanbic had 100k as their minimum.
I once went to a UBA branch and was told their minimum was 1m so I had to withdraw my small money to where is accepted. I do not bank with Zenith so I am not familiar with happenings there.
If ur money is not up u can try another bank.

All is well oh Sir, we thank God. I believe u can still invest with that amount. I have not seen or heard anything contrary. what seem to be in contention now is how to get the best rate but I believe as thing unfold we will know the direction to go..

Rizin:
Yes they can. All u need to do is to send mail to your account officer asking him or her of any TB for secondary mkt and rate.
Also remember that there is no bidding day here as it was in primary mkt.
He is talking about primary market. Banks seldom tell customers bid rate at primary auction because the bid has not been won. How would take if after telling u a particular bid it goes the other way?

Yes for secondary the bid is already know. In fact once you request for TB in the secondary market through a bank, they would tell you what is available (tenure and percentage).

Good point but that will only be in retrospect since you can only know bank rate after the bid is successful. And we cannot definitively say because Bank A had a reasonably good rate this time, it will also have for future bids. But good point though.
True but if we watch for like 2 - 3 auctions, we will know the banks that are consistent and also fair in the ℅ of interest they are willing to let out their to customers.

So discussing the rates given here is very important.

CareerRe: I Regret Being A Medical Doctor by freeman67: 8:37am On Mar 12, 2017
Medical Personnel especially Medical Doctors have always been respected in Nigeria. Is just that human beings are designed to better themselves no matter how good the situation is.

I can remember that during my service year when all other graduates were paid N9,800 Medical Personnel Pharmacist and Doctors were collecting between N45,000 - N60,000.

In the civil service or other public institution their salary structure is different. They have a different salary structure called COMESS while others are on CONPASS. Apart from that, majority of them working in public institutions also have where they do private practice. So on the normal weight scale of Nigeria Life, Medical profession weigh very high..

Yes people with other Ideas and business grow richer and more respected sometimes, it not diminish the fact that the doctors are still very respected.

Since you are still thinking of what to do, If you have a first bank account just put the money invest it in 91days treasury bill and instruct them to keep reinvesting it till you give contrary instruction....

If you are a patient person you can open a supermarket with that money if you have a good location but not without learning from those already in it. It a kind of business that with the knowledge, location, right connection and discipline.. Ur growth will be instant.

HealthRe: How Do Females Cope With Male Gynaecologists? by freeman67:
Human minds can imagine lots of things and whatever is imagined can come to fruition. its also deaigned to probe whatever we do not understand..
That said, I will remind us that it takes two to tango. If your wife is not in consonance or in tune with the gynea's unprofessional act there is not way it will smoothly go without being noticed and corrected/punished except it's done when she probably was unconscious.

Doctor are humans and professional just like all other humans/professionals.. In all profession you will find randy men no doubt but concentrating on the mans randiness instead of the job he has to do is sometime inconsiderate. You should not stop a student from going to complain about missing result to a lecturer because he may want to have his way with her or say u do not want a NEMA/Security Agents official carrying your wife with torn dress to the hospital after an accident because they'll see her naked and maybe do something fishy. Yet there more serious health issues than these. So sometimes it is better to take our minds of some situations except we suspect foul play.

That a woman is in the hospital to see a gynea that eventually is a man for medical check -up or VE does not take away her right to speak up or request for the presence of chaperone if she is not comfortable with the arrangement or feel anything unusual. Except of course if she is unconscious, unfaithful or you do not trust her with that kind of situation.

FamilyRe: Woman Burnt Money Hidden Inside Laundry Basket By Husband by freeman67: 10:42am On Jan 30, 2017
The solution is not to beat the woman because that would not bring back the money if actually it was burnt.

However, we cannot just conclude that the man is stingy when you don't know how they have been leaving. He could have very genuine reason for not bringing out the money.

What if he was saving the money for there for his wife's delivery? Its not everybody that have the strength to start running helter-skelter looking for who to borrow money from. so he may consider it wise to save.

What if the money is for maybe a contribution he is keeping for his group. Artisans, menial and even government worker some times see contribution as a way of saving money or pulling resources together for members to achieve various goal and objectives. what if he was keeping the money in that regard?

what if the money is keep under his care on trust. On several occasions I have had my colleagues Superiors and subordinates giving me money to keep for them. What if he believes his house is safe and decide to keep the money there?

As a mechanic customers give them money to buy parts even though some of them can be very dubious, not all of them are that way. What if the money is meant for parts?

So you cannot just conclude that unless you hear the mans side...

Fynebouy:
Hello All,

Please alagbas, I will appreciate some guidance. I need to fill out the FBN TCB Form to enable me purchase at the next bid round (next Wednesday I think). There are some questions I need guidance on, such as:

1. Do you want to invest the interest payable upfront with this investment - I picked "yes". Is there any implications here?
2. On Maturity - should I authorize the bank to roll over or terminate. Is there any implications to terminating especially if I want to continue.

There is no portion of the form which permits me to stake my own discount rate.

Any experience with First Bank which would guide me on the above?
1. It depends on what you want I.e your investment goal. If you intent to use the returns instantly.. Paying it upfront is the sure thing but if do not have need for it at the moment, it is better invested with the principal.

2. Personally I think it is better to ask them to roll over. If you have needs for your money you can go to the bank and ask them to terminate at maturity..No big deal.
Also if you choose to roll over, So long as their bid keep succeeding, you will not have any need of going there always for same transaction except you want to inquire about the growth of investment
However, if you decide to terminate and keep going back for reinvestment any auction day you are unable to drop your request early and it passes, you will loose two weeks because first bank only do secondary market when there is an existing TB holder willing to sell.
