It's a pity that she didn't ever meet someone she knew who also knows the guy when they were out somewhere.
In London you mostly know somebody who knows somebody you know people just network a lot over there

Last year I attended a naming ceremony and one guy showed up with this young woman by his side, you should have seen how all the women kept querying this man about his wife
"Where is Mama Ngozi,I thought she was coming with you?"
Another woman was informing him that she had just finished talking to this man's wife a few minutes back and she was sorry that she was unwell.
The host of the house smiled at him and politely  said that he had not yet introduced the young lady with him
he laughed and said that this was his younger sister visiting from out of town everybody laughed together breaking the tension,
somebody jokingly said she would still confirm with mama Ngozi,

You can imagine if it was his lover, this woman would have known instantly that the man she was with was married.Your friend might be withholding some information from you,she must have seen the handwriting on the wall at some point in the 18 months

Wasn't there a thread previously that asked why African girls like asking questions like "are you married",do you have this or that,This is one of the main reasons. Sometimes it pays to be cautious

If you don't meet your boyfriend through mutual friends, acquaintances or family then you have to ask this questions when you begin dating and feel you are serious with the man,the answers aren't even enough you still need to do your research well well.

Some men out there will continue to deceive you and stick to their lies no matter what.
18 months is a long time to be lied to shocked Did your friend ever meet any of his friends wives, kids or even his own family?

Why the tears? Haba for a full grown man like Adeyemi, To me the guy wants cheap popularity.

He might have gone through some form of racism in his 20 years considering he was born and raised in a predominantly white town but racial abuse is something you can NEVER get used to.I hope he develops thick skin for his profession,he will surely need it.

There has always been virulent racism in Liverpool because essentially when poor people feel under threat, they like to lash out at those whom they see as competition. Check the axe murder of a black boy in 2005 in broad daylight (http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2005/dec/01/ukcrime.race).
The Suarez case has just entrenched their 'backs against the wall' mentality as they followed an ignorant Dalglsih and unrepentant Suarez and now see themselves as victims against a London based media monopoly.

I worked with a few scousers and I always felt most of them suffer an inferiority complex towards the southerners.I know the southerners mock their accent and the fact that they come from the north too. What's wrong with the North anyway?

MsDarkSkin:

HELLO?!! EUROPE!!  tongue
lol what do you expect?  grin

Having lived in both continents,I would say the U.S is segregated to the core. What happened to the whites living in the cities especially in the East Coast?? They all packed and ran to the burbs.

Blacks in Europe have not lived for over 400 years in large masses like their "continental cousins" in the U.S who are on most cases treated like second class citizens which is a shame in my books.
Europe is home to Europeans while the U.S has been home for hundreds of years to millions of ethnic minorities,is it not about time to blend and forget about what color anybody is??

Being wealthy or elite but black doesn't stop the Oyinbo in the U.S from treating the blacks with suspicion either.I wasn't surprised on finding out about many wealthy neighborhoods that are home to blacks only.

Last thing you need is coming home to a nosy oyinbo neighbor who is trying to find out indirectly about the source of your wealth or if you are doing any illegitimate business so he can make a complaint or do worse

Omo_Tier1:

It all started when 'MADAMS' like the owner of Hotel Doris Dey in Benin City went about deceiving people that hair stylist and other artisans earn more than civil servants in Nigeria in places like Italy in the late 80's and early 90's. With their syndicate abroad, they deceived people even to the extent of them asking people to sell their properties; land, houses, cars you name it with the 'fake' hope that they would earn x10 of that money in Europe (ITALY) and within a year or two they would be able to rebuild a better house or buy cars over there to send back home.

What a shame!!
I fail to understand why these women on returning back to Nigeria decided that the oldest profession in the world would be the most suitable for their own women?? The love of money will surely make one's morals to vanish instantly.

It doesn't help matters that prostitution is legal in some parts of Italy, just goes to show that legalizing something sometimes doesn't mean people will be bored of it but they could end up abusing it even more.

It all boils down to greed and naivety if somebody is telling you about building a house in a few months and that you'll come back to Africa breathing out money from your fingers to your toes then it's up to the person to do their homework!

I remember in the documentary when the girl took the reporter to her parents and her mama was saying if the knew what was going to happen to her daughter she wouldn't have ever allowed her to leave Nigeria

Haba, Emirates is a very professional airline. The only thing is, they shed all their headgear and stuff on the DXB-LOS flight. You can't blame them for that. I wonder if she took the 7am flight to Lagos. I always avoid that flight, and opt for the 2.15pm instead. The early morning flight is usually packed. But, man . . . flying NY to Dubai and then to Lagos? No wonder she was cranky. That's a 14 hour hike in one direction, and another 8 hours back in the same direction shocked

Though i think it's not the airline. All flights inbound Lagos from anywhere is always chaos, caused mostly by the passengers.
Excess cabin luggage, irritable children, etc . . . I can't think of any flight I have taken inbound Lagos that has not been full of chaos. But I like Emirates. Well, I have to fly them a lot, anyway wink

I've never flown with Emirates but have mostly heard good stuff about them except this one time.Wow did you say 8 hours from Dubai to Lagos?? That is torture!! after another 8 or 9 hour flight

A good friend of mine flies frequently with Qatar Airlines from LHR,I can just imagine what she goes through for over 16 hours with 2 kids under 6 years!!! those are too many hours from Europe to the middle east (Doha) then back to Africa.

I know sometimes you can't help it but I would rather save more money and spend an extra amount on my ticket in order to get one layover and if possible no connections at all to my destination

Talk about organized crime!!!! This is a proper crime syndicate in every way imaginable!!

How did Benin/Edo State end up being the centre of the trafficking of girls??
We all know many parts in Nigeria are affected by poverty one way or another so that should not be a valid reason for the Trafficking or would Benin be where the Human traffickers originally come from??
All in all this is just a devastating situation !!

A good way to beat this is to stop flying BA, and fly Arik, poor customer service and all.
We need to support our own, period. If we don't like Arik's customer service, we can engage them constructively. Sometimes sef, we the educated elite of Nigeria can be real nit-pickers. A very senior Oyinbo in my office (American) told he he flies Arik to New York regularly, and enjoys himself very well. Mind you, he didn't fly First, he flew business, and once flew economy.

I second that,No matter how bad BA will ever get the Brits are always packed on that plane going to whatever destination.
During the strikes about 2 years ago a previous boss of mine who has flown with BA for over 20 years cancelled his vacation when they told him he had an option to fly with another European carrier.

Omo_Tier1:

Mind you aircraft are designed to 'live' a useful life of 25years on the average with a 'pass by date' of 30years.

Previously on my trip from LHR to IAD I could swear that BA flight was going on 50 Years lol it was one old machine.

Somebody I know hasn't stopped talking about her humiliating experience with Emirates last year. She said as soon as they landed Dubai from NY,the connecting flight she took to Lagos  from Dubai was a transformation she couldn't believe, first of all the staff dressed down from their elegant outfits to something she couldn't explain and the aircraft looked a mess.
She now flies Arik from NY direct to Lagos she's just happy to save time and not deal with layovers and connecting flights. We shall continue to be humiliated to understand how to patronize our own carriers unfortunately

Omo_Tier1:

PPP is just a joint venture, and can be handled on behalf of the FG, State or Local government by any of their agency or Parastatal or Ministry. For example, the OKNLG Liquid to Gas project in the oil sector is a PPP project between the FG/NNPC and some technical partners and the ministry of Petroleum resources supervises the PPP agreement on behalf of the FG to make sure their own part of the bargain is realized.

Air Nigeria is actually Privately owed now with Jimoh Ibrahim of formally NICON Airways, NICON Insurance (also formally FG owned but sold to him for peanuts) but is HUGELY financed by UBA. So do not be surprised if UBA goes to press to tell you Air Nigeria belongs to the as this has happened before 'cos Jimoh could not service the debt owed UBA.

Air Nigeria, do not forget is the rebranded Virgin Nigeria which is the left over fraudulent foot print of Sir Richard Brandson's Virgin Atlantic when Obasanjo invited him over to help float a National Carrier for Nigeria. Instead, Branson with His gang of technical crooks, took advantage of that deal to fleece the Nigerian state, borrowed huge money from UBA and their financial partner in Singapore, embarked on ambitions and too fleepy routes expansion that really never had high yield factor e.g. flying Lagso to London-Gatwick daily, Lagos to Jo, Burgh daily and the result was huge operating cost for Virgin Nigeria with less revenue, hence no able to break even with cost soaring. Richard Branson and His gang of technical crooks pulled out of the joint venture agreement, FG was left biting her fingers really hard, and the obvious option left was for the FG to sell off her 40% stake in Virgin Nigeria to the OPS, which Jimoh Ibrahim bought, rebranded it initially with his NICON Airways and Finally Air Nigeria. They currently are financed by UBA, and seems to be doing relatively okay on Local and Regional routes even as they hope to resume their international flights as they still ahve their London and South Africa routes, as they only suspended their operations for the time being.

The truth be told, Aviation is hugely captical intensive and if you ask me, the FG should only set up a National carrier under a PPP arrangement with a crop of local and foriegn technical partners. FG can own 40% stake in the PPP arrangement as I explained earlier and this would give them enough power within the agreement to make quick interventions when things go awry.  Rather than investing a whooping $2bn in refinary in Malaysia, FG can expend only $1.5bn of that sums in a PPP arrangment with counter funding from OPS an retrieving all the Nigeria airways property sold for peanuts from those that bought them, reviving them and calling back home all our aviation experts that have relocated to the Far-East and Asia, recruiting those already heading towards the emerging aviation markets in Africa. This wll bring more revenue to the FG in form of taxes and put food on the table of man. Imagine a Nigeria Wings with over 140 state of the art fleets of Aircraft, thats like employing over 10,000 to 20,000 people through direct or indirect labour in Nigeria alone! Given how Nigerians travel widely, especially within the sub sahara continent, then that might even mean more higher direct labour work force due to route expansion. Lets not talk of the trade anf commerce that would follow from the direct market access these routes would create for the local economy in the two connecting countries!

Enough said, we have wicked leadership that care less about others but more about their pockets! it's a no brainer that our current position in Africa should mean more jobs for our people back home through leveraging of the markets of other countries under out belt!

Omo_Tier1 that is quite informative a big thank you
In regards to flying locally in Nigeria I noticed the extremely well to do business men/women hardly fly commercial but do private.Could reliability be playing the big role here apart from having a lot of money of course?

Omo_Tier1:

PPP means PRIVATE PUBLIC PARTNERSHIP OR PUBLIC PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP. Basically, it an arrangement in which funding/technical assistance for a particular project is undertaken by both the government and the organized private sector in a joint venture arrangment.

It is most beneficial to the organized private sector wanting to undertake huge projects that could be affected by a sudden change in government legislation, or where the goverment lacks the financial or technical prowess to undertake a project with associated risks. There are various format it could take, but I guess this simple explanation answers your question.

So in the case of the National carrier issue, since floating a National carrier would involve billions of dollars, sound technical and business minds, then it makes sense that the FG teaming up with the OPS in a 40-60 partnership can give a back to the OPS to borrow money in the form of letter of credit, help fix up any regulation that may adversely affect the smooth running of the airline and make amends where necessary to existing legislation to allow the business to run smoothly. The OPS on the other hand, will bring their own technical know-how into bear in the day to day
management of the airline.

Somehow, many people are not aware that BA is not wholly owned by the British government, it has since been sold off but the government still have a minority controlling stake in BA. Currently, the IAG (International Airline Group) that also owns Iberia Airline of Spain currently owns BA. BA initially suffered similar fate as NA because the model that they were using to operate it was out-dated, and really does not fit the Aviation world! Hence the had to get the OPS in and even at this point BA is still running on a huge operating loss to the tune of over £150m every year.

Wow !!! Thanks for the detailed explanation. What you're saying is now making sense.
BA have caused so many strikes in the last few years.I was wondering how they were coping
Would PPP also be called a parastatal?

Why is Air Nigeria which is owned by both the State and Private Investors not doing well?
Kenya Airways & Ethiopian Airlines have now invested in new local Carriers in Accra & Togo respectively.Hopefully the Nigerian government will appreciate the economic benefits that aviation brings to a country because this BA/KLM mess that Nigerians are going through is not funny!!!
