1 ETI share equals 14 of Oceanic

With ETI shares currently hovering around 11 naira, the 2 million worth of Oceanic Shares I bought in 2006 shall subsequently (rough estimate/calculation) have a total value of about N90, 000.

Investment / Oceanic Bank Set To Delist Shares From N.S.E. by freezy(m): 1:06pm On Sep 06, 2011
Oceanic Bank International Plc has announced plans to delist its shares from the Nigerian Stock Exchange.

This, according to the bank, is because of its ongoing merger and acquisition plans with Ecobank Transnational Incorporated Plc.

According to a notice given to shareholders of the company on Monday, the bank will be seeking the approval of its shareholders at its forthcoming Annual General Meeting to delist its ordinary shares from the NSE’s Daily Official List.

The notice added that shareholders were also expected to give approval to the plans by the bank to register the bank with the Corporate Affairs Commission as a private company.

The notice, which formed part if its special business to be considered during the AGM, stated that shareholders were to consider and if thought fit, pass the special resolutions.

The resolutions, according to the bank, include, “That the Directors be and are hereby authorised to undertake the delisting of the ordinary shares of the bank from the official list of the NSE.

“That the directors be and hereby authorised to undertake the re-registration of the bank as a private company with the Corporate Affairs Commission, and undertake such other acts as are necessary or advisable to give effect to the above.”

It added that the meeting would be held in Lagos on September 27, 2011.

Oceanic Bank had last week, said that it would transfer 40.17 per cent of its holdings to ETI, subsequent to the approval of its shareholders.

The bank had said, “The proposal will hand over 49.80 per cent of its ordinary shares to the Asset Management Capital of Nigeria, in exchange for the N290.15bn rescue package we received over the year.

A court-ordered mandatory meeting to vote on the deal would be held on September 27, the bank had said.

At the mandatory meeting, the bank will seek to reduce its share capital to N889.31m comprising 1.18 billion shares of 50 kobo each, through the cancellation of the entire paid-up capital.

Intercontinental Bank Plc, Oceanic Bank, Finbank Plc, Union Bank of Nigeria Plc and Equatorial Trust Bank Limited have signed agreements with core investors, but shareholders have yet to accept the deals

Politics / C.A.N To Start Christain Banking. . . Based on Swedish Model by freezy(m): 12:24pm On Aug 26, 2011
THERE were indications yesterday that Christians in Nigeria are considering the idea of setting up their version of non-interest banking.

The association said it expects the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to deploy the same resources it had pushed into Islamic banking to make the planned Christian version a success.

According to Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), it is studying the amount the CBN had invested in Islamic banking and would demand the same treatment when the Christian outfit is set for take-off.

The new initiative of the association was made public yesterday in Benin City, Edo State, by CAN President, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor.

He said the CBN should demonstrate that it meant well for Nigeria by introducing non-interest banking and Islamic banking into the economy under uniform guidelines.

Oritsejafor said until the CBN comes out with common modalities for the non-interest banking and then allows any interested party to go into the sector, its current position would continue to hurt the industry.

He said the apex bank’s promotion of Islamic banking under the guise of non-interest banking was heating up the polity.
In a keynote address at the 36th yearly national conference and general meeting of the Nigeria Christian Graduate Fellowship (NCGF) in Benin City, Oritsejafor said it was hypocritical for the CBN and some persons to be promoting Islamic banking in a secular country like Nigeria.

kokogee:

Great! while 'measures' that reduce the impact of floods are being triggered, why can't GEJ concentrate on implementing simple and visible measures such as proper drainage and road construction rather than waiting for satellite to tell him how to how to implement blueprint on town planning.

Note: billions are spent/embezzled in the said project.

Well, that is his shizzle. I only can tell about the capability of a satellite.
I do know that satellites cost a fortune. The cheapest is about $50m (7.5b naira) and some goes as high as $700m (105b naira).  shocked
Meeen. . .  that is a lot of money o.
But considering the fact it costs an average of $3.5m (525m naira) to build a road per mile, I can't but wonder how many miles of road 105b naira can build.  undecided

It is not about keep talking, there was a satellite launched some yrs ago for same purpose of flood monitoring; Lagos and some other part of Nigeria suffer huge loss due to flood some weeks ago while everybody was helplessly watching lives and properties destroyed.

I'm not a satellite expert, but I think u'v said nothing as regard HOW SATELLITE CAN HELP PREVENT FLOOD. KINDLY EXPLAIN

^^^^
Satellites do not prevent flooding. However, satellites have the ability to provide detailed  warnings thus trigger measures that will reduce the impact of the floods on life and property.

Omo forget story ooo. The mosquitoes in yankee are like 5 billion times the number in naija. Only difference is that they don't carry the malaria parasite and they usually don't breed in the cities. I was in south texas recently and if you see the size of the mosquitoes you go runnn. HUGE m***f***kers. You need to see mosquitoes chasing people during the day, BROAD DAYLIGHT. At least naija mosquitoes go still follow you play hide and seek or shina rambo for night. The ones in south texas are VICIOUS.

All the spraying of insecticide is just nonsense.

jason2010:

I just hope that they don’t spray that air freshener stuff into the airspace in the cabin before take off like BA and KLM. The Royal Dutch airlines, KLM did that sh-t two months ago. What I found interesting is that they only sprayed it on our way from Lagos to the Schipol in Amsterdam, but they did not spray it on our way to Detroit. I guessed that since the demographic of most customers on board at that time had changed from Nigerians to American Caucasians no need for them to spray it. Were they suggesting that we stink or was it standard procedure?

That *shyte* is an insecticide that prevent mosquitoes boarding a flight from Naija into their zones which are already mosquito free. The last thing they'd want to deal with is an uncontrollable malaria outbreak caused by those gangster mosquitoes from the tropics.

Crime / Re: Man Beats Son To Death. by freezy(m): 6:04pm On Aug 12, 2011
High_Chief:

The proverbial saying, “Spare the rod and spoil the child” seems to have pushed Tunde Shitta, an auto mechanic, to beat his 11-year-old son, Toib, to death.

Our correspondent, who visited Tunde’s home at 33, Adeniyi Street, Itire, Lagos; learnt from neighbours that he had on many occassions flogged Toib, leaving him with scars.

A resident, who spoke to PUNCH METRO on the condition of anonymity, said Tunde visited his anger on the 11-year-old boy after his new wife reported that he (Toib) disobeyed her.

The neighbour said, “On that day, his stepmother sent him on an errand but he refused because he was sleepy. When the father returned, she reported Toib’s disobedience to him and he flogged him.

“His father hit his head with a stool and then he began to bleed until he died.”

PUNCH METRO gathered that after the incident, Tunde did not report to the police but went to bury Toib according to Islamic rites in his grandfather’s compound.

It was gathered that police were unaware of the incident until Toib’s biological mother who had divorced his father, went to Itire Police Division to report.

When our correspondent visited the division, a police officer, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the case was under investigation.

He said, “We only got wind of the situation on Wednesday night when a woman came to report that her ex-husband had beat her son to death.

“The suspect however claimed that it was while he was beating his son that the latter fell and hit his head against a stool. Tunde said when his son started bleeding, he was rushed to a hospital but died on the way.

“So, the police are investigating in order to ascertain if the father actually hit him with a stool like the neighbours claimed or he fell and hit his head. The stool has even been recovered.”

Another neighbour, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, described Tunde as a man, who was fond of beating up his wife and children.

He said, “Before Tunde divorced Toib’s mother, he used to beat her. On one occasion, he stabbed her in the head. That was when she decided to divorce him, leaving him with her four children.

“Toib was only 11 years old and was in primary six at Itire Primary School then. It is unfortunate that he was killed by his father.”

Another member of the community, who also craved anonymity, said Tunde should be charged for also trying to cover up the crime.

“After killing his son, Tunde instructed his three other children to clean up the crime scene. I can only imagine the sort of trauma they are going through. He then went ahead to bury Toib without filing a police report,” he said.

Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Samuel Jinadu, said the police were investigations the incident.

“The Lagos State Police Command is poised to reduce crime to its barest minimum in the state and we will make sure no criminal goes unpunished,” he said.
