Great responses, the VO wasn't just convinced about your aunt sponsoring you.
tyma21:
I went for my Interview today and was denied.
Please here is my transcript. I will really appreciate if i can get anyone to help me to know where i went wrong cos i will be applying for another interview soon and if possible anyone have idea of the earliest date and help me with better preparation.

VO: Goodmorning, pls pass me your Visa nd i20
VO: can you tell me your educational qualifications?
Me: i had my first degree in Law at the UNi... after which i proceeded for my 1yr certification at the Nigerian Law school as a Legal Practisioner
VO: ooh! So you are a lawyer
Me: Yes, i am
VO: where are you going to?
Me: i am going to the USA for my masters degree in public Administration at the Uni of Illinois,Springfield.

VO: how many school did you apply to and what interest you about the school?
Me: i applied to just UIS and aside from the fact that the school offers a masters degree program in a course that alines with my profession as a legal practitioner, the school also provides a form of liberal arts system in which i do not only get to offer MPA only as a masters degree course but also offers as a graduate degree course in public sector labour relations. And also prior to my interview, i had exchanged several emails with a lecturer in the department who advised me on the importance of having a qualification in MPA as a legal practitioner.

VO: why MPA?
Me: i choose MPA because the course is a plus to my career as a legal practitioner as it will enable me understand the legislative complexities involved in policy making, analysis and decision making and also to ensure sustainability and efficiency in the processess involved in formulating, implementing and enforcement of this policies into law.

VO: what career plan do you hve with MPA?
Me: upon my graduation as an MPA holder i am returning back to my country as cos as a degree in MPa you can work in any government parastatals. i would be working as an Administrative Service Manager ensuring proper analysis of incentives, ensuring policies are made subject to societal needs and also as a liason officer to policy affected group such as the labour sector.

VO: what part of Administration?
VO: Administration of policies in areas of social inclusion, rights and sustainability of the rules of law.

VO: did you write any exam?
Me: Yes, i wrote an online examfrom the school which ranges from English, mathematics,QR and Verbal Reasoning. Every other exams was waived for me due to my results from the University.( all the exams was waived)

VO: who is your sponsor?
Me: My aunt

VO:why is she sponsoring you and why cant your parent sponsor you?
Me: she has been the one sponsoring my education right from secondary school.
VO: sorry .......

He was typing all through the interview and i made sure I maintained a good eye contact. He stopped typing when he asked for my sponsor.

For those that have been denied before, don't worry about failure Worry about the chances to win you miss when you don't try again. I hope this motivates someone that's giving up.

justwise:

The timing of this your post is good as it will allow me to say what i would have said to you in private because i received your email.

1. The mock interview issue here.

a. This will do more harm than good to people taking part in a private mock interview because the person interviewing is not a VO and will not give you the answer to follow-up questions which comes after you might have answered your memorised/crammed question.

b. The person interviewing you can unintentionally give you wrong answer/idea/impression and nobody will be able to spot/challenge that unlike when such mistake is made in public here.

c. VOs know when you have been coached/told to say something because you always sound and behave like an answer machine.

2.The whatsapp group.

This is a selfish idea that benefits very few people. Many get to know about this thread through google search, whatsapp group chat history will not be available in google search.

There is nothing you can say or discuss in whatsapp that can not be said here unless you want to discuss how to circumvent immigration policies.

3. My tips for you

a.Know why you want to study in US and not Canada, UK etc

b. Know why you decided to study that particular course, the benefit to you and life after graduation.

c. Know why you chose that particular university out of hundreds of universities in US

d. Make an effort to read up about the city where your university is situated, what attract foreign students to that city, what is good about that city etc.

If answers to above questions are given to you in a private mock interview or whatsapp group then you will be going to the interview to repeat what everybody in that whatsapp group or mock interview have told the VO.

You have more than enough material in this thread to prepare yourself use it.

Good luck.
enough said. This has nailed it. ARTICULATE!

your response to why Wartburg wasn't good enough in my opinion. You should have talked about the curriculum mentioning the courses you would be taking and practical oriented mentioning researches that would be carried out by professors and how it's well aligned with your area of interest. You haven't done your home work o....pls,go back to the previous transcript here and do justice to them. you sure would get your visa this time. It's certain!

The journey started last month when I was refused a @abuja.....I was downcast and at a point stopped beleiving God......but my aunt believed in me so she reapplied for me using LAGOS.......
I got to the embassy around 10-50am but my appointment was 9-45am .....the CGI guy said I was 5min late.....I was like is this guy drunk......but I kept mute....aFTer the whole process,i went inside....OMG...SEE AS PEOPLE PLENTY INSIDE LIKE SAY NA MARKET.....BUT I WENT IN LIKE THAT,WENT TO GET MY PASSORT AND SEVIS FEE VERIFIED AFTER THAT I JOIned another cue for finger print.....omg the guy doing the finger print is in hell of a talkertive.....did my finger print and joined another cue for the main thing .....few student were given visa Though.... it was my turn I looked back and we were like 20 in the room .......

Me:mid west uni, northern east,University of Colorado and east west uni...
Vo:so why east west
Me:east west curriculum fit my area of intrest...vo cuts In againagain....
Vo:can you tell me about this curriculum....I didn't stop there I continued saying I'll be joining prof********* ****** research team who are currently making researching on generating electricity from tiles by the use of piezoelectric material which convert mechanical stress from a footfall into electrity.....
Me:it has a faculty ratio of 20:1 which will help.....go cuts in again.

No documents was asked

My advice though be bold be prayrfull .....and anytime vo cuts in always have a back up......never let them get you........and never tell any member of your family....your mama's prayer and yours with some psalms is enough.....GOD BLESS YOU TEXTREM AND YOUR BRO BRIGHT .....OTHER people I didn't mention and we all famz....jah bless we all .....be bold.

My gratitude to everyone who has contributed one way or another here. This is my way of extending the love to other intending applicants. All the best.

My F1 interview was scheduled for last Tuesday (December 13) alongside my wife and son. Unfortunately, the CGI list was not updated to have the confirmation numbers for my family and they were turned back. I went ahead for the interview.

Me: Good morning Sir, how is work today?
VO: Very fine (smiles). Thanks for asking.
Me: You're welcome
VO: I see you plan to study IT, please tell me how you went about your application and selection process.
Me: You mean my application at Clark University or all the applications I made?
VO: All the applications you made
Me: I applied to 3 universities... University of Manitoba in Canada - accepted; Brunel University in Uxbridge, London - accepted and then Clark University, Worcester.
VO: Impressive...so what's your GRE score?
Me: I did not write GRE. It was waived for me.
VO: Really? It's not required? Alright that's fine.
VO: [Nodding] So why choose Clark You over others?
Me: For UManitoba, I applied to MSc Computer Science because they have no specialized programs in Computer Science or IT and I think the MSc Computer Science is best for those who aim to be academics but not so good for someone like me who intends to excel in a drilled down (I meant to say specialized) area. As for Brunel, I visited the campus last year and loved it but the tuition alone is 20,000 pounds and I realized the cost of living is ridiculously high and way above my sponsor's budget. In the case of Clark You, it was recommended by my mentor who I have followed for years in Cybersecurity and he also helped design the curriculum. I didn't want to pass the chance to work closely with someone I have idolized for years.
VO: Nice. So you are sponsoring yourself? (I think this is a tricky way to get me to lie)
Me: No, my sponsor is XXXXXXX
VO: But you have a child. Why are you not going with him. Won't your family miss you?
Me: Yeah actually I came with my wife and son but we had a slight issue with the confirmation numbers. They will reschedule for later.
VO: Alright, that's fine. I will be approving your visa. Good luck in your studies.
Me: Thanks a lot. Have a nice day.

Today (December 21), we returned for the F2 visa interview of my wife and son.
Wifey: Good morning, compliments of the season.
VO: Thanks and same to you. How are you?
Wifey: Fine, thanks.
VO: Can I have your passport please?
Wifey: [passes passport with I-20's]
VO: Oh, F2 visa? Has he gone already? What's your husband's name?
Wifey: Yes, F2 visa; No, he's still around and his name is XXXX
VO: Do you have other kids or just this guy here?
Wifey: Just this guy here.
VO: Okay, your visa has been approved.

Thank God, thanks all and success to everyone. Compliments...
congratulations

ME: *smiles* and say NO
VO: got kids?
ME: *smiles* and says NO

ME:i intend to transfer my 60 credit hour to a university to obtain a bsc in computer engineering after which I'd come back home to practice with my dad...
VO:who's your sponsor?

VO:how did you get to know about the school?
ME:a cousin who's an alumni of the school and currently in nigeria, gave me strong recommendation of the school...
Typed for like 2minutes and said the sentence "I'll be approving your visa" (thought Nairalanders lie when they say they do not hear anything after this sentence but I experienced it too today...) nothing else didn't just seem to matter, collected the paper and said "thank you" with a Smile...said "thank you Jesus" out loud right before I exited the interview hall...my appreciation goes to GOD almighty as HE performed wonder in my life Today...also big thanks to Texrem,Brightify,Deborah,SureBoy,Deetus (for the mock interview) God bless you all abundantly as you've all been blessings to me...PRAISE THE LORD!!!

I will be very stupid and selfish of me not to share my transcript here. Thank God for Great things he has done. I got approved today, thanks Jesus, the mighty man in battle. Straight to transcript.
Got to embassy at Abuja, then went inside for 9 am, after which we were lined up.
Conversation between me and the VO.
Me:Good morning.
VO:morning, pass your i-20 and passport.
Me: here,
Looked at it for some seconds, then asked why concordia college.
Meh I chose concordia college because of its specialty, it has a student to faculty ratio of 11:1 percent. And it also has a record of its students graduating between four years of starting college or less.
Vo:why economics.
Me: I chose economics because I want to be an entrepreneur and I I have this curiosity of wanting to know why people do what they do, the unlimited wants and needs and I believe that economics will prepare me for a future of been an entrepreneur.
VO: ok, name economists you know.
Meh Lionel robbinson, okonjo iweala, idika kalu idika, ...
VO:okay.
Then begins typing for some times, and I was just praying inside of me that this man should abeg give me the white paper.
The VO turns and said: okay, ur visa has been approved, picks the white paper and gave me with a slip. Wish you well on your studies. I immediately turns to Diego Costa outside the interview hall. I began making the sign of the cross and muller's(my best striker) hand raising celebration, and ran out of the consulate.
Help me thank God ooo.
congratulations

Me: I graduated in 2010
VO: What have you been doing since then?
Me: I started working right after my mandatory National Youth Service at ****** as a Team Lead and I listed out my job description.
VO: So what next after your degree?
Me: I am coming right back to Nigeria to resume in an elevated status as the Technical Operations Director for my company
VO: Where will you be staying when you get to the US?
Me: The School Dormitory
VO: But schools don’t normally make prior reservations for student’s accommodation
Me: I already discussed that with my school’s immigration assistant(mentioned her name) and she has got me covered. (Actually lied on this count, but that was the best I could do undecided)

visa issued on monday(6:30 am)
me- good morning sir
vo- pls give me a litlle time
me-ok sir(he was typing and concentrating and also chilling with his coffee and I was also admiring his mustache and beard)
vo-good morning
me-morning with a warm smile
vo-ass me ur document (passport and I-20)
me-i gave them to him
vo-so what do you want to go and do in east tennessee state university
me-I am going to ETSU to pursue my bachelors degree in chemistry
vo-ok, which city is ETSU
me- johnson city
vo-how many schools did you apply to
me-3( na just one I apply to ooooo but u wont say one if u are truly looking for a visa)
vo-how many gave u admission
me-2
vo-name them
me- ETSU and uni of ARKANSAS
vo-which one rejected
me-Idaho state uni
vo-why ETSU
me-(this is where I finish the job) When I google searched using princetonreview, usnews.com and chemistry.org then I streamlined my researches on schools that perfectly match my area of interest which is chemistry and ETSU seems to be one of them.Though I was accepted to other schools but ETSU became my top priority above others because chemistry is offered as a major while other uni do not do it as a major
vo-u mean uni of ARKANSAS dont take chemistry as a major
me-yes( even though I was not sure)
vo-ok, ok, ok. What will you do with chemistry
me-It will give me the opportunity to work as an analytical and industrial chemist when I return to Nigeria and also it will give me the indepth knowledge and scientific skills to head my father's newly set up food testing laboratory as well as working with the federal government research institutes in Nigeria and in this way, I will be able to contribute into the improvement of human's health in my country Nigeria.
vo-so you will work for the govenment
me-no mainly my dad's food testing laboratoy
vo-so your dad has a laboratory
me-yes( i think he didn't hear it when I mentioned it before)
vo-who will pay for this in your i-20 (tuition fee)
me-my dad
vo-what does he do
me-he is the CEO of al-mubarak travels and tours limited and also the founder of AL-mubis food testing LAB
vo-did your dad study chemistry
me-no
vo-When did he set up the Food testing LAB
me-2013
vo-How was it easy for him to move from a travelling agent to a chemist
me-He his only a founder and not a worker sir and actually my dad has built the LAB all because of me because he has always promise me a LAB right from when I was young because I have always tell him my career prospect is to be an analytical chemist and he also made a promise to send me to the US to study due to their good quality of education.
vo-ok,ok,ok why did you choose chemistry
me-I chose chemistry because when I was in high school, a teacherof mine do ask for our carieer prospect and mine has always make him give an advice to study chemistry.
vo-what do u understand or what have U experienced about the food testing LAB
me-All the expertise in the company do make sur that all food are well tested against contamination like what was discovered some weeks back are people coocking beans cake with plastic which are very dangerous to our health because thos plastics are not ideal for cooking because they are made from hydrocarbons which are made from waste of crude oil.......
vo-ok,ok-I will be issuing ur visa now and bla bla bla which I did not even wait to here.no document was asked. It is not by my power but God alone. I fasted for 30 days and pray mostly in the midnight. My advice do not be appaled on whatever question that is asked because all they want to hear is a reason for u to return to Nigeria and do not be disturbed by the processes taken before getting to the consular officer and neither must u feel aghast if someone's visa is rejected just mind ur business and try to chill with some people before getting in for screeniin just to gain confidence.

congratulations

My Visa Approval transcript......
my appointment was 7am, arrived at the embassy some few minutes before the time, thereafter a lady came to meet us outside and shouted 7am,7;15;7;30 come this way....blahblahblah. did everything and eventually into the visa room. Well, quite crowded as expected. I joined the que thought it was the visa interview queue sef but a lady in the window just collected my document did somethings on the computer and returned my docs then to another queue for finger printing by one bearded big white man, then finally to the real queue...
V.O: Good morning
Me: Good morning
V.O: Can i have your passport (sighted my I-20) and your I-20
Me: Passed it to her
V.O: (typing for a long time) tell me about your program
Me: (something wey i don over read for google) the program is Information Security Management.......(also talking with my hand and we were looking into eachother while she was nodding her head)
V.O: How did you know about the School
Me: My senior colleague is a product of this school also i made my search using the keywoprd information security management so i got some response and i applied to some schools(meanwhile she was nodding her head and typing)
V.O: Who is your Sponsor
Me: My sister
V.O: What does she do
Me: She is an IT practitioner and she also has another business that she does
V.O: Pick up your visa the the address in this paper blah blah blah

My Little advice,
dont be too over concious, u might just find yourself blabbing.
dont keep your confidence till the interview proper, let it start with the first person that attend to you from the window cos who knows approval might start from the first widow-to finger print window- and the interview proper, they are all potential VOs.
Also please PRAY, PRAY and PRAY. i fasted for this and prayed, pls pray. My Course was just a 7-months certification program.
My story too long i guess....OK. I go sharap here.
Thanks to all the gurus.....your effort to potential applicant successful interview is much appreciated
congratulations bro

Lashbeat:
Hi guyz I have been following this thread from the back sit for sometime well this thread has really been of impeccable help I me gaining my visa last monday...like play ...like play I dey go study for jand ....ummm...bad..badoo...badest

kkk lemme just sgare my transcript joor;
My appointment was scheduled for 27th of dec by 9.30am at the american embassy in victoria island lagos omo I stay in dolphin estate si close to the embassy but still my parent made me leave the house has early has 6:00am got to the embassy at 6;38....(omo has I dey come down for maruwa my int' passport fell off and I was walking away like a rat sniffing cheese until on guy called me to see my passport lying on the floor God bless that man for me)..k my first advice don't get to the consular office 3hours prior to your time scheduled... it's so tiring mhen...and have your documents ready expecially your sevis fee receipt else you will spend extra cash 2k to print a new one I fell in that trap and that reminds me don't take your phone oo...those guyz are bastards oo 1k to keep your phone abba' and dress well oo cos it speaks a lot about you oo

okay lemme go staight to my transcripts:

*my head was so good ehn.. cool grin(ori ere ni mo gbe ni ojor yhen) God position one old woman infront of me way no fit speak english rara...I had to interpret what the V.o was saying to her which gave me favour self

alright lemme start

All smiling; grin grinI go kill them today

Me: good morning
V.o: good morning can I have your passport
me : passed it to her
V.o: who is sponsoring you
me: my dad and my uncle(still smiling)
V.o: okay why swosu
me: ( I had practiced what to say at this point but bro I forgot all I had to say in this category..ko funny rara #all them winches got me oo just answered anyhow) I choose swosu cos it met the educational standard and I got to know about the university from my councellor at educational usa(pointing upstairs) at this point the v.o raised her hand and waw using me to talk to one of her colleagues for like 2 min leaving to die in fear...after the whole serere she turned to her computer typed some yama yama and faced me and passed me the almighty white paper at tgis point I was deaf mhen did not listen to all she had to say again was just happy...

so my advice to those going to the usa to study and wanna have visa instantly like I did

1. Pray oo...very hard self..my mama and papa and some of my friends prayed ooo..in my case no long discussion or question just had the vwhite paper sharp sharp..if them deny me ehn...I for go wash my head for elegushi.

2.dress like a student..not too shabby and not too much
3. Staple all your documents together and print the original documents oo
4.don't ever go white your phone oo for real except to have 1k to spare
5. Smile with the v.o act like you know the v.o and has been living with him/her
6. Find a way to ad eac( education advising center inshort go there one Wednesday before your date it is free 9am -1pm..you will learn a lot about visa issues) if you say eyec they can never deny you because narh them them initiate am narh...they no go ask for your id card at all

so that it sorry for my story oo just thanking God

**please who knows how I can get cheap flight to the will roger airport usa holla me on 09053594389

Kisses y' all...signed sealed and delivered...lashbeat badest

congratulations
