I wish Buhari well eventhough I am sceptical about his competence.I beg Nigerians to give him a chance to prove himself before any castigation.Let's give him six months to one year before any assessment.

From the results available so far,Jonathan is defeating Buhari by a landslide in the southeast.From all indications,Buhari is heading back to Duara.

Don't sell it, use it to re-elect Jonathan and It shall be well with you.

It is not bad for Jonathan to say that south east will be considered first.He knows that south east has been marginalised in terms of state creation.The Hausas should not take it as a tribal issue.GEJ knows what he is doing and he will continue to do his best as he will be re-elected on saturday.

Facts are emerging on why prominent Yoruba leaders have vowed not to vote
for the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), General Mohammadu
Buhari (rtd.), in the March 28 presidential elections.

Prominent Yoruba leaders and groups, including the two factions of the
Oodua Peoples Congress (OPF), the Afenifere Renewal Group and individual
Yoruba leaders have sent in a flurry of support and endorsement of the
candidature of incumbent President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan of the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP)

Sources close to the pan-Yoruba cultural group, Afenifere, have blamed the
leader of the APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the woes that befell the
South-West region in the present administration, especially as it concerns
the loss of the Speakership of the House of Representatives.

One of the sources claimed it was Asiwaju Bola Tinubu that sponsored
current Speaker, Aminu Bello Tambuwal, against the only Yoruba candidate to
the post, Mrs. Mulikat Akande.

“The truth is that it was Tinubu’s backing of Tambuwal that eventually
tipped the scale against the Yoruba nation. Because of that, the Yorubas
are nowhere in the pecking order of this government. We are not the
president, we are not the vice, we are not in the Senate and we are not in
the House of Representatives. How do we support someone so selfish that he
has to sell the privileges of the Yoruba nation to outsiders?” the source,
who does not want to be named, said.

He went on to list other alleged sins of Tinubu and was certain that no
Yoruba person worth his heritage would support anything projected by the
man that is also popularly called the Jagaban.

According to the source, “The truth is that Tinubu has practically usurped
the economy of Yoruba’s richest state. As we speak, the economy of Lagos is
Tinubu and Tinubu is the economy of Lagos. We believe in equity and
fairness and we are convinced Tinubu does not represent this.”

The source added that the position of Prof. Yemi Osinbajo as vice
presidential candidate of the APC would have been attractive enough to draw
the Yoruba around the party, but argued that “the role played by Osinbajo
in the usurpation of the Lagos economy and by extension all other
APC-controlled states in the South-West makes this a difficult nut to
swallow.”

“We are aware that Prof. Osinbajo has played a critical role in making
Tinubu one of the richest Nigerians today,” the source said, adding: “As a
lawyer, Osinbajo is a director in all companies directly or remotely linked
to Tinubu. Even where you do not find Tinubu’s name on the board list,
Osinbajo’s name would be there. This suggests that the APC vice
presidential candidate is man that does the dirty money jobs for Asiwaju.
If through him the economies of Lagos and some other Yoruba states have
been taken over by one man, it therefore follows that as Vice President,
the entire country may be heading in the same direction.

“Tinubu is a selfish man. Remember that after riding on the support of
Afenifere and NADECO (National Democratic Coalition) to become governor of
Lagos in 1999, the very first assignment he did after assuming office was
to attempt to destroy our cultural group in order to make himself the
undisputed leader of the Yoruba nation.”

On how they are working to ensure he is stopped this time around, the
source said Afenifere and OPC are working together and sensitising the
people to ensure that President Goodluck Jonathan comes of victorious in
the region and in other parts of the country.

Wisdom for electing Mr. President

As Nigerians troop out in their numbers this Saturday to elect a President to run the affairs of the nation for another four years, as intense and competitive as the pre-election campaigns may have appeared, the people of Africa’s biggest economy have their choices clearly defined for them.

Two candidates, incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan and former head of state, retired General Muhammadu Buhari lead the pack thus making it appear as if there are only two major political parties contesting for the office of President in the 2015 elections – the People’s Democratic Party and All Progressives Congress. There are 12 others in the race.

The towering image of these two leading candidates in a way makes the choice of who to vote for less cumbersome for the electorate. And just as was witnessed in the 2011 Presidential election, Saturday’s election between these two prominent candidates would not be won on the strength of the popularity of their political parties alone rather, voting is most likely to be predicated on people’s perception of both candidates.

And this is the point of departure in similarity between the two leading candidates. While in 2011, President Jonathan earned sympathy votes along ethnic lines and his shoddy treatment prior to the death of President Yar’Adua; in 2015 the President is contesting as a sitting President, an incumbent leader of the most widely spread political party in the country which has dominated Nigeria’s political landscape for 16 years.

Like it or not, the advantages of an incumbent president over that of an ‘untested opponent’ is usually overwhelming especially in third world African politics. Six years of influence and accumulated goodwill cutting across the socio-cultural and political divides of a complex nation like Nigeria is not easily measured by opinion polls as has been witnessed in the past.

Try as much as the opposition APC could, the sitting president has physical structures, emotional bank accounts and sundry vicarious interests to draw from. An election year presents a payback time for these interests and for President Goodluck Jonathan, it is payback time for those his administration has affected, directly or indirectly. And this could be a huge number going by what this government has done across the Nigerian landscape in the last couple of years.

On the other hand, the APC candidate for a greater part of the campaigns has had to contend with an inglorious past which Nigerians, especially those who were old enough at the time he ruled for just 20 months as a military leader would rather put behind them. The burden of a maximum ruler is still heavy on Buhari and this is not made lighter by the continued demonisation of persons in the country who had any role to play in those infamous regimes in which category the APC candidate belongs.

Even the smart attempt made by the ‘new’ managers of Buhari to present him as a repentant, regenerated democrat has only fired the ruling party’s zeal to make known his quite unpopular past to a segment of the electorate that may not know much of the unpopular regime he headed and how that military incursion into the nation’s life stunted the growth of democracy in Nigeria.

Unfortunately, the two elements upon which the Buhari candidature has been anchored – fight against corruption and a military background ripe enough to deal with insurgency that became an issue in certain part of the country, appear to have collapsed on account of the unpleasant corruption rating of the dominant members of the APC and the sudden rise of the Nigerian military against the Boko Haram insurgency.

In the absence of the two subjects above, candidate Buhari is left bare as he was the three previous times he contested for the same office in 2003, 2007 and 2011. Aside a few marginal changes, the result this Saturday may not differ much for both candidates as it was in 2011.

Whatever may appear to be President Jonathan’s losses in terms of the five PDP governors, certain senators and members of the House of Representatives who left the party and aligned with the APC, is more than compensated for by some dramatic popular programmes that he has initiated in the last six years, even though the opposition has laboured throughout the campaigns to downplay them as insignificant.

As difficult as it may be for those in the opposition camp to accept this unequal match of their candidate with an incumbent president, Saturday’s election as close as many analysts had described it still present the electorate with the devil they know on one hand and an angel they are ignorant about on the other.

It is indeed a tall order for the retired army general to imagine a defeat of an incumbent President who have somewhat succeeded to own the entire country as his constituency in the last four years and who has emerged as the best face of democracy that most citizens have ever known. This certainly is the wisdom that will guarantee victory to one candidate and loss to the other at the polls this Saturday.

Some of the people blind folded by the APC toga of 'change' do not clearly understand what they are getting into, while I agree that you have some decent elements in the party APC. Yes decent human beings that are better respected and even I regard as great mentors of society and generations to come. This class of people are well liked and highly respected individuals that you may not compare them with some rascals and truants that you may find in other parties. I often wonder why the APC is a party filled with 'strange bed fellows', if you check the composition of the APC you would discover that it is a party filled predominantly of desperate and disgruntled politicians from the PDP and other parties.

As a young boy my dad often warned me not to have any form of dealings with a desperate individual and that by so doing I would have my fingers burnt and regret it afterwards. As he would say "a desperate man can kill", this frightening words have never left my mind since I was a boy. A lot of young people do not understand what dangers these desperate men you currently have in the APC portends to the security, peace and unity of Nigeria as a country that's why I call on the decent few I have earlier described that are still within their rank and file, and also young boys and girls who never knew the antecedents of these desperate characters to please 'shine your eyes'. Pastor Tunde Bakare even said it better "I trust Buhari but I don't trust the environment that he is in". Get this right Buhari is not a demon, nor is he demented but matter of fact is that as the saying goes "The evil that men do lives with them".
Buhari's and his many sins
1. Human rights: Because of Buhari and Babaginda, Fela Anikulapo Kuti composed several songs like 'Overtake don overtake overtake', 'Animal in human skin', 'Animal can't dash us human rights'. Fela may have been a 'prophet' of his time. I agree with him though in some of his words, if you have abused the rights of others you can't turn around now and pretend to 'dash' us human rights under the pretence of Change. A leopard cannot change its spots. Buhari ceased power in 1983 and systematically abused Nigerians of their rights of justice and fair hearing. Politicians were accused of bogus crimes of corruption and tried under kangaroo courts, while there may have been a few who were corrupt, the innocent were not spared. They were given heavy sentencing some as much as 323 years. The trauma such people as Ambrose Ali faced in prison was what killed him afterwards. Like Ahmadu Bello, Ambrose Ali after massively developing Bendel state had to his credit only one small bungalow in his home town.
2. Decree 4 and Decree 2: He was infamous for his constant harassment of the Press and Civil rights groups as a means of concealing the truth from ordinary Nigerians. At will he threw people into jail without any form of charge and such journalist as Nduka Irabor would tell you of their experiences. Some were tortured and are still traumatised till today, some even lost their lives in the process.

(Reuters) – Two Chadian army helicopters bombed Nigerian Boko Haram

positions on Sunday, killing several dozen militants near a village on the
border with Niger, a senior Niger military official told Reuters.

Niger and Chadian soldiers have been fighting the Islamist militants in a
joint mission with Nigeria and Cameroon since March 2, in a bid to end
Boko Haram’s six-year insurgency in northern Nigeria that is threatening
regional stability.

The helicopters destroyed several vehicles and motorcycles carrying
fighters in the Nigerian village of Djaboullam, which lies east across the
border from the Niger town of Diffa, the Niger officer said.

“Niger and Chad had received intelligence that a group of Boko Haram
fighters had gathered in the border village,” the officer said.
The Niger military officer, who requested anonymity, said Boko Haram
fighters had moved to Djaboullam after they were chased from other towns
by the Nigerian army. Militants were also gathering in other border towns
from where they routinely launch mortar rounds into Niger, he said.

“We know they are massing in Malam Fatori, waiting for us to come,” he
said, referring to another northeast Nigerian town about three kilometres
(2 miles) from Bosso, the nearest town across the border in Niger.

The regional offensive launched this year comes as Nigeria, Africa’s most
populous country and biggest economy, prepares to hold elections on March
28.

The offensive has succeeded in driving the militants from several towns
and districts they previously held. Chad and Niger forces captured the
town of Damasak from the militants last week.

Buhari's and his many sins

Politicians were accused of bogus crimes of corruption and tried under kangaroo courts, while there may have been a few who were corrupt, the innocent were not spared. They were given heavy sentencing some as much as 323 years. The trauma such people as Ambrose Ali faced in prison was what killed him afterwards. Like Ahmadu Bello, Ambrose Ali after massively developing Bendel state had to his credit only one small bungalow in his home town.

Interestingly of all these sets of people that were in Nigeria Buhari singled out Ghanians and sent them packing without any form of compensation and compassion. If you must note during the civil war a lot of Nigerians ran to Ghana to take cover even Nnamdi Azikiwe schooled in Ghana. Some of these Nigerians that escaped the civil war married their Ghanian girl friends and boy friends and returned to Nigeria after the war was over. To be sent packing in such a manner was indeed callous, and painfully some were forced to leave with just only a bag irrespective of the wealth or properties that they had accumulated from decent hard work. So young people as you go out to the shops to buy that 'Ghana must go' bag without knowing truly why they call those bags with such a name, now you know.
4. Economic policies: I don't need again to explain to you that Buhari is bereft of ideas when it comes to economic issues and the handling of the economy. Start with the reprinting of the naira when he ceased power. As a boy we were jubilant that we were seeing the new face of the naira, what we didn't understand then was the economic impact and the implications. His excuse for doing so was that corrupt politicians who had stolen funds hidden under their beds may not be able to exchange their cash for the new currency. The impact of this together with his import license policy helped to devalue the naira and rubbish it's exchange power. Before he ceased power the naira had a strong exchange value against major currencies for decades the naira had been exchanging for £1.00/N2.00 and $1.00/0.60 kobo. For the first time ever it was during Buhari's regime that the naira started to depreciate in value. It's laughable when now he is the same person shouting that naira is exchanging at $1.00/N220.00. Even with this all is not lost as the Chinese and Japanese constantly and intentionally devalue their currency as a means to curbing dumping of products and hence boosting local production. Now the desperate politicians are encouraging him to make promises like building four refineries, free education, free lunch, monthly stipends and allowances for jobless youths and so on without proper economic planning and drafting.

To me that's being a true statesman.
