14: I started hearing about Eko atlantic 17yrs ago, everything seems to be going at snail pace. For intant, Sandton city was started in 1995, now its very big, it has become the financial hub of Africa. Dubai started in 1988, and manifested fully in 2002, and stop lying, you didn't start hearing about Eko Atlantic 17years ago, maybe since 2010, and it was mostly about building the 6km wall of Lagos to prevent the water. |

14: This study put Nigeria’s middle class at 4.1m or a mere 11% of the population. It estimated the middle-class population to account for just 21% of Angola’s households, 14% of Sudan’s, and around 10% of Zambia’s. Furthermore, Standard Bank’s research found that most African households remained in a low-income band − an overwhelming 94m individuals, or 86% of the sample population.

I hit with facts, not fake numbers. 4.1 million is not 11% of our population. And if you agree with the study, do you also agree it is the largest in the continent? |

14: Skyscrapers, if not occupied, mean nothing, become white elephant. Ask Angola who paid chinese companies billions for building a Ghost city. Lol, Eko Atlantic for instance is getting booked by the day by wealthy Nigerians at home and would also be occupied by Nigerians in diaspora. |

As you can see, the data above talks about middle class households and says it's the largest in Africa, the problem is that 4.1 million is not close to 11% of the population. |

Nigeria, which is Africa’s biggest economy and has the largest African population, is leading the growth of new middle-class households on the continent with an estimated 7.6-million to be added in the next 16 years. Nigeria's middle class grew by 600% between 2000 and 2014 giving the country 4.1-million middle-class households at present, which is 11% of its total population. |

14: More recent data from EIU Canback, a consultancy (and sister-company of The Economist), show some growth (see chart) in the decade to 2014 but it is painfully slow: 90% of Africans still fall below the threshold of $10 a day and the proportion in the $10-$20 middle class (excluding very atypical South Africa), rose from 4.4% to only 6.2% between 2004 and 2014; over the same decade, the proportion defined as “upper middle” ($20-$50 a day) went from another 1.4% to 2.3%. Other surveys are also disappointing. Standard Bank, a South African lender, thinks that though the number has increased, there are still only 15m middle class households in 11 of sub-Saharan Africa’s bigger economies (excluding South Africa and using a range of $15-$115 a day).
https://www.economist.com/news/middle-east-and-africa/21676774-africans-are-mainly-rich-or-poor-not-middle-class-should-worry You have to be careful with some of these studies, for example your study agrees with another that says Nigerian middle class is 4.1 million, which is merely 11% of the population, bu 4.1 million is not 11% of the population. Read this article as well, it gives thesame false data but says Nigeria has the largest middle class on the continent. https://www.google.de/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://blog.standardbank.com/node/61428&ved=0ahUKEwiPlaHEm63WAhWZF8AKHRU_BI4QFgguMAM&usg=AFQjCNEFLNbDw7uNnM1BHpQbXTCJzB7K_g |

14: According to stats research of 2015, Nigeria had 1.4m middle class and South africa had 35m people considered middle class. Hence you have people subscribed to Dstv in South africa at 6m subscribers whereas in nigeria is 1.6m subscribers, those numbers says a lot.
South africa has more than 2000 malls and Nigeria has only 28, its all about the buying power. What stats? Provide it. Nigeria has always had the largest middle class in Africa at least since 2011, and it is above 40 million, maybe you didn't understand what you read. |

GhanaMustGoo: First of all, the overseer is someone of proven impeccable character. On top of that you have a team of people of proven impeccable character whose sole job is to audit and monitor the overseer. LET ME SEE HOW A DIEZANI OR MAMA PEACE CAN HAPPEN. IMPOSSIBLE!! How do you get such people? What if he becomes corrupted by power. In my opinion the solution is by amending the constitution to give power to the people, and there should be a national forum for every state and local Government where Government activities are publicized. The people should have the right thru various organizations to rally together for the impeachement of unserious Governors or LGC's with little transparency in 2 years. Also we need just one house in the national assembly not two. Also State House of Assembly and Local Governments should be the most active and powerful bodies in Nigeria, but they are so docile. |

shervydman: don't get it wrong......$ is just a currency, many African countries live below $1 daily, not because we're poor but because our currency is weak. I spend below $1 most days too.....it doesn't mean I'm poor. 1 dollar is 305 naira, a farmer in sokoto should be comfortable with 200 naira in a day, infact in some Urban states like Benin, a well to do person doesn't have to spend more than 600 naira a day. |

Obi1kenobi: Inequality is worse in Nigeria than South Africa and most African countries. That is why despite a GDP per capita that is better than many countries across West, East and Central Africa, Nigeria ranks right at the bottom of many development indices with counties like Somalia. Nigeria has a wealthy elite with shortcuts to great wealth (which the basterds often stash or invest abroad), a small middle class and massive impoverishment among the masses.
South Africa to be fair has a welfare system miles above Nigeria which limits the most extreme levels of poverty. There are still problems though bridging the massive wealth gap between the white and Asian minorities and black South Africans. The welfare system in SA should not be encouraged in Nigeria. |

AIG07: If Leicester will be making any mark this season- one thing they'll have to do is change their coach/manager. How can you have a team comprising of Slimani(I still rate this dude), Vardy, Mahrez, Oka, even our own Musa in the front and still can't harness these potentials to play a decent game that will make you a mid-table team still baffles me. Musa has not even been making the bench so far. |

Jayceon: The world only know Motsepe because he is the most famous, there are others.but here is something that always puzzles me about naija mindset, what benefits do you guys get from celebrating few wealthy people who live in gated neighborhoods while 110 million other are starving? Any logical explanation? 110 million people are not starving, it's fake stats and not close to reality. In the North, even the poorest are farmers, and agriculture is the largest employer of labour in Nigeria. Also we have about 97million mobile internet active subscribers, about the fifth largest in the world. This 70% poverty stats has been there for ages, but the World Bank reverted to 33% in 2015, though the NBS maintained their stand, but then although Nigeria has many problems, 70 percent poverty does not correlate with the reality on ground especially if you also accept the 14% unemployment rate which is low. Also apart from the BokoHaram region, (which has had their major problem for just 5years now)starvation or famine is not a word that occurs in thesame sentence with Nigeria. |
