Blackspider: i might be wrong here but, dark and black are two different things. Those who watches black clover will understand. Dark elves to my knowledge are elves that has been corrupted. Your knowledge is limited. Dark elves in Norse mythology have dark skin.

Owopariola001: You're the ignorant here. Which blacks in white folklore, to the extent of being a high class? Face reality. It's white folklore, there is nothing concerning black race in it.
It's like a Yoruba folklore having "okonkwo" inside. Or Igbo folklore having "Akanbi omo olodo ide" Does that make sense? Does that make those folklore writers a tribalist?
You're the one thinking your race not being in white folklore makes your race less human.
That's low self-esteem bro. Damn bro, you dumb asf.

Owopariola001: Be calming down bro. African folklore doesn't include white, why will white folklore include blacks? Most especially black aristocrats with white hair. Face reality, this is not an issue of racism. Except you have low self-esteem of your race. Your posts reeks of arrogant ignorance atypical with house negroes. Dark skinned characters have been a part of European folklores since the dawn of time. European folklores have species ranging from Humans, leprechauns to dragons and minataurs. These species come in all kinds of skin coloration ranging from white, green to brown and black. Greeks folklores have Ethiopians in them. The Dutch have a black figure in their folklore called black Pete. The Scandinavians have black elves, dwarves. Etc. The construct that TRoP is a white folklore and hence shouldn't have blacks in it is a construct borne out of ignorance and hatred. It's a racist construct that has no place in the 21st century. |

Kaycee7: It's kinda funny how it's easier for some folks to accept the fücking dragons than a black dude in a fantasy series. It's beyond ridiculous. decades of digesting western propaganda machine has conditioned these people to equate blackness to bad. Of course, they're divorced from the fact that they have black skin too. |

Owopariola001: It was even better than House of Dragon which used a "very black" man with white hair. I mean, though it may be possible like blacks in the Solomon Islands, that's not a usual thing among blacks. Plus a black noble in a prehistory period married a white princess? Nah. You lot are basically regurgitating the racist rhetorics of white conservatives. Like dude, look at your skin ffs. You're a black man, you're basically agreeing with white supremacist that you're subhuman. I find it funny when these self loathing black folks appropriate racist ideologies that were designed to denigrate people of color and parrot these ideologies just to "own the libs". Like dude, you ain't white. By denigrating inclusiveness and political progression, you're basically admitting that you're inferior to your white masters. If inclusiveness = wokeness/political correctness, then I'm woke asf. Wise up y'all ffs. |

crackhaus: Oga go sleep... Rid yourself of the inferiority complex dogging your path and influencing your mental equilibrium and be proud of your skin color. Be proud that the black race is getting a deserve representation in a great show. Cheers. |
TV/Movies › Re: What Series Are You Watching Now? Part 2 by Frostyzone(m): 7:44pm On Sep 04, 2022 |
crackhaus: Firstly, are you sure you have read the works of Tolkien? You won't claim this if you had, or at least did some reading on how he described Elves.
Secondly, who told you that Dark Elves are referred to as such because of their skin colour? You never heard of Light Elves, no? I guess these ones should be strictly Caucasian if we go by your logic abi...
Cheers... First and foremost, Tolkein didn't invent the concept, he merely borrowed from it. As such, elves can be whatever color writers want them to be. Dark elves in Norse mythology have black skin. In some translation, they are called black elves. I don't mind seeing white people shit on TRoP on twitter because of the diverse cast but it's embarrassing and damning to come online and see some black people shit on the show for the same reason. People like you have come to believe wholeheartedly whatever western media feeds you to the extent that you believe that black characters don't belong in medieval fantasies. It's sad to see. |

crackhaus: On The Rings of Power, who else thinks they're doing too much with casting people of colour in the show?
Before anyone comes for me and accuses me of being a self-hating black man, try to pause for a minute and understand.
I totally get how casting black actors can be a noble idea considering how racially sensitive the world has become, but when it becomes too much, too unnecessary in some circumstances, and above all TOO obvious, then it starts to look forced & deliberate.
I will try not to make comparisons, but HOTD has done a better job at colour-casting than TROP has done, and it's for this one very obvious reason — HOTD did it without making it look forced.
TROP has us looking at black Elves (really? I thought Elves are known to have pale-skin with distinct colour of eyes), then there are black Dwarves (perhaps this could be overlooked), black Harfoots (not quite sure the purpose of having actors of colour included here).
Even with those characters they called Travellers/Hunters who had less than 2mins of screen time, they still managed to make one of them black.
Indeed it feels too deliberate, too forced... and honestly, once I start seeing that, then the novelty of it wears off and it starts to look patronizing.
Other than that, a good show overall... I am enjoying/will enjoy both HOTD and TROP to the fullest. Dude you're just a self loathing black man. If all the characters are white, I bet you wouldn't have any problem with it. There's nowhere it's written that elves can only be strictly white, in fact, dark elves exist in many lores. In Scandinavian lore in which LotR is based on, Dark elves are among the oldest known species in existence. Ditto dwarves. |

Abeg how is UK a Christian country? We only know of Muslim countries who use Islam as their main system of government in one form or the other. Which country uses the Bible as their system of Government?
Chai! See reasoning for naija! Dude, England's flag is literally a cross, what other proof do you need? In addition, English common law is based on the Bible. Plus majority of the population of the UK are Christians. |

RuneKingThor: Some midrange Androids are currently better than the old iPhones.
Then if it's current iPhones likes the 11 and 12, then the likes of Xiaomi, Samsung, Google pixel, OnePlus, even Vivo and Oppo sef will stand toe to toe or are even better. Example the Xiaomi mi 11 Ultra is currently the best smartphone camera-wise in the world currently. Just check out YouTube. Dude, YouTube reviews are often paid and thus not dependable. Best way of determining the best smartphones is by handling them yourself. |

TheKingIsHere: Nice write up, however, I disagree on some movies in your list;
1. Coming to America: Though, the sequel is coming out yearsss after the main movie, people will still come out to watch it for these reasons; a) People loved the first movie b) Eddie Murphy was amazing in "Dolemite is my name" and i believe this has rejuvenated his BO clout.
With a good story that still finds a way to attach itself to the first film, good marketing campaign and quality acting, this movie will be successful
2. Dune: This movie will not flop, and here is why. a)Dune is seen as the star wars for matured audience and have attracted a lot of interest from people, especially SW fans. Of late, star wars fans haven't been too impressed with the childish stuff disney is dishing out and are highly intrigued. b) It has a good script and i believe the studio has learnt from its mistakes made in the 80s dune...The first dune that came out in the 80s was a flop because of the bad script and the studio trying to squeeze the whole story into one film back then..This time around, it will have a good script and be broken down into a trilogy for better assimilation from its viewers. c) The Xmas season will definitely boost its BO legs..Just like TROS benefited from the season break, dune will also benefit from the same season break which will lead to more money at the BO. d) The director is a renowned director and people are actually interested to see how he will portray this epic novel movie.
3. New Mutants: Though the movie has taken too long to be released (3 yrs+), it has a 30% chance of still succeeding and not be an outright flop. With the release of a new trailer for mutants, it has attracted a lot of interest from viewers who were not interested in watching it at first. Although, the xmen franchise has suffered some sort of hate from the domestic fans in the US, i see it doing well overseas (esp in UK, china and Japan). If Disney pushes and markets this film well, it will make profits.
4. Godzilla vs Kong: This is another highly anticipated movie as people want to see who will be the real king of monsters is...Will it be kong or godzilla? The last movie flopped due to bad script and no connection from the audience to the KOM film...however, with kongs presence, i believe that there will be more connections from the audience to the movie which will boost its BO performance.
***These are my thoughts...we just have to see how these movie turn out at the BO.
WHAT ARE YOUR TOP 5 ANTICIPATED MOVIES OF 2020? A much more sensible analysis (C6). |

abduleez1: My 2020 Top 10 Fated/potential Blockbuster Movie FLOPS ................................what's yours??
Every year has it's Winners and Losers at the box office. Some blockbusters which look like surefire bets at times turn out FLOPS; some are Fated to flop, some just outright disappoint and turn flops. Without further ado, here's my "potential FLOP" list in no particular order. NB: It's just predictions and necessarily doesn't mean it'll turn out exactly as predicted. Just for fun and general Box office outlook.
Sonic: The Hedgehog..... (Paramount) Just seems Fated to flop, even moreso after it's extra expenses in redesign of Sonic after fans backlash on an estimated $90mn production budget.
Bloodshot....... (Sony) This looks like an outright FLOP from the Valiant Comics adaptation. Nothing spectacular to draw general public in. Not even Vin Diesel can save it.
The New Mutants ......(Fox/Disney) This one is a Bloody FLOP with it's numerous change in release dates (4 times)— something we could have seen since 2018! Disney seems Fated to continue losing on this Fox buyout for a while.
Artemis Fowl ....... (Disney) Looking like a potential FLOP.
Fantasy Island ........ (Sony) Potential FLOP.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife ...... (Paramount) Outright FLOP in the making!
Monster Hunter ....... (Sony Screen Gems) Gonna FLOP. Game adaptations for live action movie have a history of not doing too well at the box office. Even the Director of this movie have a not so glamorous game adaptation history. Although things might be different for Sony's December "Uncharted" movie starring Tom Holland.
Coming To America 2 ......... (Paramount) Possesses some potential FLOP vibes, coming after 32 years for a sequel! And Eddie Murphy's lost his box office mojo/clout.
GI Joe: Ever Vigilant .......(Paramount) Possesses outright FLOP vibes.
Dune .......... (Warner Bros.) Potential FLOP especially since the first live action adaptation was a Flop. I'm hard pressed to include this in my LIST. I honestly don't see it as an outright flop but maybe a lesser disappointment cause of it's Killer CAST. That CAST alone is "Butt in Seats" guaranteed, also Denis Villeneuve has some critical pedigree. Even the release date pushed to December holidays makes it a likely HIT, with slight competition in a season with no Star Wars or clear Box office Juggernaut except The Croods 2.
PS: I just feel this is the most likely WB blockbuster movie to be a FLOP— even a better candidate Flop than Kong vs Godzilla. I just included it to make it more Transparent, objective and seemingly Unbiased.
** Seems Universal escaped...hmmm. it's looking like a super duper YEAR for Universal. IMHO. OOH I FORGOT DOLITTLE, it's out already and a FLOP TOO. Half-baked analysis (F9). Internet has turned everyone into a movie pundit, esp those that don't have the slightest idea of what they're talking about.
