Come on, if BA is dreadful then what would you say about Thor: love and thunder?

If that useless and childish superhero movie could make more than $700 million, then BA should have made more than that because in my opinion, BA is miles better.

They are both equally bad but in different ways.

The key to Thor 4's relative success is due to it being part of the MCU. It basically rode on the coattail of MCU goodwill.

Being a standalone, Black Adams doesn't have that luxury.

Can we put an end to the notion that DJ is a titan in Hollywood and that his films are box office smashes?

Aside from his F&F and Jumanji films, his films tend to perform mediocrely. San Andreas, Skyscraper, Rampage, and so on... none of these films did particularly well at the box office.

With Black Adam being a financial flop, I believe it's time to reconsider his status as a box office titan.

San Andreas smashed the box office bro. Big part of it was down to the Rock's star power.

Avatar hitting $1 billion or surpassing $1 billion isn't surprising, it's undebatable, it's destined to surpass $1 Billy.

Black Adam being a box office b.omb is shocking and devastating, like a whole Dwayne Johnson movie flopped so hard and i was even predicting $1 Billy before? cheesy
I think not being released in China affected the revenue.

Black Adam deserved to flop. The movie is dreadful. China's release wouldn't have made much of a difference.

Rewatched Glass Onion.

It's so good. The 2nd and 3rd acts are brilliant.

Everybody gets to shine but Daniel Craig and the pretty black lady are my standouts.

Shoutout to Ethan Hawk whose cameo went unnoticed on first watch. grin

Shining girls 9.5/10
Beautifully written show and a pretty good ending.
Definitely one of the best shows I've seen this year.

The peripheral next.

Glad you enjoyed it.

The Peripheral is the weakest of the trio but worth a watch.

Funny how the villain share similarities with a certain techy billionaire. A techy billionaire who fancies himself a genius but is in actuality a complete fvcking idiot.

It won't...Above Thor but below Dr Strange...

Lack of China release will affect it for sure but I don't think it will deter it from grossing a billion.

The initial WOM is A.

It's expected to gross 180m this weekend alone. Might even gross more due to the fact that it's veterans day in USA and remembrance day in Canada. A lot of people will have a day off to go see the movie.

The real threat is Avatar 2 which has less than 35 days to world premiere but even so, BP2 will have enough time to surpass MoM, as long as it replicates the incredible legs of the first film, which I think it will.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)

Best Marvel phase 4 film since NWH.

Some fight scenes kinda underwhelmed and the plot kinda lulled in the second act, but overall, it's a very mature cinematic experience, the kind that will stay with you for days.

Rumors about Killmonger cameo were true.

Namor puts the cool in flying, he's agile and dope asf

This is a worthy palette cleanser after having tasted the train wrecks called Black Adam & Thor 4. This movie will gross a billion easily.

Black Adam (2022)

Porncorn flick. Very enjoyable but forgettable.

Pierce Brosnan carried the movie.

The Rock failed to convince me that's he's Black Adam. All I could see was him portraying himself just like he has always done.

This movie will do relatively well but it's not a billion dollar movie.

Black Adam (2022) [Revised review]

Awful film. Lacks substance.

More forgettable than ever.

Kanye has been slowly cancelling himself over the last decade. This is just the last straw that broke the camels back.

Dude went from George Bush doesn't care about black people to slavery was a choice. Used to be my fav rapper and one that could be identified with as he embraced his middle class background and did not form gangsta/hard man. To this day through the wire is one of my favorite songs.

But once his mum passed he had no anchor and has been on a downward spiral since. Who the fk marries a kardashian. That was when jayz started giving him distance. No mix me with your yama yama abegi.

Then all that nonsense cyberstalking of Pete Davidson. On top wetin?

Kanye just kept doing himself is all.

You're the first to make sense here. Kanye is Kanye's worst enemy. The man can't shut up to save his own life. Has the tendency to spew colorful rubbish.

He has not only succeeded in alienating himself from the Jewish community but also the black community after saying slavery was a choice, and backed it up by saying Chauvin didn't kill George Floyd. Kanye is crazy mehn.

I heard he's no longer a billionaire since Adidas cut him off. According to TMZ, he lost 60% of his fortune tied in with Adidas deal, so he's now worth $400 million. Big woops.

If you want to resurrect a dead thread, all you need to do is post something on it and voila...

At bolded....is that not an oxymoron? Finding it hard to see how one can forget what he or she very much enjoyed.
'Enjoyable' and 'Forgettable' depending on the context are not mutually exclusive. Like I enjoyed 6 Underground and even laughed a few times but can't for the life of me remember the plot afterwards. Usually happens when the plot is very basic. They are called popcorn flick for a reason.

oyaskii:

Second paragraph....is there any characteristics that "Black Adam" is supposed to have that "The Rock" failed to portray? Charisma? Charm? Brute?

I merely dropped some of my takeaways from the movie, and if you haven't watched it, the things I said won't make sense to you.

Lol, I don't think or see any universe Shazam is grossing Aquaman numbers. grin
The highest that movie could have seen is around $600mn.
I will never forgive WB for that distribution blunder in 2019 sandwiching Shazam in between two big marvel movies, especially in a time when they were huge question marks in DCEU.

Aquaman did have a superb holiday Xmas season to buoy it. As well as a humongous China gross to boost it. Aquaman also had cameos in previous movies that had already made him familiar to general audience. Shazam didn't have that.
With these indices I don't see how Shazam was matching Aquaman.
Even it's sequel Fury of The Gods can't hope for that billion dollar.

People often forget that Shazam is the closest DC movie to the Marvel formula - which, for better or worse, just works.

In an alternate universe where Shazam didn't have Endgame and CM to content with, I'd like to believe it charmed its way into the prestigious billion dollar club.

I hated the Shazam movie tho...
Along with Captain Marvel they were the worst movies I watched in 2019

Maybe the reason it didn't generate as much is cos the movie was terrible?

Hind sight is 20/20.

At the time it happened, it's forgivable to think this way since you're not privy to all the variables, but looking back now, it's clear as daylight as to why Shazam didn't do Aquaman kind of numbers.

Personally I think Shazam was a better movie than Aquaman and could have outgrossed Aquaman or on par, if WB had waited till the 3rd quarter to release it.

As for Captain Marvel, it was a resounding success story mainly because it rode on the goodwill that Endgame hype generated. Smart marketing by Marvel.

Shazam held it own against Endgame, a culmination 20+ movies and did fine, I think it was moved because WB don’t want it to do just fine at the box office, they want it to do excellent numbers. If they wanted the previous BO return, they’d leave it at the December date.

You'd expect a superhero movie on a budget of 100m to at least gross 500m especially since its word of mouth was very positive, no? The box office return failed to match the reception, which can only be surmised that it took a beating from Captain Marvel and later on, Endgame. Technically, it didn't bomb but I couldn't help but wonder what could have been if WB hadn't release it so close to the competition.

At least, they have learned from the past.

Being pg13 doesn't necessarily mean another project that is also PG-13 is catering to the same demographic.
Shazam is PG-13 but you can't say its in the same demographic as something like The Batman cos it's also PG-13. We all know who turned up for Batman; definitely not kids.

Age as well as gender and ethnicity decides demographics. Not only if it's rated PG for general consumption. Is it mainly for white male? Black female or Hispanic?
I think Shazam is more geared towards 18 yr olds and lesser. While Avatar is geared towards an older audience especially since the movie premiered 13yrs ago. The people who grew up with it will be older now this pushing up its age range.
Genre also plays a role. Shazam 2 is action comedy while Avatar is Sci fi, Fantasy & adventure.
Avatar 2 will most likely appeal to adult white males more.

Nah, Avatar 2 is family friendly in that it's geared towards the general audience albeit with caveat that anyone below 13 years must be chaperoned. Demographic in this context simply entails the general audience, nothing more. The first Avatar wouldn't be the highest grossing film ever if it's specifically designed to appeal to a niche group.

Ditto Shazam 1&2. It's geared towards the general audience but with some content that might be inappropriate to people under 13 years.

The same people that would troop in to watch Avatar 2 will also troop in to watch Shazam 2. In this scenario, genre doesn't really matter. Besides, when you break Shazam 1&2 genre into their rudimentary components, you'd see that they do have elements of sci-fi in them. The sum of these rudimentary components is what we call genre.
