@ thread poster. Take Tayogeorge advice and choose a field you have passon for. I only need to add that you MUST learn from a successful person in the field to know the bumps. N1.7M is a lot of money even in Nigeria but if not managed prudently, it can burn off within a twinkle. I wish you well. |

" NO MAN IS TRULY FREE WHO WORKS FOR ANOTHER MAN" |
From rags to riches. How I wish my friends who said Graduates should not drive cabs see this. Big things start small, we have been told this from youth and we see it everyday. Razaq Okoya, the patriach of Eleganza started with wrist watches at Obun Eko. Michelin, the tyre octopus was started by a father and son on bicycle. |
Yes, it is true. I have witnessed where 2 young doctors saved the life of a young woman involved in an accident using a torchlight and lantern. They were looking for a nerve around the ankle and they shaved her head in the process. It was that night I knew the shape of a womans head is not different from the mans, minus the hairs, that is. With all these limitations in the country I give kudos to the Nigerian doctor. Iwill surely give my chair to a doctor on his feet no matter his age. |
Well deserved, both Osaze and Siasia. Osaze is the only reason some people are still talking about 2010. His performance and commitment on Sunday could not have been bettered by any of the fathers of Nigeria, were they to have resurrected and put on the jersey. Now, where is the guy rubbishibg Osaze in this forum the other day? He should cover his face in shame. |
@bidemi12. and Wolexojo You call 4 years in the uuniversity payment of dues? Dues ko duisi ni . The payment of dues has just stated. As for me I prefer to drive cab here to driving whites in Europe or USA. I refuse to be a slave to dollars or Euro. On the lighter mood, are you by chance the guy who sold his fathers house to get visa to Europe only to end up washing plates. On hearing that her son wash plates to suvive in Europe, the mother, a prominent food seller retorted, paga, komode yi ti kuku wa ma fo abo lodomi. The other day I shook the hand of a friend just returning from England, the palm was like sand papper. I told him to come back home and find something better to do. The palm of a graduate driving his own cab wold be smoother. It will be smoothened with pepper soup oil Now,You have not debunked the fact that a serious graduate with a new cab will best even a level 12 officer in the ministry You have not refuted the fact that there are graduates among the BRT drivers. All you guys are doing is gragara grandstanding .Gragra of beer bottle without content. |
Some of the comments here amuse me. I guess most of them are from people with what we Nigerians calll good job. I beg, what is wrong with graduates driving a cab? If the cabs are brand new, each will be worth about N3m. Now that is N3m investment and you say it is too mean for a graduate. Please spare me. The problem I see in this is that, the right thing is beign done by the wrong person. If this were to be initiated by Fasola, people will take acres of newspaper space to celebrate it. I bet there are graduates among the BRT drivers. What is the difference? I have no tears for Akala. A governor gallivanting all over the place with ankle chain and fanta skin deserves all the arrows fired at him. Now this cab idea is bam. You start making money the first day you open shop. It is surely better than a level 8 job in the secretariat. Nigerians like easy money. We want to sit dowm, lazy away and collect salary at the end of the month. Japan was not built like that. Productivity is the word. We want to work on shoe string, build a house at age 50 and retire to collect pension which the harsh economic condition will not allow us to grow old enough to collect. If I were a 25 year old graduate I will prefer the cab to a level 8 job. At 30 I would have built a house and have about 3 cars in my fleet. Again, if I were an unemployed Pharmacist I will take this cab and build my pharmacy within 5 years and get off the road. Transport business is a cash cow. I will refer nairalanders to success digest extra of March 3rd 2009, page 20. You will read the story of a chemistry graduate who took to okada after 6 years of fruitless seach for work. He has built a N6m house and has more than 20 bikes in his fleet. His brother who he was managing with is still in their rented house with his salary job. Goverments are not supposed to create jobs per see, the private sector does. Government is to provide the infrastructure, the enviroment and monitor. The big factories in Europe where the Engineers work were not built by their governments, If you have a job in Mobil or Guiness, good luck, that is easier but if you are not so lucky are you going to stay like that for years and waste your very productive years when you have options like this to make things better for yourself?. A university degree does not mean you have to do white collar jobs. We should learn how to take our future in our hands. After my NYSC and 6 years working experience, I hawked my product in Lagos buses those days . My spoken English simply made the sales for me. A degree holder can drive cabs and nothing demaning about that. |
@calmguyj (m) would you be kind enough to let me know how to get the software? can reach me at jidolconsul005@yahoo.com |
I have just finished a book, about 140 pages targeted at our graduates. It is all about getting our graduates off the road and be gainfully employed. I inted to market it both on line and off line.Would nairalanders who are experienced on matters like this give tips on the cheapest and best way to go about it. Ideas like forums , sites and papers to advertise in. You can post here or reach me through jidolconsul005@yahoo.com |
stagger:Stagger, You can sell for 5 Naira or more and I tell you the market is huge. Check that sentence, it appears verbatim in both contributions. That is the proof. The sentnces are too exact to have come from different sources. Besides, the flow of language is the same. |
@Akin Alabi, Your tone is a bit on the high horse. You people teach us to be civil to our clients. If your client loses his head, you keep yours. I am sure, unless pushed to the very extreme, Dr. Ojeagbese will not talk like that. Akin, die die, you have so much to do for us on this www business. |
These guys in London are doing well. Let this happen in Washinghton, in Ontario, in Hamdurg, In New York , in Lagos and all places we have Nigerians. Whan the water boils the Perriminckle will know the end is near. As fot this AG, it is only in Nigeria a guy with such pedigree can get to such exaulted position. Wehave work to do. God help us. |
Saddam Some of you Nairalanders are gteat you know. This ribadu/Gani photo na wa. As fo Onovo, the mans size is too much for an effective cop. Have you seen USA and UK forces top brass? Compact. Pepper soup too much for them here. Ribadu has proved he is a better cop than all of them combined together and somebody says she is rebranding. Rebranding ko rebranding ni. One day we may need to guide Aso rock with Egbesu boys . But Saddam, you should have protected Falana. You do not want that route blocked. One of the lights may need it again. Keep the flg up |
You cannot divorce Religion from Politics. You have to think about the papacity, the prophets in the bible, Bishop Desmond Tutu and our own Gbonigi. Baba Adeboye is not alone in this, except perhaps the Methodist church of Nigeria, all of them did not see anything wrong in 2007election which we all know was rigged, at least in the west. Erastus Akingbola former boss of Intercontinental launched an FM station and Baba was the first on the mic.OBJ had the mic at Redeem monthly retreaat, the following day he was at Owu picking Kolanut with his mouth and he still went back there only to be given the mic again. We are not judging but for Gods sake, those who God has given the platform to speak, let them speak. But they cannot and will notbecause the Yoribas say when you eat Dodo(fried plantain), you cannt speak ododo(truth). |
@ Seun Quote Arisekola Alao is not a woman. Can you name one beautiful woman with distinct tribal marks? Haba, Seun, a whole you, the administrator of Nigerias biggest and fastest growing forum saying there are no beautiful women with tribal marks. Suliat Adedeji for one, in her lifetime was not ugly and in the city of Ibadan they are plenty. Let the lady carry herself with grace and let the man support her. It is good to stand out so the marks may even be a blessing in disguise if used positively. |
@ FBS, @ kaecy I never wished Adebayo bad. It was just an advice from exprience. When people bite the fingers that fed them, more usually than not, they end up in disaster. Now, ask yourselves this question, why would all Arsenal players and fans applaud Kolo and booe Adebayo? Kanu would never score a goal against Asenal and celebrate it as Adebayo did. AW had been nice to both of them. This is my point. I am not bothered much about the tackles on the field, Adebayo is big enough to defend himsellf but to kick a fellow footballer on the cheek (not tackle mind you) as Adebayo did, was animalistic. You do not hit a man on the ground. The problem with you football fanatics is that you think everybody who condems Adebayo must be an Arsenal fan.I enjoy football but cannot murder objectivity for club loyalty. My first son is a Chlsea guy to the core and he says Adebayos action was improper and against fair play. That is beign objective. Now I ask you both, why do footballers play the ball out when an opposing player is on the floor and the other side throws the ball to the guys team mates. Fairness, polish, refinement, sportsmanlike. There are some standards expected of a star like Adebayo but which he fell far below on Saturday. On that saturday Adebayo behaved very ungentlemanly and if he does not apologise profusely especially to AW who gave him the stage to act, he deserves to be called monkey for the rest of his life. I rest my case. |
the viper:Viper, i am on all fours with you on this Adebayo issue. The problem is people tend to forget where they were coming from. I am surprised that people are so beclouded by team loyalty that they cannont see anyhing wrong with what Adebayo did. And for Gods sake, this has nothing to do with whether a footballer was sold or not. Even if the fans booed Adebayo he should know that he had to comport himself. He is not the first footballer to play against his former club. I am sure Henry or Etoe would not have reacted the way he did. By all means. as a professional, he should strive to justify his pay and scoring a goal against his former club was like it but running to taunt Arsenal fans was tantamount to taunting Arsen Wenger and even if the whole world says no, I say it is very immoral and unethical. You do not taunt a man on whose back you climbed to the top. When I see reactions like these on Nairaland I wonder what has happened to the sence of judgement of some Nigerians. Some Nigerians are supporting Adebayo when both him and the club are already regretting his actions . Truth be told, Adebayo was a bad face of Africa on Saturday, he was just unrefined and uncouthed. He was completely bereft of class and needs to applogise. Lets he thinks he is a superstar, he is not there yet, he is definetely not yet a Henry or Kanu. and if he continues like this, I am afraid he will never be there. His journey to the ground will be much faster than his rise. The oracle has spoken. |

I have the highest regards for medics but this doctor is somrhing else. Osaze may be a bit above average but he plays with his heart. He comes to camp on time and he listens to his coaches. Not for him, the arrogance of some eagles who would want the prsident to beg them before they play. Having said that, where was this doc when Osaze scored a braagainst South Africa on his debut I think. I beg, if you envy the boy because he fine, know and we will address that, but to say the guy does not give his all, its fa fa foul |
This is madness. For this, I have reduced govs after my heart to three, Fashola, Amaechi and Mimiko. |
Sorrry. May her soul rest in peace. she was full of humour. |
Jarus:I have made my post before i read this one. Jesus, who is betraying wanton ignorance? What the guy is saying and i support him, is thiis. This is Nigeria and not USA. In USA, they are all Americans, at least they profess it. In England they are all English and they are predominantly christains. Now look at Nigeria, we have Hausas, Fulanis,Tivs,Yourubas,Igbos, Itsekiri, Ijaws, Edos,Nupes and so on. The north is predominantly muslim while the southerners are mostly christains. Islamic bank wont gel here and this is no sentiments. It is a hard fact. We have enoug problems here, Sanusi should not exarcerbate it. |

This is not the first time Nigeria will toy with this idea of islamic banking.Tthe idea was first flown during IBB and I think again during Obj. Now, there is nothing wrong with Islamic banking. If operated properly we have everything to gain, if nothing at all , it will at least be a sort of competition to this conventional banking system where the managers of the fund use our money to buy jets and sponsore billion naira weddings for their children. Loan at 25% you can not get even when your collateral is 8 times over . My fear is, this is Nigeria. It may have worked in Europe and USA. Will it work here? I say this beacuse in those places, they have gonernments who hold the interest of the whole country paramount, not presidents who will give all sensitive posts to his tribesmen. But, why is Sanusi in such a hurry? 5 big banks management dissolved, the 5 banks to be sold without given them the chance to heal and now Islamic banks. Tell sanusi not to sell our banks to the Arabs o' |
