As much as you can, take her on some of your journeys. This will help a great deal. Nigeria mobile network is still poor in connectivity. I will advice you try and get an internet connection as much as you can. There are even wireless networks around these days. Chat with her regularly via the internet, especially when you can't get her by phone. In all, your wife simply needs assurance that you are still solely for her. Some women are like that. Whenever you are home, do your best to be with her and when next you are travelling to Nigeria and you can't take her along, explain to her the network problems here and keep in touch via emails and chats. Wish you the best man ! |
@ topic adcoline, I think your argument is a bit flawed. All the oil companies you listed are downstream companies i.e, marketing companies. Most of the upstream- exloration and production- companies, are not necessarily headed by yorubas or hausas. In fact, you have very few hausas in the upstream company, except maybe NNPC. Shell in Nigeria is headed by a man from Edo state and his counter part from one of the south east states. Very top positions are headed by non- yoruba and non-hausa people in these upstream companies. At the end of the day I concur with 'gists'. The companies you mentioned are mostly privately owned and the owners have the right to employ who they wish. Also, lets face it. You made a case for Niger Deltans but unfortunately, it takes more than tribe to run a business successfully. You need competence. Lots of these Niger Deltans need to brush up on their skills and education instead of causing commotion in the creeks. If you are skillful and educated you will be employed and maybe soon head a firm. Rich (and often corrupt) Niger Deltans such as most of the governors of the Niger Delta states, should invest their money in floating oil companies in the Niger Delta region and employ their kinsmen and women to run the place In conclusion, I believe this: if you work hard and are competent you will soon head a company or float one yourself. It has very little or nothing to do with your tribe |

NO!! DON'T GIVE HIM A SECOND CHANCE! My grudge with the guy is not just that he slapped you, that is a terrible thing to do to a woman, but from your post, it is clear that you are saddled with not only a woman beater but also one with a serious inferiority complex, jealous and over possessive. You need to leave him now because he is not ready for a relationship yet. If you stick with him you will have to always deal with a guy who will always be suspicious of your actions, will monitor you critically, will want you for himself only and thus, restrict your movements and activities. You will find yourself caged. Sooner than later, you will be forced to break the relationship because you won't be able to cope- lets hope you won't be with a child then, married to him or hospitalised and traumatised. You still got a chance now. Just move on to somebody else with better self confidence of himself, who allows his woman to be herslef and is not overly possessive, abusive, jealous or suspicious. |

One thing you guys have to realize is that Yar' adua will probably play easy for now. He is just coming in and the old bandwagons still call most of the shot. But as soon as he consolidates his hold power, say in a few months to a year's time, Yar' adua will begin to show the stuff he is made of. By then he will call the shots himself and will easily drop anybody from govt. whom he no longer wants. If he does not play along now and let the outgoing dictator and his cronies have some say, they could plan evil for him, even before the handover day. So leave Yar' adua alone for now and come back to make your comments in about 12 months time when he would indeed have become the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria |
Why don't this Shekarau dude face the job of developing Kano, providing quality education and health care, removing almajiris from the streets and providing jobs instead of playing up the sharia card to score cheap political points. Now he wants to use sharia to blind his people so he can cover his inability to develop the state, not to talk of huge sums of federal allocation that will never be accounted for. The people will be so busy discussing and implementing sharia that they will forget to ask him questions on state accountability. Smart guy ![]() He is going to keep everybody busy on sharia rather than on road and house development. Mr Shekarau, or whatever your name is, the people are not so concerned about what they wear on their head. They are more concerned about what they put in their stomach. Could you please focus on that. Thank you . |
Lord Help !! Is marriage this boring then why all the pressure and rush to get married. The girls are looking for husbands. The men are being told they are old enough to get wives and become responsible and now when I ask what they do after the wedding, apart from rearing kids, I hear all those funny things- talk, gist, fight, yell, make love, etc ![]() Funny enough, apart from rearing kids, most of the other things are what you can do without being married . So why get married ? ![]() I need to hear more interesting things please |
Having gone through the various replies I have seen the diverse replies from NL, which is typical of any group of people. Some gave good, quality advice while some practically insulted me, taking out lines from my post to use to buttress their baseless point. Such people easily remind me of Fani Kayode and Frank Nweke Jnr. To those who have something positive to say, I say thank you for your suggestions. For those using their mouth to run others down, I hope you think of something better to do with your time or just keep quiet. And for those interested, I am presently back in Nigeria and working here for now but my location has the tendency to change with time. |
I Beline:I thought about that but it is not easily done. How many people will I get something to do ? How much will I offer ? Some of them are students. Do I also set up students in a business, even if I have the money ? I don't think this will be practicable either. |
Now I am thouroughly confused and I will tell you why. I believe and love to make friends across all social classes and races. I try never to discriminate in my interaction and relationship with people. Although by virtue of my financial status and profession I am in the upper class of society, I come down to make friends with the poor and lowly. Herein lies the problem. Most of the poor people in Nigeria that I relate with soon begin to ask me for money soon after we become friends, even when the friendship is just casual. All they need to kknow is that I have a job. If I decide to restrict my friendship to the upper/middle class people like me, who won't make financial demands unless absolutely necessary, it will be social discrimination, which is not only against my personal principles but also against my religious priinciples as a christian. But most of my poorer friends over burden me with financial requests. ![]() What do I do ![]() |
What do married people really do in their marriages I mean, after the wedding ceremony and you are now living permanently together, what do you spend your time doing? Below is a statement from Prof. Jerry Gana in Thisday Newspaper today. This man was part of this administration for almost eight years and has been a member of PDP from inception. He found nothing wrong with either the government or the PDP until he lost the party's presidential primaries and now he is talking thrash, trying to score cheap political points, just like Atiku. Where was he all these years when PDP was taking Nigeria downhill ? I am not a member of PDP and I hate that party with a passion. I am not in love with this government either and sincerely look forward to a better government but people like Jerry Gana, who have been part of Nigeria failed governments for years now should stop talking in public and instead go and bury his head in shame and ask God for forgiveness for the role he has played as part of governments that have failed Nigeria over the years. I love Osuntokun's reply to Gana's statement Gana: Nigeria Heading for Confusion, Chaos • He’s indicting himself – Presidency 04.02.2007 The former Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees and a former presidential aspirant of the party, Prof. Jerry Gana, yesterday said Nigeria may be heading for confusion and chaos as a result of the refusal of the party leadership to allow genuine democracy to thrive. But the Political Adviser to the President, Bashorun Akin Osuntokun last night described Gana's statement as more an indictment on himself than the president or the PDP. Gana, until recently one of President Olusegun Obasanjo's close associates and former Minister/Political Adviser, spoke on the performance profile of the PDP in a statement issued in Abuja yesterday by his spokesman, Dan Unimna. According to Gana, the failure of the PDP government in the last eight years derived directly from the violations of the values, principles and ideals on which party was founded. The statement from Gana's office reads: “As the foundation secretary of the PDP and the pioneer Secretary of the Board of Trustees which was designed to be the conscience of the party, Professor Gana remains genuinely shocked by the numerous violations of the principles, values and ideals upon which the party was founded, especially the democratic principles of power to the people. "He is therefore sad to see that in a number of situations, peoples' aspirations and choices have been undermined and even subverted. “Prof. Gana remains convinced that any democratic system that refuses to acknowledge and respect the sanctity of voter’s choice as the final arbiter in any election will ultimately lead to confusion, chaos and acrimony. “Unless and until we restore the power back to the voter, the crises of succession will continue. No amount of self help, either by the power of might, manipulations or pseudo legislation can replace the real and genuine power of the people to choose their own leaders at all levels. "He therefore hopes that the forthcoming elections will be free, fair and credible and transparent in all parts of the country. If this happens, the Nigerian people will be delighted to see the emergence of new and credible leadership across the country. “In other words, Prof. Gana believes that genuine democracy is the key to social peace, harmony, stability and progress. “Prof Gana is totally opposed to any attempt to manipulate, rig or truncate the elections because that will create enormous problems for the Federal Republic of Nigeria. “If Nigerians cannot enjoy genuine development, if they cannot enjoy light in their homes, if they cannot enjoy adequate security of life, if they cannot afford adequate food on their tables, if they cannot find jobs for millions of unemployed youths, if they cannot have access to good healthcare, let them at least have peace to live their lives in their hope of better tomorrow by the grace of God. “Prof. Gana calls on Nigerians to continue to pray for the unity, peace and progress for our cherished fatherland and prays that the forthcoming elections will indeed be peaceful, credible, free and fair.” Meanwhile, the Political Adviser to the President, Bashorun Akin Osuntokun last night described Gana's statement as more an indictment on himself than the president or the PDP. According to Osuntokun, Nigerians should ask Gana to reconcile his latest statement with what he has been saying about this administration until he lost the PDP presidential ticket. "It is unfortunate that Gana for whom I have respect would say what was credited to him and that tells a lot about his credibility. "It is sad that in crucial moments like this some people would choose to promote self-interest in order to score cheap points because they failed to get a party ticket. It is unfortunate. "What Gana has done with that statement is to show that he has been pretending to the president all along and while he has the right to be angry about his failure at the primaries, honour demands that he should keep quiet considering the role he has played under this administration. "It's like me speaking ill of the president because I was not allowed to participate at the PDP gubernatorial primaries in Ekiti State on the spurious grounds that I was friend to former Governor Ayo Fayose. "That statement is more an indictment on Gana than the president or the PDP and in moments of introspection now or in the future, he would realise he has done more damage to his own credibility." In a related development, the PDP has announced the expulsion of all members of the party who have been given electoral tickets on the platform of another political party. |
Kinda wondering why anybody in this age and time will want to put his money into afixed deposit that barely yields 5 % per annum in most cases. The best you can get is less than 15 % and that is, if you deposit lots of money. ![]() Why not put your money into the stock market instead. If you buy an Oceanic Bank or UBA IPO now, by the end of the year you can be sure of some significant appreciation of your worth. Alternatively, put the money in some mutual funds, buy treasury bills or bonds, if you can wait a couple of years for it to mature but whatever you do, a mere fixed deposit is not a wise way to use your money these days. It does not yield much returns. Even if you just want to keep the money somewhere safe, then buy the shares of some stable company. You can be sure your money won't be lost unless something terrible happens. |
The Federal Government announced that it will offer four oil blocks each to Korean and Chinese firms in exchange for long term, low-interest loans to fund various infrastructure development project in Nigeria. According to Nigeria’s Energy Minister, Edmund Daukoru, the government hopes to finalise a deal with the Korean National Oil Company for 4 oil blocks during the upcoming licensing round, slated for mid-March. In exchange, the Korean Government shall agree to fund a railway project connecting Port Harcourt to Abuja, the nation’s capital. A similar deal involving the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) has been finalised. In exchange for $2.5 billion loan to finance a railway, hydropower plant and telecom project, CNOOC will also be offered four oil blocks. |
From the Vangaurd http://www.vanguardngr.com/articles/2002/cover/march07/02032007/f502032007.html ABUJA—A mild drama was played out yesterday in Abuja, as members of the Association of Senior Civil Servants, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) prevented the men of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) from evicting Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity, Dr. Timiebi Augusta Koripamo-Agary from her official residence. The action, which follows an Abuja high court order restraining the FCDA from evicting the permanent secretray resulted to a situation where members of ASCN engaged the officials of the task force in a heated argument. The bone of contention as explained by the leader of the workers and Secretary of the Association, Comrade Ayo Olorunfemi is that the FCDA insisted on evicting the PS. According to him, we cannot watch Agary’s things thrown out while on official assignment in New York representing the Government of Nigeria. Said he : “if the government will not obey court orders then the courts in Nigeria should be closed. “How can someone who is out of this country representing the federal government in an international engagement be treated in this manner? If the decision of the courts will not be respected then they should close. We will not watch this and we insist these things be moved back into the house. Nobody is bigger than the court of the land. We can count the number of times she has had to sleep in this house because she closes late attending to business concerning this government. Is this how you are rewarded?” However, after about 5 hours of intense argument between the members of ASCN and the FCDA officials, a compromise was reached, as directives came from the villa stopping the action for the day. Meanwhile, the FCDA men had insisted their operations was an order from above and would stop until they receive the same order telling them to stop. In his reaction to journalists, the Lawyer to Dr. Agary, Mr. Olumide Ayeni of Olumide Ayeni & Co described the action as a slap on the judiciary insisting this was the time to stop further flounting of court order. Speaking on the legal action, he has taken, Ayeni said “we went to court and the matter was fixed. On February 19, 2007 an injunction was granted and here is a certified true letter to that effect. “The injunction restrains the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, FCDA by themselves or through their agents from ejecting Dr. Timiebi Augusta Koripamo-Agary or otherwise interfering with the peaceably possession and quite enjoyment until the Motion on notice is heard. “That Motion on Notice was fixed for February 27, 2007 but when we went to court they (FCDA) were not there but they filed a preliminary objection saying that the action was Statute Bar. But whether the action is statute barred by reason of it exceeding the time limit or not is not for anybody to decide but the court. So the Court has fixed that for March 15, 2007 allowing the injunction to continue. But the situation we have on hand is that, that order was served the Minister as well as the FCDA on February 20, 2007. We also served both the Executive of the FCDA and the Minister what is called in the Form 48 consequences of disobeying the court orders, being that you will be committed to jail if you flout that order. So in spite of all of these things that are quite clear, he still came round on February 27, 2007 to issue a letter of ejection to Dr. Agary. It is against this backdrop that we have now brought an application before the court asking that he be committed to jail because it is clearly a rape on the rule of law. I wonder why he will not respect a court order, there should be no reason why he should not have respected this, he is not the court, a court has raised a competent order saying stop don’t do this, he was served alongside with the notice of the consequences even at the time we went to court, we showed him that indeed there is a matter pending in court. He was aware of all of that. Here is a letter of February 14, proving that which he received on the same date. So there is no reason why this should occur and I think a time has come when the rule of law must really assert itself right now and then we see how this goes. Because if every time something happens and someone has to test the will of the law then I think something must happen to show that this is not acceptable. So we have returned to court right now and we expect the Minister to come to court and tell us why he should not go to jail for flouting a competent order of court and this should be pursued to the logical conclusion regardless of whatever interim steps is being taken here today. |

TeeHay:You need to understand the market to play in the secondary sector but I agree with you. That is where the real money is to be made, especially if you are smart enough to trade in the stocks. For the inexperienced I think it is good to pick high quality IPO's from the primary market but as one gets more competent and confident then move into the secondary. People can also buy quality shares from the secondary market, such as the ones you highlighted. |
There are a number of things to look out for before investing in the shares of a company. The following are some of the things: STEPS FOR COMPANY ANALYSIS 1. Does this company have a product or service that no other company in the country has? 2. Can I explain what this company does clearly to a 10yr old? 3. From the current earnings of the company, how long would it take for it to pay of its debt (liabilities)? The maximum period should be less than 3yrs 4. Do the earnings over the last 5-10yrs show a steady, strong upward trend? If no for at least the last five years, it doesn’t qualify. 5. Is the company an expert at what it does? Does it dabble in other areas where it has no expertise? If they dabble, it’s a bad sign. Dabbling involves operating subsidiaries whose business is far removed from that of the main company. 6. Does the company operate a share buy back policy? Yes is good, no is not so good. 7. Has retained earnings been put to proper use (reflected in EPS increase)? A consistent increase in EPS for at least the last 5 yrs is necessary. EPS = total earnings/total shares. This can usually be read from the financial pages. BEST SHARES SELECTION GUIDE by F.A Akindipe has summarized the 5yr EPS trend for all the companies on the exchange. 8. What is the company average return on equity? This should be at least higher that the current inflation rate. 9. Is the company return on total capital consistently high? (ROTC=Earnings/capitalization) 10. Can the company easily adjust its product/service price to compensate for inflation? 11. Is a large amount of money needed regularly for research, or equipment update? Companies that need to spend lots of money in R& cut down on profits. Simple companies are the best bet. 12. How does the rate of return compare to govt interest rate on bonds? The highest govt rate on bonds is less than inflation rate. It’s about 14%. 13. Using current average rate of return, make a projection on how much growth can me expected. Use the formula FV= PV ( 1+ i )n FV= Future Value, PV= Present Value, i=interest rate n=period |
konti:There are things to look out for before investing in a company. Please read up my contirbution to this topic. There I have highlighted the factors that make a company worth investing in. Having said this, I will still suggest that you buy more of Dangote Sugar IPO. I don't have much faith in tyre and plastic manufacturers in Nigeria and Dunlop comes under this sector. The manufacturing sector in Nigeria is still pretty fabble and although Dangote Sugar Refinery is somewhat into manufacturing, Sugar Refining, it is into a business that is profitable. Sugar will always be consumed, it is for now the only company of its kind in Nigeria, it is one of the world largest sugar refining companies and the Chairman, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, is an astute businessman. Since Dangote still owns a large majority of the shares in the company, he will watch keenly over it and not allow the business to flop. All the same, you still need to be watchful. Considering what recently happened to Bunmi Oni of Cadbury and Cadbury Nigeria (overstating the company's balance to cover loses and shore up share price) and remembering what happened to Enron, Worldcom and BCCI, you can not just buy shares and go to sleep. Always watch over your stock and bail out as soon as you hear a hint of shady business deals. |
Virtually every Nigerian apart from the thieving political class and their corrupt business associates, agree that there is a problem with our leadership and we need a change. Everyday Nigerians weep, complain and discuss the leadership incompetence, public corruption, open selection of thieves instead of election of prudent, competent candidates, wanton rape of the nation by a handful of people( I am not sure the evil rulers of this nation and their associates are more than 10,000 in a country of some 150 million people, including some 93 million of voting age), unconstitutional impeachments, etc but yet NOBODY DOES ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I am still pondering this: Why we accept the evil that befalls us as a nation from our politicians. Why do we watch helplessly as the politicians, governors, local government chairmen, godfathers, etc, steal our money and leave nothing behind and we wring our hands and cry and DO NOTHING BUT COMPLAIN. Are we scared of the guns their thugs carry ? and why do those young men agree to be thugs for them ? Are we scared of the police, SSS, military ? These people complain as well. I have spoken with Military officers and mobile policemen, the ones we are scared of, and they also are not happy with way things are in the country. Why do we watch as politicians select who to rule us even against our votes and we DO NOTHING instead we AGREE that our votes do not count So why do we DO NOTHING ? I don't have the answer but I am just seriously perplexed as to why a nation of an estimated 150 million people, alot of whom are highly educated, physically strong and globally exposed, can't resist less than a 100,000 people oppressing them. Something, maybe spiritual, must be seriously wrong or we are just a bunch of weaklings who believe we can never win against the bourgeoise class so we are okay complaining while erking out a living. Or are we under mass hypnosis ? But we must remember smaller nations like Lebanon and Hungary which only recently staged days of mass protest to force their respective Prime Ministers to resign. In the case of Hungary, the protest was simply because he LIED about the state of the Economy. Imagine what they would have done if he had been indicted for election rigging or embezzlement. Okay, so maybe the prime ministers have not yet resigned but in such countries with such mass protest, a political leader can't just do what he likes and get away with it scot free. The leaders are kept on their toes and made accountable to the people. Lebanon is even a country where guns are carried about publicly. That did not stop the people from mass protesting. WHY DO WE DO NOTHING AS NIGERIANS ![]() |
Only "Dvampire" bothered to make a reasonable contribution while others arrogated upon themselves the role of a "Saintly Judge" who have done no wrong and must condemn others. Calling the dude all sorts of names for having more than one female friend. I am not interested in the details of how he came about 3 girl friends but lets stop casting aspersions as if we are all so holy and righteous and see if we can help him make a decision. Lets stop acting like some of us have never had more than one friend of the opposite sex in our lives. There is a time for everything. He may have played around and now wnats to settle down. My opinion based purely on the statistics given is for girl 3. She is young, educated, domensticated, pretty and from that wonderful tribe of the lovely women, Calabar (Efik). But my advice is for your friend to slow down all intimacy with the girls, re-evaluate his priorites in women, ask God to forgive him his sins and all offences he has committed towards the girls and then commence serious prayers for a wife. It may turn out to be one of the girls or a different girl all together. I must say that who he marries depends on him and how he allows God to lead him, if he believes in God. He should not depend on the advice of friends or faceless members of an online forum because at the end of the day, he is the one who is going to have to live with the girl all his life. |
At the same Dolphin estate some agent recently offered me a BQ (small bedroom+small sitting room with toilet, bath, kitchen and store) for N300,000 per annum. There was nothing fantastic about the house and it was not a new house. When I see somebody say a 3 bedroom in Dolphin goes for N350,000-N500,000 p.a I wonder who the estate thought he was trying to be fast with. I did not go for the BQ. Not worth it |
frankdelis:What on earth is an Economic and Financial Crimes Commission doing investigating a terrorism attempt (if proved to be true) ? - Please note the words in bold EFCC can probe the source of the man's money, if he has any, but it is not for it to investigate the act of terrorism or attempted terrorism. There should be specialised agencies or units for such an investigation. EFCC does not have the skilled personnel or specialised equipment for such investigations Let's not make it look as if all Nigerians have lost their education or ability to think intellectually. |
When people like Big B1 is around is any surprise that Nigeria is not going anywhere except down hill. What has IBB to offer now that he did not have the time to offer then ? What change has come upon him ? I will rather sleep with a man I don't know than sleep with a craze man who will wake up at night and slit my throat with a knife. IBB had his chance. He blew it and we are not giving him a second chance because we are not sure he has change. You mention corruption has come to stay. When Nigierians think like this then we will never move forward. There is no way a country can progress when corruption is institutionalised and everybody beleives there is nothing wrong with it. |
Sorry babe, I ain't kneeling down to beg any girl. I have never seen my father do that to my mother and I will never do it to my wife, talkless of a mere girlfriend who is here today and maybe gone tomorrow. @topic Plead with her and try to win her back with sincere words, assurances and gifts , but if she remains recalcitrant please move on with your life. A girl who truly loves you will not wait until you are weeping and begging and kneeling before forgiving you your crimes, if you have offended her. |

So what is wrong with wearing a bikini at the beach ![]() Like some body rightly said there is a dress for every occassion and place. It will be stupid to wear a bikini along the street but how cute will you be if you choose to wear a pair of jeans trousers inside a spa or in a swimming pool ? For those of you who swim in swimming pools what do you wear, shorts, trousers or swim suit ? Lets stop all this noise about we are Nigerians and African stuff. Bikini is meant for the beach and if you are going to the beach and feel comfortable with your body wear one. It is not compulsory but lets not tie it to culture As for the religious aspect, just know why you are doing what you are doing. Beach is for swimming and relaxing. If you plan to swim there wear what you can use for swimming , such as bikins and swim suits but if you are not planning to swim then you may not want to bother with a bikini. As for me, I will be happier with that girl who knows what to wear in the right place and for the right occassion. I think as Nigerians we are either just a bit too hypocrtical or simpy too scared to reveal our true self for fear of going against cultural and religious norms. I don't care much for primitive culture neither do I bother with religious norms that are not biblically founded. |
