Alamieyeseigha: God Has Forgiven Me FROM WILLIE ETIM (YENEGOA)www.guardiannewsngr.com/news/article02/010907 |
Alamieyeseigha: God Has Forgiven Me FROM WILLIE ETIM (YENEGOA) FORMER Bayelsa State governor, Dr Diepreye Alamieyeseigha yesterday returned home to a rousing welcome in Yenegoa, the state capital and his hometown, Amassoma. The former governor prayed for forgiveness for his enemies, just as he said God had forgiven him. During a courtesy call on Governor Timipre Sylva at Government House shortly after his arrival, Alamieyeseigha thanked God for being alive. At a civic reception in Amassoma, he apologised to all that he might have offended knowingly or unknowingly. While pledging his loyalty to the Nigerian State, the former governor however said he would continue to fight for the Ijaw cause. Alamieyeseigha, who was incarcerated for over eight months in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for fraud and money laundering charges, was overwhelmed by the large crowd that gathered to welcome him back home after his ordeal. He thanked the people for what he called the show of love and support. Flanked by former Senate President Adulphus Wabara, Alliance for Democracy (AD) presidential candidate in the last election, Chief Pere Ajuwa and former Speaker of the state House of Assembly Boyelayefa Debekeme, Alamieyeseigha praised President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua and Vice President Goodluck Jonathan for their efforts at moving Nigeria forward. He commended the President for listing the development of the Niger Delta on his seven-point agenda and pledged to work assiduously towards the attainment of peace, stability and justice in the country. Alamieyeseigha said he had forgiven all those who must have contributed one way or the order to his removal as governor, insisting that he had resolved to put behind him all that had happened in the past and approach life with a new and the fear of God. To this end, he said: " I equally have a covenant with God to forgive and forget all persons who might have hurt me knowingly or unknowingly just as I have obtained forgiveness from the creator over my own failings. The difficulties of the past months have only underscored our fallibility as human beings and brought to the fore, the need for a spiritual rebirth. It was a period of intense cogitation during which I went through spiritual soul searching and rejuvenation, which have brought me much closer to the creator." According to him, what transpired over the last two years was ordained by God but that while in his sick bed, he had made a covenant with God, to give him the strength and the wisdom to selflessly serve Nigeria. Alamieyeseigha said there was hardly any endeavour more glorious than serving one's people and country. "As I emerge from the dungeons, I do so with a renewed sense of responsibility and dedication," he said. "This is no time for recriminations, of unnecessary brooding over developments that we as humans have no control over." He lamented that the Niger Delta had become embroiled in an orgy of violence and rebellion, in which precious lives were being lost while kidnappings, hostage taking, oil pipeline vandalisation among other socio-economic vices, were the order of the day. Reiterating that the set back in the Niger Delta region was the fallout of many years of resource exploitation and abject neglect of the rights and welfare of the people, the former governor blamed both the rich multinational oil companies and previous governments for such neglect. According to him, the crystallization of the Niger Delta crisis into a national problem could have been avoided if proper measures had been taken to provide basic amenities in the area. In his speech, chairman of the occasion and presidential candidate of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) in the last general elections, Chief Pere Ajuwa said the 'spirits of the Ijaw" were behind Alamieyesegha, stressing that the Ijaw would continue to agitate for their rights until justice was done to them. "We will not hand it over to anybody. God in heaven will see to it that we don't hand it over to anybody," Ajuwa declared. Former Senate President Adolphus Wabara said he had come as representative of his people to welcome Chief Alamieyeseigha. " I am sure that if by tomorrow this event is aired, most Nigerians, particularly the dark ones, will be shocked by the rousing welcome Alamieyeseigha received," he observed. In a welcome address read by one time commissioner for Finance, Mr Solomon Apreala the Amassoma community described Alamieyeseigha as a great son and the day as a memorable one. Alamieyeseigha, who had earlier been received by Governor Timipre Sylva at the Government House was received by an unprecedented crowd at Amassoma for the event which was billed for 2pm but started at about 5.30pm. http://www.guardiannewsngr.com/news/article02 |
@Poster Summarise your dissertation. We don't want to have serious migraine running through all that "Phd thesis". I had to scroll through after I got some way through and I do alot of reading. Just give a summary in a few sentences. Remember your WAEC O'Level? Summary is usually one of the essay questions and I want to believe you passed it. For your information, it is not enough to write a write-up. When you make it easy for all to read, then you may elicit some intelligent responses otherwise, there is no need posting. |
Survey: Fashion Affects Job Advancement Tom Musbach, Yahoo! HotJobs Fashion really does make a statement -- especially in the workplace. What you wear on the job could help determine whether you get promoted, according to a new survey. In a Yahoo! HotJobs poll on workplace fashion issues, a majority of the general workforce (68%) and HR professionals (82%) believe that how employees dress at work affects their chances for a promotion. "How you dress at work definitely shapes how others perceive you," says Susan Vobejda, vice president of marketing for Yahoo! HotJobs. "Our survey shows that it's worthwhile to choose your work attire carefully, because those choices could help to move your career forward." More than half of the survey respondents (57%) said they would be willing to buy a new wardrobe in order to get a promotion. Time for a New Look? An entirely new wardrobe may not be necessary to enhance your promotion prospects, according to lifestyle and image consultant David A. McKnight, founder of DAMstyle. He recommends three tips that apply to men and women: · Purchase wisely for the long term. "Invest in high quality clothing with conservative colors and classic and simple cuts -- when in doubt they're always the safest." · Maintain clothes properly with professional pressing and cleaning. "It gives a polished look, and clothing is likely to last a bit longer. Shoes should always be shined, and the heels should not be worn down." · Pay attention to a proper fit. "A person can improve appearance drastically by wearing clothes that fit properly. Generally for men the biggest offenses include wearing pants or jackets that are too short or too long. For women, the biggest offenses include wearing skirts or pants that are too tight, or blouses and pants that are too low." The Job-Interview Approach Of course, achievement and job performance are they key drivers in determining promotions. But, just as in a job interview, how you present yourself sends signals regarding your attitude about work. "Dress and act every workday like you might be called in unexpectedly to interview for a new job," recommends Richard Phillips, a career coach who founded Advantage Career Solutions in Palo Alto, California. "In fact, you are having an 'interview' every time you run into someone at a higher level who might have a say in whether you get promoted or not." Presenting the Complete Package Lindsay Olson, founder of Paradigm Staffing, advises three self-presentation tips that have little to do with clothing but nonetheless enhance an employee's prospects of moving ahead: · Be confident, not arrogant. · Keep yourself nicely groomed (hair and nails) · Avoid heavy perfumes or colognes The experts' advice on promote-ability points to a common saying: Dress for success. "Success and career advancement are significantly influenced by the image that one projects," McKnight concludes. "Not only does dressing for success affect self-esteem, but it can also be a lever used to determine such things as the pace and progression of your career." http://hotjobs.promotions.yahoo.com/style/survey_article.html |
And who stopped this reckless ranting rogue of a policeman from being promoted ![]() IS he not aware of fellow policemen who moved from Recruits to Inspectors in 25 years or what of Nuhu Ribadu, who got something like four promotions in four years, moving from CSP or so to AIG in barely four years ? People should stop blaming others for their position or poverty in life. Even if he entered the police force as a recruit with Primary Six School Leaving Certificate 25 years ago, if he had continued with part time and adult education by now he could at least have attained HND or even BSc, which would have positioned him for promotion to Officer rank That policeman and others like him deserve to be excised from the police force |
@ Shockreaction you made a big mistake with this you are 20, no job, no money, bla bla bla , Should have told Gamine you are in the US, own a SUV with 18" Alloy wheels, have your own condo, run a software programming business turning a net yearly income of $200,000 and you are 30 (very ripe age for marriage). What are people even looking for in Britain ? Nigerians no dey hear word NOTHING DEY FOR UNITED KINGDOM !!!!!!! Take this from one who has been there, spent time to work and school there and can easily go there if he so wished. Nothing dey. Their educational system is not so great either. Lots of theory and simple exams. Very little in real solid practicals You want a Western Education, go to the Scandinavian Countries, US or Canada. If you must go to Britain to study, stick with only the top 10 schools, even those ones get comma. There are lots of opportunities in Nigeria. The days of going abroad or "akata" to make it are more or less over, at least for some of us. Just look around you and plunge in on something good and you will be surprised how much you can get out of Nigeria, legitimately. Bone dem British Nation.Nothing dey for there ! |
Big B1:Big B1 give reasons for your upbeat posture towards an IBB presidency Why do you think he would have brought Nigeria to these enviable heights when he could not or did not do so in his first coming even then, he had military might which he could have used positively if he had so wished ? A man's future actions can easily be deduced from his past actions. Give me hard core evidence that this IBB would have lifted Nigeria. Not just mere wishful thinking of a hard core loyalist |
And some people still don't believe that these "oyinbo people never kolo" ? |
Mariory:Seems this Mariory guy is always so bitter anytime Obasanjo is castigated. Na your papa im be ? ![]() I guess the reason why most of us and Sun Newspapers can't get it past 'our heads that Obasajo is no longer president' and alot of people still love to ridicule him, was because he thouroughly traumatised the people of this nation. He was definetely a wicked and arrogant leader, irresepective of a few good things he did. The bad simply outweigh the good and history won't forgive him. For as long as this generation lives, we will tell the evil deeds of Obasanjo to the next generation ![]() |
babasin:This sahara reporters, who are they and how authentic is their news ? They must be so influential that they were allowed into the same room as Yar Adua and Soludo to see him, Soludo, kneeling down to beg Yar Adua. Please give me an authentic and corroborated link to this information or stop peddling rumours. Shara reporters have never liked anything Obasanjo and I feel they would publish lies to rubbish their own mother if she as much as went close to Ota farm gate. Sahara reporters my foot ! |
Bluestream:I beg to defer a little. What about our parents who never ran joint accounts but yet have and still have solid, wonderful marriages that have with stood terrible storms? Lots of present day marriages barely survive a breeze but our parents can boast of marriages already celebrating 30th anniversary and still waxing strong, yet our dads did not, and still do not have joint accounts with our mums. This is not a one size fits all situation. Do what is best for you but to refuse to run a joint account does not necessarily smack of lack of trust. I dare say we attach too many unrealistic ideals to modern marriages, hence their inability to last. You want to get married, sit down and discuss the hard facts about money (and other issues) with your potential spouse and reach an agreement on what will work best for both of you. The two top most destroyer or marriages remain sex and money |
have a joint account for meeting the common needs of your family but still keep your own personal account for meeting your personal needs. There is nothing wrong in having more than one account. You may be married but you are still an individual with your personal needs. You mustn't go to your spouse for discussion or permission everytime you need to buy a bra or you need to send some money to your mum. Get my drift ? |
Soludo may be brilliant but he is making a mistake which is that of not involving or carrying everybody along A Banker friend of mine told me that prior to the introduction of the new notes and coins, banks were never informed. He just woke up one day and announced the introduction without finding out from the banks how their customers, the users of the currencies, will respond to such monies. We all know the story today. The coins are not being used, even beggars I heard, reject the coins. Concerning the banking consolidation, it was also through a fiat of sort. Even his CBN management team was suprised. Thank God that one successful anyway. Now the re-denomination is also taking everybody by surprise. No prior information or consultation. Just a CBN Governor fiat of we all start using the new currency by August 1, 2008. Worst case, neither the President nor the Finance Minster it seems, were informed. You don't do such a thing, even in developed countries. When trying to initiate such far reaching reforms with deep consequences for the nation, the least you can do is first inform your boss, the President lest you be seen as either being insurbodinative or arrogant. This is not the kind of things the President should read in the papers like all other Nigerians Like Batu said, when you occupy a position with political sensitivity, you have to play some politics, one of which is to carry everybody along. Afterall, you need people to achieve your goals. |
I have been following this Yar Adua for sometime now. Looks to me as if the dude is reversing most of Obsanjo's reforms. This may or may not be a good thing for Nigeria The good thing - so far, most of the reversals are worth it. Look at all the waivers, of course to friends and cronies of Obasanjo ,and Nigeria loses all the money. The bad thing - won't this make foreign investors and private sector operators lose faith in the Nigerian government, if reforms by one administration will be reversed by the next ? Also, shouldn't we give some of these reforms some time to work ? Continuity is required for a system to become functional, self sustaining and rewarding. But at the end of the day, the good thing is that Yar Adua is reversing the wrong, obnoxious, self serving and self enrichment policies and programmes of Obasanjo. I only hope and pray the reversed programmes will be replaced with better, workable and Nigerian people focused and friendly ones. |
Yar’Adua Suspends Waivers, Tax Exemptions http://www.thisdayonline.com/nview.php?id=87192 President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua has directed that the issuance of waivers, exemptions from taxes, duties and tariffs to individuals, companies or organisations, be suspended with effect from yesterday. Speaking at a Ministerial Press Briefing tagged “The New Road Map to Economic Reforms”, Usman said the suspension became necessary to plug a number of revenue leakages through which corruption was perpetrated in the last three years. Noting that the amount of waivers given so far was alarming, he pointed out that “the Comptroller-General of Customs told us that one particular waiver was granted ten times over.” He added that “a lot of state governments, private sector operators and churches were being granted indiscriminately. Somebody was organising a game and was asking for waivers to import 600 cars.” THISDAY gathered that about N235billion that should have accrued to the Federal Government was lost to duty waivers alone in the last five years. According to information from the Ministry of Finance, the losses from waivers and exemptions from import duty, ECOWAS Trade Liberalisation Scheme (ETLS), Negotiable Duty Credit Certificates (NDCC), Manufacturing-In-Bond-Scheme and special incentive granted to importers and exporters. About N194.3 billion was lost between 2003 and 2006 with additional N40 billion granted as duty waivers between January and August 2007 A breakdown revealed that, the Federal Government lost N12.394 billion to duty waivers and concessions in 2003, N55.796 billion in 2004, N71.244 billion in 2005, and N54.921 in 2006. Going forward, he said, the Yar’Adua has approved the appointment of accounting firms to audit all the existing waivers and exemptions with a view to ascertain their validity and the level of compliance with the rules guiding the granting of such waivers. He further stated that steps were being taken also to improve the coordination between the FIRS and the relevant Departments of the Ministry, especially the Revenue and Fiscal Departments. “This will help to avoid the seeming confusion where one arm of the Ministry is taking some fundamental action that has great potential to embarrass, not only the Ministry alone but the Federal Government as a whole, without the other arm even knowing about it. Such recent, uncoordinated actions include the increase in the VAT, from 5% to 10%, which had to be reversed, and the frequent waivers and tax exemptions being granted, of which we say more below,” he said. |
What could this portend for Prof Soludo, the CBN Governor ? What about Ribadu, Chigbue and Jacob Gyang ? My bet is that some of these guys won't retain their jobs through out the tenure of Yar Adua Ribadu might keep his job - probably just dropped him from the EMT because he is a policeman and does not need to be in the EMT to be effective Jacob Gyang, Comptroller General of Customs might also retain his job and just like Ribadu, he does not need to be in the EMT to do a great job in Customs But Soludo and Chigue- BPE Director General- are probably on their way out. I have a gut feeling Yar Adua is not happy with their style or performance. Chiggue's involvement in the privatisation programme of Obasanjo left a sour taste in the mouth of most Nigerians. She has a case to answer. In fact, rumour has it she was supposed to have been sacked along with Kupolokun. Soludo's crime - I don't know but it could range from this new naira re-denomination to Usman Shamsudeen, his deputy at CBN and now Finance Minister, not being happy with him. It will be such a shame for Soludo to end ingloriously with a sack. Truly, this niaira re-denomination might be his undoing as he will have a hard time explaining why he spent so much of our money introducing N1000 notes and coins- which nobody uses- and in less than one year, is coming out with the introduction of new currency, with its attendant high cost of printing and public enlightenment. One great lesson from Chigbue's case - just do your work and do it well. Stop trying to favour the government of the day or sucking up to the arse of the president trust me, when the chips are down you will be abadoned. Obj has abadoned his erstwhile foot soldiers to their fate Yar Adua is also begining to prove that he never agreed with most of the policies or approach of Obj's govt. |
Yar'Adua drops Soludo, Ribadu. others from Economic team From Mathias Okwe, Abuja http://www.guardiannewsngr.com/news/article05/240807 CENTRAL Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, was yesterday a casualty of President Umaru Yar'Adua's new reform agenda. |
Afam:Is this truly Afam the Company Executive talking Jeez !! Who ever heard of a leader or an educated person at that, who does not read the papers ? By the way, if you stopped buying Nigerian Newsapaers two years ago, why did you bother to publish an article recently in the Guardian ? Who were you expecting to read your article since you can't be bothered to buy 'useless' Nigerian Newspapers ? There is no thoughtful, enlightened and educated leader who will not want to know what his people think of him and his policies. All the papers in Nigeria can't be wrong at the same time and they are definitely not all useless. They don't all tell lies. They represent what is truly Nigeria. That is where alot of discussion in this forum come from. If Obasanjo could not be bothered to read them because they did not print good things about him, it only shows that he did too many terrible things that did not benefit the average Nigerian. No Sir, a leader can't just do what he thinks is right without feeling the pulse of his people through their comments in the papers. That is so autocratic and dictatorial and typical of most African leaders, which is what makes the Western, more competent and performing, leaders better. They care about what their people say. They bow to popular opinions when it is the right thing to do. No leader has a monopoly of what is good for the people and that includes Obj By the way Afam, drop this thinking that a leader can do what he likes, irrespective of what his people think or say. It is too African (Lord of the land attitude) and doesn't work any more in a modern, democratic world. And you are supposed to be too educated and expoesed to think like that, otherwise we are finished if people like you still think this way, with all your education, western exposure and global knowledge. |
Now we know why this man did things that never took the sensitivities and opinions of Nigerians into consideration. This man was probably just as bad as Abacha. Absolute disregard for the collective will of the poeple he was purported to be leading. How do you lead a people if you don't care about what they say and how will you know what they say if you don't read the papers ? ![]() He arrogated the omniscience of knowledge to himself. What a catastrophic leader we had for eight years. By the way, what does he read ? Ikebe Super I guess ![]() |
Why I don't read Nigerian newspapers, by Obasanjo From Charles Coffie Gyamfi, Abeokuta http://www.guardiannewsngr.com/news/article04 VERBAL darts were on Sunday night thrown at the Nigerian print media by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who described them as lacking in integrity. The observation, he said, explained for why he doesn't read any of the publications. Obasanjo, at an award ceremony organised by the Ogun State government for its deserving citizens, described as sad the supposed Nigerian penchant for not recognising selfless service, especially while persons are still alive. He urged those who fall into such category not to be disturbed because Jesus Christ, the son of God, who gave his life to mankind and went about doing good all the time, was crucified. He argued that the print media in the country has been using his name to sell their papers and disclosed that he was considering using legal means to charge a commission from any of them that uses his name for a story. Tagged: "Award of Excellence," the ceremony was put in place by the Ogun State government to recognise and reward people who had distinguished themselves in their various fields. The state governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, agreed with Obasanjo that those who had rendered selfless services to Nigeria were often not recognised but rather, were humiliated and ridiculed after leaving office. Obasanjo commended Daniel for organising the award, insisting that such gestures encourage people to serve humanity. He urged the awardees to be grateful that God had made it possible "because not many people are recognised for whatever service they render in their lifetime." On the print media, he said: "I don't read Nigerian newspapers. When people ask me, 'have you read the papers today?' I reply by asking them 'for what?' "They will now tell me, they are abusing you and I will reply that that is better than being crucified" The former President, who after leaving office as military ruler, once placed a signboard barring journalists and dogs from his farm, said further: "You see, they (journalists) will never leave me alone because anyone who wants to sell his (paper) must say something about Obasanjo." He continued: "The only thing I will have to do is to consult my lawyer to see whether I can charge them, so that I can take commission anytime they use Obasanjo's name in their paper." The state governor, Otunba Daniel noted that: "It is a sad commentary on our political, sociology and philosophy that those who have served the society creditably are humiliated and ridiculed, out of envy and petty politics". According to the governor: "This syndrome has discouraged well meaning people from participating in politics for fear of having their hard-earned reputation dragged in the mud. This definitely must change." Daniel said that Obasanjo made "invaluable contributions not just to the progress of our state but to the development of Nigeria and the emancipation of Africa." In all, 21 persons received awards in various categories. The "Life Achievement Award" was bestowed on Obasanjo. The Farmer of the year award went to Oba Josia Bamidele Otukoya; the Public Servant of the year award (junior category) went to Mrs. A Sonoola, head messenger; while that of the senior category went to Mr. K.P Fagbohun. The Media Award was won by Miss. Doyin Lasisi. The award prize for each of the winners was N100,000. Among the dignitaries at the ceremony was the Mayor of Detroit, U.S.A, Mr. Kwame Filpatrick, who was honoured with Ogun State citizenship. |
Let me be plain. I think you have a serious problem here. You husband is not only insecure, but has the tendency to get psycho, if you know what I mean. Like a poster said, "this is how abusive relationship starts". They take away all your support, bar you from interacting or talking to others and then, when they start dealing with you, you have no one and no where to turn to. This sort of over possessiveness is not love, but seems more like fear and abuse to me The way: 1. Pray seriousy about it 2. Sit him down and talk politely but firmly to him. Make him understand that you are faithful but you need other human beings as well to live a full life. He can't cut you off from your friends, family, colleagues and neighbours and expect you to be a normal human being ( you may go nuts if you don't take action now) 3. Get your family and ery close friends involved now, while it is yet early days. 4. If he won't change, take your destiny in your hands. Marriage is for better for worse but no man has the right to put you in bondage because he married you. Marriage is not bondage. If he can't handle mariage with all the friends and families that come withit, he needs to look for another wife or go live alone Sorry I may have been harsh on your husband, but lets get the truth out. You need to be free even in your marriage or else, worse things could happen to you. God forbid ! |

ono:What is you argument ? That corruption should be allowed to continue the same way indiscipline has continued in our national lives ? That until Obj and IBB are prosecuted other thieves, like Ibori, Igbinedion and Odili, all from Oil producing states, should be allowed to contiunue to enjoy their loot while the people they looted suffer and die in poverty ? That because you are from the same state as Ibori, it is well and good for him not to be arrested for looting your state. Maybe you shared in the looting. Didn't I start a thread about Nigerians glorifying first class theives? Don't we have an example here ? WAI died, but what did we gain as a Nation ? Chaos, disordeliness, lawlessness, etc You want EFCC to die so that corruption can continue. Simply becasue you are from an oil producing state. Please lets use our head to think and our heart to reason, instead of allowing ourselves to be blinded by some bloody oil. The oil won't last forever. |

There is no diplomatic way to my privacy. You disturb me and I will tell you. If you think your friend attitude is distrubing your life and work, like you mentioned , then tell him, politely but firmly. You need your privacy. @poster Why are you so focused on marriage ? Can't you just enjoy the relationship without bringing committments and responsibilities into it ? Not every man wants to get married now or carry the so-called responsibilities. Just enjoy yourself but if all you want is marriage then I advise you to look for somebody who is also looking to get married and leave this guy alone. By the way, sisters should stop making marriage look like the sole goal and purpose of their existence. Learn to enjoy your friendship and relationships without focusing on marriage, it scares guys away. And talking about responsibilities, who says a guy has to carry some responsibilities simply because he is dating a girl. Girls, learn to bear your own burdens and stop leaning on a man for fulfilment or assistance in life |
In the past it was believed that Nigerians have no hostage value, hence the kidnap of expatriates. Seems times have changed. Nigerians are now being kidnapped as well. This kidnapping business is spiralling out of control and it will be the bane of Port Harcourt economic development, same way the ethnic wars of the 1990's destroyed Warri Economy |

The arrogant VP dude continues to claim that the constitution does not require him to publicly declare his assets. Why can't he just follow his Boss's steps and make a public declaration ? What is so hard about that unless he has something to hide. It is most certain that he won't be able to explian his wealth I have a gut feeling this man is going to be a spoiler in this Yar'Adua's govt and because of his actions, I feel strongly he will fall out with Yar'Adua. They seem like diametric opposites |
