HammedOlanaija: "What's already accepted worldwide" this is pure wickedness and as it is you just showed us all that this is really what they taught every pharmacy students during their study. Oga please get rid of your frustration. I happen to have studied pharmacology as first degree and currently running PhD. The truth is that world-wide pharmacologists can't dispense drugs. It's not a Nigerian thing (pls quote me if am wrong) Firstly job opportunities in Nigeria is generally low for graduates irrespective of the course studied. Secondly the opportunities for pharmacologists is even worse. It's a pity you were not properly enlightened about the course before taking up the course. Very few of my course mates are working in anything related to pharmacology. Of course I also wanted to study medicine but then got pharmacology It's not too late for you to start making plans for after school because your certificate can only do a little for you in Naija. Opportunities available to you in Nigeria along pharmacology line is 1. Lecturing 2. Marketing for drug companies (can be rewarding if you get a good company) 3.Pharmacy assistant in a pharmacy(depending on the location e.g lekki, you can earn ok) Can't think of any other thing But then you can always start your own business, Get other skills e.g along IT line, or try to get admission to study another course that has more opportunities I know someone with first degree in zoology, came to school of nursing for 2and1/2 years and started practicing. From there got admission for B.sc nursing. But take note that she started working with the school of nursing certificate as a registered nurse. Your options are as vast as you want it to be Please understand the reality on ground now before you leave school so you can fashion a plan out for yourself. Stop debating with pharmacists, it is what it is. Read a thread here of someone with first degree in biochemistry,M.Sc and PhD but couldn't get a decent job, took up web dev and programming and now a data analyst So please broaden your view,so this country ould not make you suicidal |

My personal opinion as someone who studied pharmacology is that pharmacy has more options, better pay n stronger body in Nigeria. A course like Med lab or nursing would even be better. Except she is not going to be limited by her choice of course, she can go for any course including pharmacology. On its own it's an inferior course to pharmacy, but the individual will eventually determine how well he/she will go in life with any course |

gbengaoa: yes the plant wilt and all died. I had problems with some plants similar to what you had. Won't claim to know the cause but I did notice that it(wilting)started shortly after I applied fertilizer. I read somewhere that the fungal causing wilt can be aggravated by using excessive fertilizer(nitrogen in particular). Prior to the wilting I also had some plants with yellowing and looked like magnesium deficiency. Tried to correct it but it didn't work. Then I saw an article on cucurbits yellows(try reading up on seminis.com) and I realised it was similar. MY SOLUTION I dont use npk again I use more of manure If I have to use synthetic fertilizer I dissolve very little amount in water and apply (crude fertigation) I started spraying insecticides from week one. Now that its flowering and fruiting havent sprayed. Will use beauveria next and hope it works If it is downy mildew the leaves will brown, dry up and die but it won't cause wilting, so I rule out downy mildew. Will suggest you make more research yourself on the internet on causes and solution since you have all the pertinent info |

Wow, please let's not destroy ourselves with our own hands. If using manure the right way is difficult, I would advise we don't use it We cant twist things to suit our narrative when extensive research has been done to show us the implications of using fresh manure. In fact it can be done in days if a particular temp can be maintained(cant remember) if not leave it for a long time to compost. It's easier for me because of the poultry farmer I buy from. I buy a bag for 400 excluding transportation. The cucumbers have produced on my farm, I don't eat cos am not too fond of it, but every other member of my family does. It's one of the reason I stick to PHI of each product. There are times the fruits are big and am told to harvest, I say no especially when the PHI is not complete The country might not be encouraging, but we can't complain about our leaders and then we also are culprits. My oga@okoroemeka you will be surprised that if you are committed to it you can compost successfully most especially because of human resources you have at hand. I would encourage you sir to reconsider and give it a try |

Pistotita: 1. Are you sure if you meet me one on one, fear will not grip you? With all you have posted on nairaland, I can weigh your worth. I am sure you will roar like a cat in response to this.
2. If you claim your Christ had redeemed you from the curse of the law stop doing what will curse you again. Dont use chemical irresponsibly. Dont give cancer to people because you want profit for yourself. When corrected about wrong usage of things, and you genuinely know you are wrong, take to correction, and stop being a d.ck which you are now. Are you so scared of curses? Oga, you still don't get it? At times, it's why athiests ridicule the so called christians especially because your responses many times make one wonder: did you attend elementary school? Your logic reasoning is low. I am not abusing you. You need to improve on it.
3. Like I told you, how you reason/judge things baffles me. As soon as I meet people like you, I avoid them cos you will frustrate one when one is showing you what to do. Your like will be given the full answers to read on paper, and instead of asking questions based on the resources you were given, you will still ask more questions like an illiterate who cannot read, and be nagging that one is hiding info from you. When you were handed 100% details of what you need. If you cannot at least for once try to check data to prove me wrong, and you feel it is I that need to back up everytime, you need deliverance from yourself (you mentioned first that cancer in advance countries is more; therefore, back it up first). Just like how some people asked me (to mock me) if I got my 40 cucumber per plant. The fellow didn't realise he mocked himself. Did I reply him? Someone else lashed him to go make his research. I gave him the answer in my thread yet, the "du.ndie" was trying to mock me on public forum, not knowing he showed his "downy" syndrome features on nairaland unknowingly. Continue showing your stup.idity.
5. The same people sharing manure have started responding to the call to change. Hahahha. It is archaic to you, but that is the method st.ubborn and id.iotic people especially like you respond to. It is when rough handled, your like start shouting "being civic". But when the message was passed in a matured way, you were even abusing the person. "Du.ndie United". Right now, they are sharing greenhouses on that thread to show they also know. They are talking about composting. Did they not know these hygenic stuff before? Is the person who shared greenhouse not the same promoting terrible, digusting, nauseating, irritating, unhygienic formular before? So, the greenhouse and resources attached is N20,000. Right? Yet, the same person was trying to form that he has arrived by telling me that 5 million naira is too much to start anything agric because hunger is in his father's house. I told him stylishly that time that if he pushes me to the wall, he cannot withstand what he will get cos I am a master of giving "e-jabs". Of course, he felt he knows how to shade. He started from the on set of my thread, but I was silent. He felt I did not understand his jabs. But where that elderly man is going to knock out the over zealous child is unknown, because, that elder is studying the best area to give a jab that will knock out permanently. My e-jabs are like Iron Mike Tyson. I am not done with him. By the time I am through with him, he will close his account on nairaland except I have a change of heart. The wiz too should just watch out. Cos I see him daily on my thread meditating and studying. I just want him to release or publish any useless chemical here, he will certainly regret coming to nairaland. Go and ask people who tried it with me in the past. They think they can bully anyone they meet. He has "jammed" with the wrong person. A solid, fearless rock I am. If I vex enter that your "useless" thread, I will send you all packing, and let that "sh*tty" thread rest in pieces. Just imagine how people in abroad feel reading such nasty procedures. Who will eat the meat produced from such farmer. Indeed a ranch expert. I even praised the thread one time to use style enter to start correcting them, but they want iron hand. Chai! If you don't know, the way drug pushers, 419, yahoo boys are denting our image is the way your thread is denting us. Why will you not be called monkeys in Europe. Are you not monkeys with those barbaric procedures? Useless thinking set of human beings giving us bad names and defending their actions like they are right. You are all ma.d in that thread. And ma.d supporters will come online to say the field is enough for us all to play. You better carry your ma.dness to your father's field and farm, and stop embarrassing Nigeria. We are not that senseless in Nigeria. There are many good and hygenic farms in Nigeria.
You are a "dundie". If you still don't see the effect of my action, I don't know how I can even show you an experiment or trial, and ask you for observation and conclusion, without you asking me again what are the answers. If you cannot still reason along that line, and still return to attack me, I don't understand the kind of education you had. But let's look at it from another angle, it does not require education to see the effect. So, your case is not about education. It is just called being unnecessarily stu.pid. You have shown that you don't want to change and you feel bad that I am correcting it. Are you that cheap, and not ashamed of yourself? Promoting such digusting activity on a forum people view in all the corners of this earth? Are you so used to poverty and dirtiness? To remove a pig from a swamp of dirt is hard oooo. You are a real pig. "Stupi.dity get levels"..Yours is hyper-super-multi raised to the power of "mumu-nism". Who will deliver you from yourself? Who? Better that legions of evil forces dominate one than chronic stup.idity. I reject evil forces and stupidity. Far away from me and my household. Back to the senders!
If you don't get out, you will get more. Wicked soul. Your moniker is no more funsoul. which fun? Fun in infection. Uncle fun-Infection, you better clear off my thread.
Next post of yours will be ignored because it is clear you have removed your brain from where it is, and placed it under one of your foot. Unfortunately, you like walking bare footed, and you can trek from Lagos to Sambisa Forest. Who will quickly deliver you from the wear and tear you have subjected your mendulla oblongata to? Almost every good tissue to reason like a normal human has worn off. Oga, "a dash" you an e-slipper to protect the tiny remaining tissue so you don't argue with your child who by God's grace will be smart to correct you when trying to teach him how to handle manure like a dun.die papa. My Jesus will not allow your dundie-nism cross over to your children. I dash you that prayer. Because I know it's co.ntagious. Or do you need me to prove how co.ntagious it is? If you ask me for that, you are the proof.
I leave you with your thoughts. Continue your stup.idity and continue embar.rassing yourself online. The day people meet you face to face they just look at you, and wash you down like an imbe.cile. You try shaking them, and they avoid it. What an emba.rrassment? And that's truly who you are - imbe.cile.
Oga, I leave you with Christ you mention, if not another fake christ. My Christ drank "sharpman" well well. He handed it over to me. I don't know about your own christ. You cannot follow my own Christ and be a d.ck. He is your only hope because I have tested Him, and He is sure. I beg you.....send me email so I can teach you about Him. I don't mind when talking about my Christ to answer same question 1 million times. In fact, I like it more. So, don't be afraid. No matter the questions you ask about my Christ, there is no mumu-nism in that. At least, I am sure in that area your "dundie" is positive. And of course, if you continue with your dun.die like that, heaven is sure. So, bro....just make your du.ndie useful in that area because if you allow yourself to be sharp in the wrong area, chai!
Anyway, you are still my brother. And it is allowed to have such friction. So, stay tight and continue reading, enjoying, learning from the person who you have asked for more proofs. But you know within yourself he doesn't respond to such stup.idity. I even read some more comments saying my analysis of manure causing cancer is wrong without any counter logical argument. Seriously, I am tired ooooo. How can people "read" long "epistles" with facts stating clearly the real cause of cancer in manure, yet they guess it is the chemicals in it. And they cannot simple use google to check. I even bolded the cause. Many people are just st.upid intentionally. Chai! They are lazy to read. They just glanced through. lol. At least their mentor is trying to adjust. We thank God for that. You better join the wagon of modern farmers like your okoro mentor (not trying to abuse ibo, but that's part of the other id.iot's moniker), and leave that your poverty mentality behind so you can prosper and not die in extreme poverty.
It is finished so Christ said finally. Oga, on your case and the others who made such comment; 3 words for you all: IT IS FINISHED!!! One of the things I love about social networks is you can think deeply before making any response compared to speaking face to face. I had my response and then I thought: to what purpose? The Yoruba's have a saying; Iwofa lenu. If you refuse to look at it from my point of view it's OK. My initial comment that started this argument wasnt to mock you but to let you understand that seeing curses and abuses in a post detracts from it(not reducing the worth of the info but distracting and diverting attention from the main substance). I repeat i did not post to condone any wrong practice(s). In my small time journey as a farmer have learnt a lot from this thread and so many others on this forum. Look at oga Okoroemeka's thread right now where there is an debate going on about composted/uncomposted manure,no insults/curses/name calling but the message is being sent and everyone reading would either tell themselves the truth or keep deluding themselves. For all farmers here please read up on composted, uncomposted manure(pros and cons). The internet is well loaded with these info. The reason I pay extra for the manure I buy is because it is well aged such that the first time I had to ask if it was soil they wanted to sell. Even when making manure tea, it's advisable to compost |

okoroemeka: this system is good to produce compost for a small garden,it's not practical for 1 plot above The poultry farmer I get manure from has a method of putting manure in ditches according to different ages. The manure is well aged so when you see it looks like soil. The only thing is it a bit expensive |

Pistotita: Can you see that my strategy works? lolz... The result of my strategy is: You are forced to talk. (Arent you hailing them and making us that kicked against such sound like we are hating on them?) Someone with a friend who is experiencing it is forced to talk. And another person considering a kind of technique is forced to ask the level of safety of the method. You may not like my idea, but you are wrong to say it detracts.
You are a liar saying you have love ones with cancer. My brother, if you have, you will join me. That's for sure. You that are civic, did you use it to caution them? You know the result, you saw them doing it, and you kept quiet in the name of being civic..Are you ok? I'm not sure you are. Yet, you claim you have two loved ones. But when the person who understands the gravity of such is bombarding them with what they deserve, you are attacking him. "You no we.ll at all". Did I mention your name, or anyone of them? I am on my thread bro. Did I come to say anything on your "well explained and straight forward techniques for the common man"? You better take your time.
Nigerians hate curses. For sure. I really thought deeply how to get their attentions. It seems you are guilty bro. You dey fear to die? My curses are even helping you sir so you can change. "Better get my e-curses, take am rub bodi, and change for good". If h.pylori, staph, strep, and ecoli join forces together to curses you ........ hmmmm. You don enter am ooo. If you allow them to start dancing Makosa, it's trouble. But if they change gear from Makosa to Azonto, and you allow them start kicking like Zanku, Gbese, Gbe bodi.... Oga funsoul ....Hahahahaha ....that your moniker will change to fundeath. Which soul again?
I apologize if it looks too tough. But the truth is that anyone who handles manure with what I read recently is a nui.sance. I say this with no apology. At this stage? Honestly, with the anger in me, they deserve to be sent to Kirikiri (prison). Did they not take health science? Nursery 1 to 3, Elementary 1 - 6, Junior Secondary 1 - 3, Senior 1 - 3. And then, that sh*t on nairaland? You suppose to quickly kick against it. And they are enjoying it like it is something to be proud of. Oga, you no wel.l at all.
Go and check your facts again. But first look at the population of Nigeria in comparison to the developed world you mentioned. And in Nigeria, many people do not even still go to hospital, and many cases unrecorded. Cancer is extremely high now in Nigeria more than those countries. Extremely high to the extend a 10 years old boy that I was told had just constipation, and the next thing is cancer. And he has been battling it for 2 years. Oga, you don't have anyone with cancer. Maybe it's just thyphoid they had. lol. This person who told me about the 10 year old boy fought me hard that..."pistotita, I say don't teach me inorganic, leave me with my organic....let me lose money" lol. I was the one trying to convince her that I can teach safe methods cos it's about investment, and organic is tough, and that she must move from inorganic gradually to organic for profit making.
Yes, it is gotten from poor agricultural practise. Poor does not only mean low tech. It may be with advance tech, but still poor. And super method does not mean using high tech. Yeah, you are certainly right sir. I don't like arguing, but when it comes to defending what I have strong conviction in, I don't bend. You will hat.e me bro if you don't walk away gently since it's obvious you are guilty.
Do you put labels on your products that they are inorganic? But those places you talk about, they tell you when buying that these are grown with pesticides, and those are organic, so you are aware that you are buying your coffin if you choose inorganic. hehehe. Of course, more still needed to be done. Instead of you to join with the insults so that they can stop, you are facing me. After these set of posts I have made, they will surely stop except they are cur.sed from b.irth. People we used styles talked to and started ab.using us then. But you were silent then. Lol. Why didn't you talk then? You are one of them. Better my cur.ses work on you than the unification of strep, staph, pylori, and ecoli curse you.
You will get more if you don't get out of my thread. Go and face your people in their mixing manure practical training.
Readers, stay tuned for hygienic ways to go about soil preparation . You would do so well in Nollywood. My Goodness you are so talented. If you lie on public forums for whatever reason, it doesn't mean everyone does. Hailing them? Because I admonished you not to curse/insult. I have no friend who is/has experienced such. I don't have any loved one with cancer but have lost two to breast cancer. Guess I would need to give their bio-data and pictures so you can believe me Am guilty? Just because I don't tow the same line you do. My response wasnt to condone wrong practice(s). Am sure if you saw a thief being lynched on the road you will urge them on so one would call you a thief. If you lived in the days of Jesus you would probably have called Jesus a fornicator for defending the adulteress You complain farmers are backwards in Nigeria, yet you employ such archaic method to get attention. I am very OK n well. I can comment on this thread any day and time because you don't own this platform. Only in Nigeria will you have people say you have an hidden motive once you say something contrary to their ideas. My admonishment isn't because am scared of the e-curses. Not at all. Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree.Galatians:3:13. So my brother curse away, n shaking. Do not just hide behind your keyboard cursing since it works so well. Look for them one on one and curse in the change you want Please back up the info Nigeria has the highest cancer rate compared to those countries from verifiable sources. Pass across your info without theatrics, but then you said you are seeking attention so ride on I would respond any time i feel one is needed and if you are not satisfied with cursing abeg am in my house coman beat me. Pistotita: One advice for you sir: Leave my thread if you are uncomfortable with my approach. If you know those who will listen will listen no matter the presentation, then, you should be less concerned with my approach. Just leave. Apparently, you don't understand what epidemic means. May God grant us wisdom. Some of us try to correct mass death on time, but in the name of "mind your business", the wicked people kill many. I will not wait till we are wiped off. Go and check Internet and see the % of Nigerians carrying h.pylori. If we stop shaking them in public, they say we are proud. Let me do what is needed. If curses are needed to address it, we will rain curses on them.
I am sure you care less about it. If you have a loved one suffering cancer, this rubbish you typed, you will never.
Please, find your way out of my thread. If you don't like it, leave. Expected nothing else. Keep on cursing and insulting but understand it detracts from your message. If curses could really do magic I believe we would have a better Nigeria than we do since curses have been rained on our leaders for a very long time. You go on other people's thread to give your opinion so why expect any different on your thread. Being civil is not a bad thing Have lost two loved ones to cancer but I didn't start cursing people since I don't know the cause. Curses can't address anything and you know it. You make it sound like cancer is only gotten from poor agricultural practices, which if that's the case the developed countries shouldn't even have any incidence of cancer. In fact they have the highest cancer rate (probably due to better and more accurate diagnosis), yet am sure raining curses isn't one of the ways they combat it. Do you also curse tobacco companies and everyone working there Stop the theatrics. |

Pistotita: Beans and peas are different. There are more tropical beans cultivars than peas. Someone was discussing peas with me yesterday and made me realised that Star Ayres which is one of my favorite brands has peas seeds in some its branches. Both are from South Africa, so it makes sense Shoprite is carrying the brand. Yeah..peas are more valuable, but more difficult to produce. It's more like beetroot and berries which thrive in temperate condition. The very funny issue is that wilts disturb them too. In fact, these issues are what the nairaland friend discussed with me yesterday. I was reading, and he was the one lecturing me. I was silent all through, and I told him that I agreed with almost everything he said because I have tried both crops.
The most popular beans cultivar is Contender for tropics. Its well known all over the world. And Technisem's Cora which I have used is just like Contender. It is a bushy cultivar. But the ones I prefer are polar beans which you need to stake. These ones are like indeterminate tomatoes which you should stake. Technisem has got cultivars too. Also, they produce more pods because they are indeterminates. And there are those that the pods are very long that are always folded in circular shape Please, check market very well. It's purely based on the farmer's preference. I have not done both for profit yet, but I am looking into peas too. I know they are both very good sources of income. In fact, I am presently looking for a very fast pea cultivar of around 30 to 40 days to compete with cucumber since the star Ayres cultivar is around 55 days or so, and the yield is low.
In my opinion, peas and beans need shading; therefore, I am not sure what you mean by running away from tomato to peas that you need extra cost to shade.
I believe you must have made research on them too. 1. Could you share your own findings? 2. What is the market like? How much can it be sold per kg in your area? Just started making enquiries about it. Someone said they sold 200 per kg in Ibadan last year. It was the long variety and open field |

Oga don end matter with his advise Exactly. The only unique thing about the market here is I can only sell as low as 4k cos we don't have many cucumber farmers in the state. Even during the glut period when they get from the north, the eventual landing cost makes it around 5k and of course the bagging is different |

For me here in ekiti state this is the best time to have cucumber for sale. Yampotatocarrot: Please, I noticed yellowish leaves, and although I applied NPK today as my senior boss advised, I noticed whitish marks now. Please I need to know what to do about it.
Note: I've not applied fungicide or any such in any of my planting before, only majorly manure.
Attached are the pics taken today Please try and ascertain the yellow spots are signs of nutrient deficiency and not downy mildew |

okoroemeka: it's fairly common, that's a result of injury to the delicate stem when it's small,it may be caused by heat, manure or fertilizer burn to the stem,it will not show then but when it grows and the nutrients/water requirements of the crop rises the injured stem/roots simply crumbles, that why it's good to keep cucumber stem well irrigated to prevent heat damage. Thank you so much. Noticed they have between 3-4 sizeable fruits on them. Will it recover or should I just discard them? |

okoroemeka: mancozeb + carbendazim Please I noticed some of my plants (5) suddenly wilted. From the tip to the root. Had beetle infestation last week and applied insecticide. Cut the stem 2 check if its sticky but nothing. No beetle currently seen on the farm. What else could it be? |

OluchiDelly: When I planted my Morano, I didn't take note of d shelf life as I sold it immediately after d harvest. OkoroEmeka can throw more light on dat. You, said u planted Tokyo, darina, greengo. People are really condemning Tokyo ds days in terms of DM resistance, greengo is tested n trusted from farmers report. What about d darina in terms of DM resistance? All three are not bad when the right protocol is followed. I planted the 3 both rainy season n dry season. Rainy season all 3 had DM. Started with Tokyo but it was the oldest. My spraying protocol was bad. Dry season no DM. First sign I saw cut it off and it went well |

Pistotita: @funsol What actually went wrong with your sack? I have some ideas about sack I implemented. Have you ever tried slicing tomatoes in sack? I have some ideas. Could you share your challenges? Oga I think the sack was even better in relation to planting on ground, though it could have been better because I had water challenges along the line. I noticed that when I planted during the dry season it started fruiting day 28 but for this rainy season day 25! I was actually surprised. Don't know if it's the weather or water. I plan on doing tomatoes targeting January so I can sell during this period. Probably just a plot I will use as my pilot. Still dotting my I's n crossing the T's from the info am getting from the ogas |

OluchiDelly: Which variety did u use for d 1st n 2nd ? Many years ago i had similar experience, I didn't even know what they call D. Mildew. I entered into agritropic shop got can of pointsett and planted, it did very well, sales was OK but d shelf life is poor, within 3 days, it turns yellow and d Hausa clients started complaining. Another thing I observed was d shape, bulky like yam not attractive at all. In order to please my buyer i decided to plant another variety by d side, I rushed to d shop, pick some cans, looked at d shape, I settled for marketer because of d sexy shape. Lo n behold, at d flowering stage, DM disaster came. My conclusion , pointsett, though op, has better disease resistance but poor shelf life when compare wt marketer Ist-tokyo 2nd-murano Am not going out on a limb to say its the variety until I finish this season I planted murano. The environmental conditions where I planted was also different from the first(swampy) which I think made it prone to DM. Even with the Tokyo I noticed on a particular leaf the orangey sign, cut it off and started using fungicides and the season went well. Then I monitored extremely well About this shelf life of a thing I have planted about 3 varieties (tokyo, darina and greengo)and stored for a week and it didn't rot but with the murano after 3-4 days it started showing signs of rot. Do you think it has anything to do with fungal infections? |

Pistotita: Glad you find it educative. It is a good venture. And I want baby to think more of smaller plots which are nearer. What are your own personal interests if I may ask? What are you doing? Or what do you plan to do? Am still a mini farmer, just started my foray into farming. First time in sacks wasn't too bad. Got 23 bags from close to 400 plants. Second time was a disaster on a plot (downy mildew n root knot) and couldn't monitor it. This is my third season on another plot not too far from my house so I can monitor it very well. |
