Crime / Six Quite Ways To Avoid One Chance In Abuja by Gabangel(m): 12:28am On Feb 11, 2021
I started this write-up in Opera Hub. But apart from that, I really want some more ideas on how one can avoid One Chance in Abuja. These are the most common I known and have told been from experience (like the individuals got robbed, so they take this particular precautions). I believe One chance occurs in other cities in Nigeria most especially Lagos, but these ones are the ones are know that work in Abuja.

As Abuja city has some unsafe areas or scary individuals, with space, areas or people who police or the security personnel are not able to notice; it calls to reason that citizens dwelling in Abuja should also have their own way to look after their safety when they board taxis. Most especially with “One Chance” or the kidnap, rob and dump activity that happens in a while in Abuja.
It’s interesting to note that the author, a newbie in moving to certain places in Abuja City (which I assure you is very wide compared to Lagos), was advised by some victims of one chance on how to avoid it. So let’s start.
Early last year, a lady residing in the suburbs of Abuja, in Kaura, got herself into a vehicle that stopped half way through their journey to her destination and it branched into a lonely path. There, the driver and the other two occupants of the vehicle, removed weapons and proceeded to rob her of her valuables, which included phones and the likes. She luckily did not resist them, so they pitied her and left her with N500 to use as transport. They then drove and abandoned her inside a bush along the Gwarinpa – Kubwa express way. This story is an example of a person who suffered from ONE CHANCE in Abuja, and for those who struggle or resist the thieves, the story is slightly different. Anyway, from this experience and those of others, you realize that there is a pattern to which you can avoid ONE CHANCE in Abuja.
1. Get use to entering vehicles at the park or designated parks where you notice the drivers and even the touts as it may be, know each other. Entering a vehicle passing by or “ALONG” can be risky in the far areas where the roads are sort of lonely.
2. If you can find a vehicle, look for Brekete Family Taxi. This is not an advert, but the BFT vehicles’ are mostly known to be safe and all registered; as such it is rare to hear of someone who suffered “ONE CHANCE” in a Brekete Taxi!
3. If you can afford it, use BOLT or UBER taxi services. Actually this is nice, because they practically pick you at your door step and stop at your destination…and can enter almost any estate without being stopped.
4. When you are not sure of a vehicle you are about to enter in, ask for the price. If the driver mentions something, haggle lower. If he accepts without arguing or a hitch…back out immediately.
5. Sometimes, looking at the occupants of a vehicle and discovering its only men inside can be a trigger (still in a case I know, the lady didn’t know that there was a man hiding inside the booth of the car till the driver stopped to supposedly check a fault).
6. Also if someone drops so you can seat in their middle. It’s better to refuse.
I believe there are still other ways to avoid one chance in Abuja. So, what do you think? What’s your own advice?

Education / Russian Scholarship Issues - A Letter To The President by Gabangel(m): 11:55am On Aug 16, 2016
I recently got a letter from Russia smiley from a cousin who wishes she could talk to our president...her and her friends have had serious problems with funds right from the year they entered Russia on scholarship in 2013 (not their fault, no one told them you fend for yourself once you are on a Nigerian/Russian scholarship)...I wanted to edit it but...I guess its best the president sees the situation/pain in her words embarassed...So here is Faeren Adzege, Best student of Set 2008 (I think) in Baptist High Jos, Russian Doctor in the Making talking...

Dear President, Our Daddy, our Uncle
Year in year out, it is the same ordeal for us. Was this part of the agreement we signed or am I being punished for performing excellently as a scholarship student? Then I ask, "do the men and women of power treat their own children this same way?" I mean, ten months of unpaid stipends with only nothing but debt, debt and even more debt lurking around me. I heard the 2016 budget has been signed, why then haven't we been paid till now? Who have we offended to be treated this way?
My name is Adzege Faeren and I am a Nigerian scholar currently studying in Russia under the Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) scholarship scheme.
Three years ago, I was sent to Russia to study Medicine with many mouth watering promises accompanying it. One of them was the promise of monthly stipends from the Nigerian government. However, this promise has never been a reality for us. I am most certain that many people reading this letter are already familiar with this yearly outcry from scholarship students abroad, but, I will still cry anyway.
For the past ten months, we have not received any single support from the Federal Government of Nigeria in form of stipends. What's even more disheartening is the fact that the Russian government ALWAYS fulfil(s) their own part of the bilateral agreement i.e paying our tuition and giving us some monthly support (5% compared to the stipend we are supposed to receive from the Nigerian Government), yet our fatherland Nigeria forgets about us totally.
The inability of the Nigerian Government to pay our stipends in time have left us borrowing and owing. With a new session in view, scholarship students are left with the option of getting money through various illegal means or risk being thrown out of our hostels and subsequently getting deported. Also, we need to renew our health insurances and buy warm clothes in preparation for winter. Unfortunately, we can't get these done on credit.
Or is it the case of the undergraduate students who just finished their scholarship program (majority with first class honours), who are forcefully trapped in Russia as they haven't received plane tickets and the rest of their stipends so as to go back home? A lot more cases, worse stories, yet our parents at the top are undisturbed or don't even know at all.
This leads me to wonder, "will the president, vice president, senators, minister or whoever it is, treat us this way if we were their own children?" I am certain most of their children school abroad. What I'm not certain about is if their children are owed monies for this long or even owed at all by their parents.
Please, mummy and daddy, think of us as your own and do what you will to your own children, onto us. If not for anything but for the fact that we are all Nigerians and we, your children are doing you proud in our various institutions, in Russia. PLEASE, CROWN OUR EFFORTS WITH STIPENDS. When all the conditions are favourable, we will do even more to bring more glory to our great country. All we seek is to be thought of as human beings (who need money for daily survival), to be paid our arrears and please, for the payment to be made constant.
Thanks.
Your loyal daughter,
Adzege Faeren

Foreign Affairs / Re: Nelson Mandela Was On US Terrorist Watch-List Until 2008 by Gabangel(m): 2:09pm On Dec 07, 2013
Either some of don't understand what is going on. Mandela's ANC really had terrorist inclinations, and that was the reason he as a person divorced his first wife. It is said that she kidnapped, killed and even did some horrible things which Mandela in prison did not approve of. If you watch the movie of Mandela (the old one) you would realize that at the beginning he was of the violent type...destroying electricity masts...but he changed. Still the past does have a way of catching up with us. wink

Computers / Re: Which Modem Is The Best To Use In Nigeria by Gabangel(m): 4:05pm On May 05, 2012
Modems to use depend on the best network in an area, like in the north using MTN or Etisalat modems is a sick thing to do but they are both cheap less than 6k. Then Glo which goes for 10k plus is really good but so is airtel. If you live in Abj, Lag, KD or Ph, Kano or any of the major cities I think is best to stick to Starcomm because of their pricing plan also...anyway, why not use your phone as a modem and let all these modems sellers die of hunger, I mean it really is better

Learn to respect people's phones no matter what, if you want to see it, ask the person for his phone. He or she says no don't struggle. If you ever get the chance to see what is inside never let the person know you did. It keeps you safe and trust worthy. From what you say I guess , undecided
