PoliticsRe: I Am Banking On Nigeria Not To Get Better, So I Will Support Tinubu - Keji Giwa by gabicon: 5:40pm On May 29
The options for 2027 are 6, halve a dozen and vi. Ask any of the options how they intend to solve the security issues and listen carefully to the beautiful nonsense they will say. Same goes to microeconomics, they have no clue because we have exhausted all what the textbooks solutions. All big business owners will bank on Tinubu coming back because it favours their business, that's what Keji Giwa is banking on. Our issues are no longer conventional, kidnapping of 2 year olds is lunatism.

Oga, elections are not decided or canvases for on social media. Hit the streets and stop making noise. Some people have already been given people in their neighborhood food and water since January so that we can have a say on their voting behaviour. Have you given arewa youths pure water before coming out to ask them to return Tinubus money? We behave the same way every election cycle and expect a different result.
CultureRe: The Reality Of Double Bride Price In Akwa Ibom by gabicon: 6:37am On May 07
BodyCount:
The culture and tradition of bride price is for virgins...
All these useless and senseless culture taking advantage of it to rip men off is unfair...
I don't blame the shameless parents demanding huge bride price ON CHILDREN THEY DIDN'T EVEN RAISE OR TRAIN WELL,
I blame the mumu men paying it.
How many of these girls you pay huge bride price on do you marry as virgins?

Imagine paying huge on second-hand product .
You pay huge bride price on a girl that one guy use Indomie and fanta to deflower.
Or a girl that gave it out freely as birthday or Valentine gift.
GOD FORBID EVIL SPIRIT.

If I be una, we will do the math.
HER BRIDE PRICE WILL BE DIVIDED BY HER BODYCOUNT.
If bride price is 1,000,000 and BODYCOUNT is 20,
What her parents will collect is
1000000/20 = 50k.
Historically bride price had nothing to do with virginity. In those days every member of a family was considered part of the workforce of the family. Basically, every member of a family was an employee or staff of the family. As a result, if the someone took a member of the family by marriage it was only fair that adequate compensation be made for taking away a staff and adding them to another workforce.
CareerRe: I Agree With The Statement Of What The CEO Of Moniepoint Said And Here's Why by gabicon: 1:05pm On May 06
Hamachi:
i noticed a consistent behavioural pattern among Nigerian billionaires who run big businesses.

This behaviour is pronounced more among Mike Adenuga of Glo Brand and Aliko Dangote.

The behaviour is this: these business owners hardly hire Nigerians as business executives to run their businesses.

They prefer to travel as far as Pakistan, India, or Lebanon to hire their nationals to come to Nigeria to run their business.

Dangote's top executives are mainly from India and then Lebanese, while Mike prefers hiring Pakistan nationals to run Glo for him with his daughter Bella.

Dangote started hiring indians business executives when he was a trader and since he transitioned into an industrialist, he has not looked back as he has doubled down in hiring them.

Hiring these guys comes at a steep price.

Most Dangote Group executives are Lebanese or Indian, and their annual salaries are up to 300 million naira per annum when converted to our local currency.

Aside from the high cost that they charge as salaries, you provide a duplex accommodation in Ikoyi or Banana Island with an SUV for them.

You also provide Hilux vehicle with policemen protecting them against kidnappers since they are endangered specie because of their white complexion.

Devakumar V. G. Edwin is one of Dangote's trusted lieutenants, as Aliko does not joke with him.

He has been with him since 1992, when he joined the business as a general manager.

At that time, Dangote was still a mega importer and a trader.

Edwin helped to transition the Dangote group into the industrial behomth that it is today from a trading company.

He is the one supervising the refinary project in Lekki for Dangote as Dangote trusted him so much, having supervised the building of the cement plants for the group all over Africa.

When you convert what Devakumar V. G. Edwin earns into Naira because he is paid in dollars by the Dangote group, the man earns more than 350 million naira salary per year.

Just like the rest of Dangote's top executives, he is an Indian national, and it is the same story across the whole gamut of Dangote's executives. .

The CEO Of Dangote sugar, RAVINDRA SINGH is an Indian national.

The same with the CEO of Dangote Cement.

Now i want to understand:

why, despite the high cost of hiring them, are these Forbes billionaires more comfortable hiring Pakistanis, indians, or Lebanese than Nigerians to manage their businesses in Nigeria?

Are they more ruthlessly efficient than their Nigerian business executives?

Is there any reason why this is so?
My dear these guys are more ruthlessly productive and efficient than Nigerians. I was seconded to a company that was purchased by a British company and they decided to remove the Indians in the company and replace them with Nigerians after 6 months that decision was reversed. I say nepotism, sabotage, craftiness, politics and highhandedness our Nigerian brother caved the Indians survived. I asked an Indian how they managed to always end up on top, he said India is very similar to Nigeria and they have to master the act of survival and competition while doing the job but we Nigerians can't do both at the same time.
CareerRe: I Agree With The Statement Of What The CEO Of Moniepoint Said And Here's Why by gabicon: 12:52pm On May 06
IyaTola:
Nigeria has talent. That is not in doubt.
But talent alone is not enough in a global market.

Recently, the CEO of Moniepoint mentioned they had over 500 open roles they struggled to fill with Nigerians who meet global standards. That statement may sound harsh, but it reflects a reality many recruiters quietly deal with every day.

The jobs exist. The opportunities exist.
But there’s a gap between available talent and job readiness.

Let’s be honest about why.

Yes, our education system is struggling. Many graduates leave school without practical, job-ready skills. But beyond that, there are patterns we need to confront ourselves.

Take social media, for example.
Entertainment dominates attention. Comedy, gossip, and viral trends outperform thoughtful, educational content almost every time.

And no—it’s not just “the algorithm.”
The algorithm amplifies what we consistently choose.

When serious conversations struggle to gain traction, while light content spreads rapidly, it reflects a deeper preference. Over time, that preference shapes our thinking, our habits, and ultimately, our competence.

We are living in an era where the internet gives us access to world-class knowledge—for free.
Yet many people spend hours consuming content that adds little to their growth.

That is not just a technology problem.
It is a discipline problem.

But that’s only one side of the story.

Recruiters hiring Nigerians often highlight additional challenges:

- Skill mismatch: Degrees that don’t align with industry needs, especially in tech, finance, and operations.

- Poor communication skills: Difficulty expressing ideas clearly, both in writing and speaking.

- Lack of problem-solving ability: Many candidates struggle with practical thinking beyond theory.

- Inconsistent work ethic: Not necessarily laziness, but lack of structure, focus, and follow-through.

- Entitlement mindset: Expecting high pay or senior roles without demonstrable skills or experience.

- Weak digital literacy: Basic tools like spreadsheets, email etiquette, or documentation are often underdeveloped.

- Poor interview preparation: Candidates showing up without researching the company or role.

- Limited accountability: Blaming external factors without actively improving personal capacity.

These are uncomfortable truths, but ignoring them doesn’t make them disappear.

At the same time, it’s important to acknowledge systemic realities—unemployment pressure, economic instability, and limited access to quality training also play a role. Not everyone starts from the same position.

Still, personal responsibility remains a powerful lever.

So what can you actually do?

1. Be intentional about what you consume.
If your screen time doesn’t challenge you, it is limiting you.

2. Engage with content that stretches your thinking.
The most valuable insights are often not the most popular.

3. Learn how money works.
Financial literacy is no longer optional.

4. Build a practical digital skill.
It doesn’t have to be advanced—start with competence, then grow.

5. Strengthen your communication.
Clear thinking and clear expression will set you apart.

6. Develop consistency and discipline.
Talent without structure rarely scales.

7. Work on your character.
Skills may get you hired, but reliability, attitude, and integrity keep you employed.

There are opportunities out there. Real ones.
But opportunity does not automatically translate to access.

Preparation is the bridge.

The seats may be empty.
The real question is: are you becoming the kind of person who can sit in one?
Nigeria's can be emotional about many things. We claim to have top talents, were are the stuff they have built? The talents in India, Asia, Europe and America build stuff. The true test of talent is in what they are able to deliver. What have our talents in Nigeria built?

Because of the developmental nature of our economy, talent development can be pretty difficult. For instant I was in an interview for a candidate that had to do with online marketing, the job required managing a seven figure dollar marketing budget monthly, all the talent that were interviewed had not spent up to $10,000 on marketing. It would be risky to give $1m to a talent whose capacity is $10k, it most likely will end in premium tears. I probed further, and found out we don't have up to 10 organisations in Nigeria with that budget for that role and those organisations don't have more than 2 people each in that role. Safe to say an Indian got the job.

We have not had a functioning refinery in the last 30 years, were is Dangote going to get talent to run the refinery? Some say he should train new engineers, how long will it take to train them? What happens to the facility and the loans while these people are being trained?

There is a difference between you being a programmer and you actively working with a team on a project of international scale. The skill is different.

Within the week a discussion erupted among a circle and the India guy was complaining about the Nigerian talent, he said he has to hold his hand on most tasks and he has had same issue with many Nigerians. A last chance was brokered for our talent if he doesn't cut it they are going to India to get a replacement.

In this same discussion, the India guy checked the engagement on the topic on X and it was like 42k and he questioned our productivity.

If we are as good as we think we are let build stuff that can compete on the international market, being a keypad warrior is easy.

PoliticsRe: How ADC Can Defeat APC And Tinubu by gabicon: 10:37am On Mar 31
Kalulu44:
Good morning NL, welcome to another brand new day and week.
Back to the topic.
I'm not a politician, don't support anyone nor party. Infact I started learning politics on this forum. But I still have one or two things to always say about our political climate and especially about the 2027 general election.
.
It's no longer news that APC and president Tinubu doesn't have any opposition. PDP, LP, APGA has already endorsed president Tinubu for re-election. The only party trying to behave like a serious opposition is the ADC. They have some political heavyweights and if Kwankwaso and Makinde should join them, they may become formidable but......
The but there is bcus of a clash of interest.
Almost all the heavyweights bar Makinde wants to be the presidential candidate.
And my mind and permutation is telling, any of them that doesn't get the ticket will want to work against the candidate or their supporters will do.
And among all of them (I am assuming Kwankwaso and Makinde to be among) only Atiku and Obi have a wider supportership across the nation. Kwankwaso and Makinde only has regional support, I don't even know if Ameachi has any support base, so this guys are rule out remaining Atiku and Obi.
Any of this latter two that didn't get the ticket, my earlier disposition comes into play.
And with all this playing out, it's a straight victory for president Tinubu.
.
But if they want to give president Tinubu and APC a serious run for their money, they all have to come together, puts heads together and present a consensus candidates that all of them will support both financially and morally.
So here's my own suggestion and pairing that will give APC a serious fight.
Mr Abubakar Atiku, if I am one of your adviser. I will just tell you to forgo this your presidential ambition and become an elder statesman and godfather to the other aspirants cus the odds are not in your favor.
If ADC should present you, you're from the North and the South won't want to handover their remaining Four years to North, even Obidients will vote for Tinubu or abstain from the election totally. That will be a big win for president Tinubu.
Same goes for Kwankwaso.
It now goes down to Amaechi and Obi who are from the South. And like I said earlier, Amaechi doesn't have the type of Supportership Obi has.
The onus now fall on Obi.
.
But before Obi should be made the consensus candidate. He has to be made to swear with anything or gods they have to consult that he will only complete the remaining 4yr tenure of the south and hand over to the North.
That Northerner now is between Atiku and Kwankwaso. At 83 yrs of age by 2031, I still think Atiku should forgo the ambition and leave it for Kwankwaso.
Now, for Kwankwaso to get that 2031 ticket. He has to be told to swallow his pride and ego and become VP to Obi to complete the South 4yr tenure.
Then when it gets to his turn, he will pick between Amaechi or Makinde as his VP. Even though I doubt Amaechi will want to become one. But with the promise that any of them that is left out will become the consensus candidate when the North finish serving their turn. Even though I don't know how old they'll both be by 2039.
.
So folks, with all this in place and all the heavyweights in ADC pulling in one direction. I believe Obi/Kwankwaso ticket with the full support of other heavyweights like Atiku, Amaechi, Makinde, El Rufai, Malami and co, together with Obi and Kwankwaso supporters will give president Tinubu and APC a serious fight and can eventually win.
Anything aside that is a straight victory for president Tinubu before 12 noon on election day.
This is just my wishful thinking and permutations, will the ADC and the numerous egos in the party tow that line, we awaits.
The odds are against ADC. They have to fight a political Mafia, they have to fight incumbency, they have a crop of heavy weights that are near impossible to mix.

Kwankwoso of 2023 is not same as Kwankwoso of 2026, he has a political base that is split into 3, his base, ganduje base and the present governors base. 5 Million votes from Kano to ADC is not happening.

Obi unlike kwankwoso joined ADC from a place of weakness, he should have waited till the tail end when ADC is desperate before he joined them, as it stands he has no bargaining power at ADC, they will try and convince Obi to deputise for Atiku with a promise of the ticket after Atiku, that on its own has no guarantees. Should Obi get the ticket and win the election, the north will suffocate his government and he won't have any other choice to dance to their tune. He should have stayed at Labour party and built stronger alliances in the north in the last 3 years. Obi doesn't like doing the dirty work of politicking, he doesn't realise that to be a successful president 75% of the work is politics.

This is going to be Atiku's last chance being president and he knows it, so he is going to put everything into getting the ticket and to be honest he stands the best chances to sweep northern votes for ADC.

Amechi is playing bet naija, if it favours him fine if not fine also.

President Obasanjo said something about El'Rufai, he is not matured politically. He is playing the bitterness game. Politics is like fiction, you can't live in it for too long else you get disillusioned, you have to transition into real life most of the time and leave fiction behind.

https://www.thecable.ng/tinubu-has-4-options-on-petrol-prices-only-one-will-work-for-your-wallet/
Tough call, Tinubu's economic antecedents tilts towards market forces determining prices and market regulating itself. That type of paradigm doesn't allow price regulation or reducing cost of raw materials, it wont prepare the market for shocks like the present war in Iran or the Russian war 4 years ago. In a way it makes sense to sell crude to every and anyone in USD because our debts are denominated in that currency and our lenders are not smiling. We are not liquid enough to subsidise petroleum products. on the mid to long term we have to invest in mass transits like trains in the National and sub national levels because the people most badly hit by these economic shocks will benefit from them.
PoliticsRe: What Does The Strait of Hormuz Have To Do With Nigeria's Rising Petrol Prices? by gabicon: 7:33pm On Mar 08
givedemwotowoto:
This is a rejoinder to: Petrol Price May Hit N1,800 In Nigeria- Refiners Warn

20% of global oil passes through the Strait of Hormuz. We get it.

But here are the facts:

1. Almost all of Nigeria's crude oil is sweet crude.

2. Dangote Refinery has the capacity to process 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day.

3. Nigeria's daily consumption of crude oil is 327,000 barrels per day (or 52 million liters per day).

4. This means Dangote Refinery can process 100% of Nigeria's daily consumption locally.

So for the defenders of fuel price increase, explain to us why there is fuel price increase at Nigeria's petrol stations.

Before you come with Canada argument, let me preempt you:
Most of Canada’s crude is heavy crude and almost half of the 16 refineries can’t refine heavy crude, so the crude oil needs to be exported to the U.S. for refining. Because it is exported abroad, global oil price will affect it: you export at a high price due to demand, you import at a higher price.
50% of the cost of petrol is associated with the cost of crude oil. If crude oil goes up so does petrol.

The oversight of state and federal police has to be well defined. The mode of recruitment has to be painstaking transparent.

If you don't believe it go and ask the people in Aba who geometric energy was supplying 24hrs electric, it started from him jubilation to groaning on crazy bills. We should stop trying to pretend that our systems are perfect, if i buy a signal jammer and give it to all my agents to ensure that the results cant be uploaded online on the bvas machine, does that invalidate the votes in that polling unit? As much as we want transparency, nobody ought to be disenfanchised in the process. A better plan will have been to add it to the law that the primarily recognised result is the electronic result and every manual result as a result of network issues is subject to revalidation or cancelattion and stipulate the terms of revalidation. If you cant win totally, win marginally. shouting ole is counter productive, think outside the box.
Christianity EtcRe: After Genuine Salvation Does Restitution Have Any Relevance In Eternity? by gabicon: 11:12am On Feb 15
cutecommend:
When a sinner accepts Jesus and genuinely repents from all sins, old things are passed away and all things are become new.

But lets look at these questions.
(1) If a man has stolen vehicles and now rides them, should he continue riding the vehicles after he gets born again or should he return them?

(2) If a man secretly takes his neighbour's children and kills them for rituals, and his neighbour keeps looking for these kids: now if the man gets born again, should he watch his neighbour look for the kids or should he confess the act?

(3) If a married woman has four children and she fully knows two of the kids are not for her husband, and her husband is boasting of the kids and spending millions on them. Now, if she gets born again, should she watch her husband "progress" in deception, continue boasting and spending millions?

When someone get's born again, their names are written in the Book of Life, but as time goes, if they have things they need to return, confess, restitute, the Holy Spirit begins to remind them of these things for them to restitute it. If they fail to do it, it becomes disobedience and their names will be removed from the Book of Life.

Restitution not done can hinder a Christian from entering heaven, and if you think you can take a secret worthy of confession to the grave, you may find yourself in hell fire after death.

The HolySpirit can help you to have a successful restitution without punishment.
You need to be very careful about restitution and who you listen to about the topic. There are many things the blood of Jesus covers as a result of repentance, such things don't require restitution. However there are sins that bring an accusation in the courts of heaven, like the blood of Abel or Saul killing some people, those things require restitution.
We have to depend on the spirit of God to know what requires restitution. If a man is telling you to restitute, most times you don't require restitution.

Restitution is required to make right accusations in the courts of heaven.
Some things can't be restituted like rape, or disvirging under false pretence, in such situations forgiveness is what suffices.

Uncle Allen, the largest contribution to ticket price is fuel cost which gulps about 40% to 50% of operations cost. But we now have dangote refinery that can bring down that cost.

Borrowing is also expensive in Nigeria, coupled with airport charges.

We also need to consider purchasing power of the people and the cost of borrowing.

If we try to enforce foreign prices on our airlines it's only a matter of time a number of them will fold up from lack of customers.

Furthermore, the average cost of a one-hour flight in the US at off peak periods is between $100 to $200. Budget deals is between $75 to $150. And peak periods is above $200. The question becomes where did uncle Allen get $400 from?

A Nigerian lady has taken to social media to express shock and confusion after discovering that several ShopRite outlets in Abuja were shut down.

According to her, she first visited ShopRite at Silverbird Galleria, only to find the store completely closed. Thinking it was a one-off issue, she proceeded to ShopRite at Jabi Lake Mall, but met the same situation — doors locked.

Still hoping to shop, the lady then headed to ShopRite at Novare Gateway Mall, Lugbe, but was left stunned once again as the outlet was also shut down.

Clearly disturbed by the repeated closures, she took to social media to ask the big question on everyone’s mind:
“I went to ShopRite Abuja and it was shut down everywhere. Has ShopRite finally closed in Nigeria?”

Her post has since sparked massive reactions online, with many Nigerians sharing similar experiences, while others speculate about rising costs, economic pressure, and possible store shutdowns.

As of now, ShopRite has not officially announced a complete exit from Nigeria, but the growing number of closed outlets has left shoppers worried and searching for answers.

The world economy has been shaky since the escalation of the war in Ukraine, many businesses have gone through a cleanup by letting go for less profitable entities. The owners of ShopRite decided to exit it's division in Nigeria and a Nigerian investor bought it, buying an already struggling business is a lot of hard work. Unfortunately, they have not been able to overcome the challenges of the business.

Kidnapping is not about any group in particular, it has been shown to be a very lucrative venture, and the Nigerian spirit of milking any lucrative venture is in play. The problem is, there are no enforced consequences to kidnapping in Nigeria, until we fix that, we go no where.

As a man, father, parent or gurdian, put your house in order long before you die. You can't have 48 children from different mothers and not expect some commotion when you are gone.

The governors are complicit to this menace, put pressure on the legislative to make kidnapping and terrorism a capital offence punishable by death. Until we do that, we are not going anywhere.

All these long stories are not needed, It was until USA led by George Bush in 2002/2003 waged in to the war that it ended, ECOWAS have been trying to end and they did not, I'm not a kid, I followed up the whole events then, I have had access to satellite tv since the 90's, so I watched events unfold as it was happening....

George Bush made the major move and instructed OBJ to go and finalize things... I still remember the videos of U.S envoys entering Liberia and people jubilating, though it wasn't a full scale military invasion but the U.S presence in Liberia ended it.
I recall watching it and the white soldiers that were welcomed in Liberia wore blue helmets, which is the UN not US.

Why was it until the U.S government fully got involved ?
First of all for some context, Liberia was founded in the 19th century by freed African-Americans under the auspices of the American Colonization Society. The Americans has vested interest in the country from the get go.

Secondly, Over the decades, Liberia maintained a special relationship with the U.S., including military training, economic assistance, and strategic cooperation. It wasn't like the US just showed up, they were always there.

Thirdly during the first civil war in Liberia, the U.S. did not militarily intervene to remove Doe, nor did it deploy large-scale combat troops to restore order. Instead, its involvement was more limited: evacuation of U.S. citizens, diplomatic engagement, encouragement of mediation, etc.

Lastly, in answer to your question, the war in Liberia did not end solely as a result of direct large-scale intervention by the United States government. Instead, its conclusion was the product of multilateral efforts — primarily regional, diplomatic and United Nations-driven — combined with U.S. support in certain roles.

The United Nations, via United Nations Security Council Resolution 1497 (1 August 2003), authorised a multinational force to support the cease-fire and peace process in Liberia.

Regional actors such as Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and regional forces played the lead role in enforcement and peacekeeping.

The U.S. was involved, but its involvement was relatively limited, often through evacuation operations, logistical assistance or supporting the broader multinational mission rather than being the primary force ending the war.

So using Liberia as a case study is a weak argument, the parameters are different.
