Romance(pic)Why Do Men Cheat? by Gabrielwilliams(op): 9:46am On Sep 08, 2015
Why do men cheat? women ask this age long question. there seems to be no answer to this puzzle. women often wonder “with the way i show him so much love me, why did he cheat on me?” Questions, questions and more questions.

When i opened this blog, i never thought i would write about my experiences or affairs but this seemingly putrid question begs for answers. why do men cheat? or rather, why did i cheat on my girlfriend. well, technically, i didn’t really cheat on my girlfriend ( or so i thought), what i thought was a seemingly harmless activity turned out to be much more than i thought. Let me get straight to the point

It started out as a romantic, seemingly harmless outing. I had planned for it to be awesome because we don’t get to see each other during the week due to work engagements.

We where chilling in one joint like that when my girlfriend gently asks me to buy her something to eat, after all, its a joint that serves food and drinks. i made 3 mistakes.

#Mistake 1; I left my phone on the table and i got up to place our order

#Mistake 2; i didn’t change the password to my phone( she obviously knows my password)

#Mistake 3; i shouldn’t have been flirting with any other girl asides from my girlfriend

So, that’s how the abominable happened. I came back to our table to find a very angry looking girl that resembled my girlfriend. I started prodding and asking her what the problem was. She was just shouting in anger that i had let her down and betrayed her., that i don’t respect her and that i should go away. I should have handled the situation with more panache. Needless to say, the manager had to be called in to come sort out our differences.

The question is, why did i cheat? Its not as if i am not in love with my girlfriend, i am. So why did flirt with the other girl? Maybe its because i thought sex-chatting didn’t mean anything. This is because i have never met the other girl. We where just chat buddies online. i knew there was no way we will meet n carry out our nefarious activities but why did i encourage the chat? It doesn’t make sense. How will i feel if the roles were reversed?

I think men cheat because we want to explore other options out there. We want to know if we can still attract girls knowing we are in a relationship. We want to experience the thrill of pursuing and feeling a new girl. This is not good because it makes us selfish, inconsiderate and untrustworthy(am still trying to mend fences with my girlfriend)

I think the way to avoid cheating on your girlfriend is to try and remember what attracted you to her in the first place. Reignite the feeling u had when you first kissed her. Ladies, always try and stay fit. no one likes a ‘has been’… Complement your man, when you guys quarrel, settle it before the break of dawn. Dont get too pushy, give him a little space, we don’t like our girls constantly checking us. That is what makes us cheat in the first place.

Finally, love eachother like you never loved before

PoliticsMilitants Take Over Arepo Creeks In Ogun by Gabrielwilliams(op): 10:53am On Aug 21, 2015
Few weeks ago, the media was awash with news of a pipeline explosion at Arepo, Ogun state, where scores of vandals were reportedly burnt to death. The cause of the explosion which started the fire that was put out next day by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC was attributed to a scuffle between groups of vandals over ownership of a particular section of the NNPC owned pipeline, during which a shot fired by a member of the rival faction, hit the pipeline.

That incident was not the first of its kind in recent times at Arepo. Infact, that area has become a haven for criminal activities by vandals who seem to have thrown caution to the wind as they vandalise pipelines and siphon petroleum products, without fear of molestation by security agents.

Information at Vanguard’s disposal showed that these vandals who are drawn from different parts of the country could be militants in disguise . From all indications, they seem to have taken over the entire creeks at Arepo.

Vandals are animals – Olu of Arepo

The traditional rulers around Arepo and its environs have been accused of aiding and abetting activities of vandals in Arepo and Ikorodu . But the Olu of Arepo, Oba Atanda Oyebisi, dissociated himself from the accusation, condemning the last explosion in its entirety , lamenting that vandals have succeeded in tarnishing the image of the community.

SportsWhy I Joined Chelsea — Pedro(photo) by Gabrielwilliams(op): 6:57pm On Aug 20, 2015
Former Barcelona star, Pedro Eliezer Rodríguez Ledesma, has declared that he joined Chelsea FC to win titles.

Chelsea on Thursday announced the signing of Pedro from Barcelona.

The Spaniard arrives as a highly coveted winger who can also play as a central striker. He is proven at the very highest level and already possesses an impressive medal haul.

The 28-year-old has accumulated three Champions Leagues and five La Liga titles, as well as being a world and European champion on the international stage.

He said: ‘I am very happy to be here. I am very excited to start my adventure at Chelsea and I am here to keep winning titles.

‘Thanks to the club and the supporters for giving me the opportunity to put the blue shirt on,’ he told Chelsea official website

Born in Tenerife, the diminutive Pedro, whose full name is Pedro Eliezer Rodríguez Ledesma, signed for Barςa’s academy in 2004 and made his first-team debut in January 2008 after catching the eye for their B team.

By 2009/10, the two-footed, fast and direct winger had become an important part of the Barcelona team. He was the first player ever to score in the Spanish league, Copa del Rey, Champions League, both the European and Spanish Super Cups as well as the World Club Cup.

His brilliant performances at club level saw him secure a place in the Spain squad for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Pedro started both the semi-final and final, and was a key figure in their victory over the Netherlands.

A year later he scored the opening goal in the Champions League final at Wembley as Barςa beat Manchester United 3-1.

He was a substitute alongside then Chelsea players Fernando Torres and Juan Mata in Spain’s Euro 2012 victory over Italy. The winger was also part of the squad which travelled to Brazil for the 2014 World Cup.

Pedro came on as a late substitute in Barcelona’s most recent major success – May’s Champions League final win over Juventus in Berlin. He concluded his time at the Catalan club in the most memorable manner, scoring the winning goal in their 5-4 UEFA Super Cup triumph over Sevilla.

Politics22 Boko Haram Members Discovered Among Nigerians Deported From Cameroon(photo) by Gabrielwilliams(op):
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has discovered 22 Boko Haram members among Nigerians deported from Cameroon who were put at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Mubi, Adamawa.

Mr Muhammad Sani Sidi, Director-General of NEMA, disclosed this at the 18th Safe Schools Initiative Technical Committee meeting on Thursday in Abuja.

Sidi stated that the Boko Haram members were identified with a peculiar mark on their backs amongst the 12,000 Nigerians deported from Cameroon put in IDPs camp in Mubi.

He added that 90 per cent of the deported persons were from Borno.

“The Cameroonian government dumped 12,000 Nigerians at Mubi and we had to move them to transit camps and even open more camps to accommodate them.

“Ninety per cent of these returnees are from Borno with a lot of Boko Haram elements among them.

“We arrested 22 of them yesterday who were actually planning an attack, they were identified with a mark inscribed on their backs with hot iron in form of tattoos.

“The mark on their backs indicates that they are ready to die,’’ Sidi said.

He said there were 23 residential camps in Borno and that the state government planned to open more as the number of displaced persons was increasing.

On the safe school initiative, Sidi commended the Adamawa team for recruiting 71 teachers to scale up education in IDP camps.

He urged other State Governors in the North-East to show commitment that safety and security of students were guaranteed before the team could rebuild the schools that were destroyed by insurgency.

In his address, Mr Baba Kalli, Desk Officer, Safe School Initiative from Borno, said that almost all the schools in Borno had been occupied by IDPs.

Kalli said that NEMA had taken over the catering for 23 camps but that the problem persisted as population of the IDPs kept increasing.

He solicited for more assistance for all Borno indigenes while thanking all their donor agencies for their assistance, so far.

PoliticsDeath Toll In Nigeria Boko Haram Massacre Rises To 160: Locals by Gabrielwilliams(op): 2:21pm On Aug 19, 2015
The number of villagers massacred by Boko Haram jihadists in a remote village in northeastern Nigeria rose to 160 on Wednesday, according to locals, amid official denials over the attack.

Residents of Kukuwa-Gari in Yobe State described how more than 150 of their relatives and neighbours drowned in a river fleeing militants who opened fire on the village on Thursday last week, while another eight were shot dead.

A local official put the death toll at a much lower 50 while the Director of Defence Information, Colonel Rabe Abubakar, was quoted by the private Channels TV news station as saying reports of the incident were “untrue”.

The villagers’ count of the dead in Kukuwa-Gari would constitute the largest loss of life in any single Boko Haram attack since President Muhammadu Buhari swept to power on May 29, vowing to crush the insurgency.

Telecommunications in Kukuwa-Gari are almost non-existent, but villagers who fled to nearby settlements said those who returned had buried 160 bodies, while many feared going back while there was no official acknowledgement of the attack.

Alhaji Kankana Sarkin-Baka, leader of a local group of hunters co-opted to fight the insurgency alongside vigilante groups, said 17 fighters had come on motorcycles, including a local Boko Haram emir, or commander.

“They had superior firepower because they were using modern guns while we were using hunting guns. We were outpowered but they were outnumbered,” he told AFP.

He said six of the fighters positioned themselves by the river, blocking the only escape route, and opened fire on fleeing residents, forcing to them to jump into the water.

– ‘No troops deployed’ –

“This led to the huge death toll we recorded. So far we have buried 160 people. And out of this number only eight bodies had gunshot wounds, which means all the others drowned,” he told AFP.

“Up to this moment no troops have deployed. Our major operational challenge is good weapons to effectively counter possible any possible further attack by Boko Haram. All we have are hunting guns,” Sarkin-Baka told AFP.

Kukuwa-Gari resident Modu Balumi, who had fled to neighbouring Gombe State, told AFP his sister-in-law and two of her children were among several villagers still missing.

“Honestly, I am not happy with the way the military tried to deny that our village was attacked. Many of us who are yet to return have changed our minds about going back by this stance of the military,” he told AFP.

Boko Haram has waged a violent campaign for a separate Islamic homeland in the northeast which has seen more than 15,000 deaths since 2009.

“The fact that reports of the Kukawa-Gari massacre are only being reported five days after the fact… suggests that there was unlikely any discernible security presence in the region at the time the militant incursion took place,” Ryan Cummings, chief security analyst at South African consultancy Red 24, told AFP.

PoliticsNDLEA Intercepts N48m, 814kg Cannabis At Abuja by Gabrielwilliams(op): 8:54am On Aug 19, 2015

PoliticsThe World Of Sports Betting by Gabrielwilliams(op):
Until very recently, pool staking and the ubiquitous lottery, popularly known as Baba Ijebu, were the popular gambling systems known to most Nigerians.

While pool staking, tied mainly to the different tiers of European football leagues, had been around for so long, long before young people even became sucked into the frenzy of supporting foreign football clubs, Baba Ijebu, only came onto the scene in the last decade or so.

But while the two processes can be regarded as the forerunners of gambling in Nigeria, there is a new system known widely as sports betting.

Like pool, it has to do with sports, hence the name; although, many Nigerians wrongly refer to it as Nairabet. Nairabet is just one of the registered and most popular companies that is active in the football betting business.

Known to have originated in North America and parts of Europe, sports betting are described as the activity of predicting sports results, especially football matches, and placing a wager on the outcome which is generally considered to be a form of gambling.

In the last three years or so, more Nigerians, especially from the age of 14 and 45, seem to have embraced sports betting, making it the most popular emerging form of sorts gambling in the country. Beyond Lagos State, sports betting are popular in most Nigerian cities and even rural areas, owing to the popularity of football and its huge following in the country which the form of gambling is tied to.

And with football fans who would rather support their teams for free, realizing that they can earn money from predicting scores, match results and others, it is spreading like a wildfire..

And like Sunday Bankole, an agent of 1960Bet, one of the popular outfits in the betting business and who runs Odejobi 01 unit at Odejobi Street, Agege, said, “there are several sports games like basketball, tennis, snooker, baseball, cricket and football to choose from, but football matches of European leagues, particularly the English Premier League (EPL), Spanish La Liga, Italian Serie A, as well as the ongoing FIFA World Cup and Nigerian Premier League excite Nigerians more.

Explain how the gambling/betting works, he said “there are different types of betting, you can predict scores if you like and you can predict a draw. If they give you first half draw, nothing concerns you with the second half since they have drawn the first half. But if any of them wins, it means you have lost.”

Asked how much most people pay for a wager, he said most go for the N100 wager since he started the business in the densely populated area of Lagos State last November. And the highest anyone has staked before in his outlet, the young man, who sounds fairly educated, said that N50,000 is the highest he has dealt with in his shop before, with a N30,000 wager coming next to that.

And regarding winnings, he said, “somebody has won N1 million, someone has won half a million, N300, 000 and so on through this shop.”

As an agent, he added that he is also allowed to bet since he cannot manipulate winning the process.

“Of course, I’m a football fan. I, personally, have placed a wager of like N5, 000 before. If I bet like N5, 000 and I win, I will be happy and will get my money.

He explained that one can stake online saying, “but, before you can play online you would have to create an account and attach your personal bank account.”

With online platforms of sports betting like , Goldenbetsng.com, , Nairastake.com, Footballpoolsxtra.com, Ladbrokes.com, 888sport.com/bet, Betconlony.com, Bet365Naija.com, 360bet.ng, 9japredict.com, mybet9ja.com, 1960bet.ng and many others, the coast of betting and gambling business in Nigeria is indeed growing by the day.

But with the internet and its technicality not something everyone is grounded in, in this clime, many of the companies, like Bakonle Managing Centres have made betting easy for those who computer illiterates.

Investigations by Saturday Independent reveal the agents can accept bets with deposits, pre-loaded cash cards and Interswitch cards and the markets for selling bets are open 24 hours of the day and seven days in a week. The agents do redeem winning tickets on behalf of the customer while the online customers on the other hand play via the internet platform, with payments and winnings made and claimed via online transactions.

The agents make profits through commissions on every game played at their centres each week and they can make as much as N70, 000 or N80, 000 in a week depending on the volume of transactions done through them.

To play, each team is assigned a different odd, which is what the players stake their bet on and such players have up to the kick-off time to bet their odds, either on the final score, draw, win, first to score, time of score and mode of score among others.

For each staker, the amount to be won is determined by the accuracy of the prediction and the amount staked on the odds, since the winner is usually determined by multiplying the odds and the amount.

The odd is the percentage given to every game in relation to its strength and are always in decimal forms like 1.00, 2.50 or 1.65 depending on the team and wager.

Seye Akanji who works with an advertising agency in Lagos but he is an ardent lover of football, said that the fact that Nigeria is a football loving nation is part of what is fueling the growth of sports betting, noting that it is a good development since fans are also making money from their passion.

On the risks involved, he said “anything can happen; even businesses can collapse. So, one cannot be too sure of anything.” He, however, advised people who wish to place bets to be well versed in whatever type of bet they want to place, in order to minimise the level of risk.

Nuhu Waheed, a trader who hails from the Kabba area of Kogi State, had this to say when asked why he thinks married women are getting involved in sports gambling even if it is legitimate: “Everybody wants money. Everybody would like to multiply the amount they have at hand and that is why married women play the game also.”

A young man who gave his name as Tiamiyu Alabi told us that he owns a centre at Grammar School Bus Stop close to Ojodu, a suburb of Lagos State where sports betting goes on. According to him, not only students and married women play the game, even police officers are involved.

Alabi recounted how a police officer at the Grammar School Police Station played a game and refused to pay him just because he did not win. Asked if people are allowed to play on credit, he said that was a peculiar case where he allowed the officer to play based on personal recognition.

According to the young man, “gone are the days when some sort of stigma is on gambling and gamblers. Most of those who engage are adults as well as a few of the elderly people. The act is now common with the youth of today especially as sports betting has made gambling more accessible and fashionable to the youth who now find it easier to place bets on premiership games and other leagues including La Liga and Seria A.”

For several jobless young people in Nigeria, sport betting and others including the popular Baba Ijebu has become sources of income.

A particular viewing center in the Ikosi area of Ketu, Lagos is always jam packed, with young boys flocking the location day and night to bet on games. A young man who introduced himself as Lukmon, revealed that boys just out of secondary school comprise a bulk of his customers.

“They just finished school and they haven’t entered university, so if they bet and they win, it is a fast way for them to make money before they enter school,” Lukmon said, in Yoruba. When he was informed that it is actually illegal to allow underage people to gamble, Lukmon became wary, thinking the reporter is a policeman.

But while several of the people Saturday Independent spoke to claimed that they have no data or evidence to prove it that internet fraudsters popularly known as yahoo boys are embracing sports betting, most of them agreed that most of the yahoo boys who are giving the country the bad image of a country of internet fraudsters may have embraced the emerging betting trend. What with the easy cash that can come based on predicting matches and placing wagers accurately. Cc. http://www.dailyindependent.ng
