ABOUT ten persons are feared dead in Oyibo Local Government Area of Rivers State following an explosion in a pipeline in the area. The incident reportedly occurred in Kom Kom community of the LGA, about midday yesterday. Sources close to the scene said the explosion sparked off fire which supposedly burnt the victims. The Police in the state confirmed the incident but could not ascertain the actual number of casualty as at the time of filing this report. Meanwhile President Muhammadu Buhari has asked for a thorough investigation to determine what is responsible for the gas pipeline tragedy in Oyibo Local Government Area of Rivers State in which several fatalities were reported. The President, according to a statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, is extremely pained by the losses of life in the incident and expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and to the government and people of Rivers State. Speaking to The Nation on a telephone interview yesterday, the spokesman of the State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said, ‘It is true that there was pipeline explosion in Kom Kom area of Oyibo LGA, but we cannot ascertain the number of casualties now, but our men are there to calm the situation and do the necessity.” He said the State Police Command has commenced full scale investigation on the incident. Also, the Executive Chairman of the council, Gerald Oforji, confirmed the incident and put the number of lives lost at 10 Oforji said the bodies of the victims were recovered from the scene after the fire was put out. He said that no house was destroyed when the explosion occurred. However, earlier reports said the affected pipeline belonged to SPDC. But the spokesman of Shell, Bamidele Oladosu, was reported to have denied any report of explosion on the company’s Oyigboland facility. The Nation later gathered last night that the pipeline that exploded in Oyigbo, Rivers State, that led to the death of ten persons, actually belongs to the Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC), a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). A source in NNPC, who spoke in confidence yesterday evening, stated that the exploded pipeline was conveying Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) from Port Harcourt to Aba, before vandals tampered with it to steal fuel, leading to the explosion. The top official of NNPC also insisted that the pipeline was not that of the Anglo/Dutch oil giant, the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC), as being insinuated. While later speaking last night through the telephone from Lagos, the Media Relations Manager of SPDC, Bamidele Odugbesan, stated that officials of the oil firm had properly checked the Oyigbo area and confirmed that no pipeline of SPDC was affected by explosion yesterday. A resident of the area, Jude Nwanma, said that residents of Izuoma where the incident occurred were woken up today by a very loud explosion on a pipeline. He said that the explosion caused pandemonium in the area just as residents scampered to safety. |

The above quotes are the statement you made. You said the committee was set up on May 14th and likely to submit their report on June 12. But, the one I published is revealing that a new committee was set up on June 22nd to start adjusting the salaries yet you came up to criticize without any form of sense and objectivity in your criticism. Now, the question am asking is, must you criticize anything you see? what exactly are you trying to prove when the dates are clearly different. yours is an old date and mine new date. Also, your manner of approach was very childish and achaic. Please, take correction and stop the insensibility. |

tonero263:Before saying anything, did you take a look at the date in question? You need to carefully observe things before you start to criticize because it's not every thing that you will criticize. |

A Thai father who promised £240,000 to the man who marries his daughter has scrapped plans for a tournament where suitors would compete for her hand - after too many applied. Multi-millionaire farm owner Anont Rotthong, from Chumphon province, southern Thailand, took the matter of his daughter Karnsita's future into his own hands with his 'offer'. But since then, 10,000 men have come forward hoping to marry the 26-year-old heiress. Mr Rotthong, 58, who owns a prosperous durian fruit farm, instantly dismissed one of the candidates as being 'too handsome', fearing that he would end up breaking his daughter's heart. At first he planned to stage a three-month tournament at his farm in the hope of narrowing down the search. But after saying he was 'dying because my phone has been ringing off the hook', Mr Rotthong decided he would scrap the idea, Channel News Asia reports. However, he has vowed to honour his 'offer' to hand the successful suitor the equivalent of £240,000. He said: 'Interested sons-in-law, please stop calling me. I'm dying because my phone has been ringing off the hook. Let me rest'.

To my Chelsea friends and family, You now know that I will be joining Real Madrid. It’s no secret that it was my dream to play for them since I was a young boy just scoring my first goal. I have tried my very best not to distract myself or the team through this difficult period of speculation and media attention, especially the last 6 months. Now the Clubs have reached an agreement I hope you understand I had to pursue my next chapter, just as each and every one of you should when you have the chance to pursue your dreams. Leaving Chelsea is the biggest and toughest decision in my career to date. Now it’s in the open I would like to put on record one thing was always clear to me, I have loved every moment at Chelsea and not once did I ever consider, nor would I have left for any other Club. I was only 21 when I joined, so I have grown up as a man and a player with all of you, you have helped me become Captain of the Belgium National team after all. There have of course been tough times, for the team as a whole and for me personally, this is professional football. However, football to me is about having a ball at my feet, playing games and enjoying every moment, we are lucky to play the beautiful game and this is always my advice to those who ask for a coaching tip! Play football and have fun! Even when we were not playing well, I tried to do my best and this has been thanks to your amazing support. That fighting spirit, desire and the refusal to ever give up is part of the culture here at Chelsea and it comes directly from you. When I think back over my special moments in a Chelsea shirt, there are so many, we are lucky to win many more games than we have lost. Those who know me understand it is not me to list what I have won, all I can say is each and every award both as a team and as an individual have been incredible. One day I will be able to sit down over a beer and talk about or laugh with pride about my missed penalty that set up my header to win the league against Palace, or those goals against Tottenham, Arsenal or Liverpool. The memories are so vivid because of the atmosphere and occasion you create, I hope you always remember them with pride, as I do. Whether it’s on tour in the USA, or at Sunderland on a Tuesday night, in Russia on a Thursday, or of course EVERY game at The Bridge – you’ve always supported me and encouraged me to play football and be me – Like I have enjoyed myself I hope you have enjoyed yourselves, I am only sorry not leave with a defending award amongst my honours! We have many great players and my proudest moments were always as part of the team. We’ve won the FA Cup, League Cups, Europa Leagues and Premier Leagues all as a family. Each one so special in its own way and of course the game in Baku a couple of weeks ago is the perfect way to sign off from a long tough season after the World Cup. Chelsea and especially Chelsea fans will always be special to me and next season I will look for your results first. I hope that we are drawn against each other in the Champions League next season and every season so we can meet again. Before I go, one last thank you to everyone at the Club for their tremendous effort as we lived through every moment. To all of my ex-Colleagues we will say our goodbyes at the right time but I must thank the owner Mr Abramovich and his board for helping me realise not one, but two dreams, my first in becoming a Chelsea player and today my second, becoming a player at Real Madrid. I wish each and every one of you the very best my friends. Eden |

What this N30,000 translates into is that there is a 67 percent increase. “If a state government applies the same 67 percent increase across board, there will be serious trouble. The same with the federal government and when there is that trouble, there will be trade dispute because the Principle of Ability to Pay will come in and the International Labour Organisation encourages us to apply that principle in our discussion. |

Federal Government To Remove Pockets From Nigeria Police Uniform. Nigerian govt. bans police, other para-military agencies from use of camouflage uniforms. The use of camouflage uniforms by various security agencies other than the Armed Forces namely the Army, Navy and theAirForce has been banned. The Nigerian Police will however use the uniform when in Joint Operation with the military or on special operation such as specific anti-riot missions, a statement by the Director of Defence Information, Chris Olukolade, said Friday. Mr. Olukolade, a Major General, said the te new rule followed the directive of the National Security Council approving the recommendations of a committee on measures to streamline the use of camouflage uniforms. This, he said, was in view of the security implications and concerns raised on the clamour, duplicity and proliferation of camouflage uniforms in the country. “The use of camouflage/fatigue is therefore restricted to the military and for occasional use by the police henceforth,” the statement said. Mr. Olukolade added, “The directive also stipulates that the military is to adopt only two types of camouflage for the three arms of the Armed Forces. “All para-military agencies using various camouflage/fatigues uniforms have up to January 2016 to withdraw such materials currently in their inventory. “With this development, the Ministry of Justice along with law enforcement agencies have been tasked to ensure that extant laws guiding the use of uniforms in Nigeria are strictly enforced. “In the same vein, the Office of the National Security Adviser has been vested with the authority to vet and clear any production and supply of camouflage uniforms in Nigeria. “The proliferation and imitation by criminals and impostors using uniforms especially the camouflage have been generating some concern in national security circles. “The development has been communicated to all the agencies by the Office of the National Security Adviser.” |
