So, last week I decided to trim my own hair at home, I did a good job but I couldn’t see the back of my head, that’s was when I called my female cousin who also lives with me to help me trim the back since I couldn’t get a good view even with a second mirror. She did and went her way. Here’s the problem now, this morning I don’t know how my mom who is also currently staying with me got to find out, so she has accosted me and said things like it’s a taboo for a woman to cut a man’s hair, that it holds the man down. My question now is how true is this? I’ve seen professional female barbers in malls, do they also bring bad luck to men they barb or is this just a superstition? I’ve never heard about this in my Igbo culture; I’m also wondering if it has any religious connotation based on the Samson and Delilah saga. I need this to get to the front page. |

The cause of essential tremor is unknown. However, one theory suggests that your cerebellum and other parts of your brain are not communicating correctly. The cerebellum controls muscle coordination. In most people, the condition seems to be passed down from a parent to a child. It is a nervous system disorder that causes rhythmic shaking and most often affects the hands, though it may also affect the head, voice, arms or legs. It's not related to Parkinson's disease. ET is a very uncomfortable condition that often start off with hand tremors (shaking hands), it affects only a very few percentage of people worldwide and is more prevalent in adults over 60yrs of age. If you have experienced this or know anyone who does, please share their stories or what triggered it. |
Christian perspective The day is observed in honour of Saint Valentine of Terni, who was assassinated by Roman Emperor Claudius II. He was a priest who is supposedly known for secretly performing Christian marriages for Roman troops as well as preaching Christianity before it was legal. Valentine's Day is celebrated to remember the life and legacy of Saint Valentine, and to express love and affection towards others. Love birds During the Middle Ages, it was commonly believed in France and England that February 14 was the beginning of birds' mating season, which added to the idea that the middle of Valentine's Day should be a day for romance. Consequently, every year on 14 February people celebrate this day by sending messages of love and affection to partners, family and friends. Pagan origin Another twist of history, a darker side now is that many historians believe the day originated from the Roman pagan festival of fertility called Lupercalia, an event filled with animal sacrifice, random coupling and the whipping of women; not quite the romantic chocolate and roses day that we celebrate today. Prejudice against Valentine It can be observed that different religious groups, including Hindu, Muslim and Christian people of India do not support Valentine's Day. In modern times, Hindu and Islamic traditionalists have considered the holiday to be cultural contamination from the West, a result of globalization in India. Conclusion As Christians, valentine reminds us of the gift of God to mankind and true love of God in our hearts. That we have to also love the way God loves. God loves unconditionally and sacrificially, as He loves till the very end. His kind of love is without any string attached to it. Today, we have boys and girls committing sexual immorality in the name of val. Some have prior agreement on how to deflower each other or “gift” their virginity to their supposed LOVER. Listen to me young girl reading this, your body is the temple of God and isn’t a gift for any man or woman, what you don’t realise is that you’re giving away more value than you can ever anticipate. Call me a preacher, that’s alright, I’m still struggling with many things myself but take it from a man full of experience. You don’t have to do, it’s your body (God’s temple) and should be reserved for your husband with whom you become one flesh for one single purpose. Premarital sex will only ruin your body, you end up filled with regrets, diseases and untraceable bodily affliction (usually not instantly but eventually especially as you age, these afflictions are slow, progressive and excruciating, they are the unavoidable consequences of fornication and adultery) not to mention that you sin against your own soul, what a degenerate sin. Most other sins are outside the body but you see sex? It’s a spiritual transaction where many doorways are opened and a direct access to the greatest enemy of your soul and life, to operate. In summary, valentine if necessary is about pure love, no true lover will ask for your body because that is hatred and he or she wants you to sin against your own body, soul, spirit and God and you’ll also be participating in his own sin against his soul. |

My favorite breed is the German Shepherd aka GSD or Alsatian is a German breed of working dog of medium to large size. The breed was developed by Max von Stephanitz using various traditional German herding dogs from 1899. It was originally bred as a herding dog, for herding sheep (Wikipedia). Temperament Curious, Intelligent, Stubborn, Alert, Loyal, Watchful, Confident, Protective, Obedient, Courageous, Brave. Life Expectancy 9 – 13 years Colors Black, White, Black & Tan, Sable, Red & Black, Black & Silver, Grey Weight Male: 30–40 kg, Female: 22–32 kg Height 77-88Ibs Not only are GSDs loyal, they are also loving, playful, and very protective and always up for an adventure. In addition I love my dog unconditionally for one act of love it showed as a puppy. Short story I went on a stroll one evening without my phones, I returned home around 8pm, everyone thought I was in my study room not knowing that I was out, so they locked the gate. I shouted on top of my voice but no one heard although I could hear my boys shouting and playing. Caesar (my dog) all the while was barking and scratching the gate for over 30mins, he would run to the doors and windows and back, he even attempted climbing the one window so someone could hear him. Finally, I guess they wanted to call me for dinner when they noticed my absence and the rest is history. However, the notable thing was that Caesar even injured himself while on the gate and continued even with the pain, I loved him unconditionally after that night. What’s your favorite dog breed and why? Share your experience if you own a dog.

1. Keep tires pumped up Tires that are underinflated have a higher rolling resistance on the road. This means that with every kilometer traveled, your tires generate more friction and rolling resistance, and hence, will increase fuel consumption. If all your tires are under inflated by 10 psi, this could reduce fuel efficiency by up to 10%. 2. Lose the weight in your boot For those with a habit of keeping everything and anything in the boot, in addition to emergency spares, think twice when loading up next time. Every extra 50kg your car puts on increases fuel consumption by 2%. 3. Drive with AC Driving with the windows down at speeds faster than 80km/h causes a lot of wind resistance, and costs you a lot more fuel. Contrary to what you may think, in this situation, it’s simply more fuel efficient to drive with the aircon on. 4. Don’t go too fast or too slow When cruising down a highway, your engine works hard to overcome wind resistance. You’ll burn up to 15% more fuel at 100 km/h and 25% more at 110 km/h. That might tempt you to drive slow, but if you drive slower than 50 km/h, your engine would drop to a lower gear, thus using up more fuel. In conclusion, a steady 50 – 90 km/h on the highway is best to achieve optimal fuel economy. 5. Remain steady when accelerating Avoid revving your accelerator to a high revolutions per minute (RPM). It’s better for fuel economy, as your engine uses less fuel when it is revolving slower, at a lower RPM. 6. Avoid braking aggressively Slamming on the brakes increases fuel consumption as you need to accelerate again later. This is especially true if you follow too closely behind the vehicle in front of you. Not to mention, tailgating is dangerous and something to avoid. 7. Cruise in top gear If you’re driving an automatic car, make use of cruise control to keep your speed constant. And if you’re driving a manual car, maintain a higher gear when appropriate. In each of these instances, your engines go through less revolutions per minute (RPM) and will reduce your fuel consumption. 8. Practice predictive driving Look to the road ahead and plan your next move. Instead of slamming on the brakes to a complete stop, try slowing down as you approach the red light. Or when reaching the foot of a hill, start accelerating as you edge closer to it rather than when you approach it. Avoid hard accelerations when moving your car from a complete stop, or climbing a hill as it will increase fuel consumption. 9. Plan your rush hour route Stop-start traffic puts a lot of pressure on your engine, thus burns more fuel. When possible, plan your commute to and from work carefully to help you avoid the worst of peak traffic. 10. Don’t stay idle for long If you are waiting for something or someone for more than three minutes, turn off your engine. You may not be moving but as long as your engine is on, it’s burning precious fuel. And a final word. Regular car servicing helps maintain your engine’s fuel efficiency. Engine parts work closely in tandem. If poorly maintained, sludge and corrosion will build-up between the parts making it difficult for the engine to work smoothly. This is also why engine oils are important. A good high-performance engine oil, like Mobil™ can help to reduce friction in the engine, combat sludge and improve fuel economy. If you can’t remember the last time you had your car serviced, it may just be time for you to visit an auto-shop. 11. And of course, saving the best for last. Use fuel saving devices. I present to you the Neo Socket technology. Neo Socket is the largest technology, a breakthrough invention and patented device that could save fuel consumption by 10-30%. The Fuel Shark works by stabilizing your car's electrical system for enhanced performance and increase gas mileage. Just plug and save 20% or more on gas. It works best on the following vehicle models: -Toyota Yorus -Honda Accord -Nissan Micra -Suzuki Lapin etc Product is in stock and deliverable anywhere in Nigeria. Dm now

In the adult and mated male brain, testosterone has dampened their neural development around verbal communication and emotional memory. But their problem-solving circuits stay large and well connected. This can lead to the perception that male brains feel emotions less than female brains, but this isn’t true. When a bonded male brain realizes his partner is upset, for instance, it immediately kicks into problem-solving mode. In male-female couples, this difference in instinctual responses fuels many conflicts. While a female-brained partner might crave communication and connection around her issue, their male-brained counterparts aren’t built for that. Their neural networks are hardwired to respond by offering solutions. It’s well intentioned, sure – but baffling to a partner who doesn’t understand why they can’t just listen. A smaller difference in neural centers for emotional memory may drive other conflicts in male-female partnerships, too. The female brain’s emotional memory centers have more neurons to store away details about emotional encounters than the male hippocampus. So the perceptions of a situation in their relationship are recorded quite differently in each brain. These biological differences can be difficult to overcome in relationships, and they require each partner to develop strategies to adapt. Female-brained partners have been hardwired by estrogen to tune into facial expressions and tones of voice from early infancy. But from childhood on, the male brain has suppressed these signals and damped his facial expressions to keep his emotions from being perceived by his peers. His compulsion to keep emotions from showing in his face can be interpreted as a lack of feeling, but it isn’t. His neural wiring simply keeps it from activating his expressions. But it is socially acceptable in many cultures for men to express one particular emotion: anger. It’s triggered by the priming of high testosterone sensitivity and a large amygdala. And it has profound effects on those who interact with these male brains, negatively impacting careers, families, and communities. As testosterone levels drop with age, however, this font of anger may dry up, giving way to a more nuanced expression of emotions. |

Fiscus105:Come, you sound extremely unintelligent, what is this? Read again and tell if you sound coherent. What’s the correlation between Ipob and the topic on ground? Are you suggesting or inciting SW to create insurgence? Your intentions are not clear and be careful. Anyway, I’m out, I think teenagers are taking over the threat. Thanks to all the ladies and men who contributed insightfully to this thread, I learned. |
Persephone1:Pardon me, but I don’t understand your first paragraph, I’m a very meticulous person and I thrive on details; if you don’t mind I can do with an elaborate layman’s Commonwealth English, as a layman that I am or does one expect to be perceived or assumed contrary to what is projected? This is the status quo which keep things simple. To the crux of the matter, so you’re going back and forth now with your second paragraph; A fp topic of a man that burned his wife isn’t the problem; that Chimamanda Adichie achieved a feat I haven’t isn’t a problem, I shook her and went my way, those are just infinitesimal or pocket citations. Of course men show emotions I’m so excited to register on NL today that’s an emotion right? positive or negative all emotions exuded by both sexes, that’s a fool’s argument by the way.Let me bring to fore, what we are addressing here is the matter of statistically representation, which does not accommodate insignificant variations. I don’t know if you’re a maths person but let’s see, supposedly I pose a research question or do a survey here on NL which I suppose you’ve been in for a longer time than I have, I simply put: what is the causality of emotions on the actions of NL populace? Or even more accurately what would you think will be “the extent to which emotions influence the actions/inaction of the NL community” (males & females as respondents)? Ok back to homeland, what we are talking about here really is a broad look at the disparity in men who are immature, unreasonable or in-fact lack critical thinking (a perfect example is your said story of a man that burned his wife or a guy I know who nags with his wife and regrets every time), and men who are mature and reason critical regardless of their society, Africa or wheresoever; and then compare this broad view to the opposite gender. Ultimately, every time we always draw a conclusive deduction that more men than less reason critically than more women than less who reason less critically but apply more of their emotional nature, which in my view isn’t really a bad thing; emotion is good. You see I learnt something here today, no matter your level of education you can still learn something new everyday, nobody is the custodian of knowledge. I was just a guest here until I came across this topic and just had to engage, it’s very educational; you know what someone said here? That emotional persons are successful in healthcare and childcare and that is why there are more female nurses than men, it’s mind blowing exposition for me thinking deeply about it; of course we have established that more of women are emotional (show beautiful emotions like temperance etc) than men, which is why they naturally inherit the responsibility of childbirth and care. I rest |
Lilipo:My dear, I come in peace; congrats on your marriage by the way. But, the lines above interested me specifically. Please, don’t bring that argument, I don’t want to engage you but just drop it. The male gender is a symbol of authority and leadership, men are superior to women (I’m not arguing other facets of life, ex. Some woman are wiser or more prudent than some men and vice versa, as you highlighted too. However, the outliners are too insignificant NOT to generalise. (Follow previous posts). God made it this way from the beginning, the Bible is conspicuous on such matter, from the genesis of creation to NT spiritual authority; howbeit, just incase you’re an atheist or not a “religious” person, show me any believe system in which women are equal or superior to men, even the matriarchal religion was constructed by men. Going by history too women only started to gain substantial relevance in the 1970s. Don’t just start that argument, but if there’s any need for consolation then as you said bringing different parts to the table makes the world and interesting place and we need you, well as much as you need us. |
shaybebaby:Yeah, I was going to say according to a research carried out by China in selected countries in three continents. Once I rediscover it I’ll be sure to share. |
Persephone1:Common sense should tell you that you’re talking to your fellow gender. Every man knows that committing any form of crime for money is grossly selfish and that there’s always a price, they know this because they have a more rigidly formed minds “of their own”, unlike women who can do a crime out of petty emotions without thinking of consequences; often women do it, on one hand to impress their lovers (I’m a witness), on the other hand to express negative emotions and as we all know whoever dictates your emotional response CONTROLS your life. So you see? Logical men will always control emotional women. But let’s strike a balance, I’m not saying that there aren’t exceptions, as one poster postulated there are outliners but that’s too insignificant NOT to make a generalised statement. Someone said (I think the op) that we’ve some outliners at the arbitrary range of 25-75% (regression to mean) but that not withstanding, how can you tell what is about the right amount going by the Goldilocks argument, not too cold not too hot; how can you tell if a woman for instance at the other end of the spectrum (emotion), has just the right amount of emotionally blended logical reasoning? Sounds complicating right? Yea, that’s because it’s a paradoxical theory. |
shaybebaby:Come, the person who made the comment is a female, so shame on you both. Did you even know that according to a research, women commit more violent crimes when involved than men? |
CHoccolaTE:Chocolate, why are you so pained huh? That’s exactly what the poor guy is saying, everything you spewed reeks of emotions, nothing makes a person sound weaker and unintelligent as “emotional” expression void of appeal to pathos. You’re out of line, no one is talking about crimes, besides no particular gender has the monopoly of crime ok; women rob, kidnap, rape and brutally assault men and other women alike, pls don’t insult me just find the pony. It’s a social issue and the pendulum of social opinion swings left and right. |
The term expert is used here in a very wide sense: it just means that the teacher knows better and more than the student. For example, one doesn't need to be an expert mathematician to teach math at the primary level. At the university level, at least, you would need to be an expert to teach math. |
As an expert, teach only what the student is able to learn or better, teach only the most of what your can actively share with your student. Some eventual arguments: 1. Knowledge is not transmittable. 2. The meaning of knowledge can’t be the same within deep experience or within poor experience. 3. The locus of knowledge to be learned is in between, let’s say, the master of dance and the student, both in action. The beginner dancer dances better because of the help of the master. In this example, the new knowledge seems to be "in between" (master vs learner). It is not completely the deep knowledge of the Master since he reduces his possibilities to adapt them to the beginner, and it is neither the actual possibilities of the beginner since he dances better only because he is helped by the master. So there is some knowledge enacted "in between" by both of them. What is then the nature of this knowledge that is short of what the teacher knows and beyond what the beginner already knows? |
vannessa7:Well, about the best female contribution in this thread so far. But you don’t know the full story don’t just support her and you’re right about the success-with-marriage thing. I’m going to dm you now |
lansile:Needless to say that you’re indeed a philogynist forget reverse psychology, but calling op a lunatic isn’t necessarily. Well, the only reasonable take home from your assertion is to “find balance”. |
Ishilove:Dm asap |
Princessdainty:I hate to break it to you princess but many women have paid the price OFFLINE. I used to feel women are worthless too, until I witnessed the pain of childbirth (which is the only valid sword you can wave before me in this context). |
doggedfighter:I dated your type once, she ended up becoming a FEMINIST after I turned down her discussion of marriage and said she could never love again. She went all out war on me, telling lies to my friends and of how I hate women and treat them as trash, this lady became dangerously bitter that I had to change certain things, like the route I use at night and door locks. It’s emotionally vulnerable women like you who should get help, you can do hurtful things out of present emotions without thinking of consequences. Yes, you because you’re attacking op without logical derivation or synthesising the information, it’s all based on your emotions, all because he aired a socially valid concern. Tuahh |
Kobojunkie:My dear take a chill and assess yourself first before removing the dirt in your brother’s eye, you’re the one who needs the mental help more, I know you nau…. Dude only raised a valid concern which the society needs to even thoroughly address, this is all your fish brain can spawn? |
