The former Governor of Anambra State and the Vice Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Peter Obi has expressed surprise at the statement credited to Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, who, in his twitter account, referred to Obi as, “ a tribal bigot.”

El Rufai alleged that Obi stopped him from moving around Anambra State during the gubernatorial election in the State in 2010.

But Obi, has replied saying he does not have a hand in the Kaduna governor’s travail in 2010. Obi said El-Rufai may have been stopped because his motive for coming to Anambra on election day was unclear.

Obi said he was shocked to read such an outburst of hate from El Rufai, especially when, according to him, “the statement came unprovoked, suggesting that it was what he sat down to think of rather than thinking about how to solve the many problems plaguing the country.”

Obi who spoke to journalists during Youth Programme at Nnewi said, “What His Excellency, Gov. Nasir Ahmad El Rufai said about me has been brought to my attention. I believe that as we grow older and are saddled with more responsibilities, we are expected to become circumspect in our thinking and avoid recklessness in our speeches and utterances.

“How does the circumstance he referred to relate to bigotry to warrant such a label? All I do for people like El Rufai is to pray for them and encourage them to concentrate on doing those things that will better the lots of Nigerians rather than engage in hate speeches that will divide and destroy the country.”

Insisting that Nigeria does not need violence of speech to solve her numerous problems, Obi continues: “At this difficult time in our country, when thousands of our brothers and sisters across ethnic divide are killed all over the country, including innocent citizens in Kaduna state; millions of our children from all the parts of the country are out of school; millions of Nigerian youths from all the parts of the country are without jobs, our pre-occupation, especially among those that are in government should not be making reckless speeches.

“What our leaders should be doing today is seeking solution to numerous problems of our dear country.”

Concerning the claim that he was arrested on the election day in Anambra, Obi said: “I am aware that during the said election he referred to, security agents merely restricted his movement because he has no business being in Anambra as I would not have any being in Kaduna on an election day.”

You're just economical with the truth..Amaechi is the number one politician from the Niger Delta that's in APC.. Amaechi reckons with national leaders and I tell you, he has built something massive for himself..

It's not about that. The PDP gang, especially, FFK, Omokri, Fayose and even Atiku himself have been attacking APC but when those in APC respond the initiators accuse them of not engaging in issue based campaign.

Nobody is afraid of any Obi. It's a dirty game that will even get dirtier and hotter. The aim by both side is to whittle down your appeal and votes.

The only thing I feel good about is that El-Rufai can match them. He argues with facts and doesn't mince. It's better to leave him alone or they regret, because he hardly runs away from a fight - except if he has no time.

But Obi's name is not among those that you mentioned he did what he needed to do to protect his votes, but what surprises me that nobody has asked why El-rufai was in Anambra state on an election day, knowing too well that he would not be voting.

Obi as the CSO of the state did what was required of the if you are perceived to be a security threat, so I don't know why this issue of bigot and why the attack on Obi, when he has not gone personal with anyone.

El-rufai will meet his match this time around, I wonder how he will be able to manage his election and also come after Atikuobi, except he want to hire some lazy youths to do his online bidding

Obi had since responded to the Governor’s claim, saying he would only pray for him.

But in another tweet on Saturday evening, El-Rufai said, “Any person that doesn’t recognize the
human right of every citizen to move freely, live and work in any part of Nigeria, but implies that though foreigners can observe elections in his state, other Nigerians may only do so in their states of origin is not fit to be VP of Nigeria!”

El-Rufai, Knows that Obi is the deciding factor in next years election, hence he decided to attack his character, becomes once it comes to governace you can not take it from Peter Obi.

But El-Rufai should do better, Nigerians are wiser now and will not fall for all this, I believe El-Rufai has a lot on his plate than to go after Peter Obi, with all the death of Christians in his state he should be disturbed to finding solutions to this challenges rather than settle a personal score with Peter Obi.

And for those easterns Fighting Peter Obi, They should be careful because that is your next President after Atiku, I know the Attack on peter Obi is that he will be better positioned to take over as President, that is why they trying to pull him down, I dont see any other candidate from the East that is better than Peter Obi, so they should let him be .

Take take the case where he accused El-Rufai about blaspheming Jesus. His only aim was to pitch the Christians against El-Rufai. What the retweet El-Rufai intended to do was to show the length at which Omokri and Co. could go should anyone go against their administration then.

The worst is that Omokri knows that's not what the tweet was meant to convey, but he knew they were gullible who would take it as such.
