robosky02: sRivers crisis: Wike gives Fubara two conditions for peace
A former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has said that for peace to return in the state, the governor, Siminalayi Fubara, must do the right thing.
According to him, Fubara must represent the 2025 budget to the State Assembly led by Martin Amaewhule, and also resubmit the names of his commissioners for clearance.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, said that there is no way Fubara will have peace without doing the right thing.
“What is peace? What is important is, let the right thing be done. When the right things are done, there will be peace.
“But if the right thing is not done, how would you say you want peace? Peace is predicated on doing the right thing.
“Go and re-present the budget, go and submit the list of the commissioners. You cannot do illegality,” Wike said.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja, Wike narrated how he picked Governor Siminalayi Fubara for the position despite some politicians of Ijaw extraction kicking against the decision.
He also said that Ijaws are minority in Rivers State and the Niger Delta, and stand no chance of becoming governors in any other state in the region apart from Bayelsa.
Lalasticlala mynd44 mukina2 https://dailypost.ng/2025/03/12/rivers-crisis-wike-gives-fubara-two-conditions-for-peace/ No matter what you say, Fubara will never accept commissioners from you. You cannot impose people on him. If the Assembly refuses to accept those he presents, then the position will simply remain vacant. You’ve taken things too far already – and yes, we know you dont have the power to impeach the governor." |

Adeboye80: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that the Federal Government and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are working towards resolving visa-related challenges faced by Nigerians traveling to the UAE.
Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, disclosed this following a meeting with the UAE Ambassador to Nigeria, Amb. Salem Alshamsi.
She acknowledged that despite the strong diplomatic ties and strategic partnerships between both nations, many Nigerians, especially tourists, have encountered difficulties in obtaining UAE visas.
“Nigeria remains committed to its relationship with the UAE, and Dubai has become a preferred destination for many Nigerians,” she stated.
According to her, official records indicate that around 12,000 Nigerians reside in the UAE, including professionals, students, and unskilled workers.
She also highlighted that in 2015, nearly a million Nigerians visited the UAE, spending between $100 million and $150 million on visa fees alone, while overall expenditures on shopping, tourism, education, and other activities exceeded $1 billion.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu emphasized the need for a more balanced economic relationship between the two countries and noted that even high-ranking Nigerian officials had raised concerns about the visa restrictions.
She also pointed out that a joint commission between Nigeria and the UAE was overdue, with the last session hosted by the UAE in 2022.
Expressing gratitude to the UAE for its recent donation of relief materials to flood victims and vaccines for chickenpox patients in Nigeria, the minister stressed the importance of clear communication regarding any new visa policies.
“We hope to host the next joint commission in Nigeria, where we will discuss key bilateral issues, including power and renewable energy,” she added.
In response, Ambassador Alshamsi congratulated Odumegwu-Ojukwu on her appointment and praised the progress made in Nigeria-UAE relations over the past five decades.
He noted that visas for government officials and private individuals had been processed in the last year and a half through an appointed agent.
“We have issued more than 700 tourism visas since July 2024, and since I assumed office, there have been no visa rejections,” Alshamsi stated.
He assured that the UAE remains committed to resolving the visa challenges and strengthening economic cooperation.
Additionally, he revealed that both nations are working on signing new agreements, with a major one expected to be finalized ahead of the Nigerian president’s visit to the UAE in the second quarter of 2025.

Politics › Re: Resign Or Be Impeached, Rivers APC Chair Tells Fubara by gare(f): 12:17pm On Mar 10, 2025 |
ogododo: Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, Tony Okocha, has asked Governor Siminalayi Fubara to choose between resignation and impeachment.
Speaking at a news briefing in Port Harcourt, on Monday, Okocha described Fubara’s invitation of pro-Wike members of the Rivers House of Assembly to a meeting as a Greek gift.
Daily Trust had reported how Fubara, who had been on a warring path with the 27 lawmakers who are loyalists of his estranged benefactor, invited them to a meeting at Government House, Port Harcourt, on Monday.
The invitation was sent after the expiration of the 48-hour ultimatum issued to the governor to present the 2025 budget.
The assembly had earlier issued another ultimatum for Fubara to sack commissioners and board members not screened by the House.
It also summoned the Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).
A letter dated 9th March, signed by Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo and addressed to Speaker Mathew Amaewhule, stated that the governor had received the Supreme Court judgment and was ready to meet with the legislators.
The agenda includes discussions on providing a befitting space for assembly sittings, payment of outstanding allowances, budget presentation and other relevant issues.
The Supreme Court’s recent judgment, expected to end the prolonged political crisis in Rivers State, has instead deepened the turmoil, with both factions interpreting the ruling to their advantage.
At the briefing, Okocha accused the governor of abusing the rule of law.
“The invitation to the lawmakers is a Greek Gift. The Supreme Court Judgement is final. There is nothing anybody can do about it. The only option available to the Governor now is for him to resign or be impeached,” Okocha stated.

Penguin2: The Supreme Court judgment on Rivers State has thrown up various debates.
But, though I’m not a lawyer, I want to state, that with my lay man knowledge of the law, judgments of courts are not applied in retrospect but in prospect.
The point I’m trying to make is that every action hitherto taken by the Victor Oko-Jumbo led House until the Supreme Court judgment, remains valid.
So, those things like 2025 budget, confirmation of Commissioner Nominees, etc, remain valid; and any move by Martins Amaewhule and co-travelers to demand the contrary is them looking for trouble.
Lawyers in the house can share their opinion. I see him negotiating to maintain control over governance while ensuring everything is done strictly by the book. Simple. |

Penguin2: If he’s to represent the 2025 budget, then he should equally represent 2024 budget since that was passed by Edie Ehison House in 2024. what effect would 2024 budget have now, do not understand you and the 2024 budget, or is the state government owing you for 2024 |

SendoSendal: There is nothing like Victor Oko-Jombo house. There is nothing like Edison Ehile's house. The Supreme Court already pronounced that the since the day Fubara demolished the House of Assembly, the House has not been functioning (technically on vacation) and only just resumed back after the Supreme Court declaration. Victor Oko-Jombo and Edison Ehile's sittings are tantamount to Fubara just hosting his committee of friends in a social setting So, based on your explanation of the Supreme Court judgment, can we conclude that the laws made by Martin and his colleagues are not valid? |

The atmosphere is tensed and talking of impeachment at this time won't be a wise decision. You don't just shoot bullets because you have enough bullets, you have to check the people standing close to your enemies if your family or friends are nearby then going by your comments they can never impeach the governor, because the people are with the governor, what I expected them to do is sit with the governor on the way forward this 48hrs business they have come to do will never Favour them. |

Those are brand-new fire engines. There's no need for baseless criticism if you have nothing constructive to add, it's better to move on. Your mentor was in office for eight years and never prioritized fixing that fire station. Fubara, on the other hand, built three and equipped them with state-of-the-art equipment. Development isn’t just about road construction it includes critical infrastructure like emergency services. |

That section only talks about the President and the NASS. You don't add to the CFRN what is not.
There is no section of the Constitution that forbids it either. That law is inconsistent with Court Judgements.
I will answer these questions in 2 ways:- 1. Justice Omotosho of the FHC dismissed this tenure elongation for the fact that it has become academic. They do not have the locus standi because their tenures had ended.
2. A Rivers High Court also struck out the amended law because it was inconsistent with another law, insisting that their tenures had expired. They appealed and the judgement was direct, the suit lacked merit. Note however that the Supreme Court didn't deal with the reinstatement or the law. why are you wasting your time on him, he knows the truth but just decided to be mumuish |
