The Supreme Court of Nigeria will today, February 28, deliver judgments on four critical cases stemming from the political crisis in Rivers State.
The four pending cases are:
1. SC/CV/1174/2024 – Rivers State House of Assembly & others vs. Rivers State Government & nine others.
2. SC/CV/1175/2024 – Rivers State House of Assembly & others vs. Rivers State Governor & nine others.
3. SC/CV/1176/2024 – Rivers State House of Assembly & others vs. Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) & nine others.
4. SC/CV/1177/2024 – Rivers State House of Assembly & others vs. Accountant General of Rivers State & nine others.
The apex court had earlier dismissed a related suit, SC/CV/1071/2024, which was filed by the Rivers Assembly against the National Assembly and 16 others.
More details to follow as the Supreme Court delivers its rulings.
These cases have not to do with the seats of the 27 lawmakers, so it is just starting
Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, has attributed the recent drop in food prices to direct policy interventions by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the sector.
“Contrary to the claims of naysayers, we did not import food. The recent drop in food prices across Nigerian markets is a direct result of the deliberate efforts of our president and leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to ensure food affordability for all Nigerians,” he stated.
His remarks come amid criticism from former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, who had faulted Tinubu’s economic policies.
El-Rufai specifically argued, “You don’t reduce food inflation by destroying domestic agriculture through importation, for instance,” in reference to Tinubu’s approach.
Meanwhile, the latest Consumer Price Index, CPI, report from the National Bureau of Statistics indicates that food inflation dropped to 26.09 per cent following the CPI rebase.
Oga show me the market, if not you are the nay sayer
Can they really withdraw a document like that? Once it's filed, it remains part of the record unless legally expunged, and most of these documents are likely stored in the cloud by now. Instead of wasting time and money, they should focus on preparing for 2027—their own missteps led them to this situation.
look at your face, you are so shameless, how would you face your children to stop them from lying, what you say now would not change anything they are gone and gone forever
press9jatv: he has received the court judgement, he never support Adeleke kangaroo lg election. AGF stand by law and today, Reinstated Apc lg chairmen have resumed fully with their teams today. Keep on wailing here
I agree with you, but events have overtaken the judgement, he should go back to court to get a judgment stopping this new set of chairmen, and not expecting to follow this long letter he has written.
DrChukki: No reasonable person holds anger to death especially when someone's life is not being threatened... You mocking a dead old man is totally inhuman...
Just pray you live up to his age
No mind the guy, if people from SS go and not call the press, how would he know, it is not everything that should be politics, I know lots of SS people that have being there and do not the press to capture them.
The full video of the altercation between Senator Natasha Akpoti and the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio revealed Senator Natasha refused the change of seat as directed by the President of the Senate, following the Senate rules.
Many netizens rushed online blaming Senator Akpabio but having seen the full video and realised what truly transpired, Senator Natasha is now at the receiving end of the blame.
What is there problem with seats, the problem in Nigeria is far more than seats, very petty set of senators
DiasGodinHeaven: Una lack sense I swear. Not everyone will be an entrepreneur or investors. Who is working with that entrepreneurs to make money? Who is working with that investors to make money? If nobody is fixing cars can dangote fix his trailers and drive them? If every staff of dangote resign now, dangote will be a poor very poor man. Get sense guys and stop the get rich quick syndrome.
Don't mind them. I know plenty of people who have become wealthy just from earning salaries. Here in Nigeria, there are individuals who earn $1,000 or more per day. Even in the US, that would be considered a very high income, let alone in Nigeria. They might not be billionaires, but they are certainly considered rich. Do you know how much CEOs of major oil companies make? Their salaries run into millions of dollars per year. So please, let's stop all these AI-generated articles.
Desyno: Are you sure the case is not in supreme Court? Then why was the case adjourned to April 30? Someone will give you correct news but you will discredited it without providing the correct news.
so where is the proof from the person you are advocating, since you feel mine is wrong, mumu everywhere
alcaptainero: In court today, our lawyers filed a counter affidavit, stating that a similar matter is already before the Supreme Court for judgment. However, the lawyers representing Opobo Judas argued that the judge should proceed with the case.
In his wisdom, the judge ruled that he cannot assume powers or share jurisdiction with the Supreme Court. Consequently, he adjourned the case to April 30, 2025.
Once the Supreme Court delivers its judgment, all related matters will naturally come to an end.
Its not a setback for Fubara, but a win win for him, these cases would drag till 2027, moreover there is not case at the supreme court for the defection of the 27 committee of friends.
fergie001: Our Senate has never impeached a president, it's a Governor especially when litigation is ongoing?
That's ridiculous. Ask yourself why Amaewhule and co haven't commenced impeachment proceedings, at least just starting.
I have said this before that the person who advised these guys to defect should be ostracised from that group. Fubara & co have no business on who wins or loses but to drag this case until the next cycle of election.
There is another case before the FHC in Port Harcourt which will most likely rule against the "27", the case now re-commences again and before you know it, its 2027.
Governance stops in August 2025, the rest is Primaries and election...
The OP created this topic just to gather people here to insult Fubara I see through their intentions. I’m just waiting for Yarimo; maybe he doesn’t have data, or else he would be here running his mouth. Fubara has done what they never expected, and now they can’t believe it. If Martin and his committee of friends think they can impeach Fubara, they should go ahead and try

The OP should quote the specific section of the constitution that allows for a governor’s impeachment by the senate, These are the same people who advised the 27 lawmakers to defect, and now they are running from pillar to post. Ask the OP what judgment the Supreme Court gave regarding the Rivers State case. The case was dismissed at Fubara’s request, and the Supreme Court granted the governor’s wish. Now, they are fabricating baseless arguments. The 27 lawmakers are gone for good."
God1000: Nonsense, they are making this threat after Donald Trump issued a similar statement, israel is the one violating the ceasefire agreement
They can never extinguish the people of Palestine.
Arab countries should come together and give Washington ultimatum to end this genocide or get kicked out from the region, close down all their military bases from Qatar, Bahrain, UAE, Kuwait, Jordan, irag, Egypt, Saudi Arabia
they should release the hostages, Hamas has brought untold hardship on the people.
Edygrin: Contrary to the narrative in some quarters, the Supreme Court verdict on the appeal by the Rivers State governor Siminalayi Fubara against Martin Amaewhule-led House of Assembly does not have anything to do with who is the authentic Speaker of the House.
olatade: The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has announced a review on the transaction fees for automated teller machines (ATMs)
In a circular signed by John Onojah, acting director of financial policy and regulation department, the CBN said the revised charges will take effect from March 1.
The regulator said the move would address rising operational costs and enhance efficiency in the banking sector.
Cmanforall: Constitution. It has to pass through the National Assembly, and you know how the differences in tribes and regions affect things.
That could be why they are now talking of 31 more States , so every Senator can boast of creating a state and possibly becoming a godfather, if not a governor
APCHaram: I thought IPOB are his "friends and neighbors" .
Why is he yet to join the growing number of Ibo politicians and elites that are begging the Presidency to pardon and release Kanu?
Is Obi no longer in support of IPOB that he said were his friends and neighbors?
Or is IPOB and Kanu now too sour for Obi in his quest to prostitute himself to northern politicians all in the hope of getting into a political alliance with same Muslim north whom his (Obi) 2023 campaign was a "religious war" to take back the country from Muslims ?
