I also noticed the engine is leaking oil from the top cylinder. just somewhere between the top cylinder/cam shaft cover and the top cylinder where you have a rubber lining. I tried to top the oil before I moved from Lagos to Enugu last Friday but observed there is an angle at which you will pour the oil and observer the oil leaking out from the place I specified. At a different angle of pouring in the oil the oil doesn't get to leak out. what do you think of this

The thing is many car users are now well informed about their cars due the easy access to information on the internet, I have seen countless cars on Nigerian roads that can pass off as toks.
I have helped some of my customers to sell of their cars when they intend to upgrade to newer models and I know how clean and sound those cars are.
I sold many of the registered Benz to people here on nairaland and they never called me one day to complain of any fault(s).
I don't see any reason why a 1998 - 99 Camry with two previous Nigeria owners shouldn't sell to a third owner for 300k, its very possible and I have seen it happen.
People should be encouraged and not the other way round, Gazzuzz think oh 300k is a small money that got no value, I hate hypocrites who can't appreciate people's effort.

If the valve body is clogged like you suspect, the symptoms will show up as soon as you engage the gear, warm or cold - it does not discriminate. Since the car drives well until it gets warm, rule out the filter too. Like I said earlier, symptoms of clogged filter shows at higher engine RPMs because the filter is not able to keep pace with the pump. If there is a problem with the valve body, it is excessive regulator valve or bore wear, rather than a blockage. This has been documented to cause overheat in this transmission (U760).

When this happens, disconnect the TCM harness and see if the car drives in any gear range.

Is there aeration of the atf? (sign of overfill).

Ensure the vent is clear, as it is a major cause of leakages, and will cause pressure buildup and overheating. Can you take a reading of the atf when this happens?

Check pressure values at gear ranges (I could give you the specs if you need them). You may have a leakage, caused by a weak oil seal, which softens too much with temperature rise.

Lack of TDC is not making it easy....

Updates anyway.

The engine was started around 8.30pm yesterday. I and my friend had to put our hands to work before it was finished. Since the ECU was disconnected for more than a day, it would have reset but the check engine was on. I was worried until i plugged my ELM OBD II device and scanned. I got a P0108 - Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Circuit High Input. I went to the connector on the trottle body and made sure it connected well. I cleared the code and it didnt come back, i was happy there was no new CEL on the car for the first time. Minutes later, the light came on with P0507 Honda - Idle Control System RPM Higher Than Expected. That was ok since the ECU is yet to relearn idle settings.

I made a heart breaking discovery in the trunk of the car. 3 pieces of sleeve bearings lay under the spare. Its now obvious another work was carried out on the crank shaft. That explains the engine sound we now have that is half as loud as before and with a shorter duration but more audible at 3k rpm and above. Its obvious we have another job coming which explains why we had metal fillets in the VTC oil filter, solenoid and the oil sump. That means our sleeve bearings are scraping away. We have to get it out ASAP before we lose the crack shaft.

I got a code when i got home P1009 Honda - Variable Valve Timing Control Advance Malfunction. I was encauraged knowing that the re.tard wasnt malfunctioning and the VTC is working atleast half way. I cleared and it never came back.

Lastly, each time the engine is started from cold, it registers misfire codes for cylinder 3 and 4. I didnt get the right plugs or something close so i didnt change as planned but postponed to another day. May be that will stop once new plugs are installed. One last thing, valve adjustment isnt so quiet like i would expect. Am not sure what thr machanic did with it for the short time i went to eatand come back, he was already puting the engine back.

You mean total loss of drive? Does it happen after 20 - 30 mins of idle or driving? From cold start or at any time? For sure, its not the valve body, as it would not wait to act up if it is faulty. Problem with clogged filter is more pronounced at higher RPMs.

V6 or I4?

Replaced my car stereo with a new DVD touch screen player.After 4 weeks it keep changing dials whenever I bump into a pot hole.When the road is smooth nothing happens.At times when I'm playing music from the SD card,it changes tracks, pause and forward simultaneously whenever I hit a pot hole.
This is quite strange to me,can anybody help me?

Dude I wasn't selling the Hiace I actually requested for it as I needed for biz purpose.
For the Camry I shipped it for a customer who later changed his mind on arrival and opted for Avalon.
Next time do your home work well, that hiace is worth N1.8m - N2m bro.

Pls, i have a mazda 3 2004 model automatic..... Its shows AT warning light on the dashboard and when ever this light comes on the gear jumps from gear 1 to gear 3 skipping gear 2 . When starts the engine The gear changes from 1 to 4 perfectly when this AT warning light is not on but when dis AT warning light starts to display it jumps from gear 1 to gear 3 . Anyone that can help explain whats wrong?
