Up next, toyota camry 2008, transmission failure.

Abs pump had been changed previously and calibration was not done, also steering angle sensor was not functioning.


Fluid drain and re-fill was done using TYPEIV,

Rear stabilizer links were replaced also.


Work complete, warning lights gone.

This is mostly a summary of work don on the 2001 V8 sequoia

ABS, check engine, VSC and traction were lit up.

These were caused by the following.

ABS. Abs sensor front left. It was replaced.

Check engine. Misfire caused by faulty coil packs and dirty injectors, (pics below), coils were changed, injectors were replaced

Transmission temperature sensor. This sensor is located in the beginning of the pipe for transmission oil cooler. (pic below)

O2 sensor bank1 sensor1, O2 sensor Bank2sensor2.

Both sensors had open circuits in heater section, and we're replaced.

There was a new problem once the o2 sensors were working properly again, catalyst efficiency below threshold on bank2 came up, now the owner and I never envisaged such and issue and time and money was not on our side so I spaced the downstream O2 sensor, drove 60km and code dint come back.

My highlander emits white smoke. What does it mean?

Before you get discouraged by the buy a new engine people, a lot of things could cause white smoke. One of them is if there's a leak from your master cylinder to your servo, the vacuum line connecting intake and servo would be suck in brake oil and cause car to emit white smole.

Another thing could be valve seals, this would cause white smoke at very cold start.

Finally piston ring and wear. This is a deal breaker and engine will have to go.

Is your car shooting oil excessively?

he can actually get a trouble free car for that amount and I expect you of all people to know that.
Some Nigerian used cars are as good as some of the flooded junks people pass off as toks.
He can get clean faultless 1992 - 97Honda Accord (Hala & Bulldog), Audi 80, Chrysler Serbring, Benz 190 and Golf3 for 300k.
People don't just sell car(s) simple because the car is faulty but for other reasons one of which is upgrade.
Stop discouraging people, its a bad attitude and doesn't suit you.

The electrician checked the injector valve and noticed it has a gap i.e. it doesn't close back completely as expected. We fixed another one and the rpm went normal but engine refused to rev because the one we fixed was for 2007 model and just used to check if the injector valve was the problem. So I need to get a compatible one tomorrow. Thanks ya'll.

The source of the mishap which might cost you some cash is the way your throttle body was serviced. The technician used his hand to manually push the throttle body open, I don't. Go that way cause iv noticed it could damage the mechanical gears within the throttle body, instead it becomes a 2 man job, with one person pressing the Gas pedal (with the ignition turned on engine not running)and the other person spraying and cleaning the inside of the throttle body.

If you are in lagos, before you spend money buying a new throttle body, bring urs let's see if it can still be salvaged. 08023251039

Malfunction indicator lamp.

Indicates a malfunction within engine bay.

We closed out in a stalemate with my Kazeem of a mechanic.

The reason was that of the 5 different intake camshafts that were brought by a parts dealer in Apo mechanic village in Abj, the mechanic rejected all saying they are bad.

What he expects is that the VTC actuator should be as fixed as that of the exhaust camshaft sprocket. All my explanations fell on deaf ears. Note: this is not my usual Kazeem, because my friend whose cousin a mechanic recomended this man as his oga. The oga has a reputaion of getting the best parts for his clients. So he chose not to compromise since we are taking a big risk of getting a functional VTC actuator.

He believes, if he cant get a good camshaft he prefers to rework the old camshaft which i stood my ground against any worked actuator. I took the risk on one to try, he refused saying he is sure that is bad. His reason is that the VTC actuator has a very little movement. I told him he will never get one without any form of movement since the VTC system is design as a variable to move against the exhaust which is a constant and will not have any movement. I told him the VTC actuator is designed to adjust or move in service, he said no.

I have no further way of convincing him otherwise which led to a stalemate. My last instruction is that we must find a non tempered intake camshaft which doesnt move. Its almost imposible knowing what i know about the VTC actuator.

Working the VTC means making the actuator constant which he things solves the problem. I didnt agree knowing the VTC has an advance and retard setting which the VTC solenoid valve controls through the ECU. He cant know that.

please Gazzuz how do you know if the Toks sensor is working is good while buying and how much does it cost to get one. Another is where can I get one for my Rav4 2004 bank 1 sensor 2 since am in the East. Thanks as I await your reply.

No sure way until you hook it up to a diagnostic equipment and run live scan.

But you can check the heater sensor by using your multimeter to test resistance on the heater line. The heater line is usually 2 wires with same colour. You should expect low resistance of about 8ohms.

Even when idling, the RPM of my toyota camry gets to 2000 rpm but drops down to about 1200 rpm when the gear is engaged. This started after servicing the injector pls what cud be the problem and what can I do?

New "Toks"cooling fan bought, old fan wiring was butchered and a relay fitted in its place.

Now the fan works like factory and only spins when temp gets to between 96-100deg.


Last thing to check will be the fuel guage and head lamps.

Thank u once again GAZZUZZ. From your description of the position of temp sensor i saw 2 loose wires at the bottom right hand side of the radiator. I cant access from to the top but from under, i will try to fix when i can have access to a service pit.

Secondly, the car over heated this afternoon after my inpatient friend pushed the car hard trying to get to a church program in time. At idle i could hear sounds at the cylinder head left side. Am sure either the timing is out or the camshaft has a problem.

How much do you think the whole cylinder head would cost or a complete camshaft with VTC actuator? Changing just the actuator is more complex since compressed air and a process is needed to unlock it from the cam shaft. The process specifies care and am not sure we can achieve with limited tools.

Bro get a Toks engine top and bottom (AKA borale,half and top, skeleton).

Reduced the length of the leaking metal pipe, cutting off the leaking portion and re-cliping to the rubber pipe.

My toyota corolla consumes fuel highly than even Benz 190. I thought toyota is more fuel economical than benz 190 that was why I went for it. to my greatest suprise it is even worst. I hve changed the fuel pump hoping it will improve, but it didn't. Pls what is ur advice. what do u think is the cause.

Do note that converted in this context means from RHD to LHD and not a engine conversion.

You failed to mention what car you were buying. (converting)


Let me give you a quick example.

An automatic Peugeot 206 conversation would involve the replacement of steering rack, dashboard, and possibly brake and throttle pedals. Nothing would get cut or welded, and car would be done in like 6hrs. That to me is one of the easiest conversions so what are you converting?
